I used the xperia root tool to root my phone and everything was great until I decided to flash a kernel.
The phone won't turn on when i press the power button it vibrates and nothing happens.
I can enter fastboot and flashmode but anything I try to flash fails.
I would really appreciate some help, thanks.

As far as I know you need an unlocked bootloader to flash a custom kernel. You can find answers in the Q&a, help and troubleshooting thread. Lots of topics on rooting and stuff. Just use search.

So you bricked your phone huh? That's a shame. I've only bricked a phone once, back in 2007 I accidentally wiped the NAND completely on my Sony Ericsson Z800i, and then rebooted it...
So, are you gonna buy a new Z1 Compact or are you done with Z1 Compacts now that you've bricked yours?

I don't agree. He can try flashing the original ROM via fastboot. He can do some research in the thread I pointed out. No need to give up just yet. And no need to be so rude, if someone tries to help.

Yes. But it wasn't me. Still I think it can be called a soft brick, maybe.

I know it wasn't you, I was just sarcastically reminding you that his phone is "bricked" (hence the [/s] at the end). But it was uncalled for anyway, My apologies all round.
Possible phone states the way I see it:
Brick - Literally unfixable.
Soft brick - Broken but fixable with special tools.
Not booting - OPs phone.
People shouldn't be assessing their phones as "bricked" because it implies there's no point to their post.

Could be completely unhelpful but I had similar after I rooted mine, I hard reset the phone holding the off switch down where the sim card goes and all was good. Sorry if youve tried that.

Read all the posts from the CDMA ROM page to get feedback and questions answered etc, and do a little more research via the "Search this forums" button before posting a query.
I guess we all started as XDA newbie's, so don't worry.
Got to log off now todaytoo.

Just 2 questions I think this was a good example.
Where is the CDMA Rom page?
What ROM exactly did you install? (todaytoo)
ok...its not working
ok, im at the bootload screen...I can connect to active sync. I downloaded the CDMA ROM it came in .rar format I changed to it .exe at when i run the ROM it does not do anything....
ok, now its not connecting to activsync....
Is there a trick that im not doing?
renamed a .rar file to an .exe ...new to computing?
You need to unpack/extract the rar file, just like a zip file.
Use winrar, when extracted all the goodies will be revealed!
/Psudo
wow...dont know where my head was
ok, so i have extracted it correctly....my device will still not conntec to active sync...when i plug it in from the bootscreen it changes to USB but activesync cannot find the device....any suggestions

First off is the stock pc36img.img on your root of your sdcard? If so pull the battery out, put it back in and hold down the power and vol down to boot in the bootloader. you should be fine once it installs you should be back with a stock rom. If you don't have the stock pc35img.img you can get it from here http://www.multiupload.com/U27BZXVWWI.
hope this helps
http://www.multiupload.com/U27BZXVWWI
Download that, rename it PC36IMG, put it on your SD card... reboot phone into recovery(while phone is OFF, press and hold volume down, while pressing the power button), it will load, follow onscreen instructions
Have you tried using an ruu. It should be able to return your phone to stock
u should goto the androidforum and read ROOTING FOR DUMMIES thread! u will not f up your ph and it will take u 15 mins to root yah ph give or take a few!

[Q] Unlock/Root/Flash prototype Arc?

OK so we got a SE Experia Arc S LT18i with 1253-8238_4.0.1.A.0.165 ('prototype' model on loan from a friend = prehistoric!) and looking into upgrading the thing if at all possible.
So if I am correct it's a case of: 1st: Root, 2nd: Unlock bootloader, 3rd: Install recovery, 4th: Flash ROM of choice
Bootloader is locked and phone not rooted.
Tried using Flashtool to root phone but it is greyed out so tried Tools > Root > Force zergRush = fail, (not tried Force psneuter/Emulator ?)
Tried unlocking bootloader using Flashtool, but this also failed (SE unlock website wanted IMEI code one digit less than the phone reports?!! got a code by ditching the first 0 of the IMEI, but didn't work anyway - crashed phone)
Attempted to root using command line ADB method to push zergRush and execute the script, but this too doesn't work (phone crashes and reboots).
Fastboot? I have it installed but not yet come across any how-to's that use this (did I say yet? )
The apps available on Play Store seem to be automations of above methods for one-click users.
Further exhaustive reading/searching here and on talk.sonymobile.com leads me to believe that the first step might be to flash a different kernel version before it's possible to root, after which everything else should fall into place...I'm up for trying this but of course don't want to risk bricking the phone, so backing up first would be a good plan, *but* I need root to be able to install recovery! I know enough about booting operating systems to know that changing kernel version with a locked boot loader might just result in bork! This is where the expertise of you guys comes in!! Maybe you know that flashing another (similar?) kernel will be fine with Fashtool even without unlocking bootloader and rooting phone? Perhaps I missed a simple and easy way of rooting? Any suggestions very welcome - thanks in advance!
FYI: *I only run Linux* so pointing me at any of the windows tools on offer is of no help to me
Oh and PS: yes I have searched and found a ton of helpful info, well actually *way too much* info to the point of saturation and confusion!!
There can never be too much information, yours and others problem is that you try rushing through it, because if you didn't you'd find the answers you were looking for.

Well it's not the quantity of info, but the quality of info! Failing that the filtration system used to distill the good stuff out!
Anyroads, I was still hoping for someone to chip in with something like "Yeah go for it, that will work fine"! or "Don't do it, try this instead"!
I'm believing from my readings so far, that short of flashing an incorrect radio, or interrupting a flash process, it isn't easily possible to brick an Arc?

samsung t989 Tmobile boot up stuck at teamwin

Hi everyone.
I have a samsung galaxy S2, I tried to upgrade the Rom, but made mistake, now it boots up and stuck at "teamwin" logo. Would anyone please help: how to fix this. I appreciated for your help.
Joe
Hmm, if I'm correct and since you don't seem to be such an expert. You may have to use adb or some other android debugger to flash it from the computer. Better get searching on how to do that because I'm not going to explain how.

it sounds like your recovery got messed up. download the .img file for your phone, put it on download mode, flash the img in odin, reboot to recovery, reflash your rom. shouldnt be too bad to fix. If you were not on full stock rom without root, or anything custom, and you turned off OEM unlocking and USB debugging, then locked the bootloader, you are basically hosed my friend
Look at this point it just needs to be said... PEOPLE STOP RE-LOCKING THE DARN BOOTLOADER!!
PERIOD!!
There are literally a half dozen posts this week with probably bricked phones and a good amount of them are this same root cause.

Your preaching to the choir ol friend! While I agree with you 100%, some things are best learned the hard, and expensive way! I've done it twice myself.
The carpenters rule should apply to these phones as well...."measure twice, cut once" :good:

My friend.....you could give me or anybody else 10 thousand bucks, and it's still not going to solve your problem I'm sorry to say. You should have unrooted the phone first, then fastbooted the factory image, or do a factory reset, and made sure that OEM unlocking & USB debugging were left on until you were done locking the bootloader. Sorry man, but there's not much you can do without at least a stock recovery, so....accept the loss, learn from your mistake, and move on. Many of us here, including myself, have been there as well. What you choose to learn from it is up to you
