Just got a Tab S 10.5 LTE the last week, and it's already the third time I'm going to factory reset, because this happens.
At a seemingly random point, widgets like Google search and AquaMail stop working (Tap here to restore, which won't work) and disappear from the widgets list. However rather than having 2 widgets under Google search, I now have one entry (Google Now). Same with AquaMail, only the 4x3 widget disappears, while the 1x1 one is still in the widgets list.
Rebooting won't help, either.
And that's the only thing I could notice anyway, god knows what else has gone missing. It's really frustrating.
I haven't messed around much, more than freezing a few proper bloatware crap, and installing xposed AdAway for Youtube. I'm sure if those are the culprits I'd be able to find similar issues googling, but nope.
Could it be caused by the new Nova version? But doubt so too, since I haven't seen any complaints about this.
It's really driving me crazy.
update: I read somewhere that it could be caused by some wrong permissions managing, and to use the Fix Permissions feature in TWRP. And so I did, and boy did it break the tablet lol. It's completely messed up, won't even let me delete a random file of mine. Yet another factory reset here I go

hey guys.
i just got a strange problem pop up on my phone. i uninstalled some htc stuff that i never used. also uninstalled some programs i had that wasnt really using. restarted the phone and everything was working well.
i started trying all the apps i have shortcuts for (in LPP) just to make sure everything still works.
the phone rebooted in the middle of all that...and when it was done with the bootanimation rather than a lockscreen i got
"Sorry!
System process is not responding
Force close Wait"
i force closed it and it's been on a black screen until now. i can press the screen off button and the backlight turns off. i press it again, backlight comes on. same for the capacitative buttons. but no other response from the phone?!?!
what the heck can cause this?
last things i did was dial my wife to make sure the dialer was working. hung up as soon as her phone started ringing. then opened volume button controller, and finally setcpu. went back to homescreen and before i could open another app the phone restarted. and this happened.
could this be from opening setcpu?! but why? i've had it for months and never had a problem with it before? i have a nandroid from about a week ago but i've so many improvements since that i'd rather try to fix this first before restoring nandroid.
any idea what happened?!
for now i'm going to try to uninstall setcpu and reflash the kernel through adb in case it's that...
please give me ideas!!!
EDIT: adb sees the phone and i can see the phone's files without going into recovery...in that black screen/not working mode that it's on right now?!
What stuff exactly (and I mean exactly) did you delete? You will be surprised at what is important.

nothing that i didnt know what it was. only apps and widgets like calculator, browser, friendstream etc.
i rebooted the phone through adb shell and it loaded fine this time. i'm reading on some posts elsewhere as to what can cause this. i dont want this happening while i'm not home and i dont have adb shell to reboot the phone!
EDIT: i also deleted some of the sense stuff, like the sense launcher. i have LPP set to default.
also a couple of minutes before this happened i lost signal for a while and opera would refuse to see a connection even though i was connected to my wifi? dont know if this is related as it felt like a bunch of weird things happening at once when then phone is typically very well behaved...

I read in one thread that FriendStream is needed to handle a lot of the background synching. I would try reinstalling that and see if things clear up.
Granted, I could be completely off, so...
I am already starting to get full homescreen redraws more and more often all of a sudden when going back to the homescreen from an app. This is reminiscent of the same issue on all previous Android OSs and I loathe it. This also was known to happen often on LauncherPro and ADW, although I am on the stock 4.0 launcher here.
Yes, on the Nexus it recovers more quickly, but it still slows you down for a couple of seconds and looks stupid doing it.
Is anyone else who has widgets on most screens starting to experience complete redraws and have to wait a few seconds for it to recover back up to speed?? I already tried the Terminal command to save the homescreen in memory but it is still happening the same.. It's starting to happen more and more frequently.
EDIT: Ok now it's literally refreshing/redrawing the homescreen icons and widgets every single time I go into any app and hit back or home. Every time. I thought I was done with this crap on this new OS but apparently not at all. How can this be happening and all of a sudden non-stop?
Rebooted and removed the one new widget I had added today, and still, the homescreens have to re-draw before my eyes every single time I go back to them from anywhere else on the phone. WHAT THE ****.

OK, I almost had a heart attack that the phone was going to keep doing this now, but I just figured out why. I was showing my friend the phone and the options in Developer options, and I must have accidently turned on "Don't Keep Activities"...that's why Launcher would terminate every time I left it!! It closes each app when you leave it.
So make sure if this is every happening to you, you check that option!!
Sorry to sound so paranoid guys
As my title states, no idea what happened to my settings menu.
I'm "stock" rooted. (Did it back in December with odin flash - 4.3)
Firewalled, Greenified, and TitaniumBackup to Freeze useless apps.
Everything has been great, then all of a sudden I was getting 3 errrors.
Google Text to Speech, Maps and Settings all quit working. (The whole, unfortunately *blank* has stopped working)
I removed Text to Speech, but Settings still crashes and refuses to work and now Maps took it's place (T2S).
Removed Maps and still Settings does not work and will randomly crash in the background.
I have done nothing new from what I described I have already done above.
Nothing was newly frozen. I have never uninstall any stock apps, just freeze them.
Last thing I uninstalled was a GoSMS theme I no longer use. Uninstalled it through ROM Toolbox Pro as I saw it was running in the background.
Everything else appears to be working fine. Camera, Chrome, Texting, Calling and my various daily apps.
Just something with the settings "app" has gone all wrong.
It also appears it's not the entire settings. Like if I go to about phone, it's all good. If I go to display part of the settings, *crash*
Two other odd issues pertaining to this as well:
My assistive light widget no longer works. So I know this happened within a 24 hour period as I use that light nearly every day.
And when you get into the settings part of the phone, all the text / font is screwed up. (Pic attached to see what I'm talking about)
Assistive light widget shows the same messed up text as well.
Data corruption. It will spread. The easiest and most successful solution is to wipe data, system, cache, and Dalvik cache, then re-flash the stock firmware, then re-root.
If you don't want it that successful you can do the wipes and restore a backup, but there is always a chance that there was corruption saved in the last backup and in a few days it will be as it is now.
What caused the corruption? It could be anything from a bad USB cable to a nearby flash of lightening, but more likely it's whatever you do that you need root for.
Frank
I would believe that was the issue if it was more wide spread.
Or I was having stability issues in daily usage.
The phone only gets charged via usb, I have not hooked it up to a computer for some time.
No storms or surges recently either.
As far as root usings, nothing has changed or updated recently. And none of what I do hard changes anything.
Reflash. Much faster and easier than wracking your brain trying to track down what exactly little thing went wrong.
Having a bit of an issue with the auto rotation on my OP3 where the screen snaps back into portrait after being rotated either by me or by an app, then locks the device. (if the lockscreen is activated) most apps respond by crashing once this happens.
I've dug all through my settings and come up empty on finding something that could be responsible. So I'm thinking it must be an app, or Xposed module, but again dug through everyone's who could possibly have setting that could do it, again came up empty.
So I'm really frustrated by now and wondering if anyone else has seen behavior like this, or knows what could be the cause.
I'm on the Resurrection Remix OS and as mentioned Xposed is installed. I'd be happy to post a txt of all my apps if someone is interested.
Thanks in advance, Idk what else to do but wipe it.
So figured I'd at least ask you guys before I do, just in case.
(Edit)
Guess I can add no recents menu to the list of effected. Plus now that I have that "on button push" ability to trigger this, I see it's actually resetting the system UI. It seems to crash then reload immediately, triggering the screen back to portrait and the system bar up top to redisplay (usually hidden).
I see a factory reset in my near future...
Well that's got to be a first, seems all I had to do to fix it was threaten to wipe it and it fixed its self!?
Seriously I haven't done anything since I posted this at lunch today, except start a Titanium backup, (which is still running) and as soon as I get home ready to delete it, I opened it up to a landscape view that wasn't durping out. How bazaar... Not sure now if I can trust it to behave or maybe I should wipe it anyway to be sure...
My Fire Phone has developed an odd issue. I am hoping something more knowledgable on such matters might shed some light on what to do.
It started occurring a few weeks ago. Many apps would crash a few seconds after opening them. I figured out it appeared to only be apps that have some relationship to Contact data. SUch as WhatsApp, all contact apps, all phone apps, dialer apps, etc. Apps with no association to contact data are fine.
I ended up factory reseting the phone and starting from scratch. Installing GApps, etc., as per originally.
The issue seemed to be fixed. Sigh of relief.
Today I used the phone in the morning, and it was fine. I pick it up to use some hours later in the late afternoon, and the default launcher (which was Arrow Launcher) would crash every two seconds. I couldn't get access to the phone. Rebooting made no difference. I discovered I could still use the double-click on the home button to pull up the carosel, and there could click the system settings. After trying many things, I eventually used that method to uninstall the launcher. I had a few lunchers installed already, so I picked another launcher. The other launchers are all fine, so I thought the problem was solved. BUT when I open any app that accesses contact data it was back to the same old story... it crashes in a couple of seconds. I suspect the Arrow Launcher itself has some feature whereby it access contact data, and that's why it was also crashing every 2 seconds.
I found one other person posting what sounds like a similar issue, back in March. https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-phone/help/crashing-apps-t3575127
Doesn't indicate what he/she discovered or did to fix it.
Can any suggest how I could trouble shoot this? I am resisting going through the lengthy process of resetting the phone again, and getting it all set up, because I already did that, and the problem spontaneously returned.
