Hey guys,
I have too basic questions which I'm sure you can answer me with ease. I'm kinda new to all this stuff so please don't flame me to hell. I always use XDA search and Google before asking but I just don't find clear answers to that.
So first things first.
I have a D855 16gb with t-mobile branding (germany) on firmware V10c. This seems to be the latest one for my branding. I stumped and bumped my phone recently with great success, thanks to good instructions from all you guys and devs.
Now the questions I just can't find clear answers to are the following:
Can I flash other firmwares like V10l for example, even tho my phone is branded (but bumped)?
The latest firmware for my IMEI according to LG is V10c...
The second thing I can't figure out is:
Do I need to flash a specific firmware (compatible to the custom rom) before I flash a custom Rom?
Yes I have read the instruction of many roms and almost the full thread of AndroidNow, but there are a couple of contradictory posts so I want to be very sure on that.
Maybe someone can help a beginner on those two things. I'm really trying to figure most things out on my own.
Thanks guys.

>Can I flash other firmwares like V10l for example, even tho my phone is branded (but bumped)?
There is a guide on how to properly install an OTA update (read: .KDZ and .TOT files) onto your phone. You can read the guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/psa-stop-taking-ota-updates-update-t2909412
>Do I need to flash a specific firmware (compatible to the custom rom) before I flash a custom Rom?
As far as I know the kernel is the only important thing you have to really keep an eye out from. It is very important to flash the correct kernel for your phone model. Other things like whether it is an 16GB or 32GB model, provider etc.. is not clear to me if that is important too.
I think it's best to just follow the threads here on XDA and wait until there are going to be releases of major ROMs and more information about these subjects.

In short, no and no. If the latest firmware for your branding is 10c, do not flash any updates for another model number.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/psa-stop-taking-ota-updates-update-t2909412
That Guide will show you how to take the kdz or tot file, when an official one for your model number is available, and safely flash it without losing TWRP. As the title of that guide warns, never take an OTA update while Bump'd and never flash a stock kdz or tot file. You must follow that guide exactly to create a safe zip file to flash.
As for your second question, in the original Bump thread it states that this is not like Loki and that you do not need to be on any specific firmware to flash a custom rom as the kernel will come pre-Bump'd and require nothing from the end user.
Hope that answers your questions, feel free to ask more here anytime. And thank you so much for putting this in the proper thread and having legitimate questions that are well justified. I know there is a lot of talk about the Bump method, mostly trolls, but just know that this phone is far more "unlocked" than the majority of others.
Thanks to both of you.
I already blocked OTA`s properly. Its just very confusing because of the "suffix" of the firmware like "A6MD". I wasnt sure if that has to match up, since its unlocked.
greez
I wouldn't recommend you to manually download firmware by yourself especially if you are begginner as you said you are. You could brick your phone if one tiny thing is done wrong. But you can try updating it using LG PC Suite. I got my International model 2 months ago and it was on basic firmware version v10a. Trying to update firmware with the phone itself just showed me message that latest firmware is installed. After that I installed LG PC Suite from LG's website if I remember correctly and installed it. I just plugged my phone to pc and ran LG PC Suite and then it said that I can update my firmware version to v10l.
So I recommend you to try with LG PC Suite first, I think its your safest bet to get correct latest firmware for your G3 variant.

But this method seems pretty so simular to generic OTA and would probably screw up my custom recovery and/or root access? Or am I getting something wrong here?

First of all, my sincerest apologies for posting such a question here while this topic has probably been discussed a million times already. And yes, I have gone down the search-the-topic lane first, but after spending over half an hour and not finding a definitive answer, I decided it's probably best to ask. Also, if my questions has ever been discussed in another thread, please link me to it.
So as the title goes, I am trying to figure out more regarding the various basebands and firmwares that is floating in our forum now. For some odd reason, I have fallen significantly behind on this topic and is clueless on what steps I need to take. Here are some of my questions:
As of today, prior to flashing JB on my phone, my baseband is P930-MDM9200B-V10f-OCT-31-2011-XX. From this, I assume two things, that my baseband version is V10f, and that it is very very old, given it's from October of 2011.Going through the CM10 thread, I found a baseband/firmware V10j posted by drumist. I was about to download it when I stumbled on another one, V18e mentioned by mattman86.
Now my questions are:
1) which one should I use? I assumed V18e is the latest so will that be the wisest choice?
2) If I flash the firmware/baseband, when should I do it, before or after flashing JB? And will I have to root the phone again after flashing it?
3) a silly question, but how do I flash the firmware/baseband onto my phone? I have completely forgotten on how to do this.
4) lastly (I hope so), if I do use V18e, where can I download it from?
Thanks again for the help in answering my questions guys. I just plan on updating the phone to JB, and I would rather do any updates I need to do in one swoop, so I think this is the time for me to do so. Thanks again.

You should use V10f or V10j because those were the two released specifically for the AT&T version of the phone. (I'm assuming you're on AT&T since your profile says you're from the USA.) I'd suggest V18j because it's newer and because I've been using it for months without a problem, but both of them should work and no one really knows the exact differences between them. Don't feel compelled to change your baseband if you aren't having any connectivity problems with your phone.
The other baseband released recently for AT&T is from the ICS update (V20c). This might also be a good choice, but it may or may not work well with the older bootloader (which you have if you have CWM working on your phone -- you would only have the newer bootloader if you installed an LG ICS release via exe or kdz). IIRC, arcee recommended sticking with the basebands that come with GB ROMs for this reason.
I wouldn't suggest using a non-AT&T baseband unless you are having a problem with the AT&T ones.

You can do it before or after, and no you don't have to root or install CWM again. It's a very easy process.

From terminal emulator or adb:
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/firmware.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1
dd if=/sdcard/baseband.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14
then reboot the phone and you're good to go.

Thank you so very much Drumist. I really appreciate all the explanation. I will probably just update to V10j then. Nothing is wrong with my V10f, but I feel sometimes some things just act up in weird ways n maybe V10j will fix them. Again thank you for all your help.
BTW, I dunno if your signature is just outdated, but make sure you aren't using Bytecode's CWM anymore. You should be using the official version v5.8.2.0 (ROM Manager is the easiest way to install it).

Oh yes, it's very outdated lol! I do have v 5.8.2.0 Thanks for making sure.
thanks for the guide
I m in asia at the moment, thought I would follow the above steps to flash the P936 V10c firmware and baseband (extracted from HO!NO!'s Bell Optimus Stock).
The flash was successful, but my Nitro HD still shows Unknown baseband upon reboot (MD5 of the downloaded file checks out); no problem with actual usage though, all radios are fine. I reflashed but the problem persists.
No such anomaly when flashing the P930 V10f baseband, any idea what gives? Do I also need the boot.img from P936? I m on CWM 5.8.2.0 ParanoidAndroid 1.5 (dont think that is the problem as it is CM9 based too)
Thanks

Showing "unknown" is not that big of a deal. It should still work just fine. I'm not sure what the exact conditions are that cause it to show that though.

NJ5 Gear VR?
Is anyone able to confirm whether or not NJ5 stock works with the Gear VR on DE?
So would it be a bad idea to update just using the software update in the phones settings menu? Or should I do it by running odin? What actual difference does this make? Will this cause me issues once we do have a root method for this device?
would like to know, do I need to use a full firmware or partial firmware to update to lollipop?
Clarify instructions
Hello,
I'm fairly new to Android. That being said, I'm also new to flashing using Odin. I've searched for quite awhile for "detailed" instructions of Odin, but can't seem to find any. I did find a few things here and there but I would like to know what each and every entry does in the program. If someone can point me to the full instructions (link), I would greatly appreciate it.
Beyond that, the reason I'm posting here is that I'm a little confused by the directions given to use Odin in this thread. Line #5 states... "Add the *.tar.md5 file to AP / PDA". Looking at Odin 3.09, I don't see any "PDA" section anywhere. Is the reference to "PDA" simply something that AP used to be called before and is now not present in Odin 3.09?
Keep in mind that newbies like myself can get confused by small things. We don't want to make any mistakes we'll regret later. I hope you can relate and understand.
Attached a photo of what I'm asking about.
Thanks!

Sorry I can't answer the first part of your question. The answer to the second part is use AP. And yes AP was called PDA in previous versions. :good:

Had to restore and need to make sure I have the right firmware...Please help
It has been a very long time since I have posted to the threads. I have been with android since the very beginning and have flashed and done the custom rom thing quite a bit. I am stumped with this one though and I cannot find any information on it after searching for two days. I have the developer edition Note 4 and I had to do a restore on it because I did not like lollipop. I don't know if I have the right firmware. Even though everything is working alright, it just doesn't feel right. I am listing my firmware stuff below. Please tell me if I am right. I also don't know why my build number is NK5 and my baseband is NJ5. The way that I restored was flashing the stock NJ5 and then the nj5 to nk5 like for the lollipop update. The only difference is that I stopped there and loaded TWRP and root. Any help is much appreciated.
This is what I have currently:
BASEBAND: N910VVRU1ANJ5
KERNEL: 3.10.0
BUILD NUMBER: KTU84P.N910VVRU1ANK5
Is this correct?
Thanks!

Only if you have a developer edition. You DO NOT want to update the developer edition with the updater in the phone or you will lock your bootloader. Otherwise I dont see a reason not to update with the phone. These files here are if you brick your phone and need to do a restore.

I pulled the trigger and all went well. I did get into three bootloops but pulled the battery each time until it finally gave in and booted up into KK. Not sure what went on there. Once I got through, I powered down, entered into the root menu, cleared cache/wiped data and restarted again. All is good, so it worked! Back in KK!
Lollipop does seem to run faster/smoother... and colors are nice... but I disliked the interface.
1) The notification panel is lighter blue in LP than in KK and so contrast is diminished. Old people have a hard time with contrast issues... and I'm OLD!
2) Don't like that LP phone number pad has no separators. No biggie but I like KK better.
3) Don't like how they added a floating icon in LP in contacts. It blocks some of my contact's info, so I have to scroll just to read it. Also, the icon makes the interface look "cheesy". Bad move in my opinion.
4) There are other things I dislike, but forgot what they were since I'm back to KK!!!!
Thanks for the help and reassurance!:good:

N910VVRU1BOAF Firmware
Hello,
I have a N910VVRU1BOAF that got updated to Lollipop but needs to go back to KitKat. I downloaded the Full Firmware from the first post and followed instructions from post #3. The flash runs without errors and shows PASS at the end, but when the phone reboots no changes have been made to it and its still running Lollipop. It looks like if all I did to the phone was just rebooting it. Sorry for the noob question. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
My bad. Just found out what I missed. N910VVRU1BOAF is lollipop, so I just need to flash N910VVRU1ANJ5.
Thanks to all.

Your Baseband, and Kernel match my verizon retail note 4 that is still running KK as delivered from the factory. My Build number is KTU84P.N910VVRU1ANJ5 though (i.e., Baseband and Build are both ...J5).
Good evening everyone. I am now the proud owner of a Vzw Note 4 Developer edition I had got this phone rooted and ROMd running NI1 firmware and Beanstalk rom 5.0.2 and kernel version 3.10. I've been roaming and searching for help trying to backup my Efs(ABOOT). I've tried using EFS pro tool several times and having no luck with it working. While creating a new setup as described in the efs pro guide for this device, i set three names for file, description, and device, click on read pit(pit shows up) click save and refresh manage button, select my created list but nothing shows up on the pit description to backup so i am unable to make a efs backup. Ive tried also with the terminal emulator method but both pc and note 4 cannot detect device.... Su works fine and have Superuser 2.46 and busybox current installed , I've granted permission and given remember this sync key. I just have 2 question' pertaining to my story since i can't find anything helpful with the ni1 firmware/baseband. 1) do i need to unroot and use stock restore for NI1 to get back to full stock rom and firmware than update to nj5 firmware in order to get efs pro to work with my note 4 or can i just follow the single step update to OAF firmware from the NI1 firmware if i want to go to Mod57s pac rom 5.1? 2) if someone would be so kind to explain the order of operation of updating for firmware and rom.. (i. E) flash firmware before rom or rom before firnware? I only see mention of firmware updating losing custom recovery and root but not which order needed to be flashed? I apologize for the long trip but without having a backup of my aboot or efs i don't want to chance doing something the wrong way. Thank you all so much for your time

hello there folks
I just ordered the LG G3 online and it'll arrive somewhere next week. Ive bought this device most beceause of the easy rotting and TWRP method (just install Stump, use it to root and then flash a TWRP .img with flashify)
But this company (Its called Mediamarkt, Europian people will probably know it) seems to feel the need to upgrade their devices themself, so Im afraid Itll probably already have Lollipop on it when it gets delivered. If this happens to be the case, how can I flash back the 4.4.2 stock rom?? I know you have to use KDZ, but I aint very good at it so thats why Im asking you guys. Its the Europian 32gb D855 model. a reply that includes the link to the right KDZ file and proper instruction would be awesome!

Hey,
I can't seem to find something here that confirms or denies my thoughts, so thought I'd post.
I bought a M9 from eglobal central, but it came with a Chinese ROM. I've been able to fumble through and get it into English, but, certain things aren't quite right on it, so I wanted to swap it to a UK / European ROM. I was wondering how I would go about it? Also, what's the requirements for Carrier IDs etc?
I've seen some other posts out there about swapping ROMs, I'm assuming I'll have to S-OFF, but, after that, do I need root to swap a stock ROM for a stock ROM?
I don't want to go too far with this phone and getting it all setup if I'm going to have to wipe the thing to get it to do what I want it to do....
Thanks,
Berny

You don't need to s-off to flash a new rom. The ROM just needs to match your current firmware, or you can see if there's a firmware update available for the ROM you're currently using.
This thread should get you started. http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/guide-root-install-twrp-htc-one-m9-t3061133
Once you have TWRP flashed, you can flash any of the custom ROMs in the Android Development section that match your firmware. You can tell what your firmware is when you are in download mode (It's listed as OS on that page...probably 1.32.xxx.xx...the first set of x's are your SKUid, basically region/carrier, the second set is the version of the 1.32 firmware you're using). All of this should make more sense to you after you read the OP at the above link.
I'm sorry if I'm asking something that's been answered already - I've searched and have found some discussions of this model, some discussions of custom ROMs for other models, methods for rooting this model (which haven't worked for me (script fails at the last step)), but nothing outright stating what my options are for this tablet.
I inherited an LG tablet that was apparently sold through Verizon - it has a Verizon bootsplash and some custom Verizon carrier-installed apps. The hardware info in settings shows the model as "VK700" and the back of the device has "LG-VK700 | FCC ID: ZNFVK700" printed on it so I'm not sure if it's a G Pad 10.1 or something else.
I'm trying to see what's available to me in the way of custom ROMs without Verizon-installed apps (that are useless to me), future updates, etc. As I mentioned, I've tried numerous means of rooting (The LG one-click root method here, the "New root method for LG Devices" here, KingoROOT on my PC, and KingRoot on the device itself. None have successfully rooted the device according to a root-check app, so I'm not sure what I'm missing/doing wrong, or if it even matters. I was under the impression that one first needs root in order to flash a custom ROM but who knows if that's even relevant.
I suppose what I'm really trying to figure out is whether I'm stuck using this thing as it is or if there's something better I can put on it (Lineage? AOSP? Cyanogen? Not sure what's out there and I've not followed the Android dev scene that closely.) If there is something better, can someone make a recommendation and link me to a good, comprehensive and easy/straightforward guide to installing it? I would be most appreciative of your time and effort.
Thanks.

ok im pretty sure that the lg lollipop bootloader isnt bumpable ( not bumpable on my tab) have you tried downgrading to kitkat because thats what i had to do to bump my bootloader but im not seeing any roms for your device which is kind of funny how my tab has more roms then your tab but we dont have our own device forum weird but i dont see any twrp for you either also if you want root try the kingoroot not on the actual kingoroot website go to https://kingroot.en.uptodown.com/android/download the version on the kingoroot website doesnt root our tabs for some reason so use that one oh i just found a twrp for your vk700 https://www.needrom.com/download/twrp-3-0-2-2-vkworld-vk700-pro/ but probably no use without custom rom
