I'm sorry if I'm asking something that's been answered already - I've searched and have found some discussions of this model, some discussions of custom ROMs for other models, methods for rooting this model (which haven't worked for me (script fails at the last step)), but nothing outright stating what my options are for this tablet.
I inherited an LG tablet that was apparently sold through Verizon - it has a Verizon bootsplash and some custom Verizon carrier-installed apps. The hardware info in settings shows the model as "VK700" and the back of the device has "LG-VK700 | FCC ID: ZNFVK700" printed on it so I'm not sure if it's a G Pad 10.1 or something else.
I'm trying to see what's available to me in the way of custom ROMs without Verizon-installed apps (that are useless to me), future updates, etc. As I mentioned, I've tried numerous means of rooting (The LG one-click root method here, the "New root method for LG Devices" here, KingoROOT on my PC, and KingRoot on the device itself. None have successfully rooted the device according to a root-check app, so I'm not sure what I'm missing/doing wrong, or if it even matters. I was under the impression that one first needs root in order to flash a custom ROM but who knows if that's even relevant.
I suppose what I'm really trying to figure out is whether I'm stuck using this thing as it is or if there's something better I can put on it (Lineage? AOSP? Cyanogen? Not sure what's out there and I've not followed the Android dev scene that closely.) If there is something better, can someone make a recommendation and link me to a good, comprehensive and easy/straightforward guide to installing it? I would be most appreciative of your time and effort.
Thanks.

ok im pretty sure that the lg lollipop bootloader isnt bumpable ( not bumpable on my tab) have you tried downgrading to kitkat because thats what i had to do to bump my bootloader but im not seeing any roms for your device which is kind of funny how my tab has more roms then your tab but we dont have our own device forum weird but i dont see any twrp for you either also if you want root try the kingoroot not on the actual kingoroot website go to https://kingroot.en.uptodown.com/android/download the version on the kingoroot website doesnt root our tabs for some reason so use that one oh i just found a twrp for your vk700 https://www.needrom.com/download/twrp-3-0-2-2-vkworld-vk700-pro/ but probably no use without custom rom

Good morning
I have:
LG G Pad 8.3 with LG's custom interface OS
Android version 4.4.2
Kernel version 3.4.0
Build number KOT49I.V50020b
Software version V50020b
Here is an image of the software information:
http://s30.postimg.org/taiyvu2k1/201...8_14_31_41.png
I have already:
The LG drivers installed and updated -
Rooted the G Pad with towelroot's tr.apk (many thanks to the guy who made that method!)
Root checker and SuperSU installed and verifying the device is rooted
Google USB drivers (after rooting, the device refused to be recognized through the USB - installing the Google USB drivers seemed to fix that, although occasionally it dissappears again and I have to unplug/replug the USB cable)
Google ADT Bundle (adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20140624 - although to be honest, my knowledge of using this program is limited)
Flashify (and Rashr - uncertain which is best to use, although both look good)
My goal:
Install TWRP
Use TWRP to install Cyanogen Mod
I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. My G Pad has a micro SD card, which it can also write to (thanks to the G Pad being rooted). I'm a competent Windows and Android user, but by no means a hacker. If I want to upgrade or fix something, I read read read and try try try. But installing a new OS on my tablet is a new experience and I don't want to turn my tablet into a permanent brick! I have done all my homework, and think I know all the concepts, and generally the procedure. Now I just need the specific files and procedure for my G Pad.
My questions are:
1) Which TWRP recovery/boot image should I use to flash my device? (I tried a version, and briefly turned my G Pad into a brick! Fortunately I tried some power+volume combinations that I discovered, and that seemed to return to the original system.) My best options I have found seem to be:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2551499
plus using step 3 here (a loki-exploitable ABOOT and TWRP)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2698267
...or only:
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/213
2) Do I need to use an aboot/loki file first? (Apparently 4.4.2 doesn't have a loki exploit? I'm a little unclear about this tbh.)
3) Can/should I use ROM Toolbox or ROM Manager?
4) If you try to flash a TWRP, and it doesn't work, does/can the device just return to the standard OS? (This is what seems to have happened with my G Pad.)
5) Should I wait until the community has more experience TWRP-ing and modding the G Pad Kit Kat 4.4.2, V50020b device? (There seem to be a lot of posts with people installing TWRP and installing another OS.)
Many thanks in advance. And while I am decent with computers and technology in general, I humbly ask to speak/explain it to me including steps you probably already know are obvious(!) - I don't want to miss anything, and it is probably not obvious for me, as this is more or less my first time! If I can make this question clearer, or can provide better information, I will update this comment. Again, many thanks in advance!
Sorry - no questions in this forum?
Looking at a post by an admin, it looks like there shouldn't be any questions here. I've put this post in the troubleshooting Q&A forum section...
i have the same device firmware... I have root access, but cannot install TWRP!
Any ideas?
look at this instructions, they worked fine for me

notice step 8 that states to disconnect the tablet
Thanks

Thanks for the link and information. I'll look at that carefully later. I want to be very careful (and know as much about what I'm doing as possible first) when I do this.
hmm... I believe I have the same build and software version as yours. I could recall a thread in the forums to flash the TWRP for the Korean version of the ROM, which actually worked fine for me. I have a SEA region tablet. If you still have issues, ill have a look when I get home.

Thank you very much, I'd appreciate the link, and any extra info you could give. I don't know if I'll have time to try it this weekend, but I'm collecting all the pages and info I can over the next few days, and I'm looking for a free time in my schedule to try this thing.
Now I have 20d : /
Apparently LG saw fit to update last night, and now I have 20d!
Does this change anything?
Cause I was all ready to try to load TWRP with 20b on my tablet. Now it's 20d and I don't know if that messes everything up.
I am having trouble following the latest thread involving the gpad. Is the verizon device with 4g the same as the v500. No one is direct with the names. I see a software version of my tablet as vk81011a. I see there are root options and custom recoveries but I dont think the gpad is the same as the device I have. I did root the device with towelroot, but are there twrp or custom recoveries available for the Verizon 4g vk81011a. Did I even root the device using the best method. If someone could enlighten me on what i've actually done and what my device is called that would be great.I cant seem to find the connection with why xda think my vk81011a is teh gpad. Every time I Google root vk81011a it bring me back to the gpad and its a 4g version not just wifi. I notice awifi was available under twrp but I think this is wrong for my device.
Better Late Than Never?
Check out this thread here on XDA. I hope this helps you, or maybe someone else with the same problem.

Unless an exploit was discovered seconds ago, it will not work. Believe me, when it's finally exploited, the news will be bigger than The Beatles stepping foot on U.S. soil for the first time.
Kind of interesting how it does say it's for our phone. I myself doubt that an exploit was discovered without a whole bunch of people blowing up the threads about it. LOL Who wants to give it a shot?
Based on the Comments I read, Some have said it will work. One person said it failed but another commented & said it would work & he just needed to find the right firmware. I think I will give it a Try this evening when I get home from Work. If this does Work OMG!
ive been flamed plenty of times but i said months ago it wont get root. people dont listen smh
Nobody reads anymore. Once again, cf-auto-root only works on the Developer Edition!

I don't see anything about it being specific to the Developer Version only. It says it's for SM-N910v and doesn't contain the developer model number, SM-N910VMKEVZW.
I do see a disclaimer on the CF-Auto-Root page: http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/ that says "If you have locked bootloaders, flashing one of these will probably brick your device..." and it is my impression that the whole reason it's taken a while for a root exploit to surface was because of our locked bootloaders.
Look at the screenshots, that looks like 2 generation old touchwiz. And a random website called androidxda? Doesn't seem like a very reputable site.
The bootloader is locked, flashing CF-Autorooot will not work. This is basic stuff. Also for future reference, this doesn't belong in Android Development section.. take questions to Q&A.

I can confirm that this process works ONLY on the Note 4 Developer Edition. It will not work on the retail version no matter what firmware the user has on his phone because the retail version has a locked bootloader and the Developer Edition has an unlocked bootloader. This process will fail as soon as it tries to replace the stock recovery partition with the custom recovery (TWRP in this case).

I noticed some of what you are saying. I don't know Most of the "Basic" stuff with Android Root Methods. I can follow a Procedure to Root a Device. I don't know if this will work if this wont work etc etc AGAIN which is Why I brought the Questions to the PROS. I did look at some of this Questionably though. I also looked through the Comments & the OP posted 4 days ago that is would Work on Either Edition. I also Commented asking him again but the Comment is not showing up, maybe because it has to be approved before it will show up. The name AndroidXDA actually ADDED credibility to the post for me BUT it also made me Hesitant which AGAIN is why I brought the Question here to the PROS. As far as where I place the Thread IMO my question could go in the General Section or Android Development. I apologize for the Wrong Placement but I didn't put it in the Wrong Place on Purpose. I recieved a PM saying it had been moved & I even asked the Moderator Why because I still dont know why " Will this ROOT method work" is not a General Question or a question about Android Development. These forums aggravate me sometimes everything needs to be so perfect & in its right place according to moderators Opinions & who knows what that might be & if its placed in the Wrong spot BAM your Head is Bitten Off & you are Scolded for being so STUPID to put (blank) in that section. That is ALL. Sorry for asking a BASIC (dumb) Question & Asking it in the Wrong Place. I can only hope the Forum Gods Forgive me.
OOoooops I think I may have Broken another Rule with this Post. Dang It
THANK YOU jpcalhoun

Possible Bootloader Unlock
Okay I'm sure most of us have bricked or soft-bricked our devices. I have done so on the Note 2. I even screwed on my baseband once. This is what I tried to revive the phone.
1. Odin Stock (No luck)
2. Restore Back up (No luck)
3. And then interesting... Rooted a friends phone and created a backup in TWRP, swapped a few files and restored to my phone. (Worked) However, not only did this work, IT CLONED his phone entirely. IMEI, serial no., everything. Pretty much with identical sims- both of our phones would possibly ring when receiving a call.
With that said my initial problem wasn't solved.
So I started looking for a another method.
I found out that Samsung Kies has emergency recovery granted you have Model Number, and Serial No. of the device.
This WORKED. Good as new with exception of new 4.3 Bootloader.
So what I am getting at is...
What if we used the Serial No. of a Developer's Edition device through Samsung Kies to restore a Retail Version???
Theoretically speaking.... Kies would install the Official software for the Developer's Edition to our Retail device, Thus giving us and Unlocked Bootloader.
I only have 4 days left to return my device to Walmart.
If someone is willing to provide me with the serial number of a Dev Edition I will try this immediately.
Cheers!

I'm pretty sure this won't work because the Developer Edition bootloaders are INDIVIDUALLY signed. So, there is no way you can unlock the bootloader on a retail version...there is no Samsung "signature" for that bootloader.
Thanx for the clarification. Absolutely makes sense.
Is the SM-N910V a developer edition?
Just got one in the uk. My EE Sim works but no data, so I was gonna root it, then flash a eu rom on it. It's on 5.0.1
Thanks
Only if you bought a Developer Edition straight from Samsung......if it is a retail model it has a locked bootloader. ...so no flashing because you can't install custom recovery. Only root is temp root that goes away with reboot.

Hello,
I have an LG G3 AS990 (Ntelos). I would like to root and flash a different ROM, but am having trouble finding my variant as Ntelos is a smaller carrier. Does anyone have any advice on compatibility between any other variants? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I've been researching this as well. You could try finding the beta version of CM for Sprint's LS990. I would try it just for the fun of it, but I'm nervous that I don't have the stock rom for AS990 to revert back to. I have my system backed up, but I'm not comfortable enough to rely on that to save my phone if I brick it trying to install CM.
Bump. I have the same problem here, except that mine got pushed an OTA patch that prevents stump and others. So far no firmware I have found is compatible with this device to even downgrade in order to root in the first place. If anyone has succeeded with as990 NTelos please help.
Bumping the necro in hopes of support. XD my software says as99020a but the writing on the back under the cover says us990... So I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do especially since I can't even find a place to download the firmware for manual updates.. Etc. :-[ Damn ntelos
AS990 Recovery?
Has anyone found a recovery that works with the AS990?
I have an option
I've posted a way to use TWRP and ROMs for the LS990 on the LG G3 subreddit, I need 10 helpful posts before I can post it here because I have a few xda posts and downloads linked.
AS990 experience
Hi all,
I have tried different roms on my as990 (Carolina West Wireless) by using the method on reddit (HERE) and everything works just a few things to keep in mind
To get your sim to work on a custom rom you may need to change the build.prop ro.build.target_operator=, and ro.afwdata.LGfeatureset=
Take note of these settings before you try to reflash the phone. If you change one, change both if applicable.
Remember to backup your old build.prop
Backup all apns before you start using method found (HERE)
Backup build.prop
Oh and did I mention backup build.prop
The restore files can be found (HERE) and use the guide found (HERE) replacing the files mentioned with the ones in the post. If you use this method to restore you phone, the build.prop from the reddit post will not work so use the old build.prop that I'm sure by now you have backed up or you will have to get the custom .dll file elsewhere to restore.
For all who have taken the ota update, the restore method works for that too
Your carrier files are automatically restored if you use the firmware in the above post. That is to say they were for me but if anyone else test this
no guarantees but it did work flawlessly for me.
Also I am currently working on a recovery for AS990 if anyone has any ideas feel free to chime in
A couple of side notes
The method by tybskinner may also work if you flash to US990 as well, but I have not tried this yet. To do so you would need the custom .dll or the build.prop for US990
Users have reported that SIM unlock is possible by changing the the build.prop ro.build.target_operator= to global or open however I have not tried this yet
If anyone has a method to change the PRL on the device please let me know I have tried several options but no method I have tried will allow the PRL to stick
P.S. not trying to steal your thunder tybskinner just making it easier for people to find the links
Thanks for the info guys. At this point I'm having issues just trying to root the thing. Lost root with Lollipop, and for some reason I cant seem to regain it. Oh well. The price you often pay for having a smaller carrier (I actually work for nTelos, so its my work provided device).
Thanks again. I hope you guys are able to get yours setup the way you like. :good:

Currently there is no root method for the AS990 device on the newest ROM however if you follow the guide posted you can downgrade to the previous version and go from there.

The as990 stock rom is http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/lg-g3-as990-firmware-as99010a-t3183928
Hey guy, sorry if this is going to be a bit of a noob question but please try and bear with me. In lieu of the recent nexus 5x which i found to be a huge disappointment I decided to pick myself up an lg g4. I'm not the biggest fan of the stock lg Rom and immediately looked for Cyanaogenmod.
I know that no stable build has yet been release for this phone yet and that i just need to have some patience, but I have some questions regardless. I'm wondering if there is a difference between root and an install of cyanogenmod. By this i mean that there are certain installer which will complete the process for you without you having to do any rooting yourself. If i understand correctly the phone is still being rooted but just by a program. My question is, is it only this latter feature that is not yet available for my phone. Like, if I were to root it myself would I then be able to install a cyanogenmod ROM. Or is it that there is not yet any compatible ROM for my device. If it is of any help I have the LG-H812 version of the phone.
Also, I recently saw a video on the XDA developers YouTube channel where it was discussed how TWRP is now available for the G4. what exactly does this mean and is it something that I would want.
Thank you very much for putting up with me.
Sounds like you need to do a bit more research before you do anything. I don't think TWRP is available for your model at the moment, which rules out custom roms/cyanogenmod. You just have to be patient and hope TWRP becomes available, then wait for a stable rom to come along. Or trade/sell your H812 for the international H815 (careful there are a few variants of the H815).

He's right man you Really should start hammering google especially with a more technically involved root with our g4s. No matter what anyone tells you TWRP or another custom recovery is the number one absolute most important thing to do with any root and immediately after you root before you make any modifications beyond normal app installs whatsoever. Custom recovery is what is going to save your ass in a bootloop or brick situation where you cannot get to the OS or even get a response from the device. As long as you have a backup in storage, you can use hardware key combos to enter TWRP and wipe the system and the problem and reflash the backup. Recovery is completely separate from the Rom that's how you can get around a total Rom disaster when nothing else works. The main reason there's no Roms for them yet is cuz only that one variant's bootloader can be unlocked which is required in most devices to flash a Rom or recovery and the reason that even with my capabilities I won't even bother rooting my expensive ass main important phone I'm still paying for every month lol I just fulfill my flash addiction on an l70 on a daily basis and daily I get outta bootloop and bricks thanks to TWRP... The g3 is perfect for playing with and I'm considering buying a used one and o I recommend the same until the g4 is fully cracked......also CM only comes pretty rooted because it does the same thing as normal just by flashing supersu which is a breeze with TWRP also
