I am installing my Pro 8.4 in the dash of my car. I have to plug a 90° cord into the tab for space considerations. The one I found is OTG. I don't plan on using accessories, only to charge.

Will this cord pass through the 2.1A I need for charging only?

I I am looking to put a little charging station in the storage compartment of my home theater sectional. I really would like to only run one USB cable to charge my devices. I am a bit worried I will not be buying the correct pieces for my needs. I bought a 16ft. pluggable USB cord on Amazon recently, but there seem to be worries that a single USB cable may not provide more than 2.1a.
I would like to charge at least two smartphones (HTC One X and Note 2) at once and at their full charging rate. Assuming that this is even possible, could someone provide me with a wall adapter and USB hub that will work for this? I like the looks of...
PowerGen Dual USB 3.1A 15w Travel Wall Charger
and
AmazonBasics USB 2.0 4-Port Ultra Mini Hub
(I can't post links yet).
If this is an impossible task, what are some other good options? I looked at the Belkin Valet, but it appears too large, and has some issues.
Well a note 2 alone takes more than a standard usb 2.0 cord to charge at full speed. Maybe try a usb 3.0 hub and tablet wall charger. Not 100% sure its possible though

Okay, that makes it sound like I might want to change my mind about this whole one USB cord plan. How about running an extension cord instead of a USB cord, then hooking it up to a dual USB wall charger like this-
Kensington AbsolutePower Dual 2.1A USB Wall Charger (Amazon)
Would that work for two Note 2s?
If it can charge 2 ipads then it can charge 2 note ii's
Bought official Samsung galaxy S3 MHL Adapter from Best Buy... Finally a brick and mortar store had them. Some initial impressions below. Will update if I find anything new. Rooted s3 on stock ROM and interface.
S3 charger with BB cable and on 1080p Panasonic Plasma TV: Worked fine but only showed in 75% of screen (surrounded by black bars above and below). Did not test for lag.
iLuv 3 port charger with BB cable on 760p Panasonic Plasma TV: Worked in fullscreen on TV. S3 slowly lost power watching crackle, Tmobile 3G+, wifi off, plugged in 1amp port, no other devices plugged into charger. Tried same with S3 stock charger and BB cable and phone charges under same conditions.
Update: I bought a Kensington Absolute Power 2 port USB charger to charge an Asus Vivotab Smart and the S3. The charger comes with an adapter for charging tablets at up to 2.1 amps. With adapter, the S3 read around 2000mA which I am afraid would damage the phone,so I plugged it in without the adapter (per instructions). Without the included adapter the phone read around 700mA.
Again, I tried the the Samsung S3 OEM MHL adapter with the Kensington 2.1a USB charger (no adapter) and the phone slowly lost power. I tried this with both the S3 stock USB wire and a Belkin charger+data wire. I tried again with the stock S3 charger (1amp) through the MHL adapter and it charged the phone while viewing. Same Crackle episode, same 3g+ internet, same TV.
I am afraid of trying this setup with the tablet adapter for the charger, as I am afraid it will damage the phone. As a side note, I am using a 3500mAh battery from seidio.
Update: Tried the 2amp charger listed above with adapter. Interesting conclusion... besides having a strong enough power supply, you still need the OEM Samsung charging cable to charge and use MHL adapter at the same time.
In other words, the S3 charging cable with the Samsung S3 MHL adapter will charge the phone. Other cables resulted in a slow loss of power.
Update: Bought a Samsung universal charger listing 0.7 amps. Using the Samsung universal charger cable with 1. the 0.7 amp Samsung wall adapter, the 1.0 Samsung original S3 wall adapter, and Kensington 2.0 amp wall adapter all resulted in charging the S3 while using the MLH adapter with my TV.
In other words, the phone still charged using the Samsung branded 0.7 amp charger cable.
I am looking for a Car Charger that will fit for the Galaxy 10.1.
any recommendations?
Thanks!
Hello.
I picked up this charger (EZOPower 6ft 2-in-1 Samsung Tablet Data Charging Cable plus AC & Car Charger Power Adapter for Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1) from Amazon and it works just fine. You also get an extra long cable with it. Hope this helps.
Cheers!
I bought (Samsung Galaxy Tab Detachable Car Charger with USB to 30 Pin Data Cable) from Amazon for 13 bucks. You basically get a car charger with a usb slot that comes with the data cable for the Tab/Note. So you can use the charger for your phone or other USB devices if you just swap out the cable.
Would someone with a TabPro 10.1 please answer the following charging questions?
How long does this tablet take to fully charge from 25% or less charge?
If you attach a micoUSB OTG cable to a powered USB hub will the tablet still charge while using a device (USB harddrive, SDCard reader ... etc) that is also attached to the powered USB hub?
Can a microUSB OTG Y Cable concurrently charge from the standard USB charger and run an OTG USB device (e.g. SD card reader)?
I'm asking as I currently use a Nexus 10 attached to a powered hub with a USB ethernet adapter attached. Unfortunitely the Nexus 10 does not utilize the charge provided by the powered USB hub and looses charge. In this set up the powered hub only helps to power the Ethernet adapter so overall the Nexus 10 does not discharge due to the Ethernet adapter. I am hoping the TabPro 10.1 has a better charging implementation than the Nexus 10.
FYI: The Nexus 10 will not charge from its pogo connector when the micoUSB port is being used for charging or with an OTG device. The charging notification falsely indicates the device is charging.
Thanks for anyones insights.
I would like to know this too. I've purchased and the Note 10.1 2014 and this is the only issue I have with it is the lack of support for charging and USB OTG use. If the Tab Pro 10.1 or even 8.4 can charge with OTG I may exchange the Note. Thanks!
I just tried an OTG Y cable, it wont charge. I also tried a trick that worked on my lenovo windows 8 tablet where you turn the tablet off, turn it on with charger in, rip out the charger and plug in the OTG cable before it fully boots and then connect the charger to the OTG cable which allowed OTG+Power, didn't work on the tab.
IIRC this is something that can only be changed by a kernel modification as I think the old 2012 Nexus 7 could do this with a custom kernel, but I could never find a working download.
EDIT: Tried on my Tab Pro 8.4 running latest CM nightly
Hi all,
Have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 running stock Android 4.4.2 I have used an OEM Samsung charger and cable always. But recently had to replace the charging port with an OEM charging port because it completely stopped recognizing the cable.
The install went well and the port works fine.
But I recently plugged in an OEM Samsung MHL HDMI adapter to watch movies on the tablet on my TV. Adapter works great!
The problem arises when I disconnect the HDMI adapter an then plug in the regular charging cable. The cable is not recognized. And it does not charge the tablet.
The tablet will ONLY charge if I use the HDMI adapter plugged in to the OEM Samsung wall charger. I have several OEM Samsung wall chargers and OEM charging cables, but the tablet will now ONLY charge with one specific cable attached to one specific charger and connected through the OEM Samsung HDMI adapter.
I used the adapter once on my Note 3 phone, and it has no troubles connecting to any other charger. But I amit, I am hesitant to attempt to try it again with the phone. I have lost the portability of my tablet now, since it will not accept my portable battery charger either.
Any ideas? Is there some sort of setting I have to change before disconnecting the HDMI adapter? I thought it was hot swappable, although I do not try removing it while it is sending. I turn off the tablet then remove it. Am I looking at doing another charging port install? Is this common with the Note 8?
Thanks for any help.

I had that happen as well not too long ago. Took the blasted thing apart and found that the MHL adapter's usb plugin to be cheap. Had broken internally. So I bought a cheap o replacement. Fortunately the replacment had a good quality usb port, so that said, should not have the same issue.
Think I have discovered part of my issue. The MHL HDMI adapter connector is considerably longer than the standard micro USB connector. This new Port is quite snug. Didn't think much of it after initial installation, just figured that old port was worn out. I think the snug fit may have allowed some shift of the port internally, even though it is screwed in. This small shift is just enough to prevent the micro USB from making proper contact.
I was able to utilize my portable battery pack when in the field with the tablet. Just connected the pack via the hdmi dongle. It worked.
Thank you for your insight.
