aosp rom is the stock android that google delivers...its just pure stock android ported on your device
open semc roms are cyanogenmod roms...cyanogen gets the aosp rom and puts some of its features on it[themes ,cyanogenmod apps etc] and then one developer ports cyanogenmod on your device..... but it also offers an almost stock android experience
in my personal opinion aosp is somewhat faster and lighter than cyanogenmod[it also depends on the developer who ports both roms] and thats why i prefer it, but the difference is not this big...
I will just add that you can use a pure AOSP rom and add some features that you have on CyanogenMod, OmiRom, CarbonROM etc by using for example GravityBox (Xposed).
This is a good way to have an up to date device with some cool features
Some idea that we can find on derived AOSP code can be used by Google on next AOSP release too. So it's interesting to have both

Hi everyone
Can u tell me what are AOKP and AOSP roms?
what do they do?
are they better than sense roms?
AOSP is an original ROM unmodified as Google intended it to be.
AOKP is based on AOSP but has some slight modifications but not modified to the extent of CM (Cyanogen)
As to if they are better or not well that is a matter of opinion, in terms of performance yeah all AOSP, AOKP and CM ROM's will run smoother and faster than a Sense ROM but there are plenty of people who enjoy the functionality of a Sense based ROM and those who don't.
Thank you! always wondered what that was.

awesome............ dud....
aosp = android open source project
aokp = android open kang project (link https://sites.google.com/site/androidopenkangproject/)

It's not really about the Samsung/Sense apps more about the whole "layer" that i.e. Samsung/HTC put over the basic rom, (touchwiz and sense in the case of samsung/htc).
So if you'd take those layers/apps away you would just have the basis which is just AOSP.
Personally, AOKP is better as it takea some influence from CyanogenMod, which is THE most popular ROM available for devices
Sent from my Desire HD using Swype beta for Android!
new website for AOKP

They are finally in milestone 6 , ICS final and will start in JB from fresh! That's awesome news because DHD is still supported. There's pics with DHD working with JB.

So do you need clockwork recovery to flash or use aokp?

No. AOKP ROMs are like any other ROM; they can be flashed from any recovery compatible with your phone.

Generally, can we classified ROMs as AOSP, AOKP, CM, MIUI, Sense. Am I right there is other category ?

It depends on the phone. For example, on this phone we have Sense because of HTC; other phones will have other overlays (like Samsung's TouchWiz). Also, some ROMs don't reside neatly in one category; for example, we have codefireX because of Team Codefire, which is descended from AOSP, CM, and some AOKP ideas.
Hello Developers
is someone able to create an AOSP (KitKat 4.4) ROM for our Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini? It would be great if we have a "vanilla" Android version for our Smartphone and this can be used as base for other ROMs. Would be great if someone could build it
Greetings

Most ROM are based on AOSP or CM (which CM is based on AOSP) :/
And if you want a minimum ROM, there's few ROMs are even less 'bloat' and more 'vanilla' than AOSP itself.
I think he meant that he wanted an actual aosp rom, not just an aosp based rom. While we don't have a pure "aosp" rom for our phones, cyanogenmod is pretty close, slimkat is also pretty bare if you're into that. I'm sure a lot of people could port it, it just remains to be seen if any developer is interested enough to actually do it.
Yes a pure AOSP ROM would be great. The whole ROMs which are aviable for our device are based on AOSP so I think it wouldn't be so difficult to build one from AOSP isn't it?

Slim kat is equal to Slim ROM? In that case there is already a port to the S4 mini in the developer section of this forum
Hello
Please i don't interstand yet the real differences between the Custum Rom Cm, PA, Slim, Carbon
I want to instal only one for long times and want to know which is the best
I heard that CM is the must but what about the others
Thank's
right now, none are stable, so better wait. btw, all these custom roms are almost same: tweaked, deodexed, extra features missing in stock android and theme support

I agree. Also, right now I believe they are all running barebone features. CM is working on becoming more stable and the others will probably put off their implementation of features until CM is stable (a lot of them use CM as their base). I know for sure Paranoid Android for the Zenfone lacks all defining features of PA (aside from App Ops, which is Privacy Guard in CM). So far, I'm running CM until other ROMs beef up their features (I'll probably switch to Paranoid Android when it gets peek, hover, etc.)

OrionOS is preety stabe
Thanks guys, really appreciate it.
And they also with 7.0.x?
Tesla N (looks childish is that the normal theme?)
Tesla N is official and stable but has a few very minor bugs(which are. Also present in all other N ROMs at this stage.
Still Tesla would be your best option. For the theme, you may flash the Pixel Launcher and stuff and you can be more stock.

All AOSP ROMs are CM based so unless you're running OOS, you'll be running some sort of cm based ROM. Also OOS is a lot more stable and has a better camera than CM/AOSP. Pretty much everything else is the same
I'd recommend Tesla N. Camera sucks on this ROM but I use a ported OOS camera app. There's minor issues with the ROM but you can really use it as a daily driver.

Not all AOSP roms are based on cm. There are many non cm based roms available for op3 like slim, pa, orionos, tesla, and more.
Most of them are fast and stable so try to find one that suits your preferences.

Hmm I thought the underlying base was cm and then it the respective devs customize it to their liking... Well at least it was like that on the S6 but probs different since we actually have all the sources for this phone.

Many custom ROMs are based on CM, which is itself based on AOSP but heavily customised. There are a number of other custom ROMs as previously mentioned that are based directly on AOSP code.
We don't really have all sources for this phone. OnePlus has only released the essential sources (kernel, dash charge, etc).
So..this is a noob Q but Im a bit confused about aosp in nexus (it´s much different from other devices)
What exactly is aosp based roms, and where do they get the source from?
Where do I get its changelog?
Do they use the source from google stock as well, but with modifications?
In my experience with N5X, stock roms have been running smoother and more battery friendly. Which are the advantages of using aosp?
Thanks a lot :good:
