[Q] Ok Google not available? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Verizon Note 4, and when I go to turn on Google Now's "Ok Google," there is only an option for using it in the Google app or home screen. Please help!

do you have the widget on your homescreen? the one for search with the mic on it?

Turn off that same setting S Voice first, then go back to Google Now to enable it.

Ok Google only works on the home screen as the widget unless you turn it completely on. The settings are under languages/voice search/Google search. Checkmark all three options, and then you can remove the redundant home screen widget.

[Q] google voice search not auto launching?

Is anyone else having an issue with Google voice search always listening and not launching on the ok google command? Ive tried to re train several times now, turning off the settings rebooting, and then turning them all back on again, but i still almost always have to manually launch Google search.
What's funny, is both my old galaxy s3 and nexus 7 hear me, and auto launch, but the new note 4 doesn't.
Had anyone seen a fix for this issue anywhere?

Are you using a different lockscreen, or no lockscreen?
When I tried AcDisplay and the Microsoft Next lockscreen, OK Google wouldnt work with the phone off. It also wouldnt work if I had lockscreen set to "None"
Also, i think you need to have the Google Text to speech selected for it to work. I recall selecting the Samsung TTS engine once and it didnt work.

Another note. If you set up for phone to always listen per that other thread regarding Google Search "Ok Google" waking phone from sleep, I found after setting up secure lockscreen unlock using the fingerprint scanner, this option to wake the phone no longer works. Don't know if that is any part of your issue as described or not.
Standard lock screen, no fingerprint lock. I think i corrected it b qith b a suggestion in a post about this at android authority.
They suggested checki n g the samsung svoice settings, and setting it to the opposite of what it was set as. In my case, I had to turn svoice "wakeup on lock" off.
I suspect a conflict between svoice and google voice search.

How do I stop Google assistant from using hotword detection even after I turn it off?

I still get assistant popping up (the get started screen ,voice training) Everytime I say "OK Google " when the screen is on . I would like to totally turn it off and just use assistant by holding down home screen button. Still listens after I go into Google settings and turn off hotword detection .

Skynet is always listening
Stop saying "OK Google"? It's not like you accidentally say that phrase

The point is that it's still always listening

Check out Google history. Not talking browser but the actual google history. Has all sorts of stuff I said in there :silly:
I had to reboot my phone for it to take effect. I saved more battery!

I just checked my history and it only lists what I said when long pressing for Google assistant, I thought you meant it was going to list every conversation I had while phone being next to me lol

Because you're in Google! That feature can't be turned off.
The hot word detection is for when you're in a different app.

"OK GOOGLE" refuses to work until I launch the app

Hello everyone
I have Huawei Nova 3 "PAR-AL00" (Chinese version) and I seem to have a problem with Google assistant.
Phone doesn't respond to "OK GOOGLE" and that seems to have relation with app background activity because after I launch the assistant app manually and press the home button the phone starts to respond to "OK GOOGLE". But also every time I open the assistant it says "Google isn't your default assistant app" even though when I press setting I find it is the default one not the stock app "HiVoice".
Does anyone have any idea how I can solve this?
Thanks
Try to remove it from the list of hibernating apps, that did it for me on my PAR-LX1
Go to apps> Google >clear data>retrain your voice

Google Assistant Listening in Full Screen

Can anyone tell me how to stop Google Assistant opening in full screen? It used to just pop up from the bottom on my note 8, but on my note 10+ it takes up the whole screen.

The screen that you are showing is not Google Assistant, instead this is Google Voice Search from the Google App. If you launch Assistant directly (using Home Button or Gestures), it will only pop up from the bottom.

Thank you. I actually factory reset and it's working now. I definitely Had an issue during install. Google was acting really strange. It would hang when I chose some of the options and things like that period I had installed google assistant but I don't think it ever fully installed which is why it was opening up Google Voice search.

There are no "Google Assistant" app on a Wear Watch, so no "Settings" for an app wich is not on the watch. It is a system inside app like the one on Google Home pod. There are just a setting to disable voice command "OK Google" on a Wear Watch. Even if you disable Google Assistant in one of your phone all the Google Home in the House are not disabled and also not disabled on your others phones.
one of the ways to disable it:
Settings - Tap the General tab - Under "Personal“ find "Language and Input“ - Find "Google voice typing“ and tap the Settings button (cog icon)
Tap "Ok Google“ Detection
Under the "From the Google app“ option, move the slider to the left.
That's it, you have successfully turned OK Google off.
Setting=> google assistant=>disable this.
