max dpi
What is the maximum DPI setting?

For anyone that's reduced the dpi, specifically to 480, when you use the camera does the camera app take up the whole screen still? Mine only takes up a portion of it. Functions fine but odd look

Im just using xposed with the app settings module to change dpi.

Using app settings as well. Only issue is the way it shrinks the recent app windows

Root > RomToolBox > Edit buildprop and change lcd setting to 480
... also, installed xposed installer/framework > app settings
Using App settings, you can change the DPI of certain system apps back to 640 so that it shows up properly. I used the following guide which was created for note 2/note 3 but should be similar for note 4 as well.
Link below as essential apps that needs to be changed back to 640

Lower dpi?

I set my dpi on this phone to 240 and I LOVE it and the market still works fine so far! Just wondering how i can mod the dialer/camera to fit the 240 dpi. And also the stock keyboard dosent work but i dont care much about that i use swiftkey 3.
Shame the standard keyboard doesn't work, I really like it.
As to the dialer? hmm, probably need to get a replacement for that too, shame it doesn't scale either. Someone can probably hack the .apk to allow different dpi's perhaps?
What app did you use to change your density it would be cool to do that with this ginormous screen

Change the value for ro.sf.lcd_density in the build.prop. You can do this with apps like ROM Toolbox Pro.
I was running 240 as well, and loved it but the camera, dialer and Samsung keyboard issues bugged me enough to go back to 320.
I have mine set at 270 and everything, including dialer and camera works great.

That's the magic number? Excellent.
I love the 270 dpi but how do I or am I able to get the launcher to not be so high into the middle of the screen... Like the dots to show what page ur on is raised to the middle of the screen

use a different launcher. I use nova
So no suggestions for dialers or camera mods that fix the scaling issues. They are better at 270 but not perfect.
Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2001143
it's on the Sprint Note II forum but I flashed them and they all work well.
soapbox23, what rom are you using? I am on Jexi-X4 and it doesnt work...
Found this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002960
Works very well at 240 dpi, it has most of the system apps fixed that dont scale well. Need to flash keyboard zip in the QA page though for 240 dpi.

can u reduce the screen intensity?

is it possible to change the note 2's screen dpi down?
There are plenty of 240 dpi ROMs. I'm using X note now and it has multiple tablet/phablet dpis with floating multiwindows.

Or you could just change lcd_density in build.prop - but I'd recommend trying out a 240dpi touchwiz based ROM like X Note or Moon ROM. You could also download lcd ddensity changer from play store.
Be aware that if you change the density to 240dpi yourself you'll have to get 240dpi compatible versions of the Samsung keyboard, camera, dialer etc. You can find them in the themes and apps section.

If you use xposed and the app settings apk you can just change the dpi on a per app basis so the apps that only work at 320 can be left. It also gives you the option to select tablet mode on most apps too

Hey if anyones curious you can run from 380 dpi on up. There arent any ill effects and it makes the ui real sharp looking.
If you drop to 320 it will FC home but will give ya the aosp lockscreen, i didnt mess with it or drop 320-380 but if you have luck or care to elaborate heres the place!

I tried that tutorial to the word, but it didn't seem to make the icons in the other launchers look any better, so I put it all back to stock.
You guys know what the deal is with multiple DPI related build.prop values on the device whats the purpose, and what is this devices actual DPI?

You have to reboot every time for the changes to take effect, after changing the line ro.sf.lcd.density from 480 to the value you desire you have to reboot if after you reboot if it still looks the same then I don't think build.prop was not mounted as writable. The default density value for the Optimus G pro is 480, I have mine set at 400 and this is how it looks like.

I know that at least with apex launcher, you can set the size of the icons within the settings. Maybe nova or other launchrs are the sameb

yes mine too, i used dpi 400 since rooted
dpi 400's fit to my eyes nicely better than 480 that too huge

[Q] What dpi are you using ?

I'm running 240 dpi (stock is 320) the note 2 has a great screen but isn't utilised my 320 dpi.
To run in 240dpi mode I did this.
You must be rooted.
Download texdroider dpi from play store.
You also need exposed
Download app settings module from exposed.
Open app settings
Change the following
Calculator
camera
contacts
photo editor
radio
voice recorder
Gallery
Click the one you want to change
At the top of the screen slide the toggle switch to the right to activate it.
Enter 320 for the dpi
Form the drop down box for screen dp pick 800x1280
Click on save on the top right.
Do this for all apps in the list and for any other apps that fc or don't fit the screen in 240 dpi mode.
Download apex launcher and import your current launcher settings (so you keep all your folders / icons) (touchwiz launcher doesn't work in 240dpi but apex looks and acts the same)
Open texdroider and enter 240 for new dpi.
Hit apply then reboot phone.
Your phone is in 240 dpi mode.
You can now change the amount of icons you want on your home screen as well as other settings for apex launcher.
7 icons down and 6 across works best for me.
(the settings i changed in apex settings are
homescreen
portrait grid 7x6
icon size 110%
Dock settings
icon size 130%
Advanced settings
keep in memory ticked)
You can also download play store fixes for exposed to submit a normal density to google play store
I also have apex notifier and missed it for notifications
I think that's everything

DPI Question

Hello,
Had anyone changed their DPI settings on this phone? My DPI on the Note 3 wad 480 or 320 to maximize screen real estate.
How would I go about doing that on this phone?
Thank you.

Edit build.prop (lcd density) in the system folder. Mine is 640.
Are there any apps that need to be kept at the original DPI for them to look correct?

AFAIK, it's personal preference as to appearance. But there have been reports that Bluetooth pairing that requires a pin code may not pop-up if dpi isn't set properly. 640 is stock but some have reported that 620 is the best for sacs ports. Certain buttons may appear odd or not apportioned correctly with small dpi.
You can set individual per app dpi with Xposed module "App Settings". For older users' eyes, 640 or 620 dpi may be sufficient for all apps.
