i have HTC one x which is rooted and unlocked boot loader but i checked for updates after i got it unlocked and rooted , there was a new update i downloaded it and tried to install when i restart the update should be installed but every time i click restart to update the device restarts but dose not install the updates instead the device boot into TWRP recovery screen, so my question is how can i install the official updates? or is there is a way to install them manually using TWRP Recovery screen?
Is your rom still stock ? (No apps deleted) then you need the stock recovery.
What software number are you on now
2.17, 3.14 or even higher ?

Flash this recovery back and try to update again

what would this file do exactly? will it relock the boot or unroot
sorry im new in all of this so basically i know nothing
No you need the stock recovery (HTC) because the custom recovery that we use to flash roms is not capable of handling official update files from htc.
This will not lock the bootloader, it will only replace the custom recovery so that you are able to install the OTA update.
worked and updated thanks for the help
No problem !
CASE CLOSED !
BUT it unrooted the phone so i had to root it again, no biggie
Yeah thats normal ! But indeed no biggie....enjoy the day

Hi , i have htc one m8x (asia version) rooted with s-on and hboot 3.18 and software 4.4.3 ..i receive the ota update for 4.4.4 and i downloaded it , tried flashing using TWRP and didnt work ..so i heard that i have to flash the stock recovery corresponding to my software so i flashed the 2.22.709.4 recovery matching my main version and my CID htc__621 ..tried to install but it stops at 30% maybe and then a red triangle with an exclamation mark pops up .. pls help cuz i am stock with this
try this i have update today itself
Welcome to the club
First of all flash 2.22.709 stock recovery
then flash ota zip 4.4.4 which is already installed
u can flash this zip via terminal emulator method search on labtoofers post
then search for updates on phone voila done
If everything goes fine your issue would be solved in 2 hours however mine took 6 hours as I tried and tried many times
FYI you need to relock boot loader after flashing 4.4.4 ota zip
If this helped press thanks

M8 converted to GPE - cannot update OTA to 5.1

Hey guys,
I have successfully converted my international HTC M8 to GPE. From what I was reading, changing the CID should have been enough for the phone to be recognised as a real GPE for OTA updates.
Unfortunately when I try to install the update received OTA, the phone gets stuck on n error message after the reboot, during the update installation, and I can only wait for it to restart to hard reset the phone.
Any idea?
Cheers!

You also need the stock recovery, and an unmodified system partition. That means uninstall any Xposed modules through Xposed itself, and uninstall Xposed itself. It modifies /system
You can pull the stock recovery from you OTA.zip by transfering it your PC and opening it with 7zip. Unzip the firmware.zip. The recovery.img is in there. Put it into your fastboot folder and hook up you phone to your PC.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot.
Then try the OTA again

problem during update 2.10.401.8

I am running 1.40.401.8 and i'm trying to update my phone to 2.10.401.1 using the new OTA update, but after 3 times I keep running into this error:
Verifying current system...
/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.l/by-name/system has been remounted R/W; reflash device to reenable OTA updates
plaese help
If you are rooted or flashed anything via custom recovery (or even just mounted /system r/w), then you can't install OTA updates without restoring a stock untouched system image and the stock recovery.
See this post for more details.

Hey i had the same problem as you after some hours of trying i got the problem solved, you just need to download this ruu.zip file https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347759368 . Download this file and follow Instruction : rename it too "OPJAIMG" and put it on the root of your external sdcard. Next power down your phone and boot into bootloader your device should automatically detect the rom and ask you if you want to flash it or not for that click volume up button and let your phone do the work. when finish you will be good to go reconfigure your phone and check for software update, download let it install and enjoy
Sorry for the late reply.
As stated above, you can flash a RUU, but that will wipe your data. It's probably the simplest way to get back to complete stock for an OTA though.
If you don't want to lose data, there are stock TWRP backup files and stock recovery images in this thread.
I believe you also have to relock your bootloader if you're S-ON as well. I may be wrong on that point though as I'm new to HTC devices myself.
