Hi.
I'm having a weird problem with the z1 compact and its sound enhancement features.
After a while of use, the sound enhancements stop working completely. Surround effects do absolutely nothing, eq and bass controls are equally ineffective. The sound is really flat. No amount of booting or trying different versions of apps helps, only factory reset temporarily resolves the issue. I haven't been able to isolate any specific app or app version to why this happens.
Used apps are stock walkman app and music unlimited (with subscription).
I made some adb logcat available should anyone want to take a closer look (at ta.iki.fi/xperia/z1c/)
The logs show music playing with walkman app and trying to adjust "clear bass" setting for both working and failing scenarios.
Anyone else experiencing this? What's causing it? How to remedy?
Thanks.
I've found that some headphones stop being recognised sometimes while plugged, not sure why. The buttons on the HTC E240s sometimes stop working, for instance. In all cases, unplugging and replugging the headphones fixed it.
What headphones are you using?

Just regular old passive "button" type stereo headphones with normal 3,5mm stereo jack. No extra control buttons, nothing special.
There are known issues with the sound enhancements at the moment, they are non-functional in third party apps entirely! It's likely that the issue you are seeing is related.
I saw over at the Sony forum that they were aware of the issue and fix is anticipated in next update.

Thanks for the tip.
I tried your suggested solution, didn't help for me. There was something weird in the audio output during this so something did happen.
Hi all, got my LG G3 D855 yesterday moving up from a Nexus 4. My first impressions where mixed, the screen was certainly a massive improvement but the phone feels incredibly laggy in comparison to my Nexus 4, but I was willing to work with it for a while. This morning I've tried linked my phone to my car's Bluetooth just like I would with my N4 to listen to music on daily commute. However I've noticed that around 3/4 a mintue the music stutters - only when the screen is off. I tried both Spotify and Google Play Music, having the same results with both.
Anyone else with the same problems / know how to fix this? It's incredibly annoying and could easily be a deal breaker for me.
I have the D855 3GB, I don't have any BT issues (using it in the car and with BT headphones). Did you try to delete the pairing and re-pair the G3 to the car BT ?
I have the Nexus 4 too and I don't feel that the G3 is laggy as in your description (it stutters very rarely and this started to happen after I installed Xposed and some modules).
Mine is a 2GB version wonder if that is causing me some of these problems
If it's when the screen is off, it sounds like the phone is trying to save power with the cpu and is causing problems. Changing the buffering might help if you use an app that can do that, or disabling this feature of the phone could work too.
I've been using my cars built in Bluetooth audio, and also through jaybird bluebudz. Both work perfectly with no issues whatsoever, I'm in a European 16gb 855 with 2gb ram. I'll continue to test, but it's worked very well with mp3 through the standard music app

Do you know what version of bluetooth your car has and if it uses Apt-X? It could be that it has trouble with certain formats, or could just be an individual problem.
Sorry i don't know, it's a seat alhambra 2013, touch screen and built in. There is very little documentation on those things in this car. I'll Google about the jaybirds later on, but they're also very new.
I have a similar issue with tunelink auto bluetooth receiver in my car, but audio works just fine with my jbl flip speaker at home...

I've tried closing down all other apps and turning everything else off Wi-Fi, NFC etc. With regards to changing the buffering do you know of any apps that would allow me to do this?
Confirmed it was enabling ART that caused the Bluetooth audio to stutter. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for letting us know. That's a big deal for me. Also in case the problem comes back, I haven't ever used a music player that didn't come with the phone so I can't help you there.
Are any of you guys able to voice dial over bluetooth by pressing/holding the bluetooth button? Redial works fine just not voice dialing.

Are you using ART or Dalvik? I don't have the phone, but this is an important feature to me. Strongly considering this phone, but I don't want to lose features such as dialing a call with a bluetooth device.

Sorry for the late reply I was on holidays. I'm using Dalvik. Holding the headset button does nothing, double pressing the headset button does redial the last number. Google Voice Dial does not pop up. I've tried multiple headsets from different manufacturers with no luck. The BlueAnt headset says that this feature (voice command) is not supported by this handset.
There is a work around to re-map the redial button but its not the best option and only works about 60% of the time. It also costs a couple of bucks but that's not a big deal.
If you have a Android Wear device you can dial from that also.
Bluetooth Voice Dial missing is a huge disappointment for a flagship phone.
Playing around with a G3 at an AT&T store, I connected my bluetooth earpiece to the display model. I long pressed the earpiece button and a LG dialog box popped up asking what I wanted to do, listing a call xxxxx command. It listed names & numbers. I use a Plantronics earpiece. It's older, not the latest & greatest, but can be had for under $20. Does anyone else see this?
The AT&T is a model D850, if I recall correctly.
Hi there
Sorry to reopen this thread but I have noticed that I am getting audio stutter since upgrading to Lollipop. Doesn't matter which audio app I use, it happens all of them for me. Has anyone else noticed this?

I have this issue still also. On ANY Lollipop stock LG software or rom, it stutters, but on AOSP it doesn't. I even emailed LG about it to only receive a snotty reply telling me that as I had installed a custom rom my warranty was void and they wouldn't help.
Has been driving me mad for months, small but very annoying blemish on an otherwise near-perfect phone!
Hi
I'm having a really unbearable problem with the headphone jack - any slight knocks to the headphone connector cause the track to skip or pause - as if I were pressing buttons on a button controller. My headphones are mid-range Shures (i.e. high build quality) and do not cause this behaviour on other phones. Has anyone had anything similar? Or have any suggested workarounds? It makes it basically impossible to use the phone to listen to music with whilst walking...
Many thanks

Yes: I get that behaviour too.
Took mine back to the shop for a replacement. Seems to be fine on the new handset.
Same problems here. Returned the first one to Best Buy,and the new one has the same problem. It's it just a software update to fix it?
Same here. Touching or slightly tapping the headphone plug either pauses/skips the track or opens up Voicemate (which cannot be disabled in settings). There has to be some software running that 'manages' audio connections.
I tried LG support and they didn't address the issue at all but said it might warrant an RMA.
Mine was fine for two weeks and just noticed the problem today. It's highly frustrating.
Update: noticed for some reason sometimes when the headphones are plugged in it recognises it as a headset and thats when knocking the phone jack either triggers voicemate or skips tracks. If you get it to recognise it as headphones it seems to be fine.
Same here. Sometimes with my audio cable it recognizes it as headphones. Sometimes when I plug in the audio cable it doesn't work at all unless I unplug it a few times. Overall volume for audio cable and Bluetooth is pretty low too.
Last two days the problems got worse for me to the point I can't get it to detect my headphones properly, always a headset. I did notice however that if it detects it as a headset the volume would be quieter even on the same sound setting.
To stop the annoying issue for now, as I use PowerAmp, I have enabled the PowerAmp lockscreen widget and disabled the headset controls. As I never use a headset (BT or otherwise) this seems to have stopped the knocks skipping tracks for me.

Yep I can confirm above fixed issue and besides PowerAmp S**ts on stock player.
I have only noticed it in my cars when listening to Spotify . I use an aux port and a 3.5 mm cable in both. My issue is the phone not recognizing a cable is plugged in some of the time. I have to repeatedly unplug and replug until it recognizes it. Seems to work better if I unplug from the stereo rather than the phone. It had also kicked off a few times between songs. So far it's been fine with headphones, but very limited use, so inconclusive. I'm not sure if the cause, but stinks of a software bug.

Same here except it happens when I'm using Google Maps to navigate on my bike..........any little bump on the road and it goes to Voice Activation. It's really annoying and frustrating
I have to unplug and plug the cable several times in the car before it will recognize an aux connection. Thinking of trying a different cable, who knows, it might help. But it does sound like a software problem rather than a hardware one

I've tried 4 different cables, they don't seem to change the results unfortunately.

I contacted customer service (UK) regarding this matter. This is what they replied and I quote:-
Hi Steven,
Thank you for your query regarding your LG G3 (D855).
After reading through your email and looking into this for you I can advise that the problem you are experiencing is going to be down to the phone using the KnockOn Function against your leg. In this instance we would like you to try and face the phone screen so it is not touching your leg when it is in your pocket and to make sure there is nothing else in the pocket with your G3.
This could also be affected by the Genuine LG G3 head/earphones not being used. Please make sure you are using the correct Head/earphones whilst performing the above test.
If you still experience a problem after doing this then we would highly advise for you to contact us back so we are able to investigate this further and resolve this for you.
We hope this works for you Steven.
I hope my email has answered your query and assisted you today; I would really appreciate your feedback. Please help us to improve our customer service by completing the short survey after this email.
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards
Josh

Same problem
I am getting the same issue where Headphone jack: slight knocks change track.
I read Stevemiddies post about what LG said. (good work Steve for raising to them) and I dont see how it be down to the "knock on". I have taken phone out and cant replicate issue by "knocking" the phone anywhere. But the smallest of touches on the headphone input to the LGG3 causes it to pause or skip tracks...
I also read Kinnyfaifais post about how using poweramp can stop this. Great bit of advice. but i dont really want to have to pay for poweramp to fix an issue which LG should fix..it cant be right that a phone with headphones cant be put in your pocket!!! I have the quick circle case too.

For sure the response from LG was not really relevant to this issue.
I have used my Shure SE 535's, Sennheisers, Klipch's and of course the LG supplied headphones. The problem remains.
I don't believe it has anything to do with the 'knock code' personally. The problems happen every time I move the headphone jack at the point of entry to the phone.
I also have the Poweramp Pro version but despite following previous posters advice, it has not resolved the problem.
It remains deeply frustrating.

Yup! It seems to have stopped it, not triggered at all since I disabled it.
Original thread modified after i finally figured out what the problem was, original text can be found in the quote below this post.
Edit:
Ok so this is a very old annoying HARDWARE glitch.
For some reason android detects regular headphones as a special headset sometimes and this causes many annoying problems such as a nonexistant contact point causing random headset special functions to trigger. (skip music, open google voice, random volume changes, even make random calls)
Software solutions to this problem either don't work on latest Android versions or cause numerous problems and resource overhead.
Solution:
Keep plugging and unplugging headphones slowly, quickly, forcefully, etc etc until you see the headphones icon appear instead of a headset icon. Once this happens the problem is GONE until you unplug headphones and plug them back in again and don't get lucky.
It will presumably not happen with most headphones or else manufacturers would have been made to care by millions of pissed off customers. As it is they don't appear to give a damn to the plight of some of us.

It could be a software but likely both at fault.
Android OS appears to mistake regular headphones for a headset, this does not happen consistently making a hardware aspect to this problem certain.
A very simple fix would be to include in a future android the option to disable headsets entirely or allow manual switching by tapping the icon.
But they probably wouldn't do that, after all, why care about a minority?
Wait is that what the little microphone icon is? I've had that a few times, was wondering what the heck it was.

It's a very old issue. You can find mention of it in smartphones going back years.
I can't be sure but I think the headphone jack gets a faulty contact with a non-existent third contact point that only headsets use. Thereby convincing the OS that it's a headset and not headphones,
This doesn't appear to happen to all headphones.

My issue is a little different. Whenever I insert headphones (have tried 3 now). The only thing I've not yet tried was unrooting. I had Viper installed as well as Xposed and a few modules all of which I've since removed. All with no improvement. Anyone ever seen this or find a post I may have missed?
This is crazy, one day I just put my headphones that I always use in and they just worked, and every time I put them in they register as normal!
Hi, I have a problem with the headphones adapter, it works for some time, then one earphone stops working and later the second. And next day it works again but it repeats. I tried different adapters and earphones.
I'm having the same issue... Whenever I'm listening to music and I open Instagram directs for example (the same happens when I start an WhatsApp audio), I hear a "tick", and then the sound starts bugging, then one side stops. The "solution" is to unplug the adapter and plug back in... I tested another adapter, from a previous Mi A2, and it happened the same way... Probably a MIUI version bug
Can confirm. Latest Stable. Seems like related to the fingerprint whenever i touch in that area or unlock audio distort then shut down...
*HOW TO REPRODUCE*
Plug Jack 3.5mm adaptor
Play music on spotify
Open Instagram and view a Story with audio
BOM
Audio will distort and then shut down or play mono, right or sx solo
I also have this bug. It's annoying. I always play music on earphones ??
Anyone has found a solution for this?
The only way I've been able to go thru this is pausing the music, waiting a minute and play again, it's annoying and only happens with the earphones.

The only solution is to buy a new adapter, with another adapter the problem is not showing.
Tried with a chinese one, and with a Huawei, and no problems.
Just pay attention to chinese adapters, that often invert left-right channels.

Can't be that... how can the adapter that comes with the phone doesn't work? That would be ridiculous... also the channels aren't switched, and even if it were, should not fail like it is happening.

I don't know, probably a manufacturing defect...
I wasn't talking about the original one, for the switched channels problem.
I tried a Chinese adapter (not the original) bought on Aliexpress, and no failing, just switched channels.
So, I tried a Huawei adapter, and everything works fine, no switched channels and no failing.

Yeah, big issue for wired music listener like me too while doing sport. Im thinking to go bluetooth just ot avoid this kind of bug. BTW im searching a good type c - jack adapter to test even the possibility that Xiaomi messed up with a big production lot of adaptors but seems too strange.
These days for me Whatsapp is the main cause of the problem. Is not happening often with other apps.
Im having the same problem, where initially there would be static noise, and the left/right piece stops working until both are not functional.
The only solution is to unplug and plug it back.
Very annoying indeed.
