Currently desperate and not really in the market for a new phone, but very sad. Phone was never rooted or flashed (until now, I guess?). i feel like i'm soooo close, yet sooo far. and i'd rather not give up, sell the phone, and waste money on a new one. Please help.
Short version: paid someone to unlock phone. he installed some superSuperSU app, then I had to enable TMo bands using google instructions on how to enable 4g/lte for i317 on tmobile. this involved QPST Configuration program to reenable two bands. off the galaxynote2root website instructions.
currently getting cellular signal, but data doesn’t turn on until I wait for 30 minutes to an hour. And when it does turn on it’s only 4g. no edge, or 3g as far as I know. Also noticed that my IMEI is gone now.
Long version:
Was on att without problems. Switched to tmobile. The unlock code att provided never worked, even after a month and speaking with around ten att reps. So I paid someone to unlock my phone. When I got the phone back, it accepted my tmobile sim, but I got a giant no signal symbol. Figured it was the link I put above so I tried those instructions. Cellular signal is fine and I can make phone calls. BUT mobile data takes a long time to turn on. It randomly from 5 minutes to an hour. While data is connected, it’s pretty stable, but I only get 4g.
Talked to Samsung today and they weren’t able to help me and the last step was a factory reset. She also helped me confirm all the APN settings as well.

Please suggest what I can do now to enable the data? I’ve messed around in one of the debug menus, *#2263# to no success. I’d prefer not to reflash the rom. Also, how do I get my IMEI to show up again? Thank you for the help and pointers, your time is appreciated.

Last night my AT&T branded SGH-I317 phone, which I've been using on Straight Talk for a long time now without problems, decided to do an OTA update. It looks like it put 4.4.2 Kit Kat Build number KOT49H.I317UCUCNE5 on there with Baseband version I317UCUCNE5. When I woke up and this update was complete, I had no mobile data. No amount of fiddling with my APN settings brings it back. Device status states that my service state is "In service" and my mobile network state is "Disconnected."
I'm really not sure what happened, but if I had to guess, the new radio firmware killed my sim unlock that I did a long time ago to get this phone to work on Straight Talk. I can still make calls though, so not sure.
Is this a known issue? I've been searching for hours and haven't come up with anything significant. Anybody have an idea how I can get mobile data back?
sters!
Im john from the philippines and i was given this at&t Note 2 i317 by my sister that came from the us. I did a procedure which is doing the network unlock and i have no problems doing it and as expected, i managed to remove the sim lock on my phone and the phone recognized the sim card.
HOWEVER, after doing so, i lost my reception/signal and i always have this circle with line in between wherever i go. Regardless what sim card/chip im using, still showing the same icon. I have another phone (galaxy mini) and sim works fine.
I did my research and undergo flashing multiple roms (stock and custom) in Odin and Custom recovery, did clean wipe (factory reset, cache, system, data, dalvik), unroot and root multiple times, flashed Modems (from oldest to newest please see the attachments) to update baseband, did the "ping" and change the radio optio in hidden keys in dial pad to On/Off (vise versa), redo the FREE network unlock multiple times, followed the "Not Registered On Network" process, but sadly i still get the depressing same result.
BTW, the radio/modem hardware is working. There are times that the signal goes to 2 bars and has 4G connection. My wife is using the same carrier as mine and has full bars but mine is 0.
I am soo depressed right now and im about to throw this phone to the wall already. I've lost a lot of time on this to the point that my wife is already getting mad at me.
I desperately need your expert advice. I cannot send this phone to at&t since i am from the Philippines and it was only given to me.
I've attached screen shots for ur reference. I am using ezKat 4.4.2 Beta2 custom rom.
My email addresses are [email protected] / [email protected].
also, my phone can detect my simcard and the carrier is SMART TELECOM
Looking forward for your expert advice soon.
No network signal on unlocked Note 2 AT&T
Is there no one to help resolve this issue? I've been having exact same issues for sometime now on my AT&T Note 2 I317. Please any useful response will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi guys can you please help me with this?
I bought my note 5 off craigslist and it was currently on G920AUCU1AOJ1
This security notice wouldn't stop notifying me ect common error I guess when they first came out. Solved by getting app disabler.
I really wanted to get the marshmallow update, I tried OTA says it was fully updated.
I then flashed it too N920AUCU2APB2 Then I noticed it was saying emergency calls only when I tried to call someone. I just continued to flashing to marshmallow.
Now I can't even find a downgrade firmware back to my original state to get the phone to even work again! everything else works but when I looked in to about my phone
SIM card status it says Network Unknown, signal strength -113 dBm 0 asu. Mobile network UMTS, Service state out of service, Roaming Not roaming, mobile network state Disconnected.
I believe the guy I bought it from knew all this and that's why he took it back to a stock firmware.
Can someone please help me out with this? I can't even find the stockware to take my phone back! Either I would and the links broken or its for a different carrier.
I have tried everything but in vain ,I rooted this phone via the method described on this forum and worked through version 5.1.1 unlock boot loader and root and installed any custom rom but still on the network bar an X and checked the fone still says on CDMA. I need to Kow from the developers any chance to make this fone work on 2G or 3G GSM network band 900mhz and 1800mhz ,if yes what do I need to do to achieve this ,please guide me as this fone when it came first it was working on 910F version 5.0.1 firmware while in ODIN it was 910v until when I typed *#9090# when it started the problem when I wanted to update it. I WOULD NOT MIND TO BRING IT BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS BEFORE WHEN IT CAME TO ME AS LONG AS IT WORKS ON GSM NETWORK. RIGHT NOW I FLASHED THE ORIGINAL FIRWARE ,FONE BOOTED BUT WHEN HARD RESET IT SHOWS DM VERITY FAILED AND IMEI IS CHANGED, I HAVE Z3X ,OCTOPUS,ASANSUM, AND CHIMERA TOOL TO HELP ME SOLVE THIS. PLEASE PLEASE GUIDE ME
The N910V covers the 900 and 1900 MHz bands natively so that's not the problem. In fact, to use the N910V - just to be clear, that is the Verizon model of the Galaxy Note 4 so make sure that's what you've got 100% - can use 2G/3G modes without rooting or any customization of any kind because it's factory unlocked so the only reason it wouldn't work would be either a) there's a defect in the phone itself (after it's been factory reset) or b) there's a defect with the SIM card reader, potentially a broken pin someplace in the slot and that's somewhat tough to troubleshoot or repair simply and would require replacing the entire reader or perhaps even c) you're missing the APN data that is absolutely necessary to ensure things are going to work properly. From a technical standpoint the APN data isn't necessary for basic network connectivity aka making actual phone calls or receiving/sending SMS messages but it is absolutely necessary to get the data connection working for Internet access.
I would suggest you do this:
- put your SIM card into the phone, whatever one you're hoping to use for cellular and data service, I'm hoping you understand that the SIM card has to have active service on it - and I'm not talking about the phone itself: if your intention is to use the N910V with a GSM carrier then it doesn't matter if it was ever activated or not with Verizon because it's a carrier unlocked device
- find the N910VVRU2BPA1_N910VVZW2BPA1_N910VVRU2BPA1_HOME.tar.md5 pure stock 5.1.1 firmware and flash it with Odin (phone in Download mode, of course)
- don't do anything else with the phone except flash that firmware and as soon as it's done flashing boot into the factory recovery do a wipe - the easiest way to do this after the Odin flash is watch for it to reboot the first time which will go right into the factory recovery, as soon as that ends hold Volume Up + Home and it'll reboot right back into the actual recovery then do the data/cache wipe and then wipe cache separately just in case
- let the phone boot up normally, leave it alone for 15 minutes and I'm totally serious here, 15 solid minutes, don't touch it, just leave it alone and let it boot and settle for 15 minutes
- after 15 full minutes have passed, go into Settings - More networks - Mobile networks - Network mode and set it for Global if it isn't already - DON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE, NOTHING, DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE AT ALL, then let the phone sit for 15 minutes once again
Yes I know you're impatient, we all are sometimes, but this not one of those times, you have to leave the phone alone and let it settle for 15 minutes in the step and if you're not willing to do that you may never get it working like you want
What I've learned over time is that being impatient sometimes works against you and that some smartphones - most notably Samsung models in my experience - take time to get their network connectivity on occasion so you have to be patient here and let the phone handle "business" as it needs to do. Some phones are nearly instant with a connection, others need time, so be patient, have a cup of coffee or soda or water, read a book, do something for 15 minutes and don't touch that phone.
After 15 minutes take a look at it and you should have some network connectivity, at the absolute bare minimum it should be connected to your carrier and you can make a phone call or send a text message or call customer service (usually 611). If you don't have any service whatsoever at this point then go back into the Settings for Mobile networks and set the Network mode to LTE/GSM/UTMS and - yes, I know you hate this but it's got to be done - leave the phone alone for another 15 minutes.
If after this second waiting period for the network connection to happen it still doesn't get a connection for basic cellular use - no data yet, that might not happen till you put in the APN info if that becomes necessary but that's the next step only if you get the basic connectivity working - then there's something broken on the phone. As stated above if the SIM card has service, there's no logical reason the N910V won't connect to the network for making a phone call unless there's a defect in the phone itself, something is broken or something got configured in some manner in your attempts to get it working and you're possibly looking at a phone you might not be able to get working with your carrier.
If you've got basic cellular service working but no 2G/3G/HSPA+/4G LTE service showing (that's the data connection and not the cellular which shows the signal bars meaning you are on the network) then you need to put that APN data in manually since the phone doesn't seem to pull it from the SIM card as expected. That's a step you'll have to take care of on your own as I don't know your carrier or the specifics of the APN configuration which I'm sure you can find at your carrier's support website.
Anyway, give that a shot. Best advice: stop mucking around with all the rooting/recovery/ROMs and get the phone working FIRST on the carrier's network using the pure stock ROM - once you can do that then you can worry about doing all the neat stuff and customizing things later on. If I had to guess you jumped the gun, missed something in all the experimentation you've done so far and just basically been too impatient in some situations and not let the phone settle long enough to get that connection. I've done that many times on some phones and got pissed about it only to discover that when I stopped messing with the device and just left it sitting all by itself that magically the network connection kicked in after a period of time, usually no more than 15 minutes.
You apparently have a lot of smartphone modification hardware and I'm betting if you messed with it you broke it, now it's up to you to fix it.
Hope this helps...
I've tried everything, so hopefully someone can shine some light into this issue.
I bought a new (unused but from a 3rd party) Samsung Galaxy A50 (A505U) Verizon branded and unlocked. Got a sim card from Visible and went to get it connected. Nothing. WiFi works, everything works, but no cell service.
Here's what I've done (some multiple times)
- reset everything to include network settings, hard reset, etc
- removing the sim, resetting, putting the sim back in. I always get a notification saying the sim card is removed and it goes away when I put the sim back in, so it is recognizing a sim card is in there
- switched sims with another Visible phone/sim and nothing. Both sims worked on other phone but neither worked on this phone
- tried getting into the hidden menus but none of them worked
- talked to Visible tech support which upgraded the issue to the highest level and concluded it's the phone
- Visible believes it's the APN settings but I cannot edit current APNs nor add new ones (grayed out)
- manually add networks, I can see Visible, TMobile, ATT, and some weird numbers, but when I try to connect to Visible it says cannot register on the network, other networks say the sim is not setup for them
- sometimes I get the icon that shows all bars but they're grayed out, sometimes it shows 3-4 bars lit up, sometimes even shows a 4G icon, but mostly the grayed out bars
- sent the phone to Samsung, they tested it and found no faults, guess the hardware is good, ruled that out.
- got into dev options but I'm aware the OEM unlock is not on option on the A505U, not sure if I can change anything else.
I'm out of options. Any other ideas? I think if I can either get into the hidden menus I'll be able to diagnose it better, or if I can somehow change the APN settings I'll be able to set it up. Visible tech support thinks it's the APN, which makes sense to me, but I can't change them.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I was able to get into the CSC change function, there's not many there, but would changing the CSC help? If so, which should I go to?
I've had a similar issue. Was working fine until the Android 10 update arrived. Since then, it won't work with my total wireless sim card. Tried 3 different sim cards on it, but nothing. Can't add it do anything with the APN, and getting into the phone info hidden menu doesn't help any. I suspect it's a bug in the new firmware or something like that. Works fine with a Verizon SIM though.
Update: Verizon SIM no longer connects to phone. Still works with LTE data. It seems that the CDMA radio quit working with the update to Android 10. Must have been collecting to the Verizon network with VoLTE until it updated the provisioning or something.
So, I finally figured out a workaround for mine that was able to get both data and voice networks to connect while using total wireless, which is an MVNO on the Verizon network. I pretty much narrowed it down to being an issue with the modem not working with CDMA. What I did was download the last Android 9 firmware and flashed just the modem (file starts with CP_) using Odin. After that, I rebooted it and voila! It connected.
Just thought i would give my experience as i just delt with this. i got my 10 update this morning nd let it update and apon a reboot i lost all mobile connection, a signal bar would show for a few seconds looking like it was trying to lock in a signal and it would go back to the ⌀ symbol. i tried flashing the android 9 modem from 2 different updates and neither fixed it. i just decided to order a new phone as i feel its time anyways. my next attempt will be to flash android 9 back using odin then just throw this phone up on craigslist
edit: odin successfully flashed back to android 9 and signal now works again. so if anyone has this issue you can try the method above of just flashing the modem and if that doesnt work you can go back to 9 and restore functionality of verizon mvno's

Visible
samsung a50 not connecting to VZW towers (red pocket)
My phone is doing the exact same thing and while I can appreciate how you resolved the issue it doesn't make much sense to me.
I use Red Pocket for my network. (Which uses Verizon towers - I use the CDMA Sim)
Before this major update to 10 my phone worked flawlessly. Now it won't connect to the network much like you guys have stated in this thread. Mine will connect intermittently for like 3 or 4 min tops and then get kicked off the tower and will actually not show any bars (Circle with a line through it) to show no service for about 10 or so minutes then restart the whole process.
I also have a work phone (2nd phone) that is directly tied to the verizon towers on the verizon network. If I take the sim out of that phone and put it in my samsung a50 the samsung a50 is happy and can make phone calls, send texts, and stays on the vzw towers with no disconnects.
If I take my red pocket sim card and place it in my work phone that phone also works just fine - send messages, make phone calls, and stays on the vzw towers with no disconnects. (work phone = iphoneXR - it's free, sue me)
Even though reverting the modem obviously fixes your issue I do not think that is the actual problem. It also doesn't seem that a third party carrier is being randomly booted off the towers, it seems to be a glitch with third party carriers using third party sims utilizing this new android 10 software that VZW towers do not like.
Which obviously points to an issue with Samsung's latest software not being compatible with third party carriers.
I can't seem to contact Samsung in a direct manner to resolve this issue as they want me to take it to a third party store to have it looked at. I spent 2 and half hours with tech support from red pocket and they came to the conclusion that VZW was doing "upgrades/maintenance" to their towers in my area. (whatever that means.
Any ideas on how I can contact Samsung directly to detail this issue to them? I really do not want to have to root my phone in order to use odin to set my modem back to version 9 as I'm hearing that doing so voids all kinds of implied warranties with the phone and it's only 6 months old.
Appreciate any help that you guys might be able to steer me towards.
Thanks.
Before this major update to 10 my phone worked flawlessly- They Told you the answer, Odin # 9 or if its under warranty take it back Good luck.
My phone (SM-A505U) wasn't even working on visible before android 10.
