I have tried to enter the fastboot mode in several ways.....
1. pressing Vol Down+Power button, but no luck whatsoever.
2. pressing the power button for 10 seconds
3. downloaded "quick boot" from play store. But it says u don't have the root access and the program stopped.
4. there is no "power option" in the settings menu.
I cant update this phone because of this problem. Also I cant use 3g in this phone as i cant select "WCDMA/WCDMA/GSM Auto".....Whatever i choose, it remains "GSM only"......

I found this on another forum:
### START
Please follow the steps below to be able to solve the problem
Soft Reset :
Remove the battery, then re-insert it.
Note: Soft resetting your phone deletes all unsaved data.
safe mode:
Press power key then press and hold the menu key
1. Press " power key " for power on device
2. Wait until "HTC logo" appears on screen
3. Press and hold " Volume down key " until entering OS
4. " Safe Mode " text will appears on the lower left of screen.
1.If the display is off, press the POWER button to turn it back on.
2.Unlock your phone if the Lock screen is displayed. See “Unlocking the screen” in the Getting started chapter.
3.Press and hold the POWER button, and then tap Restart.
4.When asked to confirm, tap Restart.
If you can’t restart the phone following the above steps, remove the battery, wait for a few seconds, reinsert the battery, and then turn the phone on.
### END
Using the above procedure the DHD does NOT go into safe-mode. have you tested this ?
thats becuase we dont have a menu button.
Yes we have. Take a look at the button that says "Menu" on your device.
That is not actually a button its touch sensitive and that doesn't work when your booting

2: If you see the HTC logo on white background press and hold the "volume down" button
3: Still hold until the phone as vibrate
4: Release the button if you see in the bottom corner: Safe Mode
work on my phone and checked several times

Safe-mode for DHD.
Has anyone tested the above method ?

how do you get off the safe mode????
this method is tried and tested. To get out of safe mode all you need to do is turn the phone off then back on in the normal way
I am flashing my brothers DHD (I have a Desire) from LeeDroid to Android Rev, but I seriously cannot remember how I got into recovery to do it? As standard, I have tried booting holding volume down as you would with the Desire, but it just boots normally.
Now I remember this happening before and I had to disable "fastboot" under settings > applications... but this option is no longer in the settings menu!
I figure I have to do this:
Clear partition/cache
Run SuperWipe
Install ROM
Install NoSense
Install Radio
But, how do I get started on this process. I just cannot get into recovery mode! Halp!?
Fastboot is now under Settings > Power.
Disable it then power off, hold down volume and power on.
Or if you've got ROM Manager installed, open it and select 'Reboot into Recovery".

Strange... I managed to get into recovery randomly after unplugging the battery a few times when the phone wouldn't turn on at all! Anyway, good to know that Fastboot moved, it's weird, I googled and googled, but couldn't find anything!
I managed to install Android Revolution and NoSense which works great. Now to get Radio installed.
I read very good thread about rooting my phone, and I am stucked on a first step.
Cant enter hboot menu with volume down + power. how is that possible?
My phone is s-off.
probably you have not disabled the "fast boot" option.
To do so you need to go into the settings, select " battery" and then uncheck the option " fast boot"..switch off, and try again..should work..
I was like you : enable to enter in boot menu.
That was because I was doing the wrong manipulation.
To enter to this boot menu, power off your phone, remove a few seconds you battery, plug it again.
Then, press Vol-. Hold it. Press power button during 1 second, always press Vol-. And release Vol- when boot menu appears.
If it doesn't work, remove your battery and try a new attempt.
You'll probably need to practice a little.

It helped. Now I have rooted Wildfire S
Any recommendation for custom rom?
I have HTC Wildfire S from Orange branded 2.3.5 and trayed all and can enter H-Boot - nothing many times use pull battery then Vol- + Power - many combinations also ,enabled or disabled Fast Boot in option and nothing always boot Normal to Android
I tried flashing ViperOneM8 1.8.0 (ViperOneM8 1.7.1 -> 1.8.0) which I guess was the wrong thing (I think that was an update, should have started with 1.7.1 first). Anyway... Now my M8 boots to some type of android base OS without a lot of things...
1) It's not possible to get to settings as there is no settings app in the app drawer.
2) There is no title bar/task bar at the top. The area that holds the time, and a few icons at the top is gone.
3) There is no background.
4) There is no way to get on the WiFi do to #1 and because of this I can not add my google account. That in turn means no google play store access.
But the BIGGEST thing of all... I CAN NOT BOOT TO FASTBOOT!!!
- Power the device off.
- Hold the volume down button (also tried the volume up button) + press power usually boots strait to fastboot mode.
I THINK it has something to do with the fact that by default in the settings I need to untick the fastboot option in the dev options.. Well I can't get to settings. Now what?

Shut down phone.
Turn it on
Hold volume up+power button until it restarts
As soon as you get the black screen for restart release power button and hold volume down.
If your timing is right you will enter bootloader.
I tried it and it definitely works
Flash your nandroid or any rom you know was ok to begin with and you are up and running!!!

Tried that...
1) Powered off device.
2) Held power button for about 2 seconds until it came on then let go.
3) IMMEDIATELY I pressed and held down the power and volume up buttons.
4) The phone continues to boot up a little bit longer and gets to the verizon check (verizon splash screen) then shortly after goes black (as expected).
5) IMMEDIATELY let go of power button continuing to hold volume up button.
... .. .. .
6) I get the white screen that says HTC (powered by android)... NOT a bootloader screen as expected.
Update... When I try to click on the app drawer then top right click the little three dots, I try and "Manage Apps" ... ERROR "App isn't installed"...
:/

If you connect the phone to the computer, can you get fastboot or adb to recognize the phone?
If so, you can try adb reboot bootloader command or fastboot reboot bootloader comand

Yea, I ended up doing the following...
1) While device is powered on, Press and hold Volume Up + Power until device reboots.
2) When it starts to reboot continue holding the Power button and change to the Volume Down.
That worked for me.

Are you using the correct steps to enter recovery mode?
1. Power off your phone
2. Press and hold the volume up button, then press and hold power until the phone vibrates
3. Let go of power ONLY
4. Use volume keys to select recovery mode on the next screen.
5. If you have stock recovery, it will say "Error". While holding power+Vol down, press and release Vol up.
