Ok, I dont have internet in my house I use my cell phone.
The thing is with full bars I'm getting 512kbs in 3G, (My download speed is like 50kbs/s ) is that normal? Is there a way to improve that? I ask because I use it for online games and the ping is not the best but is not that bad is around 230 - 300 sometimes spikes to 999 but it goes back. Just wondering if thers a fix or something that can help improve it.
Thanks.
check out this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922978
it worked for me but after following the steps detailed in the first post do as follows:
hit back and then click on data profile -> menu -> restore
hit ok until the phone restarts and let it go through all of the activation stuff.
once it says updating prl hit cancel. from there you should have faster speeds. worked for me
I did as you sayd, but no improvement. Thanks anyways
Check in the General section of the forums for a thread titled, "Data Speeds, wtf?" It's all about the network speed issue. Sorry can't post the link :/

Are you rooted or not? (and if so, what ROM?)
Yes i'm rooted, and im on acs kron elite III or something like that.
Well i read all the post tried some stuff that made my phone los data because of the prl, etc etc... (fixed it by downloading the prl out of the internet)
but still same d/l speed & ping
I have a rooted evo using one of about ten roms depending and my gf is unrooted. Now we live in 3g only area and her phone probably has never been in a 4g area where mine is everyday when I go to work. I've tried everything I know to try. The media stream fix, the throttle cap fix on various roms, have the most recent radios and such. Even done the combo package to make certain i have the latest stuff. I'm using prl 01115, 1.90_003,3.70.651.1 and 2.15.00.11.19 on hardware version 0003. Used unrevoked and doesn't matter which bu clockwork up until month ago then used amon ra. I get almost an exact download speed after 100 tests over period of a few weeks at around 133kps. My gf unrooted evo using identical phone with at least week of tests she gets on average about 1Mps. My 4g speeds at work are awesome. Even during the busy period of the day I get 6Mps. I've got as many as 10 to 12 late at night. Get the standard upload as well. I'm out of options? Please help.....i'm past the nob stage i suppose to a rookie, but i catch on if explained as far as extensive stuff goes. Change roms, kernels, boot animations and basic themes and mods are where my experience ends. Any advice?
do you guys have the same PRL and pri? that could account for differences in speed
Yes....doesn't matter if they aren't the same we still get same speeds pretty much, but yes they are the same. A little more info for you. We have same settings as far as roaming etc etc. That isn't it. There is one tower specifically we use. Kinda small town and that tower covers city limits pretty much. There is another by the interstate way the other direction but i'm dead certain we use the same tower. Get about three quarters to almost full signal on both phones in same areas good or bad. Another issue is and I hate to say this, but dude I use my phone alot. I stay online with it god knows how much. Lets just say I use my no cap data like a mofo. My gf however is a sprint data dream. Pays for extra data never in 4g and most blackberry users use more data. Dunno?
anyone else?
I dont put much stock in speed tests, benchmarks etc.... My wife, daughterr and myself all have evos and I've tested all of them and they're all different. Of course mine is the fastest because I'm special...
Sounds like what happened to me. What PRL are both of you running?
I understand what your saying guy, but over a period of two weeks at least five tests per day and they all are within 100 kbs of each other in results and her phone avg is 1.2Mps and mine is 133kbs. Dude that is a HUGE difference. Either i'm being throttled or something is wrong with my phone, but what? I've reset and updated and done every possible thing I can to improve it and no matter what I do my avg speed stays around the same or is zero. I might add that i've done this using several different speed test sites. I range from 120 to 140. I'm out of possibilites. I need help from someone that knows more than me for sure.
We are both running latest. Both phones were updated to the latest prl couple days ago.
I believe some of us are being throttled, to heck with the naysayers! Do you have root explorer? If so try this....
Open Root Explorer
Select DATA
Select SYSTEM
Select THROTTLE, Delete this File/Folder and in a minute or so run speed test again (a few times).
Your speeds should increase, mine do, I go from .200 down to 1.3 down! BUT, the file will rebuild itself within 5 minutes or so, once it does my speeds are back to .200 down. The way around this for me was to use a Hacked PRL #00001 found HERE. This will have you as roaming, but if you use WiFi as much as possible, dont tether your PC to download Torrents, it should be OK. I havent seen where anyone has been canceled from using this Hack, yet anyway
cool....gonna give it a try. be back in few and give results.
Or you could just downgrade your prl like me. I went back to 60675 and dl speed s are back up

Fix: I dont take the credit, but just letting you know.
First, I downloaded the sprint PRL's from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029900)(thanks to cordell12)
They should be in the second post. After downloading, unzip them onto the root of your SD cards.
Then, download the EPST.apk (I have attached it). In Android 2.2, they removed the ##775# PRL functionality, and this .apk will give the functionality back. Download the .apk and move it to system/app folder using root explorer. Tap to install.
After it installs, go to a dialer (you need to have a sense on I believe) and press ##775#. It will prompt you to enter your MSL.
After entering the MSL, it should take you to a screen with the "Update PRL" option. Click it. After a few seconds, it should bring up all the .prl files you have (you unzipped them earlier). Choose the 60677.prl file. Click ok.
Press the menu capcitive button, and click "Commit Modifications". The phone will automatically reboot.
P.S. Can you test your speed and tell me if it worked?
Sorry...Easter bunny showed up for my gf lil girl. Ok I'm here on my Evo on stock browser lil slow.
Just follow what I said earlier...it worked for me

Mine will vary from a .200 to 1.0 increase (depending on time of day) just from deleting that file. I tried to change permissions on the file and when it went to do whatever it does I got sent into a never ending bootloop It took a nandroid to bring me back!

Are the ROMs your running AOSP?
If so, flash to a sense rom and update prl and and profile.
I had a huge drop. from 1.3mb to 300kb, because id been on AOSP for so long and had ignored my profile, i was only two prls behind, profile can help alot
After updating my PRL my 3g data speeds were pretty bad, sounds the same as your problem. I did this and it fixed it right up, back to normal now.
Does anyone know of a good data usage widget for hercules?
Sent from my HercuBEAST!!!
i used this https://market.android.com/details?id=net.rgruet.android.g3watchdog
when i had a limited data plan
since i got unlimited, i totally removed it off my phone
I also use 3G Watchdog.
Works fantastic. Tells me how much data I used today/this week/this month/this cycle, and what I am trending to do for the cycle. You set your bill cycle start date and data cap limit.
I like traffic monitor better than watchdog, its just a widget but it tells youvur data usage on wifi and mobile, even which apps are using data and how much
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.radioopt.widget
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
both are good choices, but 3g wathdog is more accurate IMO, it also has backup/restore option so you can continue to monitor your data usage, eve after you wipe and flash to a new ROM
I dont think theres one that auto tracks like the droid phones. All these ones you have to enter in the info
Sent from my HercuBEAST!!!
define auto track, what do you mean by that?
if the apps don't auto track, then you'll never have updated accurate information
so, i've no clue what you are trying to say
data apps
3G Watchdog wasn't tracking any usage for me on this phone(because I'm not using 3G?). I installed one from the market called My Data Manager Free that is ok. It's more basic but seems to do the job. I've only been using it for 2 days, so I don't really know how accurate it is.
*Edit*I re-loaded 3g watchdog this afternoon and it seems to work fine now. Not sure why it didn't work when I loaded it the first time.
3g watchdog ou have to enter your billing cycle so it resets. I was wondering if there was one that jst tracked my data withoit me entering in anything
Sent from my HercuBEAST!!!
Just use the My Account app installed on the phone. Tells you how much data you have used, how many minutes talk time and SMS messages.
I have been experiencing a lot.of issues with any data monitor not working. Any ideas?? Thanks

Ever since I flashed d2tmo CM10JB, I've had slower speeds. Can't get over 8Mbps. Before, especially in the morning, I could get as high as 22Mbps.

are you on 4G? did you backup and then restore your IMEI via one of these methods?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804123
or
a more in-depth method, might work better;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801997
Easiest way to tell is to do a speedtest with somebody else's phone if they have T-Mobile and see if they get the speeds you used to get. Getting slower speeds from CM10 can be a possibility as it is still new and not fully optimized yet.

The stock ROMs don't have it. ASOP has it, I wonder if AKOP has the same problem.

Possible Fix?
I made the following changes to my build.prop (located in the root>system folder) as suggested from a friend with similar tmobile woes on his HTC one S.
ro.ril.hsdpa.category = 24
ro.ril.hsupa.category = 6
ro.ril.hsxpa = 4
ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule = 2
Note: I had to enter some of these manually in the build.prop file as they were not there.
Data has been very random for me, but this appears to have fixed my slow data issues for the time being. I would love feedback from other with slow data to see if this helps them.
----------------------
BreakDown (for those who want to know)
ro.ril.hsdpa.category & ro.ril.hsupa.category - These values set maximum speed for the network
ro.ril.hsxpa - This value determines which networks you connect to by default. my CM10 had this set to 1, but tmobile uses 4 by default.
ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule - This value will stop your network from constantly switching between 3g and h+ (note: mine still switches quite a bit, but switches to h+ immediately when using data)

The slow data speeds on AOSP/AOKP have been fixed for about a month now.
Same thing as OP.
When I first got the phone stock, I was able to get up to 14mbps.
Now I can pull off about 12mbps max.
Also, the signal is weaker. I only get 1 bar at home.

Thanks for the info, although I still have to apply these setting to get reliable data. If I don't make these changes I get on average 0.5 mbps. I have gone back and forth between build.prop files and for some reason the stock CM10 build.prop causes issues for me.
Up front ill admit sorry I suck at writing guides but ill do my best
Step 1: Root
Step 2: Is an adaptation of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1962752
Instructions:
- Goto Market And Install APN BACKUP & Restore - Run it Once. - ( Ignore warring on open! )
- Close APN BACKUP & Restore
- Open Titanium Backup
- Go to backup/restore tab
- Find APN Backup & Restore on the list
- Long press on the app when you find it
- Select Convert to system app
Now ..
- Open APN Backup & Restore
- Click menu and disable ICS check
- Close program and re-open it. - ( No More Warring! )
- Choose: Backup APN's! - ( This Will make a backup! )
- Close APN Backup & Restore
- On a computer locate your APN backup you created and open it in a text editor and find the pcweb.tmobile.com and replace it with fast.t-mobile.com
- Now Open APN Backup & Restore
- And pick Delete APN's - ( Not Delete Backup Files! LOL )
- Now Pick Restore APS's
- A List Comes Up .. Pick the backup you created and edited previously
- Let it restore .. Close APN Backup.
Step 3 go to the native hotspot and try to tether, it will try to upsell you that is expected decline as usual
Now go to your APN list in settings you should see a new APN called tethering that can be edited
Step 4 edit the pcweb.tmobile.com portion of the apn to fast.t-mobile.com
Step 5 open titanium backup and freeze the tethering provision (this will break the native hotspot enabling in settings, this is expected)
Step 6 download Chainfires hotspot control https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.hotspotcontrol&hl=en launch it and press enable access point
At this point the hotspot should enable, the control app itself may crash that is fine, you can now access the settings to change the access point name and security via the menu bar and the settings will stick.
This worked for me hopefully it works for others please let me know and feel free to ask questions, if someone wants to clean this up a bit feel free
EDIT: I do want to mention I did the XML edits from that the post linked on Step 2 to unhide the tmobile tethering APN so please let me know if the instructions fail I may need to incorporate that as well essentially somehow I made the native tethering ignore the hidden apn and start creating its own which is what allows this to be successful

My testing says at first boot these are hard coded to the system. I'm not able to get settings to stick post boot. Change these before flashing your rom and it should be permanent.
This changes routing overall, its permanent and even though you get an error in settings works fine if you toggle from the taskbar.

Sorry for the noob question: Does this have any benefit for those on the 500mb or 2.5gb plan? Based on what's being changed, I'm assuming this only benefits those on Unlimited data plans who want to use more than 2.5gb while tethering.

TMobile or the Note 3 software itserlf, is doing some serious throttling.
When im not tethering, I get a serious throttle of slow data when using any Torrent app on the phone it self.
As for tethering, I tried multiple methods from the method in this thread, to PDANet using USB, and after about 5 minutes of constant tethering, my data is slowed down to almost dial up speed.
I get good LTE coverage in my area. Speed tests range from 5Megs to 15Megs down.
From the looks of it, there probably wont be any full proof torrenting or tethering until some good roms start to develop.
Especially if we get a pure AOSP rom. That will help on whatever firewall is currently installed on the phone.
