3 more questions rolled into one thread...
1. I cannot really remember whether I acquired root by going through the official Sony unlock procedure or no. So I don't know whether my BL is locked or unlocked, how can I tell for sure?
2. I would like to update Recovery, have an old version of the DualRec package installed (x.y.z.107) and I know x.y.z.154 is the most recent. Can I just take the flashable version (Z1C-lockeddualrecovery2.7.154-BETA.flashable) of that and use the current Philz Touch version 6.26.6 to update it? Also, my version of Philz is 6.26.6. It seems incapable of allowing backup of the and-sec partition, will an update by flashing the most recent DualRec fix this?
3. What is the procedure to put the TA partition back in and what features does it really regard? What will be re-enabled, assuming by the TA keys are not intact as of now?
1. You do not get root access by unlocking your bl but you can gain root access by flashing a kernel with root access if you wanna check if your unlocked just plug your phone into fast boot mode and if it shows bootloader status as ROOTED your unlocked
2. Use cwm instead it works fine
3. Use the backup ta tool to restore ta its in cross development forum
ta partition has the drm keys thats required by some media apps like track id
Hope this helped you

I would like to unlock the bootloader in order to flash doomlords kernel for overclocking.
My device is rooted (gingerbreak) and updated via OTA to 2.3.4.
I read that unlocking the bootloader via official SE way will wipe all data, so i need some confirmation regarding my backup-plan.
This is how I plan to do it:
1. backup all my apps and data (sms,call-log etc.) with titanium backup (i really need my savegames and stuff..)
2. unlock bootloader as described here http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/
3. flash doomlord kernel for stock firmware as described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176502
4. install titanium backup and recover all backups (reboot)
5. fry device via overclocking
So here comes my question. Could this plan work? i really really dont want to reinstall all my apps.
Thanks for any help.

I had a bit trouble getting fastboot to work, but after that it was a piece of cake. thanks again for confirmation.
Hi guys,i have in my hands an italian xperia play(r800i) with the last 2.3.4 firmware(i dont remember if it is .64 or .62,in every case it is the latest firmware.my question is:how to root and next install cwm?i read of a method with fastboot which start a recovery for install the xperiaroot.zip.it is valid for my phone?and next, how to make recovery permanent without changing kernel?is this method valid? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437840 i specify that the phone has locked bootloader.
Up Someone can reply one of this questions?thanks
You can't use fastboot with a locked bootloader. Also you need root before you can run that CWM app. To get root follow this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859
Then you can just run that CWM app to install recovery. This is somewhat permanent, as it stores the recovery in your system partition, this isn't as secure as your kernel partition, but I don't think that's a problem really.
very thanks,so if in future i install that recovery and next i want to flash the doomkernel,i can't because that kernel is incompatible with a previous installed CWM?
Hi there, i managed to root my device a few days ago by downgrading, rooting and upgrading to .757 again.
Is it possible to delete apps, settings etc etc and fresh install .757 but keep Dual Recovery and root available without going through several downgrades and upgrades again? I have a locked bootloader and a backup of TA but would prefer to keep it locked if possible.
Ive been messing with root apps and installed something thats burning through my battery at double the usual rate and want to go back to a fresh copy of .757 rooted.
Also whats the easiest way to make whole backup of device once fresh installed again so can restore quickly to rooted .757?
Thanks for look.
Use this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2688933
But dont uncheck wipe data on flashtool process for a fresh .757 install
p.s Personally i use titanium backup pal

If u have backup of TA then the easiest way will be unlock BL, flash 757 firmware, flash doomlord kernel with cwm recovery, root using cwm, flash dual recovery using cwm, flash stock kernel using flashtool and then restore TA.. It would be the easiest way and all the drm keys will be intact....

Sweet thanks guys, i used the tutorial posted and had it done in 5 minutes. I will be unlocking bootloader eventually but have not found a need to yet, is it really required for anything except custom kernels and cd drive emulation?
Ive also seen a few custom roms listed with stock kernel, modded with things like CM privacy guard and other tweaks and such. Can these roms be run on a locked bootloader if using stock kernel and will these roms still have the Sony DRM required features enabled if run on a locked bootloader?
Thanks again!
U will get the requirements about locked and unlocked bootloader in each rom thread

Never tried, but even though root may not be needed, unlocked bootloader probably is. Magisk non-system works by patching boot img... If you unlock bootloader you probably can use it.

You can unlocked bl by official Sony method, then flash recovery with adb. Boot to recovery and flash Magisk.
Backup ta - https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/universal-dirtycow-based-ta-backup-t3514236
Unlock bl - https://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader
Recovery img - https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=961840155545588613
You can try flashing recovery within locked bl, but I don't think it would work.

So, if you was wondering it, no, cant flash it with locked bl.
At the moment Backup ta didnt work, will check that thread
And thanx the help, nice to have you on z1c forum :good:
perfect. thx! i was already wondering, if i had to downgrade my z1c in order to get the recovery back. but now, how i do i flash magisk from here?
when i try to flash, i get an error message saying, that the ftf is in sony elf32 format and that i need bootbridge from @AdrianDC to flash.
anyone ever did that or has a better idea?
just tried it now and ended up in a bootlop
It is many months after this post, but in case this helps anyone, here is the answer.
BootBridge method is pretty simple and it worked for me.
On an un-rooted device. (important)
Just rename magisk zip to "install.zip" put it in a folder called install.
Then with 7zip, create a zip-file, include the bootbridge folders, "META-INF" and "scripts" with the "install folder" you just created.
Then name it "anything_you_like.zip" and flash with TWRP
Basically Magisk is SuperSU alternative and provides SuperSU service for your device. ( roots it )
No problems for me at this point. Working on 14.5.A.0.270 and can also get working on 14.6.A.0.236 but have other problems related to getting compatible recovery on 236.
Eventually in recovery, system mount and unmount break for me, then other mounts eventually fail after trying to get Nanodroid working (My Goal to UnGoogle my Z1c) and can't wipe format or anything (only way to fix is reflash with flashtool)
Deodexed ROM seems to be necessary for Nanodroid and this is causing additional problems for me.
If I have to run with unlocked bootloader, I think AOSP may be a better starting point.
Dear XDA Community,
I have an Xperia M C1905 and I have checked the service info menu and it shows "Rooting Status: Bootloader unlock allowed:Yes" so I can unlock bootloader but I have heard that unlocking bootloader can cause the phone to bootloop. So I want to know how to unlock the bootloader, root this phone and add a custom recovery. I don't know whether I should take a TA Partition backup or not. I do own an xperia SP which I have but it is broken so the Xperia M C1905 will have to be used for the time being. Can someone from the forum show me the right links for unlocking bootloader, root, custom recovery. A set of instructions to follow since looking at the forum I got no idea which guide to follow for this phone.
Currently this phone requires the bootloader to be unlocked without causing a bootloop to happen.
It is currently running android 4.3 stock - Build Number: 15.4.A.1.9
I'm a noob at this since the last time I unlocked bootloader and added custom rom to the xperia SP was like 4 years ago
First of all you need to root your device, search on google about towelroot app / apk to get su binary.
After you get notifications about your device is rooted, go to playstore and search about SuperSU and install it.
After install, you need to backup your TA warranty to safe your warranty if you want to unlock bootloader, look at this link for how to do it https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
After that, you can unlock your bootloader with this way https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2484622.
After you unlock your bootloader, you maybe get problem with bootloop. You only need to re-flash your firmware (ftf) with flashtool with full wipe data and cache, after flash your device is boot up sucessfully with unlocked bootloader.
for recovery maybe you can use this if you want to work with stock ROM https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2494793 during FOTA recovery can't use on stock ROM you can use that recovery for this section.
That's all i think, if you still need ask just ask it
Hello Nicklas,
I followed your guide by doing step 1 and step 2 and I used root checker to verify root and I now have root on my phone, but it won't allow me to take a backup of the TA Partition on my phone. I now have this issue which prevents me from taking a backup of TA Partition.
Following message from cmd on my computer shows:Waiting for USB Debugging...OK

It is no longer needed as I had to do a software repair via sony companion and followed the steps all over again, it is now working running lineage os rom unofficial android 7.1.2 with Mimori Kernel including TWRP recovery. It is so much better than running stock 4.3 from sony. I still need to find a way to save battery life on this phone, i need a balanced performance with battery life. Does anyone know which rom provides perfomance and battery life? Already tried lineage os, RR Remix Rom, Stryflex Rom, XOSP Rom and Slim 7 or Slim Rom?
