[q] how do i re-enable thermal throttling - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi a couple weeks ago I decided to disable thermal throttling, the phone did get a lot quicker and a lot of the home screen lag had disappeared. However my phone has been overheating even more than it did before I disabled the thermal throttling. Can anyone help give me instructions to re enable thermal throttling??? From what I have seen there's only threads to disable the throttling and none to re enable it. Thanks.

Why not just do the opposite of what's listed here in this thread? I followed the junk in that thread to seemingly disable it. It seems logical that the opposite will enable it. This video led me to that thread.

My SGN seems to have significant problems with 3D graphics performance in games...

Hello,
I am the owner of SGN since september.
I am really disappointed, because there seems to be a problem with 3D graphics performance: and to be precise with its FPS consistence. In some 3D excessive games (GTA in particular, but also Trials Xtreme 3, NFS:MW and other AAA titles) there seems to be a problem: there is a certain interval of time when a game works perfectly, and then for a few seconds it slows down WITHOUT A REASON and then plays good again. This seems to be particulary a problem in GTA games where the game slows down to a mere 4 FPS, and then continues to run flawlessly for 20-30 seconds, then slows down again for a few, and so on.
PLEASE help me xda, you are my only hope. Noone seems to have a clue on what can potentially cause this weird problem.
do you have force gpu rendering turned on? anything running in the background? what about facebook syncing?

First of all, thanks for Your response.
Yes, I did triet turning the force GPU thingy on. Doesn't seem to help.
I think background apps are not an issue since I tested my phone after formatting it and it was clean.
Facebook syncing? What do you mean?
If you use the Facebook app, it might constantly trying to sync. You said you had the same problem on a clean install though so I'm thinking that's not the problem
I bet that the cpu is at 70 C, and the Thermal Throttle enter in function.
I had the same problem with dead trigger (i found that it automaically set up the Tegra effect)

Thanks for the answer!
Yes, the phone do gets quite hot after a while actually!
So is this behaviour normal? And how should I fix this, if it is at all doable?

When the cpu reaches the thermal throttal temperature (about 70°C) it slows the cpu down so that it cools down. When it reaches the 70°C mark again the procedure repeats. So if you would turn thermal throttle off it shouldnt happen again I THINK. But I dont recommend doing that. Stay safe, keep your baby safe (gnex )

Well, I cant find these "power saving" options mentioned in a thread above. Can anyone help me to find them? Are they even present in SGN?
And how can I disable thermal throttling, just for the test?
And thanks for all the help so far!

Heating issues and CPU stuck at 1.57GHz (Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4)

Hey, Folks,
I just bought this tablet, and it is absolutely gorgeous!
The only concern that it HEATS UP sometimes.
My observation is that it heats
when three out of four processor cores (namely cpu 1, 2, 3)
get stuck at an elevated 1.57GHz frequency
(min is 0.3GHz, max is 2.27GHz)
You can see it with 3C toolbox or CPU-Z apps.
These apps report also that the internal temperatures go from 30-ish to 50-ish and even to 60-ish degrees then.
When the processor gets stuck like this, only the reboot can help, nothing else I tried can kick the process out of this stuck state..
I imagine the processor eats also quite a lot of battery then..
Do you think it is something that can be helped with by ROOTING the tablet?
(I've updated to 4.4.2)
Or it looks more like a hardware issue and I need to exchange the tablet?
Appreciate your suggestions..
P.S. Also would be curious to know if anyone else has the processor stuck like described above and what are the temperatures reported by 3X toolbox or CPU-Z...
Mine did that too the first some days then it got better. Wait about a week and if it keeps happening DM(Private) message me or post another thread

Thank you! Mine started to behave too. I do not see any overheating due to the CPU stuck.
In the mean time I learned that this "stuck CPU" problem seem to be common for Tab Pro,
but nobody cares, so perhaps it is not too serious..
Yeah it's still a problem and a battery drainer too , but you can replace the mpdecision binary with one that works (root only) and it will solve the issue, still sucks Samsung doesn't fix it, hopefully when/if they release lollipop all these issues will be solved.
can get the CM mpdecision here

Thank you, just rooted and replaced mpdecision as per instructions in your link,
will see how it behaves now... so far so good.

Fascinating, I have noticed random battery drain on the gtp8.4. Possibly the reason I noticed it randomly is that I restart the tab now and then after updating hosts file, and that gets done whenever there are updates, not on regular schedule.
Thanks!

Little cores running at 1440 all the time

Hey guys, need some help. I have an AT&T H810 rooted 10o. My little cores seem to be running full out at 1440mhz even though my governor is set to Interactive. This is causing it to heat up incredible, to 70c+, and is draining the battery quickly. It seems to have only started occurring in the last few days! I can run it in powersave governor which fixes it to 384mhz, and it fixes the problem, but I don't understand why it is running at full speed under interactive now. The big cores do NOT have this problem AT ALL.
I've removed any apps I installed during that time, cleared my phones cache, cleared the memory, I have tried running it in airplane mode, I've looked into what apps were running and it seems to be very few. Turned location off. I've tried freezing the play services because I have been getting a very intermittent force close. I have also tried to disable all xposed modules, and used avg to scan for any malware. Possibly init.d? Possibly the new xposed v79? I'm at a loss as to what is causing this!
Does anyone have any other ideas as to what could be happening?
There's always the good old factory reset if everything else fails.
Just asking the obvious but there is no offending wakelocks or anything that sticks out in the battery usage stats?

Battery usage Android OS is highest at 33, followed by screen at 16%.
Wakelocks, I seem to have them under control with amplify, and I don't see any new ones.
Question about factory reset, I am not near a pc for the next few days, will it cause any problems with xposed or my rooted system image, and basically what can I expect with it? I came from a M8 where with custom recovery I was pretty fearless with being to wipe and refresh, can't do that here.
Noticed that disabling 2 of the little cores with kernel auditor really helps with the heat buildup of the phone with not much slowdown

Doesn't solve why it's running at full speed, but I'll keep that in mind.

Personally I never done a factory reset myself yet so i cannot comment.
For the most part it does look like you have something to work with seeing Android OS is taking up the most battery. The hard part is tracking down which process. I'm not the best at this so maybe someone else can chime in. Try taking a look at your currently running processes and see if there's anything odd
Well, after a few factory resets which did not affect xposed, I was able to resolve it to where the cores now return to 384mhz idle. It was something that was installed, and it took 3 or 4 resets after restoring my app backups, and I'm still not sure which app was the culprit. I'm possibly wondering if it was the Amplify module
Sorry for bumping this. I just suffered from this problem and it seems for me it was antutu. For some reasons it was running the background keeping the 4 small cores at 1,2-1,4 cuz constantly. I stopped it and now it's back to normal. Just wondering why it started itself in the first place.

HTC pnp manager causing 2 cores to not work properly

I've never really been active in these forums, but I read them plenty and usually find fixes to all my problems and answers to all my questions. This one has eluded me however. Here's how it is:
I rooted my phone many months ago and I don't remember exactly how I did it. I installed busybox and xposed and have been using my phone without tweaking it for a while. So now that I have time and the interest, I decided to do something about the very hot device in my hands. That's besides the point, although some of it may have something to do with the problem. Anyway, it turns out that even when all cores are active the last 2 cores in the big cluster remain unused, they bear no cpu load as reported by Kernel Auditor. It's quite annoying as I feel like the extra strain on the other cores is causing the heat curve to be a bit steeper than it should be, since the inactive cores are still generating heat with them being on and ramping up in operating frequency. Let alone, not getting the full value of performance out of this phone.
I've tried doing a full wipe to see if that fixed it, it didn't. I tried a custom rom and kernel and it still hasn't been fixed. Has anyone else had a problem like this?
tl;dr - the last 2 big cores are online but do not process anything
*UPDATE*
So it turns out that the problem was HTC pnp manager. Not sure why, but after I turned it off, all the cores were working properly. After turning it back on the cores stopped working again. I'm going to try switching to the default thermal_engine.conf file.
**UPDATE**
The default thermal_engine conf file did not fix the problem. I can only speculate that either something is wrong with pnp manager, or something is wrong with the hardware. I would like to find a way to fix this. I can manage without pnp manager, however, without pnp manager I have to run user apps, scripts, etc. to accomplish the same thing as pnp manager which could increase cpu usage and potentially cause slightly more heat and quicker battery drain. If I can use pnp manager and maintain use of all cores, I would prefer to do so. I'll take any suggestions, if you want to help but need more info I'd be happy to give more.
@ironman120693
How did you disable pnp manager?????
My phone doesn't have a custom kernel so is there any other way to disable it?????

high temp prop and thermal mitigation

Please can someone tell me the default value?
Are they both disables or enabled?

I believe enabled. But it gives major lag and screen dimming
It is overheating and make screen ghosting

Oh. Well then this is for you. It should be turned on by default. If you havent messed with it. It should be on. But. I would be trying to figure out why its overheating.
I know some people have the issue. But both of my g5s never did. The screens still ghost a little.
Are you doing massive gaming or videos a lot? Thats about the only times mine gets hot. Have you tried to no root disable as much as u can thats not needed in bloatware and system apps?
Face book youtube are batt hogs and stress the system.
Look in battery stats and see whats using most of the system. Other than Screen, android os, cell stand by are ok. Its other apps you are looking for. But not to see whats using the battery but bassicly running more than others.
You can try wakelock detector. Still works without root
