Impressed with battery life - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

I have been impressed with the battery on this phone the last few days. Now that Im up and running with all my apps I gave it some good tests the other day.
On my note 3, while driving with nav and music streaming from google, I would lose about 8-10% an hour.
This weekend I did about 5 hours of total driving, with nav and music on the whole time. With a few phone calls, by the end the of the day, I was still at 46%.
Last night I tested just music. I had a 2 hour round trip. (Hour there, hour back, all highway and the same route, so cell signal would be the same)
Driving down, I started at 80℅ and arrived with 76℅. No music was playing. Phone was ideling.
On my drive back, I started at 75% and ended with 71℅. Music streaming from google the whole time.
I will be testing more, but that is pretty damn impressive in my book.
I will post my settings and turned off apps list later.
Attached is a screen shot of battery use from this weekends driving.

I agree completely. I didn't have the note 3 but I did have the note 2 and this battery dominated it. And the Fast Charge is amazing 50%in 30 mins. WOW

Extremely satisfied as well. Even with such a powerful display and CPU/GPU this phone still manages to maintain some of the best battery life I've seen in years. Samsung really poured there hearts into this device.

As am I
I am VERY impressed and HAPPY. Coming from an S3 that would be at 50% by the time I got to my office at 9:30am. Granted I am up early and our work starts the same. I am handling everything first thing before my trek in. Anyway, yesterday I awoke to a full battery and decided to try it out. GPS, calls, email, normal business day type stuff. I had 12% left by the time I fell asleep. NIIIICE

Its 2:20pm here and I'm at 62%. My Note 3 would be about 30-40% at this point.

It seems the more I use the phone, the better battery life gets... The only time I have seen a considerable drain is when the screen is above 40-50%.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA Free mobile app

I'm not that impressed. Don't get me wrong, it's way better than the 4 hours I got on my S4, but I am a seriously heavy user, and I only get about 9 hours before I need to charge. It's largely because my brightness is at 100% but I expected a full day of usage between charges lol

I agree. The more I use the Note 4 the better the battery life "seems" to get. I don't know if it's just settling down or what but it does seem to have improved over the last couple of days.

Impressive battery life

I have been very impressed with the battery life I've been getting on my Nexus. the talk time has been much higher than any phone I've owned. Here are a few screenshots of my battery life. These two days are pretty much my normal day (lol yeah I talk a lot on the phone).
The first post will be the day that about 50% of the time I was on wifi.
The 2nd post will be screenshots from a day of being connected to hsdpa for the entire day (no wifi at all).
My setup: I use push email, facebook sync, auto brightness, gps on, bluetooth on.
Also, when the phone first came I charged it completely then ran the battery down until the phone shut off. I then charged it completely without removing it from the charger.
Below is the day where I was connected to wifi about half the time:
These screenshots show the next day where I used no wifi at all and was connected to hsdpa the entire time.
I have had mine for 2 days, and I have to say it seems to have pretty good life as well, compared to my Atrix and Note. After reading about all the gripes here,
I was expecting the worst. This battery will more than get me through everything I need to do with it in my day, but I suppose it all depends on what you do with the phone.

Coming from a G2x with a terrible 10 hour battery life, anything I get out of this is freaking fantastic compared to it! I Just wish the devs start getting out some UVed kernels so I can make it longer through the day! I consider myself a heavy user/texter (girlfriend ) and so I'd like to get through the whole day (~18 hours) without a charge I must say, I got to 16 hours yesterday and I was really pleased with that, never had a stock rom last so long without any tweeks!

Not to shabby haha

mysterioustko: I think you're usage is a bit different to the average user. With all that talk time you're using the screen a lot less. It seems the screen sucks a lot of power, and if you're not using it often a full charge lasts 4 to 6 hours longer.

I typically average between 1-2 hours of screen time on an average day. But I talk A LOT each day lol. I'm impressed with the talk time because I've yet to see a phone besides this one that can go 6 hours of talk time in the real world when connected to hsdpa. Also, if you think about it, 1.5 hours of screen time is decent use. It's not a massive amount of use, but it's definitely not like it's getting no use. All in all I have been pleased with the battery life.
I don't know about you guys but im very disappointed in the battery life. With wifi turned on the entire day and no calls, just browsing and chatting on google talk, i got 3 hours 54 mins of screen on time before the phone reached 12% battery. I think thstss pretty horrendous. I was hoping for 7 hours or something of on screen time. My galaxy tab 10.1 has spoiled me i guess. Illl live with it because theres no other android phone im aware of that will give me more, but im kinda bummed about it.
My iPhone 4 has insane battery life... I cant imagine having less. Hopefully they sell larger batteries + backplates for the Galaxy Nexus?

Same here tbh. And the really frustrating part is, I only have 2G where I live so I was hoping to see really great battery life. Hasn't been the case so far though.
However having said that, just last night I flashed XXIK6 and while it's still very early to say for sure, it "appears" that battery life has significantly improved for me. Currently sitting on 91% after 3.5 hours with very, very light usage, IE: 15-20 mins screen on, 15 min phone calls, etc. Nothing to write home about sure, but way way better than before. It would normally be around 80% by now.
It's really sad when the very first thing you do after unlocking your phone is to go into setting to check your battery. Wish I could stop obsessing and enjoy this marvelous device without having to worry about it.
What did you guys do after getting the phone.
Did you charge it all the way to full before use, use and charge at the same time, or let it discharge all the way and then charge it to full?
Thanks.
I would have to say that the GN has the best battery life of any of my previous android phones. (G1, N1, Sensation) These things are very subjective though.

Yeah, and I don't want to lose the thinness of this gorgeous phone with an extended battery, but 4 hours of screen on time? Anyways, can you let us know how that radio works out, I'm not expecting much, but still curious. If it is noticeably better, I will try to unlock+root this phone. I'm just a little scared to brick this 700$ device.
I'm just waiting for mod of web browser that will invert colours. Black backgrounds and white text ...that would extend battery life significantly. I swapped colours on xda app and pulse reader only browser left ha ha

Yup, it's under accessibility in browser settings. Great if you read mainly text-only sites since it inverts image colours as well
2-3% per hour idle
I did a benchmark this afternoon for about 8 hours.
ITL41F rom, rooted + dcm kernel, otherwise stock. bluetooth, HSDPA, 1 gmail sync, and a few background sync that is very light.
idle the phone in home for 8 hours. the battery drops about 2-2.5% per hour consistently.
how long does it last with 'constant use' though?... from fully charged, to then having the screen on the whole time & doing web browsing, video watching, downloading, etc... (with data on, not wifi)

6 hours and I have 66 percent remaining, light usage.
Placebo effects are interesting.
I bought the extended battery, and placed the old one on my desk. After charging it up I noticed a decent gain in battery life. The next day, bored I picked up the old battery laying on my desk and noticed it was 2100mah according to the sticker. Confused I was like "woooah my phone must had come with an extended battery" then I decided to check what my phone had in it....1850mah *head slap* somehowI mixed them up when I installed it.../sigh
Good standby time (gotten up to 18 hours with light use), but about 3 hours screen on time. Disappointed.
7hours and im at 55% power... right on track for my average usage between 12-14 hours per charge
The unit does not charge. In the beginning before the issue with it dying after the first two seconds began it wouldn’t charge unless it was turned off. There are cases opened about both of these issues on the android website and the only problem is I can’t try any of these solutions because the phone won’t even boot up. Not even into fastboot mode. I tried charging all night and it still will not go past the colorful boot screen sequence and sometimes I can’t even get it to turn on to say Google. And when it does turn on, it only stays on for 2 seconds and then it just dies. That’s the reason why it won’t let me flash the factory images. I tried the USB charging unit that came with the phone on my international Samsung galaxy s2 and it charged just fine.
Anyone have any ideas?
after about 8 hours i burned thru 60% of my battery. meaning I had 40% left over. I would say this is with moderate to heavy use. downloading/updating apps, surfing the web, going on facebook, texting, emails. etc.
Today i had almost 8.5 hrs off battery and just under 3 hrs display time with 39% which is about par for me. I don't have any sync on but i check my mail constantly, check xda, read news and surf the web and occasionally light gaming but not today. At lunch i'm on it about 40 mins on average. And i have spotty signal throughout the day, especially during lunch. It really boils down to realistic expectations and actual usage. A lot of peeps that compare to me wonder why their battery is so terrible but i don't have anything serious going on when i'm not actually using the phone. I don't do social networking. I don't have my phone constantly polling for data on top of the constant polling for signal on top of the constantly checking my battery stats wondering why I'm not getting 6 hours display time. I think some of the battery rage is wasted on that alone. Motorola Droid phones have historically done well on battery because Motorola's usually have great radios on top of the usually great reception Verizon brings. Also, we demand much of our phones, a lot more than last year and the year before. Faster data speeds demand more juice also. Verizon 3g is slow in comparison to T-Mobile/atnt hspa but better efficiency, better architecture and smaller chip sets have helped cancel out a lot of that on hspa radios Lte is still early generation tech and those speeds are ludicrous for a mobile device yet some Verizon folks wonder why they cant pull down 4 hours display time much less 3 when hspa is far more efficient and adequate for the time being. If Verizon wasn't so crooked i more than likely would be an lte nexus owner. I think more people really need to consider what light, moderate and heavy usage really is. Today was realistically heavy moderate use for me. A heavy day for me is tanking the battery in less than 10 hours with 4 hours display. Some of you are light users but your phone is working while you are actually working and you only get 2 hours display time because you had to have your phone tell you bobby cussed out his boss today because of no Xmas bonus, sally cheated on bobby, and bobby is getting sloshed tonight all waiting for you as soon as you pick up your phone and while you're catching up with the on demand soap opera your phone is downloading all your emails in the background. And while it is doing all this your phone is heating up and making electrons have more resistance in the circuitry. The cooler your phone is the less demanding it is on the amperage. Anyways, hopefully this weekend i will get to see if the screen can 5-6 hours display on wifi on one charge. With hspa on.
Crazy world, ay?
14 hours 7 min. Light usage, only one hour on wifi... 57%.. So ya, battery life is just fine

Sprint Note 2 battery is a beast!

I put around 6-7 hours of screen time yesterday and still had battery left. Also it looks like the radios they are using are very efficient with very little battery drain.
Nothing scientific to report, but this morning I've used 3 hours of screen time and still have 66% battery left.
Love it!
I am happy to report similar findings. 4 hours screen time and im at 30% battery with 20 hours without a charge.
I don't know why but the radio's are definitely doing better than my S3. I'm picking up Lte more often and its not jumping back and fourth either. So far showing the same as far as battery, maybe even better.

So far I'm at 1 day 6 hours, (2 hours screen on) and I'm down to 56%. I'm really impressed, and this offsets the sourness I feel with the crippled SIM/wireless charging. Heck, who needs to even charge this thing with battery life like that!?
What really impresses me is the fact that I've been out several times today - yet the battery graph is perfectly steady. Whereas every other phone I've had immediately starts plummeting when I'm on the go and it has to switch towers, etc. I can always take one look at a graph or SystemPanel and know exactly when I was out, but not with this phone. :good:
Samsung really must have done something good with the radio in this thing.

On wifi quite a bit of the time, but still very happy with the battery. Includes gmail email sync, default mail client syncing an imap account every 15 minutes, about 2 hours of podcasts and music, 20 minutes of voice calls, and other misc stuff. No video.
I picked up my Note 2 on Friday, and charged it that night. Saturday morning at 10:00am I disconnected it. I have turned off wifi and SCO so it was running on 3g all day, I decided to not charge it Saturday night to test the battery to see how long I could go without charging. I went a full 48 hours on one charge and still had 11% at 10:00am on Monday. I didn't have heavy use on it, but spent a couple hours browsing the internet and Facebook, as well as 2 hours of Draw Something off an on. Very impressed. I didn't think to take any screenshots, sorry.

[Q] Battery Life

I'm a bit confused here and hope someone can clear it up for me. Some of the reviews are saying the battery life is under eight hours. However the review from Androidpolice is saying he got 22hrs heavy use and with normal use it could be almost 2 days. Can someone tell me what the battery life is really like?
I suspect the shorter times are referring to performance in a battery run down test where a HD video is put on a loop and played until the device dies.
I have only had mine for 2 days and this is not normal use because of downloads etc... but I believe I'm getting 8-10 hours out of the 2014 edition where I was getting 6-8 hours out of last years Note 10.1. I still have last years model as it is going to ebay soon so I know there is an improvement!
I'm hoping it lasts 9-10 hours at least. Coming from an iPad, I have a feeling the battery life will be one of the worst things about android for me.
I'm getting around 8h. battery life
really enough juice for me
Hello, i am a engineering student and i am very happy about my Battery life.
I Use my P-605 to take notes in the university.
For example, on a day with three lectures.
First Lecture, i use LectureNotes to mark something in the PDF scriptum and write down a few notes.
Second and third, creating a whole Entry which causes that the screen is nearly 95% of the 1,5h Lecture active.
After that, driving home with the bus with listening to music and checking facebook and xda.
The Energy saver made was enabled (because it was implemented for Such reasons) and screen on Auto (+0, +1).
After that day, 70%, not bad, or not?
I used some of the tricks mentioned here in an xda threat to increase the Batterytime.

That's about what I get of screen on time.
At this exact moment I'm on pace for about 9 and a half hours with 2 days on time
Sent from my SM-P600 using Tapatalk 4
8-9 hours screen time is what mine gets. This is with a 1 minute time out and 20% brightness. If you use the default 30 second time out and auto brightness, you may be able to squeeze out another hour or so.
Go by screen time and not total uptime. One person's "heavy use" is someone else's "casual". I'll use the Note for 5 or 6 hours straight. That will get me down to 30% or thereabouts. As such, I'll never get 2 days out of it or an iPad.
Playing any type of game, even ones that aren't graphically demanding like clash of clans or plants vs zombies 2 drains the battery very very fast, i could lose 50% in 2-3 hours.
Just about hitting 8 with all the extras disabled and just browsing the web and youtube

I can get as much as 10+ screen on time with my Note 3 though 8-9 hours is more normal. That's with -5-6 or so hours of SlingBox/Netflix/HBO GO/YouTube streaming with Web, Note taking and email all day. I've watched whole NFL games with my SlingBox in HD with 40% brightness and still had 55-60% battery left to give you an idea. I run my Note 3 with 25% or so brightness most of the time unless I'm streaming video content. I'm not into a gaming much on my phone though. I don't want the burn in with Amoled displays so I keep my screen low unless i need it up.
I don't know a lot about the G2 but the Note 3 is a beat with battery life. The SS is from a few days ago with 4 episodes of Breaking bad and an hour of the Super Bowl streaming with my SlingBox. Damn GF hauled my ass out of the house for an hour during the SB. That's 5+ hours and still 47% battery left.
Stock battery life = anywhere from a day and a half with 12-16 screen on hours to a full days use with 8-12 hours screen on.
Zero lemon im getting up to 5-6 days with at least 24hrs screen on time but have seen 36hrs screen on before, minimum battery life i have gotten was a solid 48 hrs with heavy use and 26-32 hrs screen on.

Been getting roughly 8 hours screen-on time before hitting that 15% battery remaining notification.

I'm not familiar with the real-world performance of the G2 battery. But I must say that, by far, the Note3 has the best battery performance out of any smart phone I've ever owned. (Which isn't saying much cuz I can say that about every smart phone I owned compared to the previous phone) I just use it as much as I want. I don't even worry about it anymore.
I've even gotten crazy and started underclocking to 960mhz with conservative governor. Keep your screen around 40-50% and (so long as you aren't in a very low signal on all protocols area) it barely drains and I barely notice even the slightest hit to performance. (...and I am picky as hell about stuff like that. 30fps drives me crazy, I can detect latency in the 10-20ms range...it's a curse really). I just get a clump of lag every now and then. For 2 days off charge? I'll take it.
I don't keep track of screen on time...yet. I guess I should do that one of these days. But I take my phone off the charger at 6:30am and usually plug it in again around 12:30am or so...I'm usually around 35%, give or take 10% depending on if it was a heavy or light use day.
Sorry I can't answer your direct comparison question. I can't imagine a phone having better battery life stock (even if I didn't underclock)...but from what I've read in this thread the G2 is the one to beat. It seems as though they are at least comparable within a reasonable margin of error.
I've not had the G2 but from what I've been reading if they are fairly comparable with the GS with a 5.2" display and 3500mah battery and the Note 3 has a 5.7" display with a 3200mah battery I would have to look at the OS optimizations as being better maybe with the Note 3. Plus you do get the Spen and 3GB of RAM instead of 2GB of Ram with the G2
Note 3 Battery life is amazing and even better if you get the Zerolemon extended battery (completely overkill btw)
