[Q] Merge Internal and virtual SD storage into one partition. - HTC One X

I have a HTC One X International Edition, it's rooted and has the latest ClockworkMod recovery version 6 installed.
One of the biggest drawbacks of this phone is running out of internal memory for apps despite having 32gb of storage, this is due to the way it's partitioned with a virtual SD card.
Is there a way to re-partition the internal memory so all 32gb shows as internal memory?

I don't know whether you can, and I probably wouldn't risk it. Just use an app like Link2SD, and set it to move apps automatically to the SD card after you install them.

[Q] Use SD Card as Internal Memory

I use the search system and have tried this solution, but it didn't work. I have a 4 GB SD card and I am running Jankarutu's XE ROM and I would like to be able to partition the SD card equally so I can put 2 GB on my internal memory and use the other 2 GB for storage. Can someone please help me out? I only have 30 MB left, and that's after using Link2SD and linking all my apps.
hello .. have you changed your kernel? if I'm not mistaken you need a compatible kernel ..... I have done my personal rom with sd of course support system .. a factory reset wipe, wipe a Dalvik, and then wipe cache .. I install the custom ROM, I did another wipe and wipe Dalvik cache without restarting I flash the kernel and it's good I have 130 MB of free once a reboot is but I use it just may be a2sdgui of ..
the swap would not apparently enough relative to the wear on the SD card to be seen as
Thanks for the reply. I actually found a different guide that tells you how to trick your phone into thinking the external is really internal memory by replacing the void.fstab file? in the /system/etc directory and it worked. I am going to buy a 32 gb card and do it

can you please share the thread were you find the tutorial.
Thank you in advance.
Is there any reason why link2sd is not workable on s-on device? Is it a ROM problem or is it a security r/w problem?
If it is ROM problem, is it possible to modified the official ROM a little bit so as it could support link2sd whilst still be flashed via Official RUU?
Can't be done with S-ON. You need S-OFF, root, and a custom ROM that supports it.
By default the XE rom has data2sd script built in. You have to partition half of your SD card as ext 4, then wipe your caches and you should boot with 2 gb internal memory...however I think that is the maximum amount capable on this rom.
Props to Jikantaru, alquez, methadron, and to all the other up and coming chefs, you guys made this phone pimp!

It is. I tried partitioning 9 GB and it got stuck on the HTC boot-loop. Going to try an unlimited memory ROM and see if it works If not, I'm perfectly fine with 2 GB of internal memory, but would be nice to get least 8 or 9 as I bought a 16 GB card for that purpose
Also, to the user asking for the tutorial, here is the link
Someone swapped the internal memory of their Galaxy with their sd card:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088474
Is this possible with the WFS? The Galaxy has two internal memory partitions: an internal phone memory and an internal "sd" memory. The hack worked bc they were able to swap the internal sd memory with external sd memory.
Is the internal memory of the WFS partitioned like this? Will this trick work? I'm really in need of more memory, even with link2sd. I can't use jikantura's rom bc I have a cdma phone...

One thing you can do is with Titanium backup pro, melt some of the bloatware out of the system/apps area and integrate sys d-cache files into the ROM.
With the stock 2.35 I was able to free up 35 MB of ROM memory and integrate 24 MB of sys d-cache into the rom. Along with integrating updates for facebook, maps etc, I am running with over 400 mb of programs on the Ext2 partition and all their data internal with 65 mb internal still free for data and quickstart apps.
Worth a shot.

Internal Storage

This is my first Android Phone without an SD card slot (Had Samsung Galaxy, Thunderbolt and Bionic before). Trying to understand. Is the Internal Storage a physical storage medium like you find in the iPhone or is it an internal SD card? Some people talk about virtual SD drive and partitioning. Am I able to partition the internal storage so that part of it will work like an external SD card and does not get erased with ROM upgrades? Thanks

the internal memory is a nand chip, it's much better than having a microsd card like the HD7 and mozart, as it runs much faster, and less error.
but not too sure about partitioning it, as you only get about just over 13GB users memory.

Anyone having issues with running out of Memory?

I had an LG G Pad (got stolen this weekend, GRRR) so I am shopping for my next tablet. my one issue is the 16GB of memory, is it enough, or is apps to SD available on this now? I was running out of space on the g pad even putting what (little) I could on my sd card. Thanks

I have the SM-T325 16gb internal with 64gb microsd card. No issue with sufficiency of internal storage. The OS needed only 3.98gb, my apps totaling 90 used only 2.32 gb and I still have available space of 10.26gb, plus of course the external storage. To top it all, you can move the apps to the external microsd card; it is a built-in capability without requiring the app2sd app.

Thank you very much, great information.
Its a very subjective question. It depends on what you need to put on the tablet storage, and if you can put media, etc. on the removable SD card. If you can put stuff on an SD, just buy a 32 or 64 GB one, and you're good to go.
I personally agree that 16 GB is bit low for devices nowadays. 32 GB would have been great. But the Tab Pro 8.4 (WiFi) was what I wanted, and is only available with 16 GB, far as I can tell. I use it with a 32 GB SD, and its workable.
It has the inherent issue of having 2 external storage. The primary being a partitioned storage in the internal memory which is part of the 16GB of the device. Any app you move to SD would move it to that storage thereby using up the internal 16GB storage of the device. So far I have not found a way to move the app to the real external storage, the removable SD card.
With that being said, installing games that are huge would eat up your 16GB device storage.
Rooted?
If you're rooted, there are many ways to move "apps" (or rather, apps data) to the SD card.
The one I use is FolderMount, available in the play store. It allows to mount a folder from your internal storage to the SD card, so everything happens for the system as if it was internal storage, but the files are saved to the SD card. I do that for my OBB folder (Android / obb) which contains around 20GB of games data currently... And still have 10GB left on my internal storage because of that.

I was trying to avoid root but it seems there's no choice in this case.
One question though before I take the plunge and root, there's another folder under the Android folder called data, should I mount that as well?

switch internal/external memory card

Is there a rom or mod that would let me swith the internal/external memory so that my 64gb sd card would show as internal memory and the 16gb intenal memory would show as external sd card? Install a couple of larger games and I'm full.
Thanks.
No, not only that it would require a rooted device.
If you're already prepared to root your device there are already solutions to the problem. Link2sd pro and folder mount can both fulfill your need.

SD card as internal storage but can't install on it

I have a HTC one m8, not rooted, Android 6.0 and set my SD card as internal storage but when I want to install apps from the play store I keep getting the message about not having enough memory but the SD has 32gigs free space.
How can I get the apps to install normally? I also can't move any app to the SD card.
