[Q] Flash non-LTE image onto LTE Nexus? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Is this possible? Would it just take away LTE capabilities? I'd be willing to sacrifice them for a bit to get some lollipop final build goodness.

Perfectly fine. I plan on doing the same thing.

Its not working on LTE have you been able to flash the FLO image on DEB?
I get the following error if I remove the WIPE option in fastboot.
Device product is 'deb'.
Update requires 'flo'.

Is there any update on this?
I accidentally got a DEB when I ordered a FLO- since I don't ever plan on putting in an LTE SIM, if it's possible to use FLO roms I'd much rather do that. Thanks

Anyone?

More to the OP, I'd never do this even if it worked. Mobile data in a device bought for just that is more useful than this update.

[Q] Flash razorg with razor 5.0.2 image?

Since I'm not using LTE, is it possible to use something like NRT to flash the non-LTE image on an LTE device, making it 5.0.2 ?
Has anoyone tried this?
And about reverting with success? Can NRT, by flashing only system image, brick a Nexus 7 2013 or is it always safe?
My SIM slot recently died and I have the same question. Rather not have to keep putting the device into airplane mode to avoid LTE seeking.

[Q] Verizon OTA question

I bought a refurb N7 from Groupon months ago. They stated it was a verizon unit and it came in a verizon box. They stated that only a verizon sim would work with it anything else would only achieve 3g speeds. I bought it anyway to try with my grandfathered unlimited At&T sim and it's been working fine with LTE. However it is still running 4.4.2. and every time I check for updates it states I'm completely up to date. I've never had an update since owning it, about 6 months. I had read somewhere that the Verizon N7 will not receieve an OTA unless it has a Verizon sim in it. Does anyone know if this is true? Or is it common for people to still be running 4.4.2 and I shold see lollipoop soon? Also when it boots up, there is a unlocked padlock icon which I believe means unlocked bootloader, it came like this. Would that affect any OTA updates? Thanks
Don't quote me on this and double check, but I'm pretty sure the nexus toolkit has a option for the lte version.
What happens when your nexus is powered off and you long press volume down and power, then use volume rocker to select recovery, then power to select? If it reboots then you don't have CWM or TWRP. If it takes you to TWRP or CWM then ur already unlocked with a custom recovery.
If you aren't unlocked you'll have to wipe you're entire tablet to unlock it. The toolkit is really easy. It let's you install the drivers for your pc. Then you can download and install the latest firmware available.
I bet you anything Groupon used some weird system to mass wipe their tabs. And something in that prevents it updating. My friend that got samsung galaxy gear live smartwatches had the exact same problem.
Just search around and you should find your answer. Let me know if you need help with the nexus toolkit.
And if u are anti tinkering, u could also relock the bootloader after getting it current. Then u will definitely get updates.

Possible to flash sm-p600 rom onto sm-p605v?

So, I ordered a refurb sm-p600 Wifi-only tablet from Amazon, but I received a Verizon sm-p605v. Now they show out of stock on the Wifi model. Am trying to arrange a swap, but don't know how successful I'll be.
It's my first tablet and I absolutely LOVE it and don't want to give it up.
So, it's basically the same thing, but there are issues:
1.) Has Verizon junk all over it.
2.) Complains about no SIM card - if I put in a SIM card it complains about activation. (These don't appear to ever go away)
3.) Have to keep it in airplane mode or it will drain the battery trying to connect, if I keep it in airplane mode, at least one app (Accuweather) complains about no network
4.) And this is the biggest issue - can't check for new updates - I really want Lollipop so it matches my phone, but it basically says update is unavailable. I assume Verizon has it set up so that you have to pull updates only from them.
I'm never going to put this on a mobile plan and I'd really prefer to have the non Verizon tablet, but if I can't, is it possible to flash the stock wi-fi sm-p600 firmware onto this so that it thinks it's a sm-p600 - or is this a recipe for brick making?
I also haven't been able to find a sm-p605v lollipop image, so I may be out of luck assuming the answer is no.
I'm in a similar situation. I purchased what I thought was a SM-P605 (international version) and I got shipped a SM-P605V (Verizon edition). In my case, the vendor listed the device as an SM-605, but it was an SM-P605V. Further down in the listing it listed it as a Verizon edition, so that's the reason they declined the return.
Unfortunately, you cannot use SM-P600 firmware, as it is a different processor.
There is a way to update it to 5.1.1 though. When plugging the tablet into the PC, there is a Verizon utility for Windows on the tablet that lets you update the software. (it's based on Samsung Kies). I just did it yesterday. Works fine. I'm trying to figure out if I can put a non-Verizon factory Samsung image on it so I can at least have the option to put my own custom image on it (the Verizon edition has a locked bootloader, which prevents you from putting non-Samsung ROM images).
I personally am sick of vendors customization of Android to the point where it is not recognizable. Give us the option for stock Android...
After 3 attempts I finally got them to send me the correct Wifi only model, which works great!

Can you install Lineage OS on Samsung Note 2 Verizon (SCH-I605)?

I'm planning on running Lineage OS. I was wondering if I can load Lineage OS on my Note 2 device. I would hopefully like Mobile Services like LTE and calling/texting to work, wifi too. Help please!
You should make a TWRP backup and try the build for t0lte.
If it doesn't work then restore your backup.

Thanks! But you know... I'm a little bit new to this. What is t0lte mean and would verizon work with this (LTE and WIFI and also texting and calling.
Why I'm new is because I used to hack around with my old kindle tablet and I just got my first android phone (used to have an iPhone 6). So I check the lineage OS website and I didn't see one for SCH-I605, so I thought there would be no options. But thanks!

The galaxy note 2 has a few versions, the two biggest are the international version (t03g/GT-N7100; doesn't support LTE ), (t0lte/GT-N7105; supports LTE). I personally don't suggest you install lineage for t0lte but you could try and give it a shot. it has been known that kernels for the n7105 can work on the i605 so I don't see why a rom wouldn't be able to work since the differences between the devices are minimal. I doubt you will be able to install it though since there should be a device check within the updater script that prevents you from installing the ROM but you can look it up on how to remove this checking if you REALLY want to install it. Be careful if you flash the rom, make sure you do a TWRP backup of the system and data to be on the safe side.
Regards
EDIT: There seems to be a few people who has had some success when installing lineage t0lte for the i605. I still advise against it but at least now you know that it may work for you.

Thanks for that, now I understand! I've been stuck on one route for the past while though. Since the I605 uses Verizon which has a locked down boot loader... I've been trying to run Suck It Verizon and No You Verizon. Im kind of worried if I will get soft bricked, which is fine because I can flash stock recovery, but if I get hard bricked, I'm screwed for sure. So I've been trying to load a android 4.1 or 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 stock rom but I can't seem to do that because I run 4.4.2, as of that I already have No you Verizon (Android File Host has working downloads for it right now). If you know what I mean, have you gone through this trouble before (or parts of it?), because I am in horrible pain lol.
No joy on the t0lte LineageOS. It fails the device check.

Not getting OTA updates from my carrier (Mint), I suspect because of a possible misconfiguration. Any ideas on how to fix?

Hey guys! I have an LG G8 Thinq (LM-G820UM), stock OS, no root. I use Mint Mobile in the US.
I configured the APN settings according to Mint's website and I can call, send SMS/MMS, and get internet access just fine. But, I can't seem to use WiFi calling (though it's enabled on my Mint account) and I have not received a software update since March of 2021.
It says I am on the latest software version, but I have Android 10, and I've heard other Mint users are on 11 or even 12 with the same phone.
What can you recommend for me to make this work? I'd prefer not to root, but I am willing to. Can anyone ELI5 or link me a guide to fix this?
Thank you!

Well first, Mint is not a carrier, they are an MVNO. They 'resell' T-Mobile network. So, it's not Mint that would update the OS, it would be whatever OS was originally (or rather currently) on the device.
So Mint doesn't care what OS variant you're using (Sprint, VZW, ATT, etc), but that' doesn't mean all the features will work (like vowifi).
I use Mint and have found that crossflashing my Sprint device to the latest US Open OS version (a11), everything will work; VoLTE, VoWifi, data, sms/mms, etc.
Mostly, the only way you would see an OTA update is if you are using the correct OS and that carriers network. That's not completely accurate though, some carriers will send an update over wifi without a (usually needed) carrier specific sim card, but that's hit or miss, no guarantees (I've had a Sprint phone that did it, but ATT is known to never do it).
You don't have to root to crossflash. But it's a real good idea to back up your entire rom before doing anything, or at the very least the essential partitions that are specific to your phone.
cheers

Thanks so much for the explanation and the advice! I will begin researching crossflashing, pretty sure I've seen a couple of detailed posts here about it.
Is there a method to backup my ROM without root? I'm familiar with the process with TWRP installed, but not sure how to do it without. Would it be easier to just unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP + Magisk, backup, and then crossflash, rather than do it all without root?
Also, were you able to get an OTA update from Mint/T-Mobile once you crossflashed to the US Open OS version? Or would I have to flash an Android 12 ROM to upgrade?
Thanks again for the help, apologies for my newbieness. Just trying to get all my ducks in a row before I get hasty and brick my phone. lol

No worries, all good questions and not that easy to find the answers.
The best back-up method, imho, is to use the bkerler edl utilities (g search that, you'll find the github page).
Using twrp, what you can backup will be limited, but you can use dd commands to backup via twrp adb interface, but that's very time consuming.
I've never gotten an OTA update on LG phone if not running their specific OS, and not rooted or crossflashed to it. But, no big deal as pretty much now, there are no updates. Only the available KDZ and after flashing / xflashing to one of them, there won't be updates to it.
At this time, LG has not released any a12 roms, afaik. There are supposedly 'plans' to do so, but I'd bet it never happens.
cheers
