Can you install Lineage OS on Samsung Note 2 Verizon (SCH-I605)? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm planning on running Lineage OS. I was wondering if I can load Lineage OS on my Note 2 device. I would hopefully like Mobile Services like LTE and calling/texting to work, wifi too. Help please!

You should make a TWRP backup and try the build for t0lte.
If it doesn't work then restore your backup.

Thanks! But you know... I'm a little bit new to this. What is t0lte mean and would verizon work with this (LTE and WIFI and also texting and calling.
Why I'm new is because I used to hack around with my old kindle tablet and I just got my first android phone (used to have an iPhone 6). So I check the lineage OS website and I didn't see one for SCH-I605, so I thought there would be no options. But thanks!

The galaxy note 2 has a few versions, the two biggest are the international version (t03g/GT-N7100; doesn't support LTE ), (t0lte/GT-N7105; supports LTE). I personally don't suggest you install lineage for t0lte but you could try and give it a shot. it has been known that kernels for the n7105 can work on the i605 so I don't see why a rom wouldn't be able to work since the differences between the devices are minimal. I doubt you will be able to install it though since there should be a device check within the updater script that prevents you from installing the ROM but you can look it up on how to remove this checking if you REALLY want to install it. Be careful if you flash the rom, make sure you do a TWRP backup of the system and data to be on the safe side.
Regards
EDIT: There seems to be a few people who has had some success when installing lineage t0lte for the i605. I still advise against it but at least now you know that it may work for you.

Thanks for that, now I understand! I've been stuck on one route for the past while though. Since the I605 uses Verizon which has a locked down boot loader... I've been trying to run Suck It Verizon and No You Verizon. Im kind of worried if I will get soft bricked, which is fine because I can flash stock recovery, but if I get hard bricked, I'm screwed for sure. So I've been trying to load a android 4.1 or 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 stock rom but I can't seem to do that because I run 4.4.2, as of that I already have No you Verizon (Android File Host has working downloads for it right now). If you know what I mean, have you gone through this trouble before (or parts of it?), because I am in horrible pain lol.

No joy on the t0lte LineageOS. It fails the device check.

Check the Verizon forum for possible solutions: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-2-verizon

[Q] Custom ROMs the solution?

I sucessfully rooted and installed Chainfire3D, but installing the drivers to play the Tegra 3 games caused me to get stuck on Samsung Logo on boot. The awesome person that I am I didn't do a backup .
So I installed a N7100 Custom ROM with CWM and it boots. As you'd suspect the radio doesn't work so I get no signal. On my LG Optimus 3D I could flash the baseband to make the radio work. Is there any process like that for the SGNII?
I'm a little skeptical to use Odin3 to revert to stock ATT even though I have Rogers Note II. Not sure if I'll lose root and access to CWM and brick it fully.
Is my only solution to wait for a Custom ROM for ATT? Sprint and T-Mobile versions already have Custom ROMs. Any DEVs working on ROM for ATT?
I share the same problem with you Hopefully someone put a stock rom so we can flash it and forget about this problem!
Fingers crossed!

As the phone officially is released tomorrow I am sure it will pop up custom ROM. But that you managed to flash international on your Rogers phone. Is that the exact same phone as ATT is going to be? If so that is amazing news!! That was my only concern about the ATT note as I was disappointed in the dev for ATT galaxy S 3 compared to the international.
Brave man. Shame you missed to take the backup first though. Good luck!

No choice, soft bricked thanks to Chainfire3D. The international ROMs work but no signal or IMEI. The models are different from the international version and the ATT version. If I'm not mistaken the radios are different and run on different bands for LTE.

Yes. The radios are different and needs to be repacked for sure or just have the ROM without radio.Fairly common to. IMEI however is an issue...

[Q] Will Verizon S4 Mini Ever Have Odin Files, Custom Recovery?

I am wondering if I will ever be able to install a custom recovery on my Verizon S4 Mini (SCH-I435). I used Kingo to root, but I don't really want to mess with the phone too much, because if I screw it up, there is no coming back from it. Do we know if anybody is working on extracting the stock Odin image files for this model?
As much as I LOVE the S4 Mini, if this model can't be hacked more than just root, I may return it for the Moto X.
Thanks.

I have all the partitions extracted but have had no luck building a Oden file. Keep getting Fail with oden.
And signature verification errors in recovery.
Tried to build recovery, but its beyond what I know how to do.
I have a Rom ready, just waiting on recovery to test it.
I am fairly new to samsung, been on HTC's for years. Ive soft bricked my first mini, so I know how you feel.
I was ok with the mini til they blocked wifi tether hotspot in the VRUAMK5 update.
I'm willing to do whatever I can to get this device going. If not, gotta move on
It seems like its gonna be a while.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
the Verizon model i435 can do a recovery to factory through the Verizon upgrade and repair app if you ever need to go back to stock.
Any news/developments on this? I'm really hoping to get CWM recovery installed.
It's hard without having adb during boot or odin to see exactly where what i have is going wrong. thinking around the bootloader method is going to do it but how is my question now cause i keep getting kernel: fail crap from knox i believe
I froze, then deleted all things knox. Here's hoping that doesn't mess my noise up.
Any updates on recovery? Sorry if this bumps a dead thread.
Hate to dig up old threads. but i have been working on some development on this device, mostly putting it on Straighttalk.
I have 2 of the same phones that are both working on Straighttalk and AT&T.
Heres where im at right now:
Rooted.
Android 4.4.2
baseband I435VRUBNE1
BUILD # KOT49H.I435VRUBNE1
SE "ENFORCING"
Now i used THIS THREAD to install a recovery onto the device (3.75 BETA Version)
all i need is someone to develop the recovery for the mini instead of the note 3...
ANY HELP?

[Q] Note 3 User - Moving to LG G3 - Please Help?

Dear LG Friends,
Long time XDA member, coming from the Windows Phone days HTC, then to Android HTC, bunch of Samsungs, and am now thinking about the LG space. More specifically moving from the Note 3 (T-Mobile US) running on the AT&T US, to the LG G3.
Before I do, I need some help from you guys. Which variant should I go for? I know my primary choices will be the T-Mobile and the AT&T variants (I believe they are 851 and 850)? Based on what's important to me, below, can you guys advise which variant to get?:
1. Development Support - Which variant has the MOST amount of Custom ROM options, that is on-going and kept current? I am spoiled with the Note 3, which has a massive development support. I have never tried the LG OS/Skin (escaping me what it's called), but if it's anything like the TouchWiz on Samsungs, I think it will be important to have CM/AOSP/AOKP and etc support.
2. This is related to # 1 - But I heard that only T-Mobile has the unlocked Bootloader? However, doing some research, I believe the AT&T and the Verizon and Sprint variants can also be unlocked? Is this true? If so, are they anymore limited than the factory unlocked T-Mobile variant?
3. LTE bands - I will most likely be using the phone on AT&T US, but if development options/support are higher on other variants, I might consider buying those models, even if they are missing some AT&T bands. For the Note 3 - T-Mobile is a Pentaband phone, meaning it had all the bands needed, so it could easily work on AT&T LTE, all the time. The reverse was not true.
And basically that is it. Initial instinct says to go chase the T-Mobile variant, based on my needs above. But please educate me and help me out if I have missed something. Thank you so much in advance!
Any input guys?

If you want OTA updates i suggest sticking with the AT&T variant since you have a valid AT&T sim. If you use a AT&T sim in a T-Mobile variant you wont ever get OTA updates and that means missing out on necessary fixes
1. All 3 US Variants are mostly the same, all have CM12 and all the random obscure AOSP roms as well
2. Well unlocked bootloader isnt that fancy it just means theres fastboot mode compared with the other editions where fastboot mode doesnt work properly even if you enable it. It essentially just makes installing TWRP easier since you dont have to root before installing it unlike other variants
Nevertheless Lollipop can be rooted on all US Variants right now really easily. But the only downside to it is that removing custom roms sometimes can be a pain since you have to use a way where it sometimes works and sometimes doesnt

Hi Friend,
Thanks for your response, this is very helpful!
No OTA is never a thing I consider. Everything that matters to me, is what I listed already.
So, is the development support (new ROMs, updates and etc) the same for all US variants or would you say one variant is particularly more popular?
As for the locked bootloader, I thought you needed an Unlocked bootloader to flash Custom ROMs, no? It seems like "Bump" fixes this for Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T and gets you TWRP on your phone, but do we need to do extra steps everything to the boot.img for non T-Mobile variants? Or is it a one time mod and then regular flashing and Backups with TWRP?
If it's the same for all variants after Bump, then you're right, I will likely stay with an AT&T variant, thanks to that Band 7 LTE.
Thank you again for your help, hopefully more can chime in !

No need for any steps. Its just install TWRP and your on your way to installing whatever rom you want
Unlocked bootloader means that the system doesnt security (consistency) checks on system partitions
For LG G3, its because someone cracked the encryption for the kitkat android bootloader which means people can sign non stock boot.img without having to worry about unlocking the bootloader.

Gotcha, thanks again mate! Another (hopefully last) question. If I buy G3, where someone had already OTA'd to 5.0+, will I still be able to root it, install TWRP and get KK ROMs, like CM11 or something?
And vice versa, if the phone comes with KK, do I need to patch with Bump and then I can install ROMs?
Thank you again!

You can root it but i dont know if installing TWRP will work. I didnt want to try it incase it doesnt work and it runs the factory reset script instead. That happened to me once before
But i would say just to be sure, downgrade back to KitKat to do it
Yeah, if the phone comes with KitKat just root, install TWRP using root permissions and then your on your way

This is helpful, once again bud. So how would I downgrade back to KK? Would I have to run a stock firmware of some sort? In Samsung, he Flash a .Tar file through their flashing tool called the Odin. Would that be similarly done here?

Downgrading 6.0.1 to 5.1.1

Hi if anyone can help- I'm on the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 4 after 2 Note 7's and a Note 3 before that on Biggin's so I've sorta been out of the root game. I want to downgrade from 6.0.1 to 5.1.1. I am downloading the full firmware for the Note 4 from further back in this thread (N910VVRU2CPA1) and am currently on (N910VVRU2CPG2).
From what I understand, I need to do a factory reset, then go to Odin and flash the firmware. I have Odin 3.10.7 and am downloading the N910VVRU2CPA1 as we speak. I see 'hsbadr' firmwares in his thread and the PIT file TRLTE_USA_VZW.pit which I'm not sure is compatable pit file for the specific 5.1.1 firmware or the necessary pit file is included in the full firmware and can anyone tell me if these are the right steps?are these the right steps Any information would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks
@tjmethod by chance how did you process go, did you manage to root and unlock bootloader?

I bought the phone already with 6.0.1 on it and read that you cannot unlock/ root it with mm on it and can only be done after downgrading to 5.1.1 so I haven't done anything yet
I'm in the same boat...Coming from a n7. Bought a n4 on eBay...It's got 601. Want to root...Guess we need to downgrade....Is it possible?

Before you can start rooting, you'll need to be on 5.1.1 BPA1. If you're currently on 6.0.1, just download the BPA1 firmware from Sammobile, factory reset on 6.0.1, then flash BPA1 stock via Odin.

Hi thanks, I had called Samsung and talked to top tier tech support and was told that once the phone has been upgraded to 6.0.1., it cannot be downgraded. and that i need to search the rooting sites and try to find where someone has found a breach or workaround for unlocking the bootloader which will usually have a bounty but I dont know. top tier tech support has always been good. Do you think thats false it cannot be downgraded?

I am a little confused as to whether I've found the right firmwares but I've found the firmwares here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...mware-firmware-kernel-modem-recovery-t2942937
If I am downgrading to 5.1.1. which this phone was obviously on before, I don't know what this phone was on since it currently is on the PL1 build which are not one of the two 6.0.1. builds on this page. I don't even know if that matters.. Anyway, the two 5.1.1. builds are PA1 and OK3. Do you know where any other firmwares out there that might show my current one and the previous build that it came from?

Yeah they're out there but that thread hasn't been updated recently. Basically the order after pf3 is pg2, pj2, and then cpl1. The one you want, if your planning on rooting, is bpa1. Also, as far as your question in the op about the pit file, it should really only be used if absolutely necessary. It's in case your partitions have been corrupted for some reason and you need to repartition your device.
Edit- I was going to link to those other firmwares but they are buried in the thread that your already looking in. Either way they aren't necessary for you to unlock your bootloader, you can go straight from cpl1 to bpa1.

Hey thanks for confirming all this. So all I need to download and install is the bpa1 firmware via Oden with the AP button I think- I've got a few different versions of Oden on my pc. It's been a while since I've flashed firmware on a phone but I remember it was easy. So just save my pictures, any files, etc. on the sd card, remove it, then do a factory reset or when I put the setting into usb download mode, and flash the firmware this will automatically factory reset the phone? Also earlier today Verizon has been trying to push an software upgrade. After I unlock the bootloader and install twrp then flash a rom, do I need to somehow disable the update notice. I remember having to do that once with another phone.
What rom are you on? Thanks again for the Info-

Yeah that all sounds spot on. I would definitely do the factory reset before you start, but other than that your good. To block the updates, you can uninstall the SDM apps. There are 2 of those and you'll need root to remove them, but you can disable them without root with that debloater tool. The rom I'm currently using is kind of work in progress. I have a couple stock based roms in the dev section, one is stock_plus that has a stock feel with some mods added and the other is Modest Rom that is got some grace apps added and system ui mods. You can find them here and here if you want to check them out.

Awesome, I'm going to check those out but I forgot the biggest question of all... how to get rid of the Galaxy lag- is there a rom or tweak where this can be fixed since recovery cache delete and cleaning tools dont really do much?
Thanks again-

Custom kernels help a lot. The problem is it's kind of slim pickings for our specific model, but some of the international kernels work well too. Oscar kernel is made for the 910v so that's probably the most reliable but if your like me, I like to use a permissive kernel and Ram kernel is not a bad choice for that though it's not as feature rich.

I really dont know the difference... from what I remember a kernel is the layer between the software and the hardware- a key component of the os. I'm guessing the permissive ones can be used for different roms or firmware? You can probably tell I really don't that much about the root game. The last time I flashed a firmware was on my note 3 after I bricked it. Then rerooted and got on to biggins rom which was great ut I never understood or learned how to use xposed. Anyway, I downloaded Modest Rom, PJ2 _STOCK .tar and am downloading cpl1_tar but I know that once I flash bpa1 firmware which puts the phone back on 5.1.1. I see your roms are 6.0.1 roms, after I flash the bpa1, will the bootloader be unlocked? If so can I then just flash the cpla1_tar or is that not a full firmware? or use one of the two 6.0.1 firmwares from where I found the cpa1? Are the kernels different from 6.0.1 and 5.1.1 and where to find the downloads?? I appreciate the tips especially coming from a develpoer and i'm happy to make a donation- I'm not sure how?
Thanks again!

Hey buddy, did you get it figured out? I broke my arm at work on Sunday and of course it's my right arm so I'm having some issues responding back on my note with one hand. I bet I've dropped this thing 20 times already.

Oh man that sucks- hopefully they gave you some good pain meds. Anyway, I havent taken th plunge yet- once I get on to 5.1.1 then twrp, I want to go on to 6.0.1 but am unsure as to what point the bootloader is unlocked or exactly what to do to upgrade to 6.0.1 once I crack the bl. I just dont want to go through the dreaded set up everything twice.

twrp port request for tab s 10.5 lte canada SM-T805W

As you know chainfire makes a cf-autoroot for this model of the SM-T805W cellular tablet. (Having serached the forum here, there is one other post where someone claims to have installed the twrp 3.0.0 running on this model, claiming to use the wifi version download.) I tried flashing both the wifi and lte version of twrp, but claims of it working do not hold up, and both fail to produce a working recovery, and so I think this model just needs its own ported version.
If someone is able to point out a compatible version, I would greatly appreciate the advice. For inspection I have linked the recovery for SM-T805W for the kitkat stock rom.

If my only purpose for twrp is to flash zip files and if root is gotten through cf-autoroot, would it suffice to use chainfire's flashify for all intended flashing? is this function equivalent with it through twrp?
thanks!
Is there a reason you're hanging on to KitKat?
Also existing kitkat versions of twrp work for your device.

I guess I assumed recoveries would be compatible between android versions, but I'm not sure wher this is indicated. I only installed kitkat yesterday to figure what works or doesn't but still didn't see a compatible twrp.
I am genrally on lollipop, and will go back due to compatibility with apps. Is there a working version for lollipop then? Thanks!

If you upgrade to lollipop or marshmallow, no reason why the build here shouldn't work.

wow thanks for the link; having read that it is like the link of the year; you're probalby annoyed i couldn't find ito on my own.
And your twrp works on kitkat as well, as i just flashed it. (i figured it would, as i've flashed the same recovery over different versiosn of android on other devices just fine, although it could have been luck.)
anyway thanks so much for having making this; it is a great device to have.
