Trying to mount the phone so can transfer files to the phone. Anyone have any luck? Tried installing a bunch of Samsung drivers but none would take. Anyone else have this problem?

Did you tryin installing kies? If not, install kies, plug the phone in after install, and once drivers are installed, uninstall kies.

I just received my Galaxy S2 and am trying to root the phone. I followed the steps in the how-to but Odin is not recognizing my phone. Are there any tricks to get Odin to see my phone? I have kies installed on my pc.
Are you running kies and Odin as admin if you have windows 7? And did you restart your computer after installing kies?

I am pretty sure Kies is installed properly. Reinstalled a couple of times. I just tried to root again this morning but am getting a "Threat Detected" message when opening Odin with a threat name Trojan Horse Pakes.LGN. Same error on 2 diff computers.
I dl'd the zip file from a youtube site and have tried dl'ing from xda. Anyone have a link to a clean version?
Just to be sure, did you plug in your phone while running kies to let it find and install all the drivers for your phone? After that open task manager and kill anything that says kies or it can cause problems. This way always worked for me running Windows 7 dualbooted from a macbook pro.
Here is where I got all the root files from

What version of Odin are you running and have you tried a different computer?

Got it to work. I was using Kies mini....
THanks for the help.
Areyou sureyou are usingthe correct veersion of kies?

Hi I'm try to root my galaxy note 2 using odin and its not working.
Here's what I specifically did:
1. Put th phone in download mode
2. Connect the phone to my laptop using usb
3. Install the device drivers
4. Run odin.exe
Now, when I run odin I get an alert msg with some boxes and an ok button.
I say ok, the odin window opens for a moment and immediately closes. No errors, no messages.
Am I missing something here?
Why isn't it working?
Thanks in advance guys.

im ok with odin 1.85, if u already using 1.85, try download it again from different source, if not, try download that
and better give us the error message so we know what happened
V1.85 is what I'm using. And as I said there r no errors. The window just closes by itself.
Don't really think it's a problem with the source. But I'll check that out too.

It`s best to use Odinv3 3.0.4 and have you enabled usb debugging on your phone?

kies is a pain ain the arse, uninstall kies..install only drivers, restart pc
use the v3.06 odin , run as administrator,
no need for usb debugging enabled
try different usb ports
close antivirus and firewall
try another pc
if still problem, try mskip tool kit
Just downed a different copy of odin 3.04 and everything worked as expected.
My phone is now rooted
In hindsight is seems like v1.85 that I had isn't compatible with the windows certain I have. It's crazy bcos I remember I had used the same to root my galaxy S.
Anyway. Thanks for the help guys

I believe kies is to be uninstalled before using ODIN.

That's not correct. I use Odin everyday and certainly do not uninstall Kies first. OP, have you tried different ports on your pc? Try them all. Another thing I read, if you are on a 64 bit machine, try creating a 32 bit virtual and doing it from there(last resort). Try doing it from a Windows XP computer(if not already). And try to flash back completely to stock, unrooted, and start again. See if any of those help.

Are you trying to root in download mode or with the phone turned on?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 4
root
It is in download mode. I heard people had this problem before but found no real answer.
Your are using the *.tar? Or you unzipped it?
Also try reinstalling drivers. Connect it turned on, let the PC recognize it. Then do do the same in download mode. Then disconnect the phone, open Odin an try again.

My Rogers galaxy s3 does not connect to my computer. It was rooted when I got the phone and I was only able to connect it to a pc once when I unrooted it. I forget how I managed to do this. Now I'm wanting to root my phone again but since I can't connect it to my pc I'm not sure what to do. I've tried using many different versions of framaroot and I've tried using poot but nothing seems to work

What happens when you connect your phone to the computer? Is it recognized at all by the computer but doesn't fully install or it is not recognized at all? If it is recognized but does not work, you may try installing the drivers on your PC. Installing Samsung Kies would be one way of doing this as Kies has all the drivers you need. Also check the USB cable you are using to be sure it's of good quality. I'd be hard pressed to understand how rooting or unrooting alone could affect recognition by your computer. To return your phone to stock-no-root, however, you'd need to download and flash the stock ROM, bootloader, modem and kernel zips via custom recovery (e.g. TWRP, CWM). You may search the threads for specific instructions on how to do this with the Canadian models.
It isn't recognized at all. I've tried multiple chords and different sub ports. It's unrooted right now, I want to root it.

Also check your phone's settings under Development mode to be sure USB debugging is enabled. If your aim is to root, you could, in principle, use another device like another phone, camera or micro SD adaptor, to copy the rooting files (Super SU zip) to an SD card and bring this to your phone. However, unless you already have custom recovery installed, you'll need to flash this via Odin which requires a computer. I
I had usb debugging on. This is really starting to seem hopeless.
