[Q] How to update Firmware of ROOTED S.G. Ace 2 GT-I8160 from 2..3.6 to latest ? - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, first of all my phone details are:
Phone-Details
Android-Version: 2.3.6
Name: Samsung Galaxy Ace 2
Model: GT-I1860
Buildnumber: GINGERBREAD.XXLI2
Kernel-Version: 2.6.35.7-I8160XXLD8-CL1100997 [email protected] #2 SMP PREEMPT Tue Apr 24 05:35:29 KST 2012
Rooted: Yes
and what I'd like to do is updating the firmware to the latest possible version (eventually 4.1.2)
(I would like to keep root-access)
What I tried is:
* Updating the firmware by the normal update-notification of my phone
* Updating the firmware by the normal update-notification of my phone after a hard reset
Maybe some of these things work (if so, please also explain how):
* Resetting root, installing the firmware update, rooting again (idk how)
* Updating the firmware via PC (using a firmware from: live.samsung-updates.com/index.php?device=GT-I8160) (idk how / which tools to use for this)
----
It would be great if you could help me out with this. I haven't found any truly useable post on how to achieve this.

Anyone ?

[Solved]
Ok, well I solved it. Here's what worked:
After hard reset and SuperSU's unroot I connected the phone to my PC. Then with Kies (samsung.com/de/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/) I was able to update the Firmware to 4.1.2.
After doings so I could root again using this tutorial: ibtimes.co.uk/galaxy-ace2-root-official-android412-i8160xxmf2-jellybean-491401
First time I tried to update the Firmware with Kies it didn't work (as far as I recall it didn't show an error message either).
Please set this thread to solved and/or closed if possible.

[Q] Keys: your device's current firmware version is not supported to update via kies

My phone is unrooted (and with the original ROM).
After installing Keys I get the message:
"Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update via Kies"
* Current firmware version: PDA|:LJ3 / PHONE:LJ2 / CSC: LJ2 (ILO)
If I select Tools->"Firmware Upgrade and Initialization", I get the message:
`GT-N7100' does not support initializing.
Any ideas?, thanks

Look here http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-N7100&pcode=ILO&os=1&type=1#firmware, if you have that firmware (N7100XXALIH) you have the correct version. If you don`t flash it with Odin. You have the wrong software atm for Kies support.
I have the exact same problem as amirdt.
My phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 2) runs the stock rom it came with. I haven't rooted the device since it works perfectly with the stock ROM, but once connected to Kies, I get following:
Firmware information:
Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies.
Current firmware version:
PDA:LJ3 / PHONE:LJ2 / CSC:LJ4 (XXX) (What does the XXX stand for?)
Build number
N7100XXALJ3
Reading gee2012's reply above, I visited the site that was linked in the post and did a search on GT-7100. Found me a long list of frimwares. All of them were Android 4.1.1, except one:
GT-N7100 - Open Europe
PDA: N7100XXDLJ2
CSC: N7100OXADLJ2
Version: 4.1.2
Date: 2012-10-29
Regions: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom
And this is pretty much where my knowledge comes to an end.
I find 64 matches for my current build and one for the 4.1.2 (listed above).
I don't understand why Kies is giving me the error message about my firmware not being supported
I don't know whether I am eligible to update my phone to Jellybean 4.1.2. Kies is a no-go because of the error message. If I try to select Tools -> Firmware Upgrade and Initialization, I get the error "GT-N7100 does not support initializing".
If I try the "software update" check on my phone, it says "Latest updates have already been installed". I don't know what to do or believe on this one.
I'm kind of confused. I can't determine whether my phone is up to date and working as intended or if there is really something that is not right with the firmware. Should I be able to upgrade to Android 4.1.2?
I'm sorry for many questions, but right now I am both out of ideas and knowledge. If someone smarter than me could provide me some support/answers on this one, I'd be most happy. I use my phone a lot and it's my primary tool when on the field.

2 things:
1. If you want to update with Kies and receive OTA updates you need to flash the firmware that is specific for your country/region
2. If you want to flash the latest firmware like 4.1.2 you can flash any firmware with Odin but you cannot use Kies/OTA`s anymore.
This will also change the CSC file.

Thank you for a quick reply, gee2012.
I prefer to keep things as simple as possible without too much in-depth technical tweaking. Your answers confused me even more.
1. I have very little to no clue how to figure out what my firmware would be (Sweden - and there seem to be several of them), even less to determine which one it would be the right one.
2. I don't know whether to trust Kies or the "software update" in "About device". Kies reports an error, the software update says that all of the latest updates are already installed. Does this mean that OTA updates should work?
I'm sorry for asking more questions. What I would need a is a definite step-by-step guide how to fix these kinds of problems.

Check on www.sammobile.com/firmware for the latest firmware for your country/region. If that version is not identical to the version that is on your phone Kies and OTA`s will not work. In that case you need to download and flash that firmware from the Sammobile website. That`s it mate. You can check your firmware in the phone dialpad by pressing *#1234#.
Once again, thank you for your reply and guidance. I think things might become a bit interesting now:
GT-N7100 Nordic countries 2012 October Android 4.1.1 N7100XXALJ3 N7100OXXALJ4
The PDA=N7100XXALJ3 (displayed as "AP" when I did that dialpad trick you mentioned, and shows up as the build number in "About device") and CSC=N7100OXXALJ4. To me it looks like a match and also be the latest firmware for my country/region. If this is correct, then Kies and OTA should work? Kies still reports the same error about the firmware, but the software update option on the phone reports that latest updates have already been installed.
Does this indicate that the phone is working fine as is OTA, but Kies is not?
I also have this problem, I went from Omega rom back to stock through Kies recovery procedure. Now when I check it says the exact same thing
"Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update via Kies" Homw is this possible?
Thx

Hi. I'm new to this forum. Hope someone can help me or at least give light to the situation.
I followed the first option. i downloaded the official stock rom from sammobile for country: Philippines and Provider: Globe. and i was able to successfully flash it. my phone now shows the correct Kernels, etc.
However, when i tried to connect my Samsung Galaxy S2, Kies still says:
Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies.
- Current firmware version: PDA:LPF / PHONE:LPB / CSC:LPF (COA)
not sure if this is because this isn't the correct firmware for my phone, country and provider or if kies shows this error because the phone, which is a Samsung S2 I9100 is still not elligible to upgrade to JellyBean since Samsung still hasn't rolled out the Jelly Bean update for S2 yet. If it is the former, what should i do?
Hope the experts here can help me or clarify matters. Thanks in advance you guys.
Guys, same problem here.
Phone's ROM seems to be (as far as I can tell from Samfirmware) a Hong Kong/Phillipines version and to receive updates, from the guidance above, it seems I will have to flash UK stock ROM. On Samfirmware there does not appear to be a ROM for my carrier (Orange/EE) though the phone was bought unbranded, not through them. Couple of questions if anyone can help:
- So long as I flash a ROM for the right region, is it necessary to have the right carrier's ROM?
- Does anyone know if 4.1.2 is actually being distributed in the UK?
- I can swap SIM to O2 temporarily (There is an O2 ROM on Samfirmware). I presume if there is a uk (O2) update I could install their 4.1.1 stock, install the 4.1.2 update and the unlock the phone? Any problems with this?
Any help much appreciated.
(N7100 - Galaxy Note 2.)
SORTED! Flashed latest stock ROM from Samfirmware which is 4.1.1 (o2 UK) and multitasking features all working. Kies still says it won't update the phone. Phone says latest updates installed but as far as I can tell that's because 4.1.2 isn't out yet. Not particularly a problem now though. Will just flash latest stock when it comes available.

[Q] Bricked Ace 2 while downgrading (SOLVED post #2)

Hello everyone. If someone will have time, I would be glad to get some help here.
I've been using ODIN before for updating android many times and this time once I had really bad luck
I have Galaxy Ace 2 which I updated to JB I8160XXMF1 (with repartitioning as far as I can remember) some time ago. Now because the owner complained about her phone being too slow, I decided to downgrade back to GB 2.3.6. I've used those files:
system_rooted.tar.md5
csc.tar.md5
GT-I8160_EUR_XX_4G.pit
First two I downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35814242&postcount=238
Now the .pit file I got from elswere as most of the "Downgrade Ace 2 from JB to GB" guides says I need one.
So, connected, flashed everything with repartitioning and after restart my phone stuck on Samsung boot screen. I can't go to recovery mode, but download mode works fine. Tried to reflash - same problem.
Now what should I do now?
Got the bugger back to life by flashing I8160XXMF1_I8160OXXMF1_HOME.tar.md5 back. Now could someone be friendly please and tell me what I did wrong while downgrading?
UPDATE:
OK so tried to flash GB again by downloading official FW from sammobile, file I8160XXLK7_I8160-BTULK7_I8160XXLK7_HOME.tar.md5 this time without CSC&PIT and stuck on first boot screen again. Reflashed back to JB XXMF1
At the moment I have:
4.1.2
Baseband version: I8160XXMF1
Kernel: [email protected] #2 SMP PREEMPT...
Build number: JZO54K.I8160XXMF1
What do I need to do to downgrade from here to Ginger Bread 2.3.6?
Thank you!
UPDATE 2:
All sorted. Downloaded another set of files for downgrading and reflashed (PDA, CSC and PIT). If anyone encounters this problem in the future, these are the files I've used:
CODE_GT-I8160_I8160XXLK6_CL1211243_REV00_user_SEC_KEY_LK6_4G.tar.md5
CSC_GT-I8160-MULTI-CSC-OXELF1_SEC_KEY_4G.tar.md5
GT-I8160_EUR_XX_4G.pit
Links can be found on youtube when searching for "Ace 2 Downgrade".
hy don't you post the steps you took to fix it. This way if someone else comes along in the postition you were in they'll know what to do.

[Q] Questions about upgrading from CSC:NB4 to CSC:NF9

Hello
Back in March, I rooted my T-Mobile (USA) Note 3 'after' upgrading OTA to KitKat 4.4.2 - everything has worked great. Today, when I connected my phone to Kies3, I see that there is an available firmware update from:
PDA:NB4 / PHONE:NB4 / CSC:NB4 (TMB)
to
CSC:NF9 (TMB)
It is asking me if I want to upgrade in Kies 3. My question is, what happens if I say 'yes'? Also, I believe the Knox flag is tripped as I used the following procedure back in March:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2672393
What is the correct way to upgrade my phone?
Thanks in advance!
Update: So I went ahead and performed the upgrade to CSC:NF9 (TMB) using Kies3 via USB cable. It looks like the upgrade was successful and my phone did not brick during the process - however, it appears my phone is 'not' rooted now.
My question is, what is the correct procedure to root my phone which is on Android 4.4.2, build number KOT49H.N900TUVUDNF9?
Thanks!

Unroot, take Note 2 back to stock

I need some guidance.
I rooted my wife's phone when she first got it a couple of years ago and it hasn't really received many updates since then. Lately she's been saying that the phone is sluggish. I was thinking about unrooting and just doing a factory reset and going back to stock.
I need guidance on how to unroot and go back to stock having the following systemn info:
Model: SPH-L900
Android Version: 4.1.2
Baseband Version: L900VPAMC2
Kernel version: 3.0.31-903705
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT Tue Jan 29 17:10:38 KST 2013
I have watched the videos using Odin and a tar file. I downloaded Odin but I have no idea what tar file to use with my baseband version.
Thanks for your help.

So I take it if you are in this section of the forum you are using a SPRINT Galaxy Note II which has the model number SPH-L900. Before you follow any of my advice, please check under "settings" "about this device" to make sure that is the case.
I recently unrooted my phone to upgrade to KitKat, and that video has correct instructions, but one link is broken, which is the tar file for the OS. Just go to samsung-updates and search for that model (SPH-L900) number and download the file (be warned, the file download is excruciatingly slow), then load that file into odin. The version you want should be "L900VPUCNE2". Download that, apply it with Odin, and your phone should go to KitKat and be unrooted.
Again, be careful, back up your data and so on, because I'm not in your shoes and its possible to brick your device doing it.
Yes I do have the Sprint version that you reference.
Do you know the link to the video that you used? Since she's been rooted I never updated her firmware so she's still on 4.1.2, might be cool to update her to kit kat.

S6 Flashed With Edge, Can't Flash Any Firmware

Hello!
I've recently acquired an used Samsung Galaxy S6 (SM-G920P, but in Download Mode it says G920R4) and I'm trying to go back to the stock firmware. That being said, I have no access to the original box, nor to the vendor.
The phone was initially rooted and I tried to unroot it so as to have OTA updates. Turns out it seems to have no S/N, and the one it does have in the Settings is seen as incorrect by Samsung Smart Switch.
ODIN fails to flash any G920P firmware in it. (Complete (Write) fail)
I have reasons to believe someone also tried to flash it with Edge's firmware, since I managed to access the menu for its side notifications. Is there any way to solve this? I'd need the phone to work in Vodafone's network, since it's the one I'm using...
The phone is working perfectly as it is, so if there's no going back, I can leave it like this. I'd just really like to have updates, and it's crucial for it to be kept unlocked.
I've not found an answer or solution for this yet.
