[Q] Nova Launcher / soft buttons lag - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I am using Nova Launcher and I hide my soft buttons on several apps. But when I return to my home screen after being in an app, the home screen jumps up a little, as if it needs to reposition because the soft buttons appear on my home screen. This only happens when I just came from an app where I had hidden the soft keys. It just takes a second or so, and I know it's not such a big deal of course, but it does bother me a little. Does anyone know if there's a way to solve this?

try keep in memory feature?

In Nova this is called Aggressive Desktop but I had mine already ticked and was still suffering the same minor issue. Updated to the new beta 3.11beta2 and (in my very limited testing about 12 seconds and 10 screen open and shuts) and it appears to be fixed. Hope this helps.

I have the same beta version but unfortunately it's not fixed yet.. Thanx anyway!

Having the same problem. Not a deal breaker but definitely annoying.

Ok so after a day I have found that I still get some jumping up when coming from lock screen but only about 1/3 of the time. Certainly found since updating to beta that it is beta!! hahahaha. Hopefully Nova will have this sorted in the not too distant future.

I am kinda stupid. I solved the problem by hiding the soft keys for Nova Launcher as an app. No more soft keys on the home screen solves the issue of course. How could I not think of this. I hope it helps you

Speed up your Hero (Kill Rosie)

Hi All,
I think this deserves a new thread but if I'm wrong, sorry mods..
Anyway, I'm exceedingly happy with my Hero and although I never thought it was particularly slow or laggy I have encountered a bug which has actually sped up my handset. I long pressed the home button to get the recently run apps list up and a message popped up asking me if I wanted to complete the action using Touchflo or Home. I chose home and the phone took me to a screen with my wallpaper but none of my HTC widgets and only three home screens. Since this happened the phone has been zooming along. I have not felt the need to try to restore touchflo at all, although I do miss the toggle widgets.
As a bonus I have also noticed that a lot of the Apps from the market that had been Force Closing are now working perfectly. Maybe this won't matter after the update, but if you feel your Hero is laggy you could try this.
Hope this helps.

Are you still able to use the hero music player or does it default to the android player now?
I can still use the hero music player and it is still shown on screen when the screen is locked.

you still use any app the same way you would normally it just brings the home screen back to the basic g1/magic look....
I was thinking of doing this , but really losing the htc widgets is not a solution , so I stopped the google automatic sync , and now the phone is actually fast and there is no lag .
tried yesterday....loosing the 7 screen layout + widgets slows me down much more than TouchFlo slows the Hero down :/ IMO, not worth it :/
I don't think it's a bug. You can do this by holdning down the home button. When the tasklist shows, you press the home button again. From here you can choose to use eather "Android HOME" or "TouchFLO". and you can do the same thing from Android HOME, so it's not permanent! Try it! Play around!

I used to be able to do this but I must have inadvertently changed something and now I can't access the Android Home anymore. I'm quite disappointed since I want to go to the Android Home page to test some things.
So beware. you could potentially lose this function.

u guys. to enable android home page. jusy go to settings-applications - from there go to touch flo and clear defaults.
go back to your home screen and press the home button now. u would be able to choose between android and touch flo from there.if you want to select something as default .... just tick it and there u go.
same thing applies for the android page, if you have selected it as default and want5 to revert back to touchflo. samething, setting-application- clear defaults in the home application .................etc etc,
Yeah, I also removed Rosie, and I gotta say, I really like the Hero now!
Rosie slowed the Hero to a crawl, now it's running again.
I'm eagerly waiting for the update, but if the Rosie update isn't significant, I'll probably end up removing it again..
Losing the HTC widgets is a bummer, but the speed-up it gave me is SO worth it
cant find it
I keep pressing the home and get the choice of recent programs but pressing the home again gets me to home. Secondly, In settings and application I dont get any such option for touch flo etc. Any other way of trying out the phoe without touchflo?

I second that.. Is there anyway to work around that..?
bar control or home switcher should do the trick....
bar control allows you to add a shortcut to home or touchflo on the notification bar permanently, and home switcher just jumps between the two i believe.

[Q] go launcher ex - screen sensitivity problems???

so, just got my phone looking and feeling pretty much how I wanted it using go launcher but I am noticed that either i have a problem with screen sensitivity or there is a problem with go. I am finding that i have to click some icons several times to launch them, seem worse in drawer.
Anyone else finding that the get the audible click but nothing happens?
EDIT: switched back to ADW and everything is back to normal, gotta be an issue with GO..
No. The only problems I've had with Go Loauncher EX is that there was a lag between the start of a horizontal swipe and the homescreens starting to swipe - resolved once I stopped the wallpaper from scrolling too, and in the app drawer sometimes a long press doesn't launch "edit mode".
Other than that it's all gravy...
odd, my problems disappeared when moving back to ADW. Cheers anyway though.
+1 haha i thought it was just me that was having this issue.when you select something on launcher it indicates the touch with the glow but nothing happens?press couple times and it will open.that is what i was having.was making think i was having lag.went back to touchwiz not a issue.
+2 Hot damn, I thought I was going crazy.
Edit: I emailed them about it but it definitely goes away with a different launcher
cool hopefully they will have a fix in no time.those guys work hard.its hard to go back to touchwiz after go.i also use there go pro messenger.built in backup etc like the laucnher.
Having the same "lag" problem.
So, we're all NOT crazy
Cant say I have had this issue and I have been using GO Launcher for quite some time now.
Yes, I noticed this bug also.
I'm using go launcher ex for some time and this came out since 2-3 weeks.
I hope they will fix it soon.

I am having the same issue here. Gestures are disabled but that didn't help (even after restarting phone). Used to have Launcher Pro Plus which didn't have this kind of behavior.
Sent dev an email though.
Same observations. Especially bad for icons in the dock. I have always disabled gestures.
+1 I also have this problem from time to time. First I tought it was me missing the right spot on the screen, but it must be a bug.

Update Auto Rotation Bug? Sticks in portrait

Update,
It is caused by many different apps, all very useful.
Cycling recent apps ( square key) frees up landscape.
Annoying behavior, a power button screen cycle resets. Anyone else notice this?
It happens in different apps. VZW phone on latest FW.
BTW I am trying to find a rotation helper app that can force 0* and 90* rotation only. Not 270* while 180* is normally excluded. Anyone?
This is missing the mark.

I think it is an incompatibility with many apps.
@aviwdoowks Did you make any progress in getting better screen rotation response? I was using NOVA launcher, and found I hadnt checked off "auto-rotate" under the NOVA settings.

I like notification toggles. It and others do not allow 0* and 90* only auto. But on the Z it is not such a bother as the Maxx.
The bug seems to be nearly all gone. ... I did take the Dec patch. Now I have OTA disabled, on my dash 1
Look at pic, I think it is my favorite UC browser causing the stick!
I Doooo not want to uninstall it.

Three little "problems" I found using the OnePlus 5T

Hey guys,
while I'm extremely happy with the phone (awesome screen, perfect fingerprint location IMO, general form factor), I've come across three little problems:
1.) The biggest "flaw": Using another launcher / wallpaper than the stock one causes the face-unlock to be slower. And if you set another launcher / wallpaper, there will be a noticeable delay when you turn on the screen: The wallpaper will take longer to appear on the screen than everything else.
2.) The time between hitting the power button on the right / using the double-tap-to-wake feature and the screen actually turning on is almost a second. Coming from the 3T btw, where it almost felt instant.
3.) I'm not sure whether it's a flaw but it's just something that looks strange: The greyish navbar when using a dark-themed app. (I wouldn't really call this a problem, it's just a consistency flaw you notice, while operating the phone.
So first of all: Do you have the same impressions? It might very well just be my phone and you don't encounter these problems. But in another thread I already read about the face-unlock time taking longer, when using another launcher / wallpaper.
Thanks in advance for any replies and experiences!

There's an app in the play store called Navbar Apps which can fix the navbar colour issue. Doesn't even need root!

Thanks Lum_UK, but I already tried that one. I find it to be a bit slow in overlaying the "correct" color, i.e. the overlay isn't always there from the beginning when opening an app.
And I'm not interested in rooting anymore.
You can force it to just black in that app, which may be preferable to the grey, and avoids the delay issue.
Otherwise, probably not much you can do unless a future OOS adds new options.
Use gallery to set ur wallpapers, do lockscreen 1st then homescreen, don't do both. Using Action Launcher

What launcher r u using
So far I tried Nova, Lawnchair and the stock launcher. I'm encountering this problem with Nova and Lawnchair, not with the stock one. But if I set a custom wallpaper in the stock launcher, the wallpaper-appearing-delay is also there.

#2 is because of face unlock. Disable it and it will be instant.
Personally i use ambient display + lift up display so when i pick the phone i can see the clock and if needed, the double tap to wake in that screen is instant too

You can turn off the animation in Navbar Apps as well. That way the correct color will load much faster.
I don't use Face Unlock, but everything turns on instantly for me.
However, the nav bar color oscuro the worst and I can't wait to get back to a good AOSP firmware. OxygenOS is great and all but missing very important features I just can't live (comfortably) without.

You're right! This means bye-bye then to face unlock, unless this is fixed. I'm using smart lock anyway. :good:
Thank you for all your replies so far! They really were helpful!
Now could you still say something about "problem" #1? Do you observe the same or is it different? So if you use another launcher / wallpaper, will the wallpaper take longer to load then everything else?
1. agreed, same exact issue here.
2. i dont have that issue. both FP and FU are pretty much instant. sounds strange. maybe factory reset is really the way to go.
3. yea i agree, not optimal.
Hey guys,
I just wanted to give a heads up to you: I just discovered how to avoid the 'wallpaper-lag' while turning the screen on when using a non-stock wallpaper or non-stock launcher:
1. Force stop the OnePlus launcher.
2. Uninstall any updates to it.
3. Use the launcher you like. (Tested with lawnchairs and Nova)
At least for me, the wallpaper lag is gone!

For me this doesn't solve the problem. If the wallpaper is set through another launcher (Nova in my case) and if I use Nova, when using face unlock, i first see the lock screen for some split seconds and then it unlocks. If the lockscreen wallpaper is set through the OnePlus launcher itself, it skips the split seconds on the lockscreen completely and goes directly onto the homescreen which feels much more instantaneous. Also if I'm using a live wallpaper, like the nice new Pixel wallpapers which I wanted to use, the problem occurs even when setting the wallpaper through the OnePlus launcher and when using OnePlus launcher itself.
I've uninstalled the OnePlus launcher updates and tried to force stop it (although this wasn't possible as it seemingly wasn't even started to begin with), but nothing changed.
And yes, the wallpaper will often times take longer to appear on the screen than everything else, exactly like Dimitry from Hardware Canucks demoed in his review:
https://youtu.be/Kf93Nz_bgFs?t=7m48s
This looks very glitchy in my opinion but is of course rather nitpicky.
And as Sangraphim said, the time between hitting the power button on the right / using the double-tap-to-wake feature and the screen actually turning on is definetly prolonged when using face unlock - but that's probably by design I guess, because it starts the front camera first and waits a bit to detect a face before actually turning on the screen.

Can't reorder pages anymore in Nova ?

I'm going nuts ! Is it no longer possible to reorder pages in Nova ? A long press on the page when in settings brings up "set as home page" and "delete" but there seems to be no way of MOVING the page! This is a major inconvenience. I activated infinite scrolling but that won't help if you want to insert a page. I must be missing something obvious ?
It has been months since you asked this question and so I hope you answered it yourself. I too thought that this was a problem.
But when I touched the middle of a home screen and dragged I was able to move home screens around. The touch sensitivity feels It has changed in a way that makes this clumsy and cumbersome. I really had to press for a while and move slowly to get it to work. This was Nova 7.0, Android 11 and a 2 year old tablet. This continues to be a nuisance, it often feels like it is not working at all and I have to remember where to put my stylus and to do it relatively slowly.
