European vs Developer Edition variants - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

does anyone know which of the two get updates from HTC first? unlocked Developer Edition(BS_US002) or the unlocked European variant(HTC__001)?

If we look at 4.4.4, HTC__001 had the update 4 days before BS_US002 so I'd say Europe has the updates sooner. One think that I'm not sure about is the radios, will Europe radios work as well as the BS_US002 radios. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to that so maybe someone has a clear answer.

Yes, pretty sure Euro has consistently been updated before DE.
And whether the Euro radio works in other regions (North America) is a good question. On the 2.x firmwares, some folks in the US had issues with the Euro firmware. But for the latest 3.x firmware, I haven't seen any complaints yet.

I know I have 4G here in Canada, but is as fast as if I had the exact radios, I can't tell, I get 35megs per second and it's fast enough for me

i think it chops and changes, for the 4.4.3 update, dev got it first (when i did my conversion guide)
on m7 dev also got kitkat first
however, we all know what happened with 4.4.4 lol

Good to know. I actually thought (incorrectly) that Europe got the 4.4.3 update before DE.

On 3.28 firmware? If so, as I somewhat mentioned, I've only heard good things so far (about using it in North America).
On the 2.22 firmware, there were a good number of reports of issues, including no LTE or even NO SIGNAL at all. But again, may have been isolated incidents.

I'm back on GPE now, I was hoping that there would be an update, but yesterday I did the test with the 3.28 firmware and both the 401 and 1640 variants and I couldn't see a difference on speed so they both seem to work just fine.
Just for sake of peace of mind, I would probably stick with the BS_US002 variant because sure HTC__001 got 4.4.4 first, but BS_US002 might get L faster.

The other versions are region specific. There have been some minor updates to the ROM in other areas outside of the US (US being version A) that appear to not have made it to US as of yet. Once you are rooted you can apply any version ROMS as long as it states for the V500 model. V510 is the GPE edition which is different and not yet compatible.

Yes the v500 has an entirely different "structure" in the formating. SO while hardware is almost identical other than teh v500 missing the microsd slot and IR blaster, the roms are not compatible.
I have C installed on my A gpad. It just posts in german and you select english when you first install the rom and then just move on with your life.

[Q] what's the difference between 3.28.401.6 and 3.28.401.7

My cid is HTC__001 am I supposed to get 3.28.401.7?
I seem to be stuck with 3.28.401.6
Your question is what's the difference between .6 and .7?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56136303&highlight=3+28+401+7#post56136303
But am I supposed to get it or is it for another region?

Basically, .7 was a small incremental update to fix issues on Croatian networks. Otherwise, there really is almost no difference. Everyone is using .7 over .6 just because everyone here wants the latest and greatest.
Unless you live in Croatia, there isn't really any need to update to .7
Because I don't know what another region means when you haven't given us your region.
I guess Europe WWE. My CID is HTC__001

Any development support for HTC m8 Hong Kong/Asian variant?

Hi, Can anyone answer if international roms/custom roms will work with Hong Kong variant? I have recently bought it from a seller here, who told me that its an international variant, and that its not locked like Verizon M8, so, i decided to buy it and now, when i have researched about it, i have come to know that it has different processor altogether and that i may have to flash radio files in order to get it in working state after i am done installing roms/kernels.
Please help, as i really wanted a device with good dev support and i feel really bad as i think this device wont support all the goodies which are available in development section.
If it is a HKG variant with CID HTC__622, should not be a problem.
After you got it, make sure to do OTA up to 4.18.708.12 before you start modding it with custom ROM/kernel.
All the goodies which are available in development section should work fine on it as long as you updated it first.

Thank you, I have verified and it has same CID as you mentioned above.
Now, my question is: Can it be converted to GPE or flashed with kernels/roms found in development section? The processor is different as its AC variant of the MSM8974 Snapdragon 801 processor instead of AB variant of 801, will not that make it incompatible with those roms/kernels/etc? I suppose bootloader can be unlocked without any issues? Is there a guide or something which shows how to handle things differently on this version?

Everything will be possible and nothing needs to be handled differently. I have the 2.5Ghz Indian variant, same internals as you.

If you want to convert to GPE then you need S-OFF ! Otherwise you have to stick with custom GPE roms

i don't know, i do not have your phone ! Try it......it won't cost a thing if it does not work. The phone will be checked before proceding with the s-off process.
If it does not work i do not have any alternative ! So no s-off for you in that case........

so, after i s-off using sunshine, will it be back on by htc or it will stay that way unless i want s-on? What i have read about S-Off is that its only useful if i want to flash GPE roms or HK audio mod, which is pointless i think since m8 has good audio quality via headphones if you turn off boomsound, i mean, i am all for good quality audio playback but i am not sure if my FLAC collection will benefit from the audio mods since those work best on compressed audio files because of the restorative properties.

Once s-off it will indeed stay s-off until you give her commands to put it back s-on.
You didn't need s-off for GPE roms, only if you want to CONVERT to GPE with a RUU !
Audio mods i do not have experience with, mine is fine without it

Because you're looking at the wrong place.
Verizon, search in verizon thread.
Same goes for Sprint, search in sprint thread

For Verizon, really NO.
But I'm thinking VZN will update soon. It was scheduled for Jan. Which is obviously not the case, but hopfully soon. Sprint is now rolling out.

My warning applies only to Sprint and Verizon variants, which support CDMA (have different partitioning from non-CDMA versions). You cannot install other versions firmware to Sprint and Verizon variants.
You can install international firmware to the AT&T version m8 with s-off (may need to change the CID, MID depending on whether the firmware was hacked or not).

Hard to say, there isn't enough info to answer this definitively/properly.
If the version has a MM RUU, the easiest solution is probably to run the RUU (will wipe phone).

General Fixed: Lost root with Dec 2021? update Magisk

Updated manager is attached. Uninstall old manager, install the one attached and patch boot.img. Canary 23016
Yeah, root isn't working.
Yep. Lots of other people are reporting it as well. Hopefully the Magisk guys get it figured out pretty quick
No root here...
Hmm ... indeed ... lost root as well ... upgrade itself went fine ... followed process outlined in https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...thout-wiping-data-and-retaining-root.4356065/
Has anyone tried the image that doesn't say "US Carriers" ? i think ill try that one to see
I think I'll wait to try until Magisk is updated, and/or other users here report success.
I accidentally wiped a few days ago - I have a full root backup, but still a slight PITA. I don't feel like going back to unrooted too.

I certainly wonder what "12.0.0 (SQ1D.211205.016.A1, Dec 2021)" is. At least "12.0.0 (SQ1D.211205.016.A4, Dec 2021, EMEA carriers)" specifies what it's for.

I was wondering that myself. Give it a try and post your results. I doubt it'll fix the root problem, but who knows. The radio versions are different between the two. I'm guessing it has updates for the US carriers. I wish Google was a little clearer on which version is for which phone.

Root seems to be broken on December update / don't flash until it's solved
There is some talk in the P6 race to brick Telegram group, it seems that the december update is causing root to fail. So until this is fixed/solved, DO NOT UPDATE IF YOU WANT TO RETAIN ROOT.

I too used the u.s. carriers (it was an implementation of subwave on all u.s. phones I believe)

The model doesn't matter, it's a region thing. EMEA is for UK, Ireland, France and Germany (and maybe other parts of Europe as EMEA stands for Europe, Middle East and Africa)

I suspect it's labelled UK, Ireland France and Germany because that is where it is sold officially. You should probably be using EMEA but it might not make much difference.
