Version Type Questions - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I keep seeing these being mentioned
V50010a
V50010c
V50010e
I have
V50010a
Does this mean I cant use roms that list that they were based from the others? And whats the difference?
thanks! (man this is confusing lol)

The other versions are region specific. There have been some minor updates to the ROM in other areas outside of the US (US being version A) that appear to not have made it to US as of yet. Once you are rooted you can apply any version ROMS as long as it states for the V500 model. V510 is the GPE edition which is different and not yet compatible.

Yes the v500 has an entirely different "structure" in the formating. SO while hardware is almost identical other than teh v500 missing the microsd slot and IR blaster, the roms are not compatible.
I have C installed on my A gpad. It just posts in german and you select english when you first install the rom and then just move on with your life.

If it is closer to the V500 than the V510 then probably not, however I am not aware of anyone who has tried to do a conversion of this sort. The first thing you would probably need is a way to unlock the bootloader. Last I knew the V810 does not have an unlocked bootloader.

doesn't matter because we have a bootloader exploit
the partitions on the GPE are different, think it needs some work to be ported over, and you probably won't get LTE access
heck, my vk810 cm11 build still doesn't have LTE access yet... haven't made any useful findings
I don't care about LTE I just want stock kitKat

did you try my cm11 build then?
I probably can build AOSP kitkat for vk810 (with the same broken LTE/GPS)... let me know
I will give it a try !!

Quite a bit of work was done early this year to try to port the V510 ROM to V500. While the result was reasonably stable, it was unuseable because the developers could not get WiFi to work. Hardware & drivers were sufficiently different between the two devices to be problematic. You can find old threads in Android Development and in the General section.
I'm not trying to tell you guys this won't work. Just letting you know about some previous work.

Would it be easier to port a v510 rom to the Verizon GPad? I just want KK. I don't care about having aosp and I don't need LTE. I'm just using Wi-Fi.

The V510 has no custom ROMs available, only the stock GPE ROM. Which is pure AOSP. So I'm not sure that I understand what you are asking

Oh. I didn't know there were no custom roms for it.

[Q] which Roms should I be using? rogers note 2

Which roms should I be using as it appears there is no rogers specific t0lte Roms. There is an att and a T-Mobile one (as well as a generic t0lte) I don't want to screw something up and I've found various answers on google(saying different things) and I trust the people on here so I figured I'd just ask here. (Sorry if this had been asked before search wasn't working)

most of the time the ATT version (i317) should work, but if you just want to be absolutely safe check whether it supports Rogers (i317M).

Thank you very much.
Easy: all t0lte GSM/WCDMA/LTE ROMs are interchangeable. Modems and bootloaders are not.
I don't think CDMA (e.g. Verizon and Sprint) ROMs work out of the box but I haven't bothered checking.

Are modems not included in roms? And I didn't know bootloaders were changeable? (I may misunderstand what a bootloader is so feel free to explain)

Maybe: When in doubt, check the ROM recovery zip installer or Odin tar archive.

They're upgradeable, but that's not something you would be playing with most of the time, if ever. You wouldn't normally encounter this on recovery flashable ROMs, maybe on Odin packages. Look up aboot, tz, param.img and SBL for more details.

You'll brick your phone flashing firmware meant for another version of the phone. You can only use firmware specifically made for this device.

i want to know why the phone gets bricked when we flash some other version's firmware , is it some deep hidden hardware difference as gsmarena.com says specs are same only names are different (and possibly the firmware ).
is there a work around.
because in ideal case if hardware is same then software can be of any version.

"Specs" are the same but the actual settings/hardware used is different. VERY different. Everything is region specific and carrier specific. That is why.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LG_G2#Model_variants
Here you'll see clearer why they are so different.

so it means if we have the original kernal then other rom's can be flashed , in this case if LS980 have original kernal then D082 rom can be flashed .
Did you try it?

Any one tried this yet ?

[Q] Anyone tried flashing At&t roms on T mobile variant?

Any at&t roms work on t-mobile variant?
no they do not work.flash an att rom to an tmobile g3 and you will brick your device.the only way i believe it could work is if someone port the rom first, but i don't think is worth it since att and tmobile has pretty much the same stuff.but porting an international rom to the lg g3 tmobile thats something i would like to see soon

Older version works still but not the updated lollipop for obvious reasons. Not bad running if you are still running kitkat.

Guess if you don't read and just start flashing, yes, could be an issue. If you read before flashing you would see the faq section that says don't flash the latest on xxx devices but use the older version, exactly what I said.

Try out the Clean rom in the developer section. It is still Kitkat though but with the latest update and the bloat removed. I am using it and the only issue I seem to be having ISwith 4G not staying on after not using the tablet for a while. I have to reboot to get it back on but since you have no service that won't be an issue for you.
There's also a CM11 ROM for the VK810.4G. GPS doesn't work (nor the data but since you don't mind that...). The link for the latest version will be towards the last pages of the thread as it was made by someone other than the OP.
