If I installed PA on a LG G3 - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm considering buying the LG g3, but I wouldn't want such a large phone if I couldn't get Paranoid Android on it. But would that kill off the Double tap to wake feature?

sorry to break your bubble but currently there is no PA rom for the G3

I've read as much, but also read the bootloader got unlocked and people are rooting it left and right, so I figured PA couldn't be that far off? Or am I totally wrong? My only android experience is with a nexus 4 in 2012 :S

Yeah well, we can all guess what's gonna come and what's not. You've gotta wait till it comes, only then we can answer your questions.
Like the previous user said, there's no Paranoid Android for any G3 variant as of right now. There is an unofficial untethered custom recovery method available, which is called Bump, which the developers are eventually going to release a method to "bump" custom ROMs.
There isn't much wrong with the stock rom, it's better then Touchwizz at least.

PA up and running on G3

Clockworkmod Recovery v6.0.2.8 v1 for Optimus G Pro

Hello everyone. This is Clockworkmod Recovery v6.0.2.8 v1 for Optimus G Pro.
As you all know, it's 2nd-init recovery. That means if your phone bricks, only lgnpst will revive your phone.
First its how-to is same as the first one with small letters on it
1. Install application that I uploaded
2. Open it and Click 2nd-init recovery
3. Click Reboot recovery to see it worked.
As you know, we cannot change boot image. That will brick your phone.
And if you want to reboot recovery by pressing button, reboot it and you will see button flickering. Than you have to click any button. Fast.
That's all. And of course, you have to have your device rooted.
Thanks to: 985hPaKicK(WHO MADE THIS RECOVERY) and wkpark(who found out the way to increase font size, see this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30818456&postcount=8)

Yes, you can
Are we supposed to get a couple fc once we press reboot recovery? Seems to work great otherwise. I just wanted to make a quick backup before I start removing bloat.

I'd not remove the bloat if I were you. If your phone boot loops, there is no way into recovery. I'd just freeze the apps using titanium or something instead.
To answer your question, I get the force closes as well.

I didn't fully remove anything. I just renamed most of the at&t apps to .bak using root explorer. Now I have working WiFi tether and I'm all set!

I dont remove either. just freeze or disable.
I dunno who created this recovery but until we get a unlocked bootloader theres no way to use this if your softbrick or bootloop. The dev should look into implementing a timeout feature when you reboot your device. The moto phones have this kind of recovery with bootstrap and safestrap. We could use it until we crack this thing.

The problem is for some reason LG devices get no love from DEV's. Unless its a NEXUS. Its bull crap the S4 and HTC devices get cracks and roms.

Yeah ive noticed that. Im debating exchanging mine for a s4. Not sure yet. I have to have at least some kind of aosp or custom rom - kernel.
I'm going to remain patient, but for sure if I don't see any kernels fixing the phone's ability to render live wallpaper without lag I'll be sselling mine and buying the s4 developer edition. That is, as long as it still supports the remote control feature.

Why not just get a regualr s4? Once the bootloader is unlocked you will have aosp. Thats what ill do if i exchange. To be honest ive gone through the lg forums and aside from the nexus 4 these phones dont get much if any love. Shame as this phone is great and has great potiential. Shame i only have a week and 1/2 left to exchange if i have to. I dont see the bootloader being cracked by then.

I have an LG Nitro and there have been quite a few roms (most importantly official CM support) on our forums. I even installed the ubuntu test thingy on mine. But I'll have to admit I do get jealous of some of the other phones who don't just get occasion roms but regular releases of most of them.
welcome to the lg team guy....lolllll when i bought mine last week, one of my motivation was the fact that i"m not such a "flasholic"...so since for now we can root this thing and flash rom (stock rom) with cwm...a debloated rom will follow for sure, i"m positive!!! but dam, compair to sammy on DEV side...its like running in ferrari and fall in "mini" lollll
lg just entering in the "top" device with the g pro...even if the note 2 is 6 month old...its the first phone that i saw lg putting specification beyond sammy in phablet side.....:good:

Yea but it's top secret since you did not post this in the correct section we can not tell you
Nothing out there that is fully working... Still waiting
Sigh. The bad habit of posting before searching seems so much worse in the G3 threads than any other phone I've owned -__-

I was thinking the same thing until I remembered what the gs3 q&a section looked like. On any given day you would see the same question get answered about five times.
Nothing yet.
Items not yet working:
Camera
Bluetooth
LED Light stays on initially until connected to a charger.
Lockscreen will sometimes momentarily freeze on unlock.
With Lollipop around the corner I don't really see these things getting fixed just yet. I would put money on the fact that the devs are going to be more focused on getting a functional Lollipop ROM before spending a ton of time on working out these nagging issues.

Sorry to those of you that were angered by my original post, that was not my intention....But it sounds like we will see 5.0 by the end of the year. I just wonder how much LG will change it so I will probably root and install a custom ROM anyways.

You can always flash a stock based ROM once it's released too.
My camera is working so they should have it fixed soon

So Android 5 LOLLIPOP has been officially revealed...

...and will it come out to our GNex ? :3
The SDK is coming out on Oct 17 (Source: http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/10/15/the-android-5-0-lollipop-sdk-will-arrive-on-october-17th/)
I hope so, because of the new GPU drivers in the FML-ROM, we're "prepared" for it(?)
When the source code will come out I'm sure that the develepers will start do work on it

not sure if didn't read other responses, or just being smart-aleck
lulz
but...
it is a POSSIBILITY
NOTHING can be CERTAIN until source drops AND someone TRIES, but I'd have to IMAGINE that SOMEONE will be trying hard as HELL to keep this device rolling in development no matter how old it gets, many people hold this device dear to their hearts, it was one of the first WIDELY released nexus devices on MULTIPLE carriers including cdma. and even though it's a pita sometimes, we still have love for this ol girl, but right now, at this very moment, NO ONE can tell you 100% if it WILL run lollipop %100 stable or even what many would consider daily driver type of builds.
have I answered the question yet that's been asked a couple times and answered already just not in as many words? I'm NOT trying to be a ****, I REALLY would like to know if anyone is still confused about this situation?
you've tried really hard to be a ****, though
I haven't read others, I don't frequent this forum often, I'm not into custom ROMS.
I was just passing by asking this info. On this post there was nothing that explained the situation as you did. And there were no info on the first page of the Galaxy Nexus forum.
Thanks, it's a bit more clear. I'll drop by in a few months to see what's happening
Android 4.4 wasn't officially supported by Galaxy Nexus, yet we have a plethora of ROMs to choose from. I believe that 5.0 will be no different. It will take more time to get it to work because of the changes from other iterations, but we will get it. Not officially. Google probably won't give a hoot that there is a new driver, and just leave the device for dead. There is no money to be made from the amount of work that would have to be done. If it DOES get officially released, I'd be incredibly surprised.

NO ONE has said that Google will push ANY kind of official L update to gnex, when source code drops, custom Rom development will undergo to try and bring 5.0 based aosp roms to the gnex, which isn't unfeasible.

I heard of CM is not going to support galaxy nexus with lollipop due to the lack of maintainers. Maybe teams like PA might keep on with their supports. But I don't expect Gnex would run well on L coz it doesn't even on Kitkat. every now and then I see stuters and bugs . When I thought Gnex was dying and apparently showing its age, I flashed back to the stock 4.3 . The magic just happened and my gnex was brought back to life . yes the scrolling isn't as smooth as that on others roms but everything is fast especially when it comes to multitasking, it's great.
with that said , I mean even gnex is going get supports from some devs , what we could do with it is simply have a look at that and that will by no means be a stable and pleasant daily driver.

I'm looking to go back to 4.3 as well. Is it as simple as doing the normal procedures and flash a 4.3 rom? I heard of some issues downgrading while using 4.4 bootloaders and problems with SD card memory. Just want to make sure if there were any extra precautions you had to take before going back to 4.3

so for someone to build for toro/toroplus isn't too much to infer. I can't see NO ONE not building for gnex at Some point

No, there's not a single problem that i've seen. I just downloaded the factory Image and flashed it in fastboot mode.
but that will erase everything so just make a backup for your apps.
Funny that you say 4.3 runs well on your gnex because I've been running stock 4.3 for quite a while because I was fed up with trying to find the best custom rom and dealing with kernels and stuff.
4.3 runs like complete **** on my gnex and it has since I put it on there. It seems to get worse as time goes on though. I was using the Aviate launcher for quite a while but just installed the Google Now one to try that out and it seems much, much worse than Aviate in the performance department. I can be in an app, press home button and it will be close to 10 seconds sometimes for it to load, even with no apps present in the multitask/app switch thing. Blows my mind. I don't know why the performance is so bad.
I want to go back to android 4.1.2 because it's the only time I remember my gnex being quick.....but im having a hard time making that decision because of feature reasons.

It gets worse because the Java garbage colector is not doing what it's suppose to do and you have memory leaks so the memory gets full without a way of emptying it... To get around this, you need to restart the phone to empty the memory(usually daily or even two times a day). This HUGE bug is present onward since 4.2 for GNex, excluding 4.4 builds. So 4.1.2 will be best in that department.
But there is no need to go back to 4.1.2 to get this fixed (I couldn't bare it). Instead CM 10.1 has managed to fix the leak and you would be on 4.2 which is pretty similar to 4.3 and even 4.4 from the user end
I think Android 5.0 unofficially will continue.
There will be no further support officially. I "travel" too in different kit kat roms but always there were a bit of lag.
I return to cm 10.2 and my phone was brilliant, pretty quick.
Until recently that I install liquidsmooth that gone very fast for kit kat version.
I think now the kit kat versions will be enough stable. For lollipop, we will have to wait a lot.
we will see.
Source code just been released, so anyone working on, thx
I want cm lolipop!!!

Upgrading from rooted/rommed G3 to G4, but don't want to activate G4. Possible?

Advice Please:
I have a G3 with PacMan ROM and it's freaking sweet. However, my infrared/camera (which I use hundreds of times/day for work) is not working when I shoot certain types of materials (works on leather, blurs on cloth now). I was planning on just waiting to get the G4 when more ROMs were out. However, now I'm rushed to pull the trigger. So here's my question:
I want to not activate my new G4, but use it for work over wi-fi and continue to use my G3 for everything else (calls/texts). Since I had to order my G4 to get more GB, the Verizon rep is telling me that I can have the G4 and keep my service on the G3. However, they will need to 1) Activate the G4/Deactivate G3, 2) Deactivate G4/Reactivate G3. Will I have any problems reactivating my G3 since it's rooted and ROMmed? Will this cause any problems with Verizon? Will they even notice?
Also, If I'm able to do this... Can I go ahead and root/Rom the inactivated G4 and activate it once a satisfactory ROM is out (and installed on it)?
I know this is complex and doesn't do many people much good, so MANY THANKS to whoever lends a hand!!!!!
I hate being in this predicament... If only we lived in a world where all the ROMs were available to all carriers within the first month of release... if only... LOL

Yes, you can activate the G4 and go back to the G3, even with root. When you activate the G4 make sure you go through the setup process before you pull the Sim and install the Sim back into the g3. Wifi will work on the G4 without the Sim at that point. Done it many times.

I juump from ZTE Moto E prepaid G3 and the G4. works fine with a good standing sim.
Thanks so much for the help!
To push it a step further... Could I Root/Rom the new G4, and then return it back to Verizon in my 2 week trial period without any alarms going off? Would I just need to un-root and flash stock Rom before returning?
The guys at the Verizon store are so oblivious to android development that I wouldn't be surprised if they took a rommed and rooted G4 back without realizing it!
Unfortunately I don't think we have any roms for our verizon g4 and most likely will never have more than stock based unless someone unlocks the boot loader or comes up with another bump and I think they've about given up trying which really sucks cuz I have 2 of then lol

Well I put it like this, I have 2 g4's and 2 days ago traded one for a g3 vs985 and I'm still in utter shock at how much this g3 blows those g4 outta the water in every single aspect and I've tested this thing balls out non stop and I hated lollipop and marshmallow until now that I'm running resurrection remix 6.0.1..rooting and custom recovery were a single click each and all I had to do was flash a 35b bootstack and modem to get mm running. I can't stress highly enough how much you'll regret getting rid of the g3 cuz there isn't very much to advance to with Verizon for a modder like us. The way they lock down their phones is just evil and the g3 is a rare miracle for a Verizon device. Have you done a lot of flashing yet on your g3?

That's what I was afraid of, thanks for confirming my suspicions! I have been using the PACMAN ROM for over a year now! Which ROMS do you recommend? Also note: I'm just good enough to root and flash. I've never messed with kernels or anything else.
I've run into a few quirks with my PACMAN ROM, nothing serious though (except for my camera not focusing as well anymore). Maybe a new ROM is just the change I need!
THANKS

Man on the g3 there's more Roms than I can begin to find a good start, hell I just started going down the list on Android File Host just search vs985 and there's over 400 files to start with. A good tip is to get a copy of each Android version's bootstack, modem, and kernal zips on XDA or you'll get updater script errors from the base band being off. Most likely you'll only have to stick with the latest version cuz most people go up in Android versions, not me I'm all over the place and still consider JB and kk the best and my personal favorite. But the Dirty Unicorns mm rom has really stepped up and cool as hell , especially the unique nav bar. If you run into problems finding the right bootstacks PM me and I'll hook you up

Oh yea a new ROM changes everything but unfortunately I doubt the Verizon g4 will ever have much ROM action and I'd burn my g4 before I would my g3 without hesitation lol

Marshmallow over nougat? who still uses 6.0 !?

What's up everyone !
I just wanted to ask a simple question, who here still use marshmallow ROMs , which ones and why ?
The reason why I ask because for some time now I've been wanting to go back for xposed of course and other features like theme engines and so on.
Has anyone felt like this and ended up reverting back ?
Should I do it ?
Please let me know. Thank you ! :good:
Nexus 5x owner since July 2016. Still using Marshmallow 6.0.1 Stock! (No root, no roms)...

Woah seriously ? That's pretty interesting ? I'd have to respect that. With all the roms, mods and rooting I wouldn't be able to hold my stock 5x for that long. I'd go ape s*** !
I'm still on M, because i like xposed features, like gravity box, boot manager etc. I use android n-ify for nougat notification and Pixel navigation bar.

Nice. I'm thinking of reverting back. Which ROM are you using if I may ask ?

I just unboxed my 5x planning on staying on 6.0 was a long time apple user until I finally got fed up. If there is one thing that I learned it is definitely dont update until you can be sure that you won't lose any fucntionality (obviously)
Potentially looking to Root but still evaluating the cost/benefit. Learning some cool stuff. Just thinking about the possibility of apps that I use everyday not working.

Woah ! That's nice to know. Congrats on your switch and welcome to the wonderful world of Android. Lol
I totally understand about being fed up with apple. And tbh with updating android you will gain functionally but also lose abilities to use certain things such as mods and apps that haven't been updated. It can both be a win and or a lose. But not too major.
And for a new comer to an Android device I'd say stay stock right now. Get to know your device and read all over XDA on the potential and great things your device is capable of.
Once you get through that your first step is to root and then choose your ROM and mods.
Xposed will be your main go to for mods.
Thanks for you input BTW good luck on your new device ! :good:
I would go back to Android 5.1.1.
It is the best and most optimized version made.
Too bad NX5 goes back to only 6.0 as it was the first to feature it.

I appreciate this. It is a refreshing change from apple, whom in my opinion locks you into their singular way of doing things and users dont really have the freedom to opt out. New exploits are patched within days, old firmware stops being signed by apple within about a week so that once you update you can never go back. They are making things really tough for the jailbreak community, which is ultimately the reason I chose to switch. So far, I really like my 5x. Only issue I am worried about right now is battery life and not making it thru a full day. I taken measures in order to reduce power consumption, but theres only so much you can do as you know.

Still running Stock 6.0 not rooted,
Really wanted to upgrade to 7.1.1, Notification just sits there.
I am afraid of that whole Bootloop problem that everyone has been complaining about.

I would just go for it. The bootloop didn't affect that many people, and I thought they fixed it? A lot of people are running 7.1 now.

I'm still really afraid of it
I´m also using MM. AOKP is the only ROM I could get that applies Security Patches very often. And I will stay on MM until Xposed lands into Nougat
