Wait to buy? Coming from Nexus 5 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I am the owner of a Nexus 5 that replaced my first HTC One M7. I loved it for a while but I am getting tired of signal issues on Sprint. I was seeing what this forums opinions were. Should I wait until a new One comes out since I have an upgrade in February, or should I just go ahead and purchase the HTC One now outright and keep my upgrade? Or should I just stick with the Nexus 5 for the time being? Thanks!

From what I understand the "new" M8 coming out is just going to have the 13 mp camera. If that's worth waiting on to you then I say wait. I personally didn't care because the 4 mp ultra pixel crap is just fine for my usage. Looks good on the phone and is good enough for social media.
I just got my M8 about a week or two ago and it's still a top notch device and IMO worlds better than a Nexus device. I don't understand the obsession with those. Stock android is nice and all but sense 6 is a lot better than pure stock android IMO.

HTC one x and Google nexus 4

So we all know the news of the new nexus, the 16gb costs the same as the HTC one x if I sell mine. All of the internal specs seem great I'm not bothered about sd card, non removable and lte. I just wanted to know is anyone else was buying it by trading their hox in, I just care to know if the camera quality, screen quality, DAC are better then the hox because these are the main reasons why I would buy it since the hox has bad output speaker, battery life, overheats and I don't what a phone with a worser screen then my current or I'll feel like I've downgraded instead.
The camera that is used is a Sony bsi camera in the nexus 4, which is the same as the iPhone 5's. I do like the hox camera but it is behind the iPhone 5, s3 and lumia 920 in terms of quality and colour reproduction. I was watching the verge video which stated that one of the main people behind the nexus 4 said they spent a lot of time making it good at low light shoots which the hox suffers in. The one x+ is good too but I don't like the 40nm CPU and the material used as it gets dirty to easily. So what do you lot think is it worth the trade or are you happy with the hox?

N4 > HOX in almost every way. I'm definitely going to make the switch
I'm fed up with waiting for updates, stock buggy Rom, overheating and bad battery life.

I've only ever had HTC android phones (Hero>Desire HD>Sensation>EVO 3D>One X), before that I was using HTC windows phones, but I'm very tempted.
I am also so very tempted to do this, I really like the Nexus devices and I've had it with HTC !!
How would you sell yours? Ebay? And then purchase the Nexus 4?
What happens if I've got 16 months of a 2 year contract left? Could I just sell the HOX, buy the Nexus 4 and then pay the contract for the minutes? etc?
Yeah I'm trading...I think..well till I read the reviews
Partly due to aosp. Nice looking.
I'm not adding much to trade though.they can jog on

I'm going to try Gumtree first, then eBay then buy a N4 with the money.
You can put your sim into any unlocked phone and continue paying your bill as normal.
Hmm I'm happy with my HOX but I want the latest and greatest. The major selling point is that it is a nexus device.
I could recycle my HOX for £195 that wouldn't leave me far off the money needed, but I'm not sure its worth it.
My one X does everything I could possibly want at the moment.
If the N4 had LTE capability, maybe I would be completely swayed.

I'm broke, but selling my HOX should cover most of the cost
I absolutely love my HTC One X, it's a great machine,
but I'm unhappy what is happening in this device section.
People are ignoring forum rules, no respect among each other, moaning about the device, comparing it with other manufacturers and so on.
Jelly Bean rocks on HTC One X, battery live is awesome and the rom flies.
I've see the Nexus 4 video but I don't like the design of the machine and the OS has some new stuff but not so impresive to my opinion.
Anyway if I sell my HTC One X, I'm going back to Microsoft, the HTC 8x or the Nokia 9200 are looking great.
I still doubt to choose between those two phones because the Nokia has a Carl Zeiss lens but also the HTC 8x seems to have a amazing camera with new technology.
So probably one of those machines will be my next phone.
Shame to hear that Leo.
Hope you can stay with your One X and also you can get a W8
Cheers,

im with you buddy..selling my phone and going for the Nexus 4...will be my first Nexus so looking forward to it...just need to sell this bad boy first though
For me HOX is amazing phone. Solid in hand, looks amazing. I really do not understand why battery life is bad .. i am having 48h with daily use.. at some point even more. With that kind a battery and stock rom 2days+ is great, isn't it? 3~5% battery loss in deep sleep (night time) 8~10h.
Agree that Nexus 4 should be good, better than HOX performance/camera wise. Still like the looks of HOX more than N4.
For a quad core beast... what do you think?
The previous single core phones I owned even couldn't make a full day without charging.

Go for the Nexus 4. Any Nexus device is so much better than an hTC device. Always up-to-date sources, working drivers, best support. hTC just lost it along the way.
the sony bsi camera in the n4
the s4 pro dac
and the lg screen
three of the toppest specced components in android history. hell ya. too bad im poor

Just don't expect an HTC ONE X - grade screen.
On the Nexus 4, whites aren't white, more like very soft gray.
I have a Galaxy Nexus and am thinking of switching to a One X. Not sold yet, though, because of the device's speed and Android's ugly apps. Thinking of iPhone 5 (but am not rich so can't afford it) and Lumia 920 (same).

Upgrade from the GNex?

Hey guys I've been considering upgrading my phone to something better.
I'm currently using the GNex (obviously since I'm in this forum).
Are there any phones you can recommend right now that would be a good upgrade from the GNex? Or should I just wait until the Fall when Google releases their next Nexus phone? Presuming they are actually doing this...
People rave about the SGS4 but when I read about it seems very, very gimmicky.
Does anyone know for sure if Google is releasing a new phone in the Fall, or when specifically? I'm hoping it will follow the same price strategy as the Nexus 4 did, without so much hardware distribution problems....$300 top of the line unlocked Android phone...I'll be all over it this time because to me the difference between a GNex and a Nexus 4 was not huge...but this would be a 2 year difference now.
Just wait. You have the Note 3, Motorola X, possible updated HTC One, and other powerful devices coming. The Galaxy S4 and current HTC One is about to be obsolete in terms of hardware which is crazy.

If LG will make the new NEXUS ,then i would go for note 3 ,
Plz if anyone has any news about the up-coming nexus ?
I upgraded to the S4 and am 100% satisfied although I would advise you wait a little bit longer for the rumoured devices to come out.

looking at the motoX currently as well. For what it's worth, my dad just picked up the S4 and it is a great phone, but if you can afford to wait, you lose absolutely nothing. Don't like the Moto X, you can get the S4.
Well I just upgraded to the HTC one. It really is an awesome device, and sense 5 is an excellent skin. No lags or over the top intrusions like previous versions of sense.
The build quality is incredible. The most beautiful feeling when u pick it up in your hands. Premium. And it's a looker too. I won't even go into the twin front facing stereo speakers. They are something too.
Its the first smartphone I've had with a non removable battery as well. Battery is good for the average day comfortably.
I would say go for it. It's got excellent specs to match as well. 2 gigs of ram and quad snapdragon 600. Can't go wrong.

Yep. I did the same over the weekend. Couldn't be happier. All my friends either had the galaxy S3/S4 or an iphone, so I wanted to be different. I gotta say this phone is beautiful and very professional looking.
Build quality is great. Rooted and flashed a custom rom not even an hour after I got home. Not real big on Sense, but I can manage with it.
I still have my Gnex, in case I start to feel nostalgic and want to go back to that
The Nexus 4 is still a great device, and should be relevant for some time to come. Also, since you have a Galaxy Nexus, you probably aren't against rooting. Get an S4, or an HTC One, root it, and make it a Google Edition device. Or just flash an AOSP based rom on it.
There's always something coming out in the next few months. Figure out what features are important to you, and find a phone that matches those features.
if anything right now then I'd go with HTC One, or wait to see what the next nexus will be.

whats your next device?

still loving my n5x but im already starting to think of my next phone. at this point heres my options as i have to buy my devices full price, im on at&t go.
htc 10 ..once aosp hits.
one+3 ...because of the rumored specs, looks and $300 price tag.
wait to see what the next nexus will be "rumored to be htc".
what about you guys?
It's too early to think about it.
My 5x is fairly new so i didn't think about it really. Right now this is the perfect one.. oneplus? No, all oneplusses seems to have calling issues echo's etc.. i had a oneplus one, i loved it though except low 4g compatibility and call quality. Besides that, the 5x is my second Nexus and i never want a non Nexus again.

Never too early to speak of a new device. in 2 weeks ill be getting the one plus 3. Loved my n5x but its time for a new toy.

Upgrade to OP3 now or wait for the next nexus?

Im in sort of a mid life crisis. I currently own a Nexus 6 but I want a more beefy phone. The N6 is great and all but its starting to lag, battery is degrading, and the front camera sucks. I really like the nexus line and I have never owned a OP device. From the rumors im seeing the next nexus should be pretty damn good, so to all of you who own the OP3, are you happy with the purchase? Would you recommend buying it or should I just wait? Thanks!
I just got the OP3 and I was in the same dilemma as you. I like the nexus phones as the are pure android and will always get the security updates asap. But for me the current 6P is too big of a phone and has already been out for what, 9 months? You have to figure that going on past performance, the next generation Nexus phone won't be announced until Sept and will not be available until Oct. I didn't want to wait 4 months. Plus, the price is almost certainly going to be a lot more that $399. Having had the OP3 for a week, I know I made the right decision.
No mistake about it, if you buy the OnePlus 3 then you will be buying a premium phone. From the build to the cases, it's top notch.
Don't think that the lower price means a compromise. It's sleek, powerful and most importantly the OS is stable and well supported by the company. No bloatware..
When Nexus comes out you will be waiting for next Galaxy

I love Nexus but...
OnePlus really has done it with the OP3. It really could be the best damn phone ever! Build, OS and dev support is up there with Nexus and I honestly would say I like the OP3 way better than my wife's S7. Honestly. I love it. I have owned Samsung's, nexus and OPO, OP2 and now OP3 and this is by far the best of them all. And the cherry on top for me is OFFICIAL Slimrom support on the way.
Oh, and dash charge.. how the hell did I ever live with out it???
well I sold my 6p for this baby then will probably get the next nexus or whatever google throws at us. depending if it's worth it tho

Will you upgrade from Nexus 5X to Nexus Sailfish 2016?

The 2016 Nexus to come after the Nexus 5X is the Sailfish, it will be made by HTC, will have a 5 inch 1080p display, 4 GB of RAM, and possible the SnapDragon 820 or 821. The Nexus Sailfish is claimed to be coming with a 13-megapixel rear snapper and an 8-megapixel front camera.it sounds like there will only be a 32GB model for the Sailfish.
So will you upgrade or will you keep the 5X or will you go elsewhere for your 2016 phone?
First thing is price for me..next is battery

I made an upgrade to the HTC 10
HTC Nexus 5X don't think it will be cheap...
depends on price compared to other OEM manufacturers.
if its same price as OnePlus 3 then theres no point getting HTC Nexus 5X.
oneplus 3 you get 64Gb internal storage (UFS2.0 storage) with flagship spec's
how much will HTC Nexus 5X 64Gb cost?
Maybe next year...
Sent from my Nexus 5X using XDA-Developers mobile app
Got 5X few days ago so no.
Maybe if it has a compass that works all the time and not just sometimes I will!
I got the Nexus 5X at launch, and I plan to do the same with Sailfish. I really like the 5X, but I'm in the habit of upgrading every year.
No. The absence of front facing speakers kills it for me.
i got my 5x with the project fi enrollment deal making it 199. the price tag is the only reason i bought it, so probably not. i still catch myself wanting to repair the screen on my six and taking it out and about every once in a while.
Should've made this thread a poll.
I, for one, will be jumping ship as soon as the phones are released and there are some legit reviews that highlight their strengths and weaknesses. I still owe around $200 on my N5X but I'll pay that off and get either Marlin or Sailfish. Haven't decided which one, yet.
If the specs turn out to be true then yes. And I would like it to be called the Nexus 5P if it does as it would only be appropriate.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I'll get one of each (Marlin and sail), keep the one I like best, then offer the other to the wife. If she isn't interested then return it. I love this time of year every year!
Sent from my Nexus 5X using XDA-Developers mobile app
Unlike last year, I won't jump on the preorder. I might if the phone is attractive and has good battery life.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Nope. I cant buy a new device every few months. And besides, IDGAF if it has triple better specs, the 5x is smooth and customizable and has a good battery life if tweaked correctly. Buying a new nexus just for a few miliseconds of speediness or an hour extra of battery life is a waste of money IMHO.
Depends on physical size of Sailfish. I'm still using original MotoX 1053 with KK. Easily fits in pocket. Battery starting to exhaust earlier and earlier, so about time for replacement. Would love to have same phone with wireless charging and upgraded chips and software.
What does this mean? I don't understand this article.
http://motoringcrunch.com/news/2016-google-nexus-sailfish-marlin-wont-get-rooters-support/32008994/
We know that Google will be releasing two Nexus smartphones this year and that both these models will be made by HTC. Based on the details we have now, the Nexus Sailfish and Marlin are turning out to be a really tough contender. However, no matter how amazing it is going to be, the rooters will still not support the new Nexus devices.
The Nexus devices have always been a rooters go-to smartphone mainly because it comes running on the stock android and it is usually the first to get all the software updates from Google.
However, with the new safety system in place, the new Nexus Sailfish and Marlin will be useless to the rooters. According to Google, their new Android 7.0 Nougat will come with a new safety feature that will stop the device from booting up if it detects that it is being corrupted.
They also added that the system will only be available if the device comes with a locked bootloader so it is still possible for rooters to root the new Nougat OS, they just can’t do it with the Nexus
depending on the price.........
4GB RAM is so tempting to pass
