Since I first used the phone I noticed that it doesn't perform very well when it comes to picking up Wi-Fi signals. For example, the access point in my house is about 15 feet from the bathroom, blocked only partially by a column corner; with all my previous phone I'd get maybe 2 or 3 bars (at least), but with my P6 I can barely get one, if it connects at all. Everyone else (but me) seems to be able to connect to a given access point from the same spot. Aditionally, when connected to a Wi-Fi network (very close access point, of course), the symbol seems to very briefly dissapear and reapear again, I'm talking about miliseconds, but it happens somewhat often.
I've read something about radio bands, but I'm not really familiar with these stuff.
Is the P6 Wi-Fi antenna particularly weak or is it just my device?
I'm on B512, coming from B508, both firmwares perform equally bad with Wi-Fi.
i think it is the way the p6 is build up hardware sides..i have often the same issue..

OK so I've searched this a lot and really didn't want to make a thread but it's driving me crazy. My WiFi calling is rock solid all day and then from 6, 7, or 8pm till around midnight it constantly drops and comes back. I've gotten the red invalid certificate thing and reg99 (or 09). Whichever one IS NOT the 911 one, my address is up to date.
Is it network traffic at night or what?? My house has 0 cell coverage so WiFi calling is important. It's getting really frustrating having it drop and come back every few minutes.
I'm on frostyjb, but I think that's probably irrelevant. From the tmo forums it sounds like these issues have been around for a year or so. Does anyone have any advice, or tips or tricks?
Thanks.
Most likely its due to increased traffic on your isp. They probably don't have a very good uplink making it easier to run into these type problems.
That's my best guess seeing as it always happens at the times known for heaviest traffic.

I've been using Wi-Fi calling since it was first released on Blackberry, haven't noticed a specific time when it fails, seems to be random.
I will say each phone has had its own "quirks". the HTC Sensation wouldn't like to re-register to Wi-Fi Calling until it established a mobile network connection, pretty annoying
but I will say without a doubt this is the worst phone for Wi-Fi calling I've had to date. Samsung really needs to fix it. generally my issues include:
- One way audio (10% of the time, or more)
- "Digitized" voice calls
- Red certificate error
- WiFi calling just shuts down, in the menus it says "enabling calling", typically takes 3 - 4 minutes to come back up
- Dropped calls, typically due to above
- Wi-Fi signal drops, I have my router on my desk and I can watch the Wi-Fi connection bar randomly drop to 1 / 2 bars for a few mins then go back up, why? no idea. Doesn't happen on my Tab 10.1 or other devices
OVerall its an awesome phone if you have signal, but the wi-fi calling is trash

I am in the same situation and I assumed it was just my phone losing wifi coverage at least now I know im not crazy. I would assume its just something to do with the date turnover because it seems to happen at around 9pm for me which is midnight on the east coast.
I had the same problem, So first i would try updating the firmware for your router. If that doesnt work, Check to see if your router is a single or dual band. I had a single band Linksys, which gave me terrible reception, so I upgraded to a dual band and the problem is much better now.
I have a dual band router but I don't use 5g because its range is pretty bad. It has drop outs when I go in the bathroom and that's a big time use for me lol.
When wifi calling drops I still have full wifi signal and the Internet works. It really sucks because I have 0 bars in my house. I've seen 2 bars but as soon as I touch the phone I get the do not enter circle.
I'll try updating the fw to see if it helps tonight. I've read something about the security used can mess with it? I just think it's weird that its usually at a specific time. Ie the security settings is a cop out.
Yeah, I read that having mac filtering enabled or a hidden ssid can cause issues too. Check that out while youre updating your firmware. Edit: I also tried a factory reset, which you might want to look into. Also, try testing other kernals/modems!. Thats all I got for ya though. Best of luck

I blame tmo...
I ran a speedtest immediately to see if anything was suspicious. I still need to play with the router

I plan on flashing FrostyJB and Xquizit tomorrow. I'll let you know if I can replicate the issue on either rom.
Is it possible that having Comcast voice is somehow screwing up the internet? Like if tmo and Comcast are sending similar packets??
Not Only Me
Its nice to know I'm not the only one with this problem.
I updated the firmware on the phone, bought a new router; still have the problem... The little blue phone icon comes and goes, turns red. Seems to do what ever it feels like doing.
Will follow the thread for a solution.
Thanks to all for the effort.:good:
The last few nights have been a little better. With it usually coming back after leaving the phone on for a minute or so but it's still dropping every night. It really sucks for me because my house has 0 bars.
Im also having same problem where I live. I have no bars. I use Grove ip to make calls when wifi calling dosent work but I need wifi calling to send and receive mms thats the only down fall to grove ip

I have been having the same issues too. Not necesarilly at specific times, pretty much all times of the day. Specifically random disconnects in the wifi calling (losing the symbol all together, then it comes back spontaniously whenever it wants). Probably the most irriating is the one way audio which has occured EVERY PHONE CALL RECIEVED OR PLACED for the 1st time after about 10 minutes of inactivity (meaning everytime I make or recieve a call the one way audio happens and I have to call back or the other party must blah blah blah). And digitized calling is almost a guarantee on every call. All is well with router and wifi settings, no data/cell service inside the building at all.
This is my second GSIII (this is a refurb POS they sent me after my new one had a screen crack). After 2 week back and fourth they are replacing it Ill have a new one tomorrow (prob another dumb refurb) and Ill let you all know if the issue is resolved. My first GSIII (the brand new one I purchased when they came out) had no issues like this at all. Hopefully they replacement will shed light.
No one can hear me when I use it (8 of 10 times). I also never hear a ring. People are just on the line all the sudden. Sooooo frustrating.
Does everyone have this problem? If not maybe it's a router setting? Would be interesting to know.

I've had this. I was calling someone on Verizon and after some silence they picked up. Also if I call my phone from my Comcast landline there's no indication it's going through on the landline but my phone rings. I think these issues have been around awhile and tmo hasn't done anything. I wonder how we can get them to actually look into it...
Flood the support forums maybe?

Yeah I think we need to bring this to t-mobile attention because most of all that i've read on here, i'm experiencing the same. I've tried different router settings as well but, nothing has worked.

I tried dmz and opening ports that tmo has on their forums. Nothing worked.

I love this thing!
I've been troubleshooting as well. Looking into my router settings, I had my channel set to 11. I changed it to 1 and so far so good. I'll update as I go.
I'm just sayin!
First of all, I apologize if my English sucks, I've only studied it and never really spoken and to tell the truth I studied almost only English literature, so my vocabulary is a bit limited to that field and it's hard to use thiings like Shakespearian sonnets or Spencerian stanzas in everyday conversaton...
OK, let's go to the probIem... noticed the wi-fi signal on my international Optimus G (e975) is by far lower than any ther phone I tried before.
When I am in the same room of my wireless router, just 5-8 metres far from it, the phone already detects only 3 bars of of 4!
When I'm in my room, which is not where my router is, it detects 1 or 2 bars and it diconnects from wifi after 10-20 seconds. If I force it to reconnect, the connection is not bad for those few seconds till it stays connected, but it only lasts a few seconds and the LGOG decides to disconnects. I treid all of the wi-fi settings and a lot of apps to fix this issue, nothing happes.
I've never had such a horrible wi-fi radio in any wireless device, I tried with a lot of android, windows phone, windows mobile, iOS, windows 7-8 devices and all of them can keep connected in my room, most of them even in the flat behind mine, 1 floor lower, and absolutely no one had wifi issues so close to the router.
Any advice to have a more stabe wifi connection?
PS: I bought it a week ago at Amazon.it, I have 10 working days to return it and if I cannot figure it out, I think I will.
PPS: The 3g connection seems to be weaker than usual, too. but it doesn't seems that weak.
thank you.
Edit: I forgot to say, I had a Droid Razr before, it suffered from "hand effect", the signal dropped when the antenna zone was held, like the iPhone 4. well, in spite of that proble, even when the signal dropped, and belive me, if I took it the wrong wat it dropped a lot, the signal was way stabler and stronger than the optimus G placed on a desk.
Only have issues when I'm on YouTube it often mentions I lost signal... really weird and frustrating. sorry i can't help you. perhaps you have a broken phone.

No, I found the problem, it's a software bug, whn the wifi signal is low (1 or 2 bars) and the 3g/4g is on it auomaticcally switch the wifi off, so if I want to use it I have to switch the 3g-4g off. It's a very annoying bug, I hope they will fix it.
I recently reverted to stock on my at&t note 2. I am having wifi issues. The phone gets a strong signal from my router (-50) but I get authentication errors connecting if I am not very close. Standing 5 feet from the router I get terrible throughput. I am running dd-wrt and can see that the router is only getting -90 signal from my phone. Every other device is much stronger.
I have tried disabling wifi power save mode and have tried the OTA update to ucamh3 baseband.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
With a weak or malfunctioning wifi setup over multiple roms ....I might suspect a bad antenna ??
Not a for sure thing...but it should be considered...
Several of these devices were returned early on with antenna issues...
With a pure stock UCAMH3 rom running...wifi has been excellent...
I would try a clean slate data reset in recovery...and a router reset as well...
Then set up the wifi again on the device...
It's a long shot...but is certainly a good first step in diagnosing the device and the antenna...
Does the device suffer the same in other wifi areas ??
If not...look back to your home system....g

Thinking it might be a bad antenna, I ordered a replacement housing which (to my understanding) includes the WiFi antenna on the Note 2. No luck. I'm going to try another ROM to see if I have any better luck. If that doesn't work, might buy a new router. I'll update if I find anything that fixes my issue.

I'm on CyanogenMod now with no improvement. Router sees strength of -85 and SNR of 9 when I'm 5 feet away from it.
exact same issues here with i317. wifi worked great for about a year while rooted, and running multiple roms. i loaded SkyNote4.3 and it's been down hill ever since. I'm currently on DN3 4.3 and it works fine if i am close to my router as well. have S4, and Nexus 7 on same router, and they work fine with great signal, so it's not the router. I even removed security from my wifi as a test, and same results.
I have tried reverting to 4.1.2 and still no change. Appears to be SNR related at the moment, as my other wifi devices have 38-50 SNR values on DD-WRT, but my i317 has 10-12. No microwaves or any of that jazz going on, all 3 of these devices sitting next to each other when pulling values.
still investigating, but if anyone has any suggestions i'm open to ideas at this point.
what has been tried: reverting to 4.1.2 stock firmware from sammy, 4.2 bootloaders, 4.3 bootloaders, different modems, different kernels, different roms.
I got a replacement Note 2 from AT&T for this reason. I Googled the problem and found many mentions of it, so I called AT&T and had the CSR Google the problem while I was on the phone..
Of course I hadn't opened it up or anything...
I sent my phone to Samsung twice. The first time they just tried to update the software and claim it was fixed. That obviously did nothing to resolve the problem. I just got it back from a second visit to the service center where they replaced the mainboard. I haven't tried it yet, but expect that solved the problem. I'll confirm later tonight.
yeah, i'm to the point where i believe it's antenna related, and I believe it's on the mainboard. unfortunately it's over my 1 year manufacturer warranty and att is telling me they'd charge me the 200 deductible and just replace it. doesn't seem worth it to me at all. it's just odd that it started out of the blue with a 4.3 skynote rom.

I thought mine was antenna related so I bought a new housing. That didn't fix it. I read where one person bent up the contacts a little so I tried that and it didn't fix it. I never used to believe software would screw up the hardware, but I really believe some firmware has a bug that's pushes too much power to the wifi transmitter and damages it. That's just a hunch from a few posts I've read. It sounds like this may have happened to people with a Samsung OTA update.
If I were you, I'd log onto Samsung's site and just double check that you don't have any warranty left with them. If not, I'd even try chatting with them expressing disappointment in the device. let them know that apple geniuses would take care of you anyways. Maybe they'll be generous.. worth a shot.
So good and bad news. After getting my phone back from Samsung the second time, wifi authentication issues and drops are gone. The strength is good enough to keep me connected around the house, and speed is fairly consistent throughout the house, and is good enough for browser, etc. However, the speed still isn't up to par with other devices. I'm now experiencing 4-5mbps on speedtest.net (vs. ~20mbps on my other wireless devices). :/
I'm away at the moment, but I've come across a problem that my partners Galaxy S7 is not even phased by.
weak WiFi signal.
where I'm staying, my partners grandparents have basic Internet, just phone line BT so it's not brilliant in the first place (at least, not when your used to 150+mbps). And is just naff at WiFi signal. I'm on the same floor as it, not very far from it, and it's just weak.
But my problem is that my phone just gives up when I try to do anything "demanding" like a quick video or download a picture from Google drive. the phone just cuts off the WiFi. and I have no mobile signal whatsoever, so that isn't even an option whilst I'm in this house.
I know the m8 had similar issues on it, to the point where I could not even get back onto WiFi until I changed the SSID to something else.
I usually have no issues at home, so it's only really just a problem that's come to the surface. what I don't get is why I'm having these problems and my partners s7 keeps on going.
guessing it's just typical HTC quirk?

I love my HTC 10 but the WiFi on this phone is just plain weak... I'm upstairs and my almost 3 year old lg3 can do YouTube videos no problem, but my HTC 10 can't even connect.. Was hoping it was a software problem, but 7.0 update didn't fix it...I go downstairs and the HTC 10 works fine...all phones have problems... What to do!
g'day,
it seems the WIFI after pie update has become substantially deteriorated. as such, the connection on any given wifi spot seems like a dried bed creek whilst other phones on the same experience river like streaming! even if a connection is established (before it drops suddenly and frequently as well) it is juts pseudo as there is no data transfer!
per my read on other posts herein XDA, there is no real solution at the moment. motorola's annoying silence on this issue is also remarkable.
all in all, is there any way (I am still hopeful to find one) to overcome this phenomenon, i.e. flashing some other radio rom, etc.? otherwise, do I have to accept the ugly truth and bury the phone?
cheers.
