I recently reverted to stock on my at&t note 2. I am having wifi issues. The phone gets a strong signal from my router (-50) but I get authentication errors connecting if I am not very close. Standing 5 feet from the router I get terrible throughput. I am running dd-wrt and can see that the router is only getting -90 signal from my phone. Every other device is much stronger.
I have tried disabling wifi power save mode and have tried the OTA update to ucamh3 baseband.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
With a weak or malfunctioning wifi setup over multiple roms ....I might suspect a bad antenna ??
Not a for sure thing...but it should be considered...
Several of these devices were returned early on with antenna issues...
With a pure stock UCAMH3 rom running...wifi has been excellent...
I would try a clean slate data reset in recovery...and a router reset as well...
Then set up the wifi again on the device...
It's a long shot...but is certainly a good first step in diagnosing the device and the antenna...
Does the device suffer the same in other wifi areas ??
If not...look back to your home system....g

Thinking it might be a bad antenna, I ordered a replacement housing which (to my understanding) includes the WiFi antenna on the Note 2. No luck. I'm going to try another ROM to see if I have any better luck. If that doesn't work, might buy a new router. I'll update if I find anything that fixes my issue.

I'm on CyanogenMod now with no improvement. Router sees strength of -85 and SNR of 9 when I'm 5 feet away from it.
exact same issues here with i317. wifi worked great for about a year while rooted, and running multiple roms. i loaded SkyNote4.3 and it's been down hill ever since. I'm currently on DN3 4.3 and it works fine if i am close to my router as well. have S4, and Nexus 7 on same router, and they work fine with great signal, so it's not the router. I even removed security from my wifi as a test, and same results.
I have tried reverting to 4.1.2 and still no change. Appears to be SNR related at the moment, as my other wifi devices have 38-50 SNR values on DD-WRT, but my i317 has 10-12. No microwaves or any of that jazz going on, all 3 of these devices sitting next to each other when pulling values.
still investigating, but if anyone has any suggestions i'm open to ideas at this point.
what has been tried: reverting to 4.1.2 stock firmware from sammy, 4.2 bootloaders, 4.3 bootloaders, different modems, different kernels, different roms.
I got a replacement Note 2 from AT&T for this reason. I Googled the problem and found many mentions of it, so I called AT&T and had the CSR Google the problem while I was on the phone..
Of course I hadn't opened it up or anything...
I sent my phone to Samsung twice. The first time they just tried to update the software and claim it was fixed. That obviously did nothing to resolve the problem. I just got it back from a second visit to the service center where they replaced the mainboard. I haven't tried it yet, but expect that solved the problem. I'll confirm later tonight.
yeah, i'm to the point where i believe it's antenna related, and I believe it's on the mainboard. unfortunately it's over my 1 year manufacturer warranty and att is telling me they'd charge me the 200 deductible and just replace it. doesn't seem worth it to me at all. it's just odd that it started out of the blue with a 4.3 skynote rom.

I thought mine was antenna related so I bought a new housing. That didn't fix it. I read where one person bent up the contacts a little so I tried that and it didn't fix it. I never used to believe software would screw up the hardware, but I really believe some firmware has a bug that's pushes too much power to the wifi transmitter and damages it. That's just a hunch from a few posts I've read. It sounds like this may have happened to people with a Samsung OTA update.
If I were you, I'd log onto Samsung's site and just double check that you don't have any warranty left with them. If not, I'd even try chatting with them expressing disappointment in the device. let them know that apple geniuses would take care of you anyways. Maybe they'll be generous.. worth a shot.
So good and bad news. After getting my phone back from Samsung the second time, wifi authentication issues and drops are gone. The strength is good enough to keep me connected around the house, and speed is fairly consistent throughout the house, and is good enough for browser, etc. However, the speed still isn't up to par with other devices. I'm now experiencing 4-5mbps on speedtest.net (vs. ~20mbps on my other wireless devices). :/

I really need some user commentary here as I have tried vigorously looking into my connectivity 'flimsy-ness' lately.
I have a GNex LTE version
this is fast...when it is fast.
However, wifi drops at times. and 4g if the reception is lost and reverts to 3g...it never goes back to 4g even in zones where it obviously exists, needing to be corrected manually.
It is very nerve wrecking. such an expensive phone to have such issues.
My question is, does anyone else have this? (im on 4.0.3)
should i return this and ask for a replacement? maybe this is defected.
Please help out as time is running out for a replacement at verizon
THANK YOU AND HAPPY NEW YEAR
I got hit by the Verizon outages and outside of that, I had some cell data connectivity issues twice. However, I have not had them since the last outage. (Also after changing ROMs both which are 4.0.2)
My father was visiting and got hit by what you describe and fixed it with a power cycle and hasn't said it occurred since.
How often does it occur for you?
To be on the safe side and so you don't miss your window, you may want to exchange.
A lot. The wifi is absolutely terrible. It does not stick. And turning the phone off with having put on the always on thru advance wifi settings it still turns off. I can not and will not risk it. Talked to Verizon made them express mail another gnex. I'd rather take my time and compare then go to the store and chuck this and receive another. One this is for sure. If the other one has the same problem. I will be very very sad. I love this phone (plus I have the unlimited plan..switched with my gf...and MAN Is it nice going over 10gb already)
I hope no one else has this problem. Really curious to know.

Mine is solid. Holds wifi, holds 4G. The problem you are talking about has been brought up by others. Look around on this forum and you'll see it has talked about. People have had luck swapping out for another and others haven't. Looks like there are simply some out there with issues and you got one. They do not all have this issue. There is an OTA update coming with 4.0.3 soon that MAY help. You might just want to swap it out. If you do, don't leave the store until you know it's working.

I have had the same router for the last 2 years, my nexus S never has had any sort of drops on wifi like this.
This is without a doubt a serious problem. I will be now doing more thorough testings with the 4g reception followed by the 4g dropping to 3g and seeing if it ever reverts.
I pray to god this is a software issue. but to be honest...having had all nexus's (nexii?) i have never had a reception issue or had an update that improved it...so im sort of freaking out now
I'm having this issue as well. It will help if you change the wifi policy to stay on always. Hit menu inside the wifi options.
I had the same issues and returned mine. I hope it gets fixed, because I loved everything else about the phone and want it back, but not at the expense of poor data reception.
on a NEW one that was sent...SAME PROBLEM.
ALREADY HAVE THE ALWAYS ON POLICY.
....this is some scary S*$T!!!!
I have had wifi issues with specific routers. I have 2 Linksys wrt 54g with latest firmware which frequently do not connect despite having a strong signal. I have a router in the micasavrde home automation controller that connects fine, all with wpa2 security. The wifi at work at 2 different sites works fine, but I am not sure what routers are being used. I think this is mainly a software issue with certain routers and may be fixable. Maybe we need a thread documenting people's experience with routers with no issues and routers that have problems .

I'll try to be succinct here. I got a replacement Nexus from Asurion when my screen cracked earlier this month. Incidentally, this was also around the time I started flashing Jelly Bean ROMs rather consistently. I have been experiencing (what I would actually refer to as) a crippling issue where my phone's signal will just completely drop. As in, no calls, no texts, no anything. Mobile network connection is gone. And while it does do it in my apartment, which has shoddy reception in the first place, it's doing it just as much when I'm in the middle of Best Buy, or a bar, or anywhere with FULL 4G. It will simply go from 4 bars to no service and then back to 4G (once the radio presumably cycles).
Do you guys think this is a hardware issue or a Jelly Bean issue? I've run two different ROMs overall (Jelly Belly and PARANOIDANDROID), so I've hit both the CM10 and non-CM10 ends of the spectrum and they're both doing it, so that leads me to believe that it's not a specific ROM issue, but either an overall Jelly Bean issue or a hardware malfunction. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have the same issue with my phone. I have actually gotten 3 new phones only to have them all do the same thing. I flashed to Jelly Bean hoping it would fix the issue but no luck.
Sounds like a hardware issue. I have flashed many roms, ICS and JB and all are good for reception. Once we got new radios 5 months ago it fixed my 3g to 4g handoffs when I would lose data for minutes if not an hour. All good now.
It's common issue for Google nexus. I am also having same problem. You may ask a replacement or switch network mode to "CDMA only" instead of "LTE/CDMA".

It happens to my Galaxy Nexus too. >_<
Happens to me too. From HSPA (which should bei constant high-quality in my area) down to 2G, and if I am in areas with bad coverage, it looses signal completely.
Finally, after several ROMs, and basebands haven't fixed it, I'm going to send it in, as soon as possible now.

This is a hardware issue. I515.10 is the one I have and it does this as well, the I515.9 however does not seem to be affected. The .10 was made in china and the .9 in korea... or maybe the other way around, hell who cares... Bottom line is, its a huge issue that samsung should have addressed long ago.
For more info check out the samsung forums. I'm waiting on a replacement to come Monday.

This is happening on mine too. I installed the stock rom on my Verizon GNex and the signal has deteriorated significantly, almost like 4.0.2
I'm hoping a fix, or the new binaries fix this issues and put it back to it's 4.0.4 state.
I am still plagued by this. Anybody know of any fixes in the works? I have exchanged my phone 4 times to no avail.

It's an issue with a certain batch of phones. All the ones I had that had issues were either manufactured in January or February (says 12.01 or 12.02 under the battery). I was finally able to get a new replacement at a Verizon store thanks to knowing the manager and it was just manufactured in July (12.07) and has worked like a charm (except a single stuck pixel in the upper right-hand corner, but I don't see it unless I'm looking for it, so I'll deal).

That's strange. In my experience, it should either be screwed up totally or not at all. It shouldn't gradually onset. You sure it's not a ROM and/or radio issue this time that's just exhibiting similar symptoms?

Was this an OTA uprade? If you did an manual upgrade, you should make a backup before going forward.
Are you sure you used the correct ROM? Cross-flashing between a Toro/Maguro/Toro+ will often have the phone but up but with the radios not working
did you check your apn?
I just bought this phone on Thursday and the bestbuy rep had the same problem on two different phones and had to call the Verizon help desk. She managed to get it working and of course my signal went in and out as soon as I left the parking lot. I went home and immediately rooted and flashed 4.1 and had the same issue. I was on the phone with tech support and they couldn't find the problem.
I then did a quick search online and found that this is a common issue. The problem is that when updating to 4.0.4 the galaxy nexus has a hard time with the 4g connection. It then drops to 3g and then it realizes 4g is available and switches back just to start this never ending cycle. This causes a signal to be held for seconds at a time before dropping completely until it switches to the other.
The temp fix is to disable LTE and run your phone on CDMA full time. This worked for me and I have constant signal everywhere. Eventually I know a patch will arrive so I'm content with 3g for the time being.
What puzzles me is how come this doesn't happen to everyone? Its a big enough issue that I found the solution within 3min of searching for a fix but not big enough for Verizon to be aware of.

I have the same issue. it burns your battery as well by switching back and forth. I used to leave my nexus uncharged at night and the sleep mode would allow it to only lose a a few percentages but now if i leave 4g on with 50 percent battery.. Its almost alway dead when I wake up
Sad to say I have the same experience
The story told by mclaughlin47 is almost exactly what happened with me. Even rooted and running BAMF Paradigm 2.1, I still have the same problem. If anyone knows of a way to fix this, please let us know.
I can't believe Verizon isn't aware of this problem. I actually had better battery life and signal with my Thunderbolt running Vicious ROM. I may just be returning mine if I don't hear of a solution soon.
Thanks for any help, cause this is ridiculous!
I am rooted now, but even on stock ICS I was getting a problem where my radios just die. Requires a reboot to fix. But when I was seeing it, they always looked fine. You don't know they died until you try to use data or make a call.
Do you still have your imei

I saw the same issue with ics and jb roms. Tried several radios but always dropped data and voice when using 4g. From what I've been reading, it's a hardware defect.
Mine also works great and stays connected all the time when I leave it in cdma mode. Went back to my rezound since 3g mode there at least still let's me use data while talking on the phone. I like showering in as much radiation as I can

Reflash the radio and the cdma radio. Samsung and Verizon Wireless both claim that hardware defects are not known issues.
Which hardware revision do you have? (looks on the label on the back should be 11.11, 11.12, or 12.0.)
i have 12.01
will try reflashing the latest radios

Have the same exact issue...just upgraded to a jelly bean Rom and my data drops completely and I barely have a signal, did a super wipe (radio-rom-Gnapps)...and went to my old rom of ICS and I still have the same problem...but for the most part I barely have any type of signal and calls are dropping, called Verizon and they told me something about a switch, and that there is no problem in ur area....I just called last night, I'm gonna call back today...wish there was a solution ...also tried that 3G switch I just read earlier and I still have a poor signal
Any updates? I'm having the same problem
Hi,
I'm having the same issue. I've had my Nexus for about a month now and have had nothing but horrible signal issues, while my old Droid 2 gets fantastic signal.
I'm using the latest Bugless Beast 4.1.1 with the latest radios that were released today.
People have mentioned it being a hardware defect. I'm assuming I should just go back to stock ICS and go into Verizon and exchange it for a different Nexus?
It may very well be a hardware problem, but my thought was a SIM card problem for the reason that rebooting often does not solve the problem for me. I have a passcode on my SIM card, so if my phone doesn't ask me to enter the code then I can assume it doesn't see the card. This often happens when I encounter the loss of data problem and reboot, and I usually have to remove the SIM card and fiddle with it a bit and put it back in and then it reconnects.
So I went to the Verizon store to try and swap my SIM card and they wouldn't give me a new card, saying that it's a known software issue that Samsung has already attempted to fix twice and they are working on another OTA update. I obviously made a ruckus about how I'm paying for service I can't access and I want a different device, blah, blah, blah. Basically he was incredibly unhelpful.
I've been on ICS AOKP and recently switched over the CM10 JB and that's when the problems started for me, but I switched because some type of battery issue (it lasted about 3 hours for a few days) caused my phone to reset itself and erase everything so it seemed like a good time to upgrade. So I may have unique hardware issues going on but according to vzw it is software-based. I'm not sure if this is something that can/will be addressed in a new nightly if that's the case.
PEOPLE, IT'S NOT A HARDWARE PROBLEM! IT'S SIMPLY A RADIO.IMG PROBLEM! A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO IS ON ICS, BUT FLASHED LATEST RADIO ARE SUFFERING FROM THIS!
What you can do is just flash to a older radio image. Not that hard. Will this stop the OTA? Probably, but you can either flash the latest version back or just manually flash it.
Have a good day.
I got mine the first week of Aug at Best Buy. The first one I got had all the problems described above. Radios dropping out and dropping every call I made. I returned it the next day, and the sales guy told me he was 100% sure it wasn't the phone. I asked him to exchange the phone and the card because I couldn't use a phone that couldn't make calls. He did the exchange, and the second phone was actually worse. Most of the time, I could not even make a call. So, the next day I took that one back. They gave me a third one that worked great for a week, then I started getting a no SIM card error message. The phone would reboot and work again for about 3 hours, then repeat error message. I took the card out, wiped down all the contacts with a soft cloth, and I have had no problems since. Great reception, no dropped calls. Great phone. I don't know if it is hardware or software, but I would keep returning the phone until you get one that works!
Once again, what is the point of having a phone that can't make calls.
I recently moved in to a new apartment for college and unfortunately my signal is very poor while inside the building.
This is really the only place on campus that I don't get great signal unless I get close to the window and pray that my phone decides to connect.
I've briefly looked into possible solutions but wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions/opinions on what I should/ could do.
I briefly looked into the Sprint AIRAVE, which I should be able to get. However, unless I can get it for free then I really don't see it as a viable solution, especially since my contract is up soon and I can just move to another carrier.
At this point I see my options being:
1. Get the AIRAVE.
2. Purchase a 3RD party signal booster (If cheaper than Sprint one).
3. Come up with some kind of DIY solution
4. Change some things on my phone in the hope that it improves.
5. Switch to another carrier.
What do you guys suggest doing/ think is the best option?
Are there ay other options I've missed?
Current Setup on my Epic 4g:
Rom: CM9 STABLE build from 8/10
Kernal: Shadow v0.6.3.3
PRL: FC09
I suggest option #1: Call Sprint and throw a fit, and have them provide you an airave
You may be better off with option 5.
The Airave is more of a cop-out solution for Sprint and their craptastic network. However, if it works for you then by all means go with it.
I've been with them for over 10 years now and haven't seen much network improvement in my city in the last 5 years. There are big patches of dead and weak signal spots all over. Hell, I can step outside my office building and find a dead spot in one 5 foot span, then move out of that span and be in a 3-signal strength spot.
I'm waiting a bit longer to see if their network will improve in my area. Otherwise, I will most likely jump carriers.

My family has used them for about 10 years total, with a brief break when we lived in england. I've never really had any problems with getting signal where I needed it before now. But yeah, at this point they better make a good offer if they want me to stay with them.
So I called sprint, they wanted me to go through some troubleshooting stuff and ended up asking me if I was rooted.
I had a bunch of back and forth with him and he claimed that being rooted/not on stock caused my phone to show no "vital signs" and that even if I am using the proper PRL it doesn't matter. Everything he said sounded like a bunch of policy stuff and he never gave a clear explanation of why it mattered if I am rooted. Anyways he said I could restore to stock/factory settings and then he would call me back latter and we would troubleshoot stuff.
I am going to be doing the flowing:
1. Backup everything
2. Odin back to stock (non-rooted + update)
3. Go through the troubleshooting, even though I know it won't make a difference.
4. Hopefully get the AIRAVE for free.
5. Go back to my current setup.
I've also noticed that turning 4G on may actually make a difference in signal (Since there is 4G in atlanta).
Does anyone have in thoughts about this?
Am I wrong in saying that being rooted has NO effect on connectivity?

If you do anything with Sprint that involves troubleshooting, you should be on 100% stock. Also, never admit to rooting, even though there is that PDF from internal Sprint mail around these forums saying it's basically okay for customers to be rooted. It's way easier to just get back on stock and step through troubleshooting, than dealing with a script following CSR on the matter.
It takes an experienced flasher all of 3 minutes to get from stock back to previous setup or a new custom setup. So not a big deal.
Turning on 4G is an entirely different radio; hence you would have differing signal strengths from 4G to 3G.

4. Change some things on my phone in the hope that it improves.
5. Switch to another carrier.
What do you guys suggest doing/ think is the best option?
Are there ay other options I've missed?

Maybe try the nexus modem and see if that improves signal. Some people say it has and got rid of dropped calls. Samsung is notorious for making awful modems, but Google made the Nexus one, so it is better for me and most people who have tried it.
I know really shouldn't have admitted to being rooted but I think I kind of wanted to argue with him about it, just to see what kind of reasoning they give.
And yeah, flashing back to my previous setup shouldn't be too hard. I already know for a fact that going to stock won't solve the problem,
I'm still testing the 4G thing since I can't really confirm if it is actually boosting the signal or not.

@xboxfanj: I thought about trying that the other day. I have to be on a CM7 rom to use it, correct?

Now there is a patch for CM10 as well. Nothing yet on stock or CM9.
Yeah I noticed that. I tried switching to PA1.99 and using the nexus modem but it didn't have any kind of effect in my apartment.
So I odined back to stock fc09.
The Sprint rep called me back, I told him it didn't have an effect (because it didn't).
He agreed to send me the AIRAVE at no charge so I should hopefully have it in a week or so.
After I get it all setup I'll update this thread with details as to whether or not it actually solves the problem.
Now time to root my phone again...

Hopefully it'll be compatible with the touchwiz framework. Does anyone know where I can find the mtd tw device source?

Received the AIRAVE today. Took a little bit of fiddling to get it setup right.
I now get pretty consistent signal, generally 5 full bars, throughout my apartment.
My only real complaint is that it decreases my internet download speed from over 100Mb/s to around 40Mb/s.
The decrease is unavoidable since I have to use the AIRAVE router functionality in order to have it and my computer hooked up.
However it did seem to increase my upload speed by about 5Mb/s once I increased the limit it had set by default.
It also seems to causes me to receive texts twice but that may have just been a one off thing.
Overall it has solved the issue and since it was free I can't really complain.
The double text is an occasional thing and probably will never happen again. I hooked my airave to my router instead of the modem as suggested and it works just fine and does not interfere with my throughputs.

This is how I have mine set up and it works perfect.
Mine is setup so that the AIRAVE connects to the wall and then to my laptop (it's probably hooked to a router/modem somewhere but it's dorm internet so I have no control over that).
It would probably be faster if I hooked it through a separate router but I don't really want to spend the money on one, and would need a pretty decent one since my school has one of the top 10 fastest internet connections in the country (if I had to guess number 3, behind the pentagon and google fiber).
Hello guys, I'm new on the forum, I am the owner of HoX for the past 5 months and so far I'm really glad with the phone. Everything worked very well until couple of days ago when I started to get strange problem with WiFi. Problem is not common HoX wi fi problem with signal bars. The thing is, when I connect to my router which is located in my room and when I'm in the room signal is full and everything works fine, I get full speed on the phone and everything is perfect. Problem begins when I move from my room to my living room or any other room in the house, then I still get pretty decent signal (full bars or one bar below full) but data transmission just doesn't work, I can't open any page or anything. The same thing happens with all apps using internet like Playstore etc.
Before I got this problem, I could normally use WiFi even when I get out of the home and signal and speed was just perfect. I am now writing you from my notebook via WiFi and I'm located in living room, while two walls and two doors seperate me from the router and I still have almost full bars and full speed. I had the same thing with One X. I could use WiFi anywhere in the house or even around the house.
I tried to connect to other routers as well in the other places and result is the same. I tried connecting at my University, at my friend's home and same thing occurs.
If anyone has or had the same problem please answer me and tell what to do, phone is just 5 months old. I still have year and a half warranty on it, but I'm not really patient and I wouldn't like to give it for a repair cuz knowing my dealer they wouldn't provide me with a replacement phone. :- Phone is unbranded HoX bought in Europe in November 2012.
Thanking you in advance and sorry for my imperfect English, I am from Europe
EDIT...
I forgot to say that I tried to power off/power on phone, I tried "Best Wi-Fi performance", and I also unticked the Auto Disconnect option and no benefits at all.
I just read the first 3 lines...
Send it to HTC-Care, they will install a spongy-pillars inside your phone, this should fix your WIFI.
More info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688538
Suggestion: You should post your question/support in the help section (or in Hamdir's OT thread ).
Good Luck.
Thank you very much for quick response and for the suggestion (I'm new on the forum so I hope so you'll forgive me)

I am afraid that's not the answer.
I have faced this problem with my device and HTC in-fact recognized the problem only after i captured a video of the behavior and sent it to them.
The local service center has not heard about it and they escalated the issue to Taiwan. Even a motherboard replacement does not solve the problem.

For me this behavior was irregular and not easily re-producible by the service center guys and hence i resorted to sending them a video comparing my HTC to another one side by side.
They did not have any fix for the solution. I would suggest you do the same as i did. They will choose to give you a temporary loan phone or a replacement phone.
Good luck.
I've had this on both my Desire and HOX and it's usually fixed by switching on mobile data. Doing this seems to remind the phone that it can see the internet and all is well again (it still uses the wifi rather than mobile data).
Thank you all for help. I tried to turn both Mobile data (3G) and WiFi, but same thing happens, and also I began experiencing a lower signal on the same distance from router than I had before.
For example, I had 2 bars before If I was in my living room which is separated by two walls and two doors from my room where is my router located. Now I barely got one bar or sometimes even a dot. So now I'm pretty sure that this is hardware related problem, anyways, there is already a topic about this problem so I will post my enquiries there. Thank you all for help
Did you by any chance got a software update OTA? Check your version number and let us know!
On the road using my HOX
Reply
Hey, thank you for reply. I took two screenshots and this is my software info. BTW. I tried factory reset but that didn't help, problem still exists. As far as I can remember I did have some software update a while ago, but can't really remember what exactly. Here are the screens:
Unfortunately, I'm new user and obiviously I'm not able to post pictures here, but I will write what it says.
Android version:
4.1.1.
HTC Sense version:
4+
Software number:
3.18.401.1
HTC SDK API level:
4.63
HTC Extension version:
HTCExtension_Sense45_1
If you need more info like kernel, baseband etc let me know, btw. phone is not rooted, everything is still original (stock rom) and I haven't even tried to root it, or do anything about it, since when you root your phone, you can say goodbye to your warranty.
yea i see...it's 3.18 you have to update your phone to 3.19 and see if issue with wifi still persists...if yes it's hardware fault if not it's fixed by updating...got to settings/about/ then software update or so and download and install new update..
not for all things warranty is away after rooting
Thanks for reply, but how can I update it, cuz manually it won't work. When I go for software updates it says that there is no updates available for my phone?
EDIT...
I found this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2226098 and some guy says that it will, among other things, repair WiFi reception...
Let's just hope then, that this is some kind of software issue )))
then go to settings and apps and there are those google framework things etc...then clear their cache and reboot
and from google play store too
3.19.401.1 which fixes the WiFi issue is not yet available. I hope we 'll get it soon! I bet that's why you have poor WiFi reception especially since you told us that before you didnt experience any issues at all!
On the road using my HOX
Thank you for replies.
@Ivanovic that's true. I bought HoX in November 2012, and so far I'm really glad with the phone. Haven't had any negative experience, in 5 months it did restarted once or twice on its own, but other than that, everything was pretty fine until recent WiFi problems.
If I had a common HoX WiFi problem, I guess I would have bad signal even 1 centimeter from the router...
Let's hope this update comes ASAP and I hope so it could fix this, if nothing, I still have year and a half warranty on it, but it would be pretty damn hard to explain them this sort of problem and I am afraid that they wouldn't fix it properly.

I had some problem with wifi, the connections were full but the was no data transfer.
I set my router to use B & G channel on, and it works great now.... Just try it, there is no harm in it.

Well, all my wi fi devices work fine on my router except One X. I tested my fathers HTC One V and I tested my notebook computer and they are both working fine. My Wi-Fi reception on One X is significantly reduced since when I go away to other room I got one bar, or even one dot but sometimes I get two bars and no data transfer. I can't remember If I had this problem before 3.18 update, since I don't really use my phone's wi-fi much out of my own room. I first noticed it at my University and at same places like coffee bars.
I don't see why would I have to change router settings, since my router was set up roughly a 6 months ago and everything worked fine including One X. Now One X is the only one which makes troubles.
I sent an email today to HTC with enquiry about this problem and they suggested me to try WiFi from safe mode. I did that and the problem still exists. I tried factory reset and I tried to clear Google framework cache like "One X master" mentioned above. Everything to no avail.
I've never dropped the phone from my hands and it doesn't have a single scratch on it cuz from the day one, I've been keeping it in protective rubber case. Only thing that I'm afraid of is heating during normal use over time. My phone definitely doesn't heat too much, cuz I'm an average user, I mostly use it for facebook, whats app and calls/sms. I don't play a lot of games on it, especially not some really demanding that could heat phone too much, but could just phone's material expand over time during use and heating, so that it causes some parts of WiFi antenna to separate or something like that?
Anyways, I hope so they release 3,19 soon, so I can try with that.
Here is my thread....

But your problem would be solved with new base of rom....
If rooted, try custom rom...

I tested it really hard for a couple of last days . Tried everything and anything that is possible. From factory reset to safe mode, to various apps and options and to no avail.
However, today I noticed that when I connect on my WiFi while I'm near the router I will have full bars and full speed, and as I'm leaving my room and going to other room signal is still decent and I get decent speed, but the if I just make couple of more steps in my living room from the entering doors to living room signal will go to one bar, one dot and eventually disconnect and it will not be able to connect again from that place, so I have to go to my room again where is my router or in the hall and I will connect again and that's how it is going.
I didn't try to root phone nor I will root it until my warranty expires. 550 € is so much for, by all means overpriced devices, I mean in general. You pay them that much for phone and it is still able to screw you up, especially when I'm almost sure that my problem is not related to One X common wi fi problem with squeeze test.
However someone mentioned that next update 3.19 will fix "Wi-Fi reception bug", but I couldn't really find what to they mean by that. Do they admit that there is some kind of issue here with software, or they will just "improve" Wi Fi reception for the devices that are working normally.
Today, I did a factory reset from the bootloader mode, and first 10 minutes after the reset everything was working fine, I was really excited, but then after some time, things didn't go so well, so I got problems again. Connected but no data transfer, or connected but after some time disconnect...
I'm really pissed of. Don't see any logical explanation why would it work after factory reset from bootloader mode, and then fuc* me up again.
I received new 3.20 update today and after some time spent testing WiFi it seems that WiFi is working perfect, just like before. So far so good and I hope so it stays this way. You can lock this thread if you want to. Thanks for help
