I accidentally imported sim card contacts along with contacs i had in vcf file so i wanted to clear them all and reimport. To do so, i cleared data on contacts storage and contacts apks. Now when i try to import contacts from vcf file, it says success, but none of the contacts are imported, i tried multiple vcf files and same thing. What to do? Factory reset isn't an option. Please help me asap, i need those contacts.

Happens to sony phones for no reason... Go to your contact settings, and select "filter", and check "all contacts".
Thanks a bunch, that's probably the last thing i would try.

If you have contacts synced to Google, restore them, if you haven't, upload vcf file to Google contacts and just sync from cloud...

I recently restored data to my phone haveing re-flashed it. I used PIM Backup to restore a backup of phone numbers, calendar entries, appointments, logs etc etc. Then I synced my phone with my computer (of which I have outlook installed which has my full address book within the app).
Following the sync with outlook (and PIM backup), i now have 2 of every phonebook entry in my phone! arghhh! What can I do? I have about 200+ phonebook entries (thus 400+ now), so deleting the duplicates one by one is crazy.
Any help, software or advice guys? (and how can i stop this happening again should I reflash, re-restore and re-sync with outlook?)
Thanks.
from PIM backup delete all conacts then re-sync again if u have the contacs in outlook if u dont have then just after deleting them restore the backup
Where is the option to delete all contacts in PIM?

Oh, I hadnt realised it was so simple, Thanks.
Sorry to be a noob but I cant think of a valid way to backup all my contacts on my phone and also any other data stored on the phone memory such as email account.
I have a problem whereby when my phone is set to vibrate, it doesn't when receiving a text message and I have tried all settings to make it, but to no avail, I have been advised to reset to factory settings to restore this back to normal.
Any ideas people?
Your contacts should automatically sync to the Google servers if I'm not mistaken?
How do you mean? auto sync? are you reffering to the Sync mode on PC, or just by using the phone and using the internet google would take a copy?
Desire does auto backups for specific things, not for contacts though (if you are not syncing)
To backup your contacts manually go to People - > Menu ->Import/Export -> Export to SD card
Hi sorry to revive an old thread, but how do you then reinstall the contacts after a factory reset?
Edit: Ignore that, People - menu - import export - import from sd card!
hi all
i used the "backup contacts" app to create an csv file from my contacts before flashing my arc
now i see no option to restore the file to my phone except for importing my contacts to gmail first (a thing i don't know exactly how to do AND i don't want to do due to security considerations! i never trust google!)
any way, another similar app "Contacts Backup Pro_2.5.1" didn't recognize my csv file which i'd copied in sdcard directly as the software had asked
do u know how i can restore the csv file to my contacts?
thanks in advance
go to contact menu, press menu button, choose import contact, choose import from memory, it will scan your sd card for contact file
but...
but it says it can't find any Vcard contacts. I saved my contacts on a CSV file. So what do I do?
If you didn't trust google you wouldn't be using Android. And in future make proper backups.

If you did backup your contact to memory card, it must be found unless u format ur card
The other way is go to account & sync setting, click on your account, choose sync contact if your contact are already saved on google
Hi, I have recently flashed my Desire with Gingerbread and I'm having problems with syncing my contacts (people) with my google account.
Before I did the flash I backed up my contacts onto the SD card. I then did the flash and set up my phone with my gmail account. I then restored my contacts from the wrong file on my SD card (a much earlier backup). When I realised that it was the wrong file I erased my contacts and recovered the right file. Now google won't sync my contacts, it just says "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." I tried to remove the google account, but it won't let me as it is 'required by some applications'
Any suggestions on what i could do to fix this (apart from a full reset)
Import ALL your concats to googlemail directly, e.g. via webinterface. Then go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All, scroll to contacs app, clean its data and cache. Then sync again. Should work.
Thanks that seemed to have worked
Don't forget to use the thanks button.
SwiftKeyed from CyanogenMod with Transparent XDA App
Ok I think I've done it right lol!
