[Q] LG G3 Resolution decreased to 1080 after replacing full LCD Screen!! - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

after I changed my cracked LG G3 LCD Screen with an original new one bought from eBay, I found that the resolution is decreased to 1080 on a 2K video on YouTube which I used to watch it on normally, then I thought it might require factory reset, but problem still on.
Please Help me.
p.s: Can I know with another way if my screen resolution is 2K (1440) other than YouTube.

Youtube app lost the ability to play 1440p with latest update.
There is no 1080p panels for g3, and software is set for 1440p.
You definitely have 2K panel.

CPU-Z isn't accurate, the display is 1440x2560 not what its reflecting which doesn't make sense.

I'm pretty sure it is a YouTube bug
Its the same for me too

Actually, it is accurate, it reports actual screen estate, as such, it is 2437 which is the screen minus the top and bottom bar.
Or at least that's how I understood it to be.

That makes more sense, but does it do that for other phone with on screen buttons? I can try hiding them to see if it makes a difference. I don't recall the exact dimensions of the bar.

as you see in the previous picture
in the upper part of the screen there is a less than 1 cm bar thick, which is much whiter than the rest of the screen and there is a smile face and clip icon on the right of that bar
its identical to whatsapp chat bar
the problem is that this bar is like a back light on the screen its showing in the screen where ever you are at and its so clear to see on a white or gray back grounds its even noticeable on CWM , its so annoying and defecting the beautiful screen of my note 2. :crying:
cant seem to understand how or why that happened
could it be that my screen is a defected unit ?? cuz my brother's note 2 is just fine
right now i dont know what to do i asked a mobile's repair shop for new screen and he said it will cost me 300$ (its half price of a new device)
here is more pix
*note : it may be no so clear to see on those pictures but in real its so clear and ugly

so the only solution is to replace the screen with new one right ???
and do u think that the one year guarantee that came with the device should cover this ??
thanks all for helping
i make up my mind
the screen is so annoying cant live with it and even the colors tune is less brighter than it was and more yellow-ish i started to hate the phone cuz of the screen
and the new screen will cost me 300$ and its too much its almost a price of a new mid range android device
i decided to sell it and buy HTC one but not so sure
i will think about it and do some researches on the HTC one and see if it is good enough
damn you samsung you always disappoint me with your super amoled problems

Anyone else potentially a bad screen? - Note7 just got it

I just got it yesterday and I noticed on a lot of screens it looks like bad rendering follows it around. The most noticeable is under display settings, mid to low brightness. When you change the screen mode it shows it in some modes very clearly. Does anyone else see this? I will try to upload a picture.
I uploaded a video to youtube, you can clearly see the issue on the left side of the screen:

My phone does not look like this at all. Your screen may be defective, i'd suggest an RMA.

Cool, Thanks Let me contact Tmobile and see about the RMA
Both the violet streak and the lines that come up when you change the brightness points to a faulty display the exact same issue with the S7 and S7E
Can you guys check your tapatalk app in night mode. Mine looks washed out in the left bottom corner. Is that normal on yours too? My note 4 does not look like this.

It wasnt that, it was messed up colors showing up on the screen based on constrasting areas of the screen. THeres a video in the first post and another here where you can see the issue. This doesn't show up in screenshots I send to the computer so I know its a display problem.

My Note 7 had similar purple / pink hue on all around the edges. It's not so pronounced and I had to argue with the service adviser before the accept for warranty claim. Went in for RMA today.
International version. Sorry, didn't capture any video or images of the defect.
Thisis what i see a greenish wahsed out screen with dark gray.

Really dim screen?

Hey guys I have an Eonon GA6163f
Which I believe is a klyde unit? Here are the specs on it
MCU: MTCC-KLD6-V2.97
android 5.1.1, 1024x600, and the RK3188 CPU. Currently flashed with Malaysk Rom
I've enjoying this unit so far except for one thing, the screen is ridiculously dim. Even at 100% brightness it's almost unusable during the day. Is there any way to install a new screen? Or some kind of hardware mod? It's not that bad with anything white, but anything black is horrible and I can't see it during the day from my angle.

These units have a very limited viewing angle. I believe that's the main problem. I suffer from the same problem. Need to have the seat in high position
to be able to view the screen correct.

This is the calculator app. Its a dark UI, and you literally cannot see it during the day. And I know its not the screen being off because the status bar is up there, and if I stick my face right up to it, I can see it lol
The screen should not be that dim.
Do you have any screen filters installed or any xposed modules that modify the brightness. I use one, can't remember which, that adjusts brightness based on sunrise and sunset. It also allows the times and brightness settings to be adjusted manually. Check yours.
I have no other suggestions beyond that.

Nope, nothing that modifies the brightness. I had the same problem on the stock ROM. That is 100% brightness!
Fault then. Either the screen or in the video processing

I bought it off ebay, but it has screen burn. It was advertised as excellent condition, until I saw burn. Got it for 180 and around over 6 bucks for shipping. Seller was OK if I returned. Wondering if it'll get worse.

I have a keyboard screen burn on mine it hasn't gotten worse but on a white screen you can see a whole keyboard.
use a screen burn remover app. They actually work but it takes more for amoled displays i noticed. I remember having one that would flash the whole screen r,b,g,w and you were told to set the screen to max brightness just so it warms up a bit.

Display size and battery life

Was just wondering if in settings when you change the display size from default to small, does it make a difference in battery life?

I don't see why it would.
Unless you change the resolution to 1080p or better yet 720p, there shouldn't be any battery savings.

I was wondering this too. So you're saying changing the display size won't affect it since display size is not the same as resolution? If so it does make sense since the screen is still pushing the same amount of pixels when you just change the display size. It's just that if you change the display size to a bigger size you're just zooming in (or out if you make the screen smaller), and not actually changing the resolution.

can someone explain how changing the resolution somehow magically creates this "power savings" ?
the same amount of pixels are still being powered despite your resolution settings.
the only difference would be the graphic ui renderring and even that would be minimilistic / neglible and not screen related.

From my understanding you save power, and by saving power you save battery, when you change resolution by going from say 1080 to 720 because what happens is the device shuts off pixels to decrease the resolution. So less pixels in use means using less power thus saving battery. Changing the display size through settings just zooms in the icons/text, but no pixels are getting shut off, so there's no power saving going on.

Your later point is correct from what I have read. Less CPU/GPU resources since the area to draw is smaller. Savings is not in the screen, yup.

but the same amount of pixels are being powered on right, i dont get when people say that the pixels are 'powered off'....
