[Q] Odin issue - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried to install new software with odin but my pc shut down during the process. Now the phone shows a message to recover with kies but I can`t connect with computer. When I try with odin I get a message "can not connect with stock COM port". Can someone help me to recover the phone and get it working? Thanks!

hey,...
i am trying to root my tmobile galaxy S2 and i am in downloading mode...put recovery.tar file in PDA section and when i hit start...nothing happens and after a while i get failed notice and says " Can't open the serial(COM) port." what am i doing wrong.
Did you install the usb drivers first? If not here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?6onrjbyd46j4lhj
that could be the only reason i can think of that odin isn't detecting phone. Also try a different usb port on the computer, and if that doesn't work try a different cable.
uninstall Kies if u have ut because the drivers stick i did and now it works lol

I too was having "Can't open the Serial COM". Kies was interfering.
Go into Kies, Tools -> Preferences, unselect "Run Samsung Kies automatically when a device is connected", save the change, close out of Kies, and then restart ODIN 3. Try flashing now.
reinstall drivers with KIES. go to troubleshoot and then you should be good to go after. also check the cable too..

I had the same problem and I fixed it by exiting from Kies software. You might get this new error "Complete(Write) operation failed". Then all you should do is just pulling your battery out and restarting odin and phone. I disables the firewall too, but I don't think the problem was firewall. Anyway mine is working well and I did it.
Hi, I'm also having the same problem. The 'Charging paused...' message kept popping up so I tried to flash a different official rom via odin (I was on official ICS). Unfortunately the flash failed and now when I try to turn on the phone the 'Firmware upgrade encountered an isuue......' message comes up. I tried connenting to kies also but can not to do so. I have hope as i can get into download mode but can't flash a rom. I got halfway once then suddenly it failed again. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Thank You.

The phone needs to be in download mode for Odin. And kies shouldn't be running on your PC. Go to task manager and kill any kies processes.
Download mode on the phone as I remember is power button and volume down.
?
If anyone is using Odin to flash 4.1.2, I found either Odin 3.04 or to be the only ones that worked for me.

Try different Odin versions perhaps. Uninstall Samsung drivers and install the newest kies again to reinstall them. Don't need to uninstall kies , just be sure all its processes are killed in your PC task manager.
There's nothing you can do until your phone and Odin are communicating. Try another cable, try another USB port on your computer. Last, try another computer.

Try everything I suggested. Otherwise, I'm out of ideas unfortunately.
I'm curious, what does your phone show as in device manager in pc when connected? Or is it not being seen at all?
And Y Duos? You know this is the Tmobile S2 section, right? ?
Lots of Y Duos bricked talk here as well as other links in this thread to review.

[Q] [help] bricked?

I have searched the forum and used google, but i havent seen this question so i ask it here...
I have a phone in front of me that I rooted and unlocked the SIM, after that i gave the phone to my dad.. The problem comes now, he used samsungs FOTA and it failed.. Now the phone cant boot, and i cant get into recovery mode.. it tries update and gets to like 50% after that i get the msg "update failed 0x800000D1" if i remove the sd-card it just tries to look for it, and if i move the fota directory or the file 2400258.cfg, it just load for a second and then try to boot the ordinary way..
and the second problem is that i cant use odin because the computer wont recognize the phone not even with Kies or sammobile drivers so the download mode is gone to..
Before flashing Odin need to destroy all of the processes on the computer Kies.
Sorry for my english -_-
The problem is that the phone isn't recognized by the computer, been trying different drivers, so thats why i can't go that way. if i check in Device manager on the phone there is no ID for the phone so thats why it cant be used with the computer i think..
bump?
Try to install this drivers on your computer and then try to reflash a firmware with odin

[Q] Firmware Upgrade Encountered An Error

My device is soft bricked. Booting it returns the error I wrote in the title (picture at http://androidcentral.us/2013/09/how-to-fix-firmware-upgrade-encountered-an-issue-on-kies/). However I can't use the solution given at that link because Kies doesn't connect with my device (it's stuck saying "connecting..."). And I can't use Odin because I have a Mac (or mobile odin because my device is bricked). I tried using Jodin3 (http://casual-dev.com/2014/01/04/jodin3-web-browser-or-offline-flashing-tool/) to flash the kitkat tar file I found on Sammobile.com, but I've encountered loads of errors in it and it's just not working.
Any help you could offer would be much appreciated, again with the considerations that I only have a mac, not a PC. Thank you so much.

[Q] USB stopped working after failed odin flash

Hi, I recently tried using a stock image with odin for my galaxy tab pro 8.4. Odin started flashing but failed when sending system.img.
I tried this process twice and got the same result even using a different USB port in may computer and a different cable but, after the second try (and as the first one I disconnected the computer and restarted into download mode), the tablet usb stopped working.
When I connected it in my first two tries, I got the typical windows sound when you connect anything in the usb, now I dont get anything and not even in the device manager. I tried with another computer and got the same problem, no usb connected sound and nothing in device manager.
My device is now stuck in odin mode. If I try to reboot normally I get into download mode but with the message "Firmware upgrade encounterd an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again".
I have tried deleteing de drivers and installing kies but still nothing.
Can you help me please?
Nevermind

For anyone facing this, you have to wait for the tablet to run out of battery and then connect it again to the computer. It will be detected as before.

*HELP* An error has occurred while updating the device software.

So I was trying to get the beyond rom on my device, As I was currently flashing through Odin for the rom. I'm not sure what happened during the process of the update but odin shut off on its own and cut the update off. Now I have a message on my device saying " An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency Recovery Function in the Smart Switch Mode. ".
I downloaded the smart switch software on my laptop and now the program is saying it's failing to connect to the device. I've reinstalled the samsung drivers tried many different cables not a single one has worked on my device and I've tried a different laptop too nothing has worked.
Really need some assistance on this.
Just flash stock rom with odin.
No need to panic, put yourself back to download mode, reflash firmware with odin
If you can't get it back to D/L mode (like it was in my case), maybe this helps. Mine is a S10+, though. YMMV for an S20xx
An error has occurred while updating the device software
Hi! So my phone is stuck with the "an error has occurred while updating the device software" and that screen only shows when i charge my phone with wall brick. If i try to connect my phone with usb to pc nothing happens. Even if i try to enter...
