Hi guys,
This morning I powered on my tab, then, after reading some news, I closed the cover lid and when I came back after some minutes my tab won't turn on or charging. Battery is full (charged over night).
I tried power + vol + home: nothing.
My tab: 8.4 lte rooted with Odin, Samsung v2 Rom
What a strange coincidence! Mine too!
My Tab S 8.4 LTE turned off after a complete descharge. I've attached it to charger, without turning it on, and charge beguns.
After a couple of hours I've checked the tab but I've found it completely turned off, no charging animation on power button. I've tried to turn it on but without success.
I've a SuperSamsung V2 ROM also.
What's the f..k????

Thanks God, I've resolved with this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/help/to-event-soft-brick-disaster-t2838473
1) connect the tab to PC;
2) press Home, Vol Down and Power simultaneously up to a screen appears;
3) press Vol Down to cancel and reboot the tablet.
Now the tablet has rebooted and it works fine!
When I'll be at home I'll try...hope it will work for me also...have you some random reboots while in standby in the past days?
No chance for me...
My Tab S 10.5 Wifi running on stock rom is at reparation center because of the same problem...
Well...After two days...I think the problem is something wrong in battery. My tab was fully charged when this issue happens for the first time. After leaving it alone on the desktop for a day, this morning I connected the tab to my PC for around 30 minutes and the charging battery appears on the screen. I charged for 20 minutes and after I let the tablet discharging. This evening battery was 8% and my tab went to black unresponsive screen. Now I'll try charging to full and after clearing battery stats to see if something change. ..
@kraoc please let me know reparation center diagnosis
Mine has repeated this behaviour several times in the last few days, I've always solved with the procedure in the post #2, but now it keeps irritating. @kraok please let us know diagnosis. @davidebeatrice I don't think so since it has just happened to me while using the tablet with 70% battery.
I was 99% when it happens for the first time...now my tab seems T9 work fine. Let's see when battery will be down down down...?
After two charging-discharging process and finger crossing, I can say that clearing battery stats worked for me.
Hello, I've a similar problem. My rooted Tab S with TWRP doesn't boot anymore, it's stuck at the Samsung logo. However I can get into download mode or shut it down and the loading animation shows. Probably caused by some root stuff I installed because it worked fine before. Any way to fix it via Odin or some other ideas?
Thanks!

If you have access to download... just flash stock rom...
I've had a similar problem:
Screen shows a discharged battery and I can't do anything to it.
No button combination works, plugged or unplugged.
After a while (days) it shut off. I couldn't turn it back on until plugging it, and then the same battery discharged display shows up.
I took it to a service center and they blamed the motherboard, but I had a custom ROM (a version a Cyanogen found here). No fun.
EDIT: FIXED!
I retrieved the tablet before they serviced it, and attempted to repair it myself again with the button combination.
I used the home + vol down + power combo, and then I pugged it in. It went to download mode, then I pressed vol down to restart the tablet.
Method similar to this (but without the need to restore my backup or flash anything):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/help/to-event-soft-brick-disaster-t2838473
Hope this helps someone else stuck in the same situation.
I had teh same thing happen to my 10" Tab S as well. Took it back to Spring and they immediately replaced it since I had only had it for 7 days tat that point.
Glad you had a new one... And I'm a bit jalous about your issue
Had it for 2 month... Got 2 reply from Samsung: "rooted and can't use warranty" !
But: Flashing your device does not void your statutory warranty - FSFE Legal - http://j.mp/ZIPbWC !!!
Samsung keep to refuse to apply warranty !!!
Hello everybody,
I've sad news from my side...
I've had this problem a few times and I've everytime resolved with the home+vol down+power combo and restarting.
After that I've found evidence on another thread here in XDA that it should be related with battery stats.
After resetting the stats, the problem stopped, up to yesterday night.
I was watching a video on YouTube where the battery goes 0% and the tablet shutdown itself.
So I've attached it to charger and the charge begun (tablet was off, battery charging appears on screen).
This morning I've detached it from charger without checking if it was 100% charged but when I've tried to power it up, I don't get any reaction from the tablet.
The key combo doesn't function anymore. Attach to PC via USB doesn't make it to get recognized. No way out.
Completely dead.
Have you some suggestion/trick I can try before I'll launch it through the window???
Thanks
Antonio

This worked for me, thanks a lot!
Blap017, thanks for your tip!!!
But how can I reach the battery? Has anyone instructions for that?
However I don't think that this is my case. As I've said before, yesterday I've attached the tablet to the charger and it begun to charge.
But I can try your tip, if only I'll found a way to open the tablet.
Thanks!!!
Google how to fix the screen or something of the like..... ifixit usually has a tutorial and the first couple steps will.be removing the batter

Thanks again for your response, blap017
I have good news, however.
Today I've reattached the tablet to the charger and it gets charging.
I've leaved it up to full charge, then I've turned it on and it now it functions well. Thanks God.
But I don't understand why this has happened. Perhaps the SuperSamsung v2 rom messed up battery stats...
Thxs everybody for the support, xda forums are ever a fantastic source of inspiration!!!

Hi,
I'm having the (common?) problem, that the power button doesn't work any more. You can press it as long or often as you want, it doesn't do anything.
So -- big mistake -- I took of the battery and tried to restart. But the power button seems to be broken (hardware), so I now cant even turn on the phone to make it connect to e.g. adb...
Is there any way, to get the phone (without using the power button :/) able to talk to the adb / fastboot interface? (or better, boot it completely)
Need to get some data off it before sending it in for replacement..
thanks !
take the battery out and plug into usb (connected to computer). put the battery back in and when you see the battery charging on the screen remove the battery again. On mine the battery image starts flickering. at that point i put the battery back in and it rebooted.
This has worked for me a few times. Once rebooted you will be able to see your device using adb and then fastboot.
i got the idea from this post but found the timing i used worked better than his random attempts while holding the x key on the nexus one.

I've been searching the web for days looking for a way to turn on my Galaxy Nexus without using its broken power button, and your timing trick got it working. Thanks!
Thank you, i searched for a whole night during my night shift for this and it worked, lets hope i won't turn it off again :fingers-crossed:
Rooted?
If you have a rooted phone you can use AOKP ROM or any other roms that has volume wake in its settings. If your kernel supports it you can do what I did and use PGM Nexus from the market, basically what it does is let you lock and unlock your screen by swiping from left to right and right to left for each action (it keeps your touch controls on even when the screen is off and it doesn't use that much battery ) Hope this helps.

Is there some trick here guys? My phone has a busted power button and I need to get some data off it before repairing. I've tried this timing method but it doesn't seem to do anything. A charging icon shows up, I pull the battery and replace it, and then the full icon shows up and eventually disappears.
if you go to the phones main settings, security, lockscreen, then press none, youll be able to wake the device with the volume buttons. its a built in feature, no app needed.

I love you mate. Now I can use my phone again.
Oh thank God it WORKS! thanks to you man, your post is really helpful. thanks to everyone who have shared this idea!
Let me explain in detail how it works on mine:
1. battery pulled (if possible, the battery shoulldn't be too full to allow the charging animations to appear)
2. connect phone to usb that is connected on pc (without the battery inserted) n wait like 1 or 2 seconds before inserting the battery
3. insert the battery now
4. wait for the battery lightning logo to appear
5. once appeared, wait for the battery lightning logo to disappear (it took me almost 10 seconds.. might vary with yours)
6. once the battery lightning logo disappear, wait for the charging animation to appear (almost instant)
7. when the charging animation appears, kindly pull the battery now.. hehe.. it doesn't matter if you wanna pull it immediately after the charging animations appear or not as long as the animation is still playing..
8. this is the point where it should work or not:
A: sometimes the animation will continue to loop 3 times n nothing happen. Repeat process from step 1.
B: there's a split second static lines on the screen (static as in the iPhone 5 keyboard static) and then the battery animation got stuck. just wait. n then it turns off. n then it vibrates. n then, it boots! =D
P/S: This is NOT MY GNex. My GNex is fine right here with me. The GNex in description here belongs to my friends' aunt. she bought the phone based on my recommendation. the phone is only 4 months old. Mine is 7 months old. luckily the phone is still in warranty so she'd be able to get it fixed soon for free. I'm gonna give the phone back to her so that she could backup every single pictures n videos coz she never did any sort of backup since the phone was bought.. *gasp*
IMPORTANT!
since i have my own GNex, I emptied my battery (i left it only around 10% or so) n put it in her GNex so that the charging animations will appear when i try to revive it using the method above. coz before this, her GNex's battery was full n once the battery lightning logo disappear, only the battery full logo appears afterwards, meaning no animations is shown. n i don't know whether this affects anything at all. just thought i'd mention it. =)
actually I didn't even know the power button is problematic. I thought it was bricked or something. i've even used the omapflash thingy.. lol.. i even considered the odin method n stuff.. luckily i came across this thread..
thanks again everyone.
=)
please!!

Thanks a million, man. You totally saved my bacon with this trick. :good:
My Galaxy Nexus is up and running again after about 5 minutes of pulling and inserting the battery I finally got it booted up.
My power button's been broken for a few weeks and I installed an app to turn my screen on using the VOL button but I was out all day today and made the mistake of letting my battery completely die and of course it powered down - OOPS.
Guess I'd better get that power button fixed.

I followed the same basic procedure (thanks!), but wanted to add a couple notes.
1) I wasn't having much luck after step 8 until I actually put the battery back in as suggested by the second post in the thread -- that seems to trigger the boot process more consistently.
2) If the process is not working, try a different USB cable. I tried a number of times with one cable to no avail, then finally got desperate enough to try another cable, and it worked the very first time.
3) Once the phone is actually booted, here are a couple other apps that can help with the lack of functioning power button:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.ponury.pgm2free --- For those who are rooted, you can use this (or the paid version with more features) to slide your finger across the turned-off screen to wake the phone. It can be a little finicky in my experience, sometimes pressing the volume button after swiping seems to do the trick:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock -- Lets you turn off the screen via a shortcut; I have a shortcut on my home screen and in my notifications.

I have an ATT LG G3 yesterday it the phone suddenly won't turn on. It was on with mostly full battery and now won't turn on and is competley unresponsive. When I plug it in, no charging light comes on. Additionally I tried the hard reset by holding down power and down volume key; this gave me nothing.
Thinking that it might be a battery problem, I left it plugged in all night. But still nothing.
Any ideas?

I had the same problem and pulling the battery wasn't cutting it. This worked for me:
1. Take out the battery
2. WITH THE BATTERY OUT OF THE PHONE AND NOT PLUGGED IN, press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
What this does is it drains all the power stored in the phone and takes the power source away so the phone can fully reboot and refresh the power cycle.
3. Replace he battery and plug in the phone to the OEM LG Charger that came with the phone.
4. Let the phone charge for about 15 minutes then try to turn it on.
This worked for me but some phones are DOA being the phones are still in early production. It takes a few months before they work out all the Kinks.
I figured I'd add my two cents. I had the same issue with my D851 (T-Mobile) version. I was copying a file over my from computer and halfway through the phone shut off. I thought the screen timed out, but it wouldn't turn back on. I pulled the battery, tried holding the power button without the battery for 60 seconds, putting the battery back in, charging without the battery... nothing. The LED would never light, and the phone would never turn on. I contacted LG and it's currently on its way back to them for replacement.
I work for a wireless service provider and not only sell this phone but own one. I also had the problem and unfortunately the battery out power combo did not work for me either and swapping the battery was to no avail. I have seen one other DOA as well. I have noticed the new LG models have had some significant flaws and lemons when they've first come out but I feel the specs and price you get are worth the risk so if this does happen to you I wouldn't throw in the towel on LG quite yet. However the way LG reacts to this will speak volumes to the company's overall success in the industry.

what would happen if I tried returning my phone with root and another rom on it and it won't turn on?
I tried manually going to twrp but went to recovery instead, restarted phone and now it won't turn on. I've tried the suggestions in this thread to no avail.
Won't turn on
My LG G3 D855 first had this problem of restarting on its own when I play with its camera and while restarting, the phone is getting warmer. And now, it wont turn on. I press the power button while it is off, it tried to turn on until the LG logo screen and then it shuts down on its own and restarting non-stop until that LG logo screen and turning off again. When I plugged in a charger, it manages to turn on but only to the pass code part and then it turns off again and the battery charging screen when phone is turn off, is displayed. The battery showed was higher than the battery showed when during the pass code stage. Is it the battery problem? I haven't send the phone to be check yet, I hope its the battery..
Clearing phone
My won't turn on either. I filed an insurance claim and am getting a new one. But I have to send my old phone in. I was wondering how I can get all my info off of the old phone before I turn it in. I don't want some one to get my info that is on that phone. How do I clear it all with it not turning on. Is there a hard drive from the phone I can remove?

The plan: Put the phone into recovery and then push " power on".
The method: To get into recovery, push power and volume down together until you see "system recovery" ( it will take a while- maybe more than a minute) and touch "continue power up" by depressing the power key.

2. WITH THE BATTERY OUT OF THE PHONE AND NOT PLUGGED IN, press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
What this does is it drains all the power stored in the phone and takes the power source away so the phone can fully reboot and refresh the power cycle.
3. Replace he battery and plug in the phone.

Just wanted to say this worked for me. Thanks.
Hey guys,
Appreciate it if you could spare me some advice on how to proceed.
So I was watching a twitch stream and all of the sudden tablet froze, and the audio froze as well causing a large super high pitch noise, I hard-reset the tablet but instead of resetting it just turned off, I started to browse the forums and found that a combination of (POWER + VOL UP & DOWN + HOME) would reset the tablet, now what this did for me is turn the tablet on but it was stuck in SD CARD Mode, back again to the forums, read that letting it discharge fully and then it will be able to be charged and turned on, that worked tablet was back doing some various tasks no video again and then boom freezes again same symptoms except this time I couldn't get it to go to SD CARD Mode its very finicky after trying at various times in the day I finally got it to work, same process except this time as soon as it turned on I went into recovery factory reset it to stock, worked a bit longer this time only installed chrome, and it froze again (don't think it was chrome) , rinse repeat and I flashed the latest firmware with ODIN worked fine, I've gotten to the home screen ran through the "factory new" set up and it turned off of me again.
I plugged it in let it charge, came up with battery icon 5% 10% ect, then I left it for a while, I came back and I cant even get it to show the battery percentage(tap power) let alone turn on.
I'm fairly sure that eventually I can get it turn back on but from there I don't know what to do.
TL;DR - Tablet Froze, Hard Reset, Froze again - Rinse Repeat, ODIN to latest STOCK firmware, tablet worked for 5 min before turning off again (plugged in), present situation
Any ideas as what to be causing the freezing and how I could remedy it?
Also sometimes when it froze it turned itself off without me hard resetting it.
Thanks its been driving me insane,
Please do not hesitate to ask me to clarify or provide more information so I can help you help me.
Maybe youve got the loose battery connector problem?

What would you suggest I do, submit it to warranty ? Will they disregard the fact that knox has been tripped if its a hardware issue ?

I had the loose battery connector problem, but the symptoms do not sound the same as mine. I could get mine to boot up, but the screen would flicker and a few white lines would appear before it would reboot itself. I actually started a ticket with Samsung and got the packaging label but, upon further reading, realized that I was pretty much SOL after tripping knox, and didn't want to risk the chance of getting charged for just sending it in. If it is indeed the loose battery connector, you should be able to remove the back cover yourself and fiddle with it. Ultimately, mine needed re-soldering, and I was able to find a local electronic repair shop to do it for me for cheap.
Good luck!
UPDATE: I've managed to get into SDCARD MODE yet again, except discharging seems to get out of it, but once I plug it back in it doesn't come up charging it just black screen, until I hold some buttons and arrive back at sdcard mode. Good times.
Trying various things to get it to boot..
EDIT: Appreciate the insight Squez, I want to exhaust all the other options before opening it myself, if Knox didn't void the warranty to some degree, opening it up should put the final nail in the coffin.
EDIT2: Good news, sort of, tablet isn't dead! after numerous attempts with charge SDCARD mode, discharge, It finally start to charge properly and I managed to get it to boot, worked for a few hours then I left it to charge, and went to sleep, woke up and wont turn on again, but I am in SDCARD Mode again but need wait for it to discharge from presumably 100% ....
[What do you mean Sd card mode? DOWNLOAD mode?
Also no need to let the battery drain.
Just press VOLUME DOWN(not volume up) and POWER together then hold until it restarts.
This is a hard reset and will ALWAYS work unless the device is hard bricked. It is the equivalent of a battery pull.
I continually see here and there incorrect information regarding key combinations, even in so called guides, this forum is even guilty!
Here is what works on the 10.5lte, as far as I'm aware its the same for all versions, indeed pretty much any Samsung device.
HARD RESET:
VOLUME DOWN - POWER.
Hold until the device restarts.
DOWNLOAD MODE:
HOME - VOLUME DOWN - POWER.
Hold until the device boots.
RECOVERY MODE:
HOME - VOLUME UP - POWER.
Hold until the device boots.

I should of posted a photo earlier but here is one I found on google of same screen: (check attachments)
Except UP KEY and DOWN KEY don't do anything, its just this screen, if you attempt to hard reset ect, it will just reload this screen, hence the discharge, then plug it back in and hope it begins to charge "battery icon appears". I have gotten it to boot like this a few times.

Yeah its strange as.
I'll have a look at that, thanks.
EDIT: It just finished discharging and now I am on the battery screen.. Usually once it charges here I can get it to boot, what I'm curious is what on earth keeps causing it to freeze up, because in download mode and twrp (gone since i flashed stock via odin) it wouldn't freeze at all, only have issues with it once its booted or charging. I installed a logcat earlier hopefully that should shed some light on the situation,
EDIT2: Well another very interesting thing, the official Samsung charger wont charge it, only works if I plug it into pc or use a non-official charger, strange thing is nothing is wrong with the samsung charger or cable since I can charge my phone fully from it. These have to be some of the strangest symptoms.
EDIT3: Only works through USB port on PC for now, non official charger comes with red X on battery once booted. I assume you can work around this once rooted but that's for another time..
EDIT4: Charge through pc to around 2-3%, boot device, plug into official samsung wall charger and it begins to charge properly.
EDIT5: Hooray back to step one, trying get into SDCARD Mode, same thing happened left it overnight and it wont turn on or charge anymore.

i am pretty sure the HOME - VOLUME DOWN - POWER. puts the 10.5 into the sdcard mode.
my tablet is doing very similar to sunb3ar findings.
have had it come back to me once from sdcardmode.. (let if go flat and starting charging then it would start via normal buttons)
it crashed not long after that. it got stuck in sdcard mode again, but this time none of the drain flat, put on charge has worked.. just blank..
fyi- we try to put it in RECOVERY MODE, but it does not work when in this crashed / sdcard mode state
i even disconnected the battery and then plugged back on charge.. nothing..
today i tested the battery volts, 2.8v , for a 3.8v i thought that was ok. i attached my RC lipo multi charger set to 1amp 3.7volt charge, direct to the - + on the battery- got it up to 3.5v, plugged back in, put the charger on- the sdcard mode (most life it has shown in a week).
still not coming up with 'battery' display to say its 'turn-off and being charged'. just the sdcardmode might disappear and return..
i am currently adding mode charge to battery... will try to HARD RESET next.. since i have not tried that combo yet..
HARD RESET:
VOLUME DOWN - POWER.
Hold until the device restarts.
edit: i took it off 'direct' charge, battery at 3.7volts.. then plugged in normal charger, i got a 'battery symbol' but it had the lightening bolt, not a %.. so i unplugged and reconnected to my direct charge to give the battery more volts. i am surprised that the unit seems to think a battery with 3.8volt as it specs seems to not be like with volts not much lower than 3.8.. could be time for a new battery if we can get this thing to restart
Hey there. I am new to XDA.
My tablet last night was just fine! Everything was working perfectly and i played a few games before i went to sleep. Anyhow, Today afternoon i trying to wake up the screen of my tablet and it doesn't even turn on the screen! I put it in to charge but nothing happens. The only thing that happens is that is getting warm at the back because of charging.
So overall, last night was working, today is not even turn on.
p.s: Few weeks back i try to root my tablet and i didn't make it. I had the problem "Firmware upgrade encountered and issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again" But i managed to recover to fully factory settings all over again.
Thanks
Try this tool:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...&_nkw=usb+current+and+voltage+tester&_sacat=0
Make sure the current should be ~ 1,7 Amps, voltage should be ~ 5.2 Volts.
There are many unknowns: bad charger or bad USB cable or bad USB charging port.
You should use another known working USB cable or charger to test. Another micro USB cable can be used to charge or 5 Volts to 5.3 Volts charger.
If you tablet is charging, press the HOME button it should show a green battery icon.
The problem is not with the charger, its with the software I guess

I tried the power, home, down thing also the power, home,up nothing happens. As i told when i try to charge the tablet the back of the tablet was getting warmer, a sign that says its charging. BUT the screen does not open with the battery on it.. Basically it doesn't turn on at all.
Tried that
Also tried that too.. But i think the voltage its alright i think and also i use my 7 months old original charger that came with the tablet. So the chances are so few.

Another way if you cannot see anything, try of using HDMI adapter to connect to your TV. Signs of your tablet is running: vibration at start up, sounds of start screen or menu and back buttons light up. If you see these signs, probably the LCD cable is disconnected or loose. But how do you know your tablet is charging ? The charger or cable is working but the USB charging port doesn't work, you'll have a dead battery. There are too many unknowns you're even not sure, then others cannot guess what is wrong. First thing first, you need to know if your tablet is charging, then you will figure out what is next.
Nothing!

Hey there.. Thanks for the help!
I know that is charging because the back of the tablet is getting warmer when i charge it. Also no back keys or nothing is showing up. I tried everything. The only thing i didnt try is the HDMI thing. Plus the tablet is in full silence. no vibration or anything. i dont remember if the tablet was vibrating at the turn on. The only thing i got from the tablet since yesterday is nothing. not even a light of the screen or download mode or back light NOTHING so unexpectedly
Thanks!
When the tablet shows no sign of life, the only way to know first if the mainboard is working, is is taking charge ?
The back is warming cannot tell anything. If the battery is dead you cannot go troubleshooting further unless swapping another battery to see if the tablet can turn on. Even with a full charged battery, a defective power button could prevent the tablet turning on.
There are too many unknowns, that's why elimination method have to use to find the source of problem: software or hardware.
The USB current and voltage tester will help you without guessing the working status of your tablet. I have no clues, that's why I'm guessing too.
Not even a clue!

I don't even have a clue. I search the whole internet about this problem and nothing. I will take it back to the store and use the warranty. Thats the best way
Long shot but try this. Unplug the charger. Hold the power button down for a full 20 seconds. Even if the tablet is in a "frozen" state, that should turn it off. Then try turning it on again.
Tried it.

Friends,
My redmi note 5 pro was 50% battery and it suddenly turned off. After that when power connected no response. Connect via USB and Mi Logo appears first, then the battery icon with a flash symbol in middle. This repeats continuously. Some help, please ?
The phone is not rooted. Still in warranty period. No recent update. The last update was 1 month ago. No glitches after that.

Woh.. its been a long time, though I am still using the same phone. ?
Try a hard reset first, if it doesn't help run to the service center. Don't worry about your data, service technician can easily recover it.
Back then My phone came into contact with sweat moisture and it fried few chips on the mother board.
Fluid damage is not covered under warranty, yet they gave me 50% discount. ?
All the data was restored afterwards and the phone still working fine.?
Hope you will find a solution soon. ?
Hey, it might be a bit late but i found a solution: i charged my phone for a few hours in fastboot mode (volume down + power button). Then turn it off and on again.

i had this problem yesterday, until today i had it 4 times, i always managed to restart it randomly, but today it remained in this loop, i can't even activate fastboot mode.
I attach the photo of the battery symbol that shows up when I try to turn it on and when I put it in charge, in loop
have you fix it?

I was also facing the similar issue yesterday. Actually my phone fell down while charging after that it's started behaving like that and I kept on charging for 2 hours and tried to switch to fastboot mode still no luck and after that I left the phone idle for sometime witout charging and I gently pressed all the edges of my phone and tried fastboot mode and it's started working.
I know the solution which I gave looks silly but it's worked for me

hey i have the same problem with my redmi k20 pro battery icon is flashing again and again and i cant switch to fastboot mode pls suggest something
remove the resistor in the battery and replace it with a thin wire, just jumper the two terminals
