[Q] ATT LG3 Won't Turn On Completely Unresponsive - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an ATT LG G3 yesterday it the phone suddenly won't turn on. It was on with mostly full battery and now won't turn on and is competley unresponsive. When I plug it in, no charging light comes on. Additionally I tried the hard reset by holding down power and down volume key; this gave me nothing.
Thinking that it might be a battery problem, I left it plugged in all night. But still nothing.
Any ideas?

I had the same problem yesterday. It kept playing the boot tone every 2-3 mins but the display and buttons were dead. I removed the battery and reinserted it. Voila. It works

I had the same problem and pulling the battery wasn't cutting it. This worked for me:
1. Take out the battery
2. WITH THE BATTERY OUT OF THE PHONE AND NOT PLUGGED IN, press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
What this does is it drains all the power stored in the phone and takes the power source away so the phone can fully reboot and refresh the power cycle.
3. Replace he battery and plug in the phone to the OEM LG Charger that came with the phone.
4. Let the phone charge for about 15 minutes then try to turn it on.
This worked for me but some phones are DOA being the phones are still in early production. It takes a few months before they work out all the Kinks.

I figured I'd add my two cents. I had the same issue with my D851 (T-Mobile) version. I was copying a file over my from computer and halfway through the phone shut off. I thought the screen timed out, but it wouldn't turn back on. I pulled the battery, tried holding the power button without the battery for 60 seconds, putting the battery back in, charging without the battery... nothing. The LED would never light, and the phone would never turn on. I contacted LG and it's currently on its way back to them for replacement.

I work for a wireless service provider and not only sell this phone but own one. I also had the problem and unfortunately the battery out power combo did not work for me either and swapping the battery was to no avail. I have seen one other DOA as well. I have noticed the new LG models have had some significant flaws and lemons when they've first come out but I feel the specs and price you get are worth the risk so if this does happen to you I wouldn't throw in the towel on LG quite yet. However the way LG reacts to this will speak volumes to the company's overall success in the industry.

what would happen if I tried returning my phone with root and another rom on it and it won't turn on?
I tried manually going to twrp but went to recovery instead, restarted phone and now it won't turn on. I've tried the suggestions in this thread to no avail.

Won't turn on
My LG G3 D855 first had this problem of restarting on its own when I play with its camera and while restarting, the phone is getting warmer. And now, it wont turn on. I press the power button while it is off, it tried to turn on until the LG logo screen and then it shuts down on its own and restarting non-stop until that LG logo screen and turning off again. When I plugged in a charger, it manages to turn on but only to the pass code part and then it turns off again and the battery charging screen when phone is turn off, is displayed. The battery showed was higher than the battery showed when during the pass code stage. Is it the battery problem? I haven't send the phone to be check yet, I hope its the battery..

Clearing phone
My won't turn on either. I filed an insurance claim and am getting a new one. But I have to send my old phone in. I was wondering how I can get all my info off of the old phone before I turn it in. I don't want some one to get my info that is on that phone. How do I clear it all with it not turning on. Is there a hard drive from the phone I can remove?

yes for i have solution if u want to turn on your phone ...
First put phone on charging and then turn it on after 10sec (dont remove from chargning ) when its completelty on ... then remove from charger ...

The plan: Put the phone into recovery and then push " power on".
The method: To get into recovery, push power and volume down together until you see "system recovery" ( it will take a while- maybe more than a minute) and touch "continue power up" by depressing the power key.

http://lgg3root.com/lg-g3-root-tutorials/how-to-manually-boot-into-cwmtwrp-recovery-on-lg-g3/ Said better than I can. Be sure that you are firmly pressing both on the power and volume down keys, at the same time, don't give up- To be sure I have constant pressure, I take off the case. I do this each time I restart the phone.

Oh awesome. I was browsing the web having the same problem and this totally fixed it for me. Cheers!

Phone won't turn on / No battery charging light, etc. Any ideas?

Hey everyone,
I searched and couldn't find anyone with the same problem. I turned on my phone, got to the lock screen and the lock screen was frozen. I tried for a little while and nothing was working so I pulled the battery. After putting the battery back in, my phone refuses to turn on. No boot screen or anything.
I've tried charging it with/without battery (no led indication that it's charging). I tried this method found on another phone's board: "Once battery is out, leave out for 15-30 mins, reinstall battery WITHOUT turning device on, plug in power supply, wait an additional 5-10 mins before turning back on." But nothing.
My ROM is SyndicateRom Frozen if it matters.
Let me know if you guys have any suggestions, otherwise I'll head to the sprint store today.

If it is the latest with 1.2 Vision kernel then your phone is bricked. You need to try and force it into download mode to Odin back to stock. There are several threads for people who have bricked phones. Search using Vision kernel bricked.
Do you BONSAI?
Thanks. I'll do that. I did have the 1.2 vision kernel.
Unfortunately, can't find a way to get into download mode. If I take it into Sprint, do you think they'll be able to tell I've been mucking with the kernel/custom roms or is it bricked enough that they'll just wipe / replace it?
No. Sprint will replace. Just tell them you turned it off to charge and it wouldn't come back on.
If you want to try and save it, pull the battery out, hold power button for 30 seconds, plug cable into computer, hold the 1 key on the keyboard and hold the power button to see if you can get into download mode. If so then you can follow the instructions in the sticky for How to fix a "bricked" epic/return to stock.
Do you BONSAI?
I would suggest leaving the battery out for about 20 mins.. then charging it for about an hour. then pull the battery hold power for about 30 secs stick the battery in and hold 1 and power. see if that gets you in DL mode. thats the pattern i had to follow to get repeatd DL modes from my VK brick for diagnosing the problem.
I already took it to Sprint and they've ordered me a replacement so I can't try that out. Hopefully your post will be useful to someone else with the same problem.
Thanks anyways

[Q] Nexus won't turn on.

I have just received my new phone from the insurance company as my last one got stolen. At first it seemed fine, I put it on charge, reset the phone and logged into Google. After a few minutes I went to check on it and I cant get it to turn on (or maybe its turned on but the screen isn't).
What should I do? Is this a common thing? Thanks.
Did you pull the battery, reinsert it and hold the power button down for a few seconds?
Also, when you were charging with the phone off did you get the charging graphic on the screen?

Thanks for the reply, i think i have fixed it now.
A better explanation of the problem I was having:
After a small amount of time the phone would freeze and very slowly the screen would fade to black, like the power to the screen had been taken away.
Even after pulling the battery, it wouldn't turn back on unless I waited without-battery for a while.
How i think i fixed it:
Waited a while with the battery out and turned back on, when i managed to turn it back on it had a half downloaded 4.0.4 update (could this have caused it?)
I kept trying to make it last long enough to download the whole update file, luckily it resumed from where it was last.
After installing the update it's been fine.
Sounds like a case of 4.0.2-itis.
4.0.4 is the wonder cure for all phone problems!

[Q] Power Button Problem -- Alternative way to turn on the Galaxy Nexus

Hi,
I'm having the (common?) problem, that the power button doesn't work any more. You can press it as long or often as you want, it doesn't do anything.
So -- big mistake -- I took of the battery and tried to restart. But the power button seems to be broken (hardware), so I now cant even turn on the phone to make it connect to e.g. adb...
Is there any way, to get the phone (without using the power button :/) able to talk to the adb / fastboot interface? (or better, boot it completely)
Need to get some data off it before sending it in for replacement..
thanks !
take the battery out and plug into usb (connected to computer). put the battery back in and when you see the battery charging on the screen remove the battery again. On mine the battery image starts flickering. at that point i put the battery back in and it rebooted.
This has worked for me a few times. Once rebooted you will be able to see your device using adb and then fastboot.
i got the idea from this post but found the timing i used worked better than his random attempts while holding the x key on the nexus one.

I've been searching the web for days looking for a way to turn on my Galaxy Nexus without using its broken power button, and your timing trick got it working. Thanks!
Thank you, i searched for a whole night during my night shift for this and it worked, lets hope i won't turn it off again :fingers-crossed:
Rooted?
If you have a rooted phone you can use AOKP ROM or any other roms that has volume wake in its settings. If your kernel supports it you can do what I did and use PGM Nexus from the market, basically what it does is let you lock and unlock your screen by swiping from left to right and right to left for each action (it keeps your touch controls on even when the screen is off and it doesn't use that much battery ) Hope this helps.

Is there some trick here guys? My phone has a busted power button and I need to get some data off it before repairing. I've tried this timing method but it doesn't seem to do anything. A charging icon shows up, I pull the battery and replace it, and then the full icon shows up and eventually disappears.
if you go to the phones main settings, security, lockscreen, then press none, youll be able to wake the device with the volume buttons. its a built in feature, no app needed.

I love you mate. Now I can use my phone again.
Oh thank God it WORKS! thanks to you man, your post is really helpful. thanks to everyone who have shared this idea!
Let me explain in detail how it works on mine:
1. battery pulled (if possible, the battery shoulldn't be too full to allow the charging animations to appear)
2. connect phone to usb that is connected on pc (without the battery inserted) n wait like 1 or 2 seconds before inserting the battery
3. insert the battery now
4. wait for the battery lightning logo to appear
5. once appeared, wait for the battery lightning logo to disappear (it took me almost 10 seconds.. might vary with yours)
6. once the battery lightning logo disappear, wait for the charging animation to appear (almost instant)
7. when the charging animation appears, kindly pull the battery now.. hehe.. it doesn't matter if you wanna pull it immediately after the charging animations appear or not as long as the animation is still playing..
8. this is the point where it should work or not:
A: sometimes the animation will continue to loop 3 times n nothing happen. Repeat process from step 1.
B: there's a split second static lines on the screen (static as in the iPhone 5 keyboard static) and then the battery animation got stuck. just wait. n then it turns off. n then it vibrates. n then, it boots! =D
P/S: This is NOT MY GNex. My GNex is fine right here with me. The GNex in description here belongs to my friends' aunt. she bought the phone based on my recommendation. the phone is only 4 months old. Mine is 7 months old. luckily the phone is still in warranty so she'd be able to get it fixed soon for free. I'm gonna give the phone back to her so that she could backup every single pictures n videos coz she never did any sort of backup since the phone was bought.. *gasp*
IMPORTANT!
since i have my own GNex, I emptied my battery (i left it only around 10% or so) n put it in her GNex so that the charging animations will appear when i try to revive it using the method above. coz before this, her GNex's battery was full n once the battery lightning logo disappear, only the battery full logo appears afterwards, meaning no animations is shown. n i don't know whether this affects anything at all. just thought i'd mention it. =)
actually I didn't even know the power button is problematic. I thought it was bricked or something. i've even used the omapflash thingy.. lol.. i even considered the odin method n stuff.. luckily i came across this thread..
thanks again everyone.
=)
please!!

Thanks a million, man. You totally saved my bacon with this trick. :good:
My Galaxy Nexus is up and running again after about 5 minutes of pulling and inserting the battery I finally got it booted up.
My power button's been broken for a few weeks and I installed an app to turn my screen on using the VOL button but I was out all day today and made the mistake of letting my battery completely die and of course it powered down - OOPS.
Guess I'd better get that power button fixed.

I followed the same basic procedure (thanks!), but wanted to add a couple notes.
1) I wasn't having much luck after step 8 until I actually put the battery back in as suggested by the second post in the thread -- that seems to trigger the boot process more consistently.
2) If the process is not working, try a different USB cable. I tried a number of times with one cable to no avail, then finally got desperate enough to try another cable, and it worked the very first time.
3) Once the phone is actually booted, here are a couple other apps that can help with the lack of functioning power button:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.ponury.pgm2free --- For those who are rooted, you can use this (or the paid version with more features) to slide your finger across the turned-off screen to wake the phone. It can be a little finicky in my experience, sometimes pressing the volume button after swiping seems to do the trick:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock -- Lets you turn off the screen via a shortcut; I have a shortcut on my home screen and in my notifications.

M9 won't turn on anymore - bricked?!

Hey guys
I was super happy with my Australian Telstra M9 until an hour ago. I plugged it with 3% of battery in for charging and turned it off to speed the process up. When it was off the charging icon showed up just as usual. After a few hours I came back, unplugged the phone and it flashed 100% for a second. After that - nothing! It just won't turn on! I pressed every button and every possible combination of those. I plugged it back in for a bit and connected it to my laptop. But it's not even recognized. I googled for a bit but found no solution. I rooted the phone a couple of weeks ago but didn't do anything like that today. No updates, no new apps only some WhatsApp and 9gag.
What do you reckon? Is it bricked? Will I get a replacement and how long will that take? I have to leave Australia in 9 days so I'm quite on a schedule. -.-
Does anyone have any advice?!
Cheers Max
Edit: is there a chance to recover the data? I'm traveling and forgot to back anything up. Some of the data is quite important. And do you think I'll get into trouble because of the root?
No clue, try a different charger maybe.
I tried three different charges plus my laptop. Neither of them worked. Is there gonna be any way to rescue the data from the internal storage or will the just wipe it after they repaired it?
I would try holding the power and volume up button for at least 2-3 minutes. If it does come on, as soon as you feel it vibrate, move your finger down to the volume down button and hold it until you get into download mode. Then boot to the bootloader and then recovery and restore a nandroid.
Oh my god!!! Thank you so much! I have no idea why but after a minute it booted up just fine an all my data are still there. I'm never ever gonna forget a backup anymore. But what happend? Why did it start again? Battery is down to 50% so it seems it has been running all night and was stuck at some point. What can I do to avoid this from happening again? I don't wanna get a heart attack every time the phone won't turn on
But for the moment I'm alright! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

TBH, don't really know what happened to you. Did you flash custom rom, recovery? or only root?
I didn't know that. I only new power + vol down. And I didn't hold it for a minute. I did nothing but flashing TWRP and root the stock rom. I didn't even change much with the root and only use it for titanium backup and adaway. That's why I was so baffled, when the phone suddenly "broke" because I didn't do anything unusual to it.

I'm glad you got your phone up and running. I know exactly how you feel, I had the same thing happen to me. I thought mine died when the screen went black after I flashed a kernel. Its always scary when the phone won't respond.
The phone was likely frozen. Power + Volume Up forces the phone to reboot after being held for a while. It could be some weird software issue due to the rooting and TWRP, but no one can say for sure. It might happen again but now you know how to reboot it If you really want to avoid the possibility of problems, you probably want to run stock and not root the phone or change bootloader... but what's the fun in that?
You're right no risk no fun. I'm actually waiting for cm so running stock is no option anyway
Thanks for saving me lots of headaches
FYI - I thought I had bricked mine as well - no flashing activity in a couple of weeks, all good chargers. Even made an appointment for repair.
Read the "hold power and vol up for a minute or two," and was like... nooooo... 10 seconds is the max you'd do that for... but tried it... bam, worked like a charm at ~45 seconds for me. Got into HTC FTM mode in which no option worked (reboot to bootloader, simlock, couple of others seemed to just pop immediately back to this weird non-download menu). Holding power for a while after that reset the device. Working now.
Thanks for the thread... been doing this for five years and this is the first no-charge no-response event I've had

I would try holding the power and volume up button for at least 2-3 minutes. If it does come on, as soon as you feel it vibrate, move your finger down to the volume down button and hold it until you get into download mode. Then boot to the bootloader and then recovery and restore a nandroid.

Worked like a champ, thanks a ton! :good:
Hi All,
About a week ago my M9 powered down while on charge and then wouldn't power on again. No response at all from the standard power button but only holding it for a few seconds at a time.
I knew the buttons to hold to enter bootloader and after several tries it powered on again.... It then ran for a couple of days with no issues.
Then a couple of days later had to power off the phone on a flight - same issue - wouldn't power on - dead.
It took several attempts to bring it back to life. I'm now in a position when every time I power off the phone it just doesn't want to come back on? Thought that it may have been a custom rom issue or a kernel issue - have tried changing both (painful experience by the way - having to wait for the phone to decide when its ready to wake up "when it feels like it after each new installation) but the problem is still there.
I have also found that entering bootloader using the power button and volume button isn't the only solution to "waking up" the phone. Just holding the power button for 10-60 seconds has the same effect - but it sometimes takes several attempts over several minutes - its very random.
Does anyone else have this recurring problem every time they power off? Does anyone on "stock" have the problem?
I'm starting to think that maybe its hardware rather than a software issue?
Try turning off the phone, plugging in the charger, and holding all three buttons for two minutes.
HTC has recommended this as a fix for battery issues like the slow charging bug. Apparently it clears all the battery settings and recalibrates it. The phone will reboot repeatedly while you're doing this, but that's normal. Keep holding the buttons.
I have seen HTC phones do this in the past when the battery system gets confused.

My M9 is not quite 6 months old - ALL stock. Went to bed last night , M9 quick charger plugged in with green light and phone power on - just in airplane mode. Woke up 4 hours later and found the phone dead.
I tried 1 button, 2 button, and 3 button holds for 5 minutes each, plugged in and not plugged in - still dead!
Any help would be appreciated.

Best to run a logger like BetterBatteryStatsor GSam Battery Monitor to find out what is draining it

Ah you cannot even get it charged anymore?
I know HTC phones had an issue that when they are completely drained, they seem to be dead, even not charging or anything. Yet if you keep them in the charger, eventually they would show as charging and being able to turn on again.

Leave it in connected to the stock charger overnight and see if that helps. If not, you might have a hardware fault and need to return it for warranty service.
I too thank you most profusely!!

My G4 wont boot

Hi,
First my phone is a H815, bought on amazon, bootloader unlocked since it was possible, and running on Freedom rom.
Yesterday night it ran out of battery and now it wont boot.
I tried of course to remove the battery and charge it over night.
When power it on, thereis the LGlogo as usual, but then the screen turns off and nothing happens. Sometimes I can see the beginning of the boot animation before the screen turns off.
When the screen turns off, I have to remove the battery before I can boot it again, but it never starts.
I tried to boot on recovery mode (TWRP) by pressing pwr + vol- but after I select "Yes" twice the screen turns off again.
Last thing, when I connect it to my PC in Update mode (vol+ then plug) I see Download Mode, then screen turns off. I managed to get to the S/W screen once but the screen still turns off after a certain amount of time.
This is very weird I don't know what to do
I just saw on another topic that several people had the same issue.. that sucks so much
Its a hardware issue try to have it warantied by lg. Or replace motherboard

Lol several try hundreds. Im not bein a smarta$$ this is a majpr hardware defect. Im sure there are thousands that havnt reported it or not xda members.
mm if it keeps on on bootloop hardware if it just turns off then battery.?
Like raptor said. Could be batt if it just shuts off. G3 were noted for this also. I got on3 in my posesion doing it
My battery might be dead, is that what your are trying to say ? How can I verify this ? Even pluged it doesn't boot.
sometimes the batteries just die give out kick it if all else fails order a cheap battery and try.
if not send to lg for waranty
Ok now even if I remove the battery and put it back, nothing happens when press the power button, nothing as well when I hold vol+ and plug it to the PC.
