will custom roms like cm10/JB allow bell mobile tv to work?

hi guys, as title says, will any custom roms allow bell mobility TV to work? im just curious, on my older phone that i put CM9 onto i could not get bell mobility tv to work, it would say it stopped working, even after 30 different builds,
is this the same case here? or does it work? Thanks!

I just tried mine running task650 aokp and after the app opens it tells me that my device is not supported. But, maybe I'll try changing my build.prop so that it reflects a Bell Canada phone and not an American AT&T phone.....might work....I'll have to get back to you.

That is also possible....may not work until we get the holy Jellybean update. Going to be tomorrow night before I get back to my computer to get at my backed up original build.prop to compare device ids and stuff.

ok good to know, and rom wise what is a good rom to run right now? i notice there is jellybean roms and cm10 rom, well cm10 is jelly bean i know that but whats the differences? i know my old phone, all roms where gingerbread and cm9 was ics, so of course you'd go cm9 if you wanted ics because its your only choice

The App is Jelly Bean compatible, as I am using it on the latest leak. I have tried to flash Bell's csc on top of other ROMs in the past and have had no luck getting Mobile Tv to work. This includes AOKP CM10 and stock ROMs from other countries. On my S2 as well. Maybe there is something in Build.prop, but I haven't been able to figure anything out.

where do i find this leak? , i kinda want for some reason to keep being able to use mobile tv, i gave it up before but now with this phone being faster and just better than my old, i wouldnt mind to have the ability to watch some tv when i bored lol
update: i found the leak, put er on my phone too, yay jelly bean, so what is the difference or advantages of running say CM10 vs this jellybean update from bell? thanks

The Bell leak is somewhat buggy, but not enough to keep me from using it as a daily. The reason I use it over CM10 is simply because I love Touchwiz. CM10 seems way faster and loads of other benefit, but I think that Samsung has done really well with this as stock. If you don't stay stock, the Bell TV app will not work (to the best of my experience). It all comes down to what you like and what you want to work.

I got it to work by using these settings in build.prop
- ro.product.name=d2vl
- ro.product.device=d2can
- ro.product.model=SGH-I747M
- ro.build.product=d2can
works so far without issues

interesting, i have not personally used or edited roms or files as such, how would i go about that more specifically? decompile a rom and put that into the .prop or open .prop in notepad or what lol
i am a technical computer guy but when it comes to androids and such and their builds, i know how to root, and flash and all that dealio just not about their filesystem structure, etc,

Download ES File Explorer, and under settings make sure: Root explorer, up to root and mount file system are checked.
Go into the /System/ Directory and you'll see the build.prop file in there, press and hold to bring up the menu and open as a text file, and you should see the settings in there that you can change

so this is a sure fire way to get mobile tv to work?, if so then i'd go to CM10 or something if its worth it vs bells jellybean,
also if i root and put cm10 on, can i undo it all and unroot, etc so that if i had to get the phone fixed they would never know it happened? or is there some special internal sucker that knows that youve went custom and doesnt revert back that the factory checks?
sorry i suck at explaining some times but i hope that worked LOL

Haha, I think i got it. Yup, so far so good on my phone running CM10, in fact I'm using it right now! hahah.
There's a thread under the development section that tells you how to root without tripping the counter so that no one will know that you've rooted. And I believe that all you have to do to unroot is to flash an original stock rom

This works for me also running task650's jellybean aokp.

I just edited this file, but I am still greeted with, "Coming to your device soon!"
Wiped app data with Titanium; rebooted as well.
I see this issue is current.
Any suggestions?

Did you reboot after making the changes? I got the exact same message when opening the app. Made the changes and rebooted and started watching TV.

For the record: I had restarted, initially, but when it didn't work and I went back to the file to review the text once again, I realised I forgot to stick that capital M in there. I changed it, saved it, but still no tv - simply because, I didn't restart again.

I'm curious if anyone has got this working with Rogers Live TV. I have edited my build.prop to reflect what has been posted in this thread to no avail. I am running the latest AOKP. I have even taken editing the build.prop as far as modifying the description and fingerprint.

The ro. product.name may be different for Rogers. The rest should be the same. After editing make sure you save the edited file. Hopefully you have a nandroid in case changing something here makes your phone non-booting. After saving the edited file reboot, if that doesn't work reboot recovery wipe cache/dalvic/fix permissions and try that. If none of that works you may have to get a Rogers stock ROM and see what those four lines are on stock and change them to reflect that.
BTW- which app are you using to edit the build.prop?

[Q] What ROMs support 4G LTE?

New phone, and I already feel like a n00b again. Flame on if you wish, but here goes:
So I have a shiny new G S3, and after futzing with it and finding it full of the normal carrier crapware, figure it is easier just to flash it to something custom. So I get Cyanogenmod all ready, clockwork recovery set, flash, all pretty much with no drama (besides the normal USB driver fight) and... I have no 4G.
Now I *DID* have 4G on the sprint ROM, so I know that I am both in the service area as well as activated. I get *NO* data unless I switch the moble networks option to "CDMA/evDO auto". Then 3G works just fine. Put it on "LTE/CDMA/EvDo" and nothing (I can still make calls though).
I've tried the stable 10.0.0-d2spr build, a few of the nightlies, and one particular one I found on another thread (the 20121226 nightly build) and none of these do 4G.
So on this phone, do I need a radio or something (coming from the HTC world) along with the ROM itself? Is there some type of activation or registration apk I should be seeing and am just missing? I see all kinds of posts from last year about this phone from people who don't seem to even have 4G where they are... but not a single screenshot from anyone that shows the 4G connection icon on any custom ROM.
I'm willing to try just about any ROM, although I'd like to keep it to ones I can flash from clockwork recovery.
If it is of any hint, I couldn't use heimdall... got "protocol error"... but was able to install Samsung drivers and install clockwork with Odin with no problem at all.

It works on every rom based on the official firmware. (Freegs, freezas rom, blazer rom, etc) almost anything in android development.
A prl and profile update would probably do you some good.
I believe even cm supports lte, but I'm not much an aosp guy. You could try updating to the latest radio, May help.
I wish I could be more help, but I'm not a pro in this area as I don't have lte in my town yet. Lol
Id also recommend using twrp through goo.im

Cm does support 4G, as I had it on the stable version. Worked just fine. Restore your stock version, update profile and PRL then restore or re flash cm10 and it should work just fine.
I will post a screenshot later on cm10 with 4G.

This may be a dumb question, but if I did that prior to flashing (I activated the phone, and started the reflash about an hour after that, but with LTE working), wouldn't the restore and then reflash just overwrite it again? Is there some way to back up the profile/prl, or some aftermarket/Sprint app to do it on a custom ROM? (or some secret phone number sequence, which I can't seem to find?)
I'm now on Liquidsmooth 3.2.1, and although nice, it also seems not to like LTE mode (no data/Internet at all).
Here's another new thought, though: when I'm on LTE mode in "mobile networks", and then go into About Phone -> Status, it does say "Mobile network type: LTE:13" with "service state: in service" and "roaming: Not Roaming" and I can make calls... so it looks like possibly an activation problem or something? Is there a set of passwords or auth keys stored somewhere that may need updating?

I'm pretty sure updating PRL and profiles just updates your radios, so it doesn't effect it if you restore a ROM. But don't quote me on that. There is a good chance I am wrong. All I know is I see around that seems to fix the error a lot, stock updating prl then restoring to cm10.

... and got back a stock image (and recovery) just like promised (Billiard412, you, sir, rock!). And with it, my 4G, working Sprint tether app, (can you tell what the most important feature is to me?)... and briefly thought of leaving it this way and trying to live with the crapware.
But... for science... I reflashed CM stable as those above suggested... and back exactly to where I was before. No data coverage at all unless I put it in EvDo mode.
Poking at the settings tab while on Sprint ROM, if anyone cares, the PRL doesn't change (still 24010) but the Sprint image did give me a filled in ICCID (the CM had that blank) as well as a "username". The mobile network type was now "LTE:14" (rather than "LTE:13" like it was on CM before and after) .
Sigh.
Might ye gods of XDA have any words of wisdom (I'll even take sympathy, at this point). No Nelson laughs, please.

The problem is with CM10. It does support LTE, but there was a problem with the APN settings that causes the problems you're experiencing. There is a file you can flash on CM10.0 that will fix your problem, but you may be better off looking for a nightly from 12/26 or later (I think that was the first nightly with the fix, but I don't remember), or just jump to CM10.1. All CM10.1 nightlies have the fix in place already.

I searched the CM10 thread and was able to locate the LTE handoff update. Unfortunately, the link no longer comes up in dropbox. I do, however, have it on my computer, but as I am not the original creator of the ZIP, I'm not sure about sharing something I did not create, as well as I do not know who the original creator is. If anyone out there can give me the permission, of or from, the original owner of the zip, I'll add it here.

Download, but do NOT extract. Flash AOSP/CM rom first, then kernel of choice (if you don't use provided kernel for rom, and finally, flash the update. As always, prior to beginning a new rom install, always wipe data/factory reset/wipe dalvik cache.

You should try some, what works correctly for one person may not work the same for you. I suggest Philz recovery for flashing kitkat ROMS. It never fails for flashing or restoring backups.

I haven't run it myself, was just pointing out where to download for the other user. Not a fan of Slim actually, hated it on a previous phone (different Android build as well), but a lot of users are pretty diehard about it. Personally, I'm all about the LiquidSmooth, with Beanstalk and AICP at the top of the list as well. However, if the lovely @Jessooca recommends, you can 100% rely on that recommendation (OK, 99.99%, little inside joke for her!).

Yeah, there have been lots of issues with the unified builds for the last two or three weeks for the ROMs that have gone with d2lte. The three I mentioned (LS, Beanstalk, and AICP) are favorites of mine right now because of a lack of issues in terms of data connectivity. My personal experience on others, like Carbon and CM11, is that LTE is fine, but they won't connect to 3G no matter what I try. This is an issue because I only have LTE access at my house, which is worthless because I use WiFi at home. At work, or whenever else I'm in town, there's no LTE, so 3G access is a must. I suppose it's a case of "flash it and see if it works" on any given ROM right now.

Thanks for the info. However, that's my ordeal. Ever since I switched to CM 11 drlte from drspr I get no LTE. It's always on 3G, and I live in a 4G/LTE area. I like the ROM very much but I thought I'm paying for 4G/LTE service and I'm not getting any. Might as well find something that works (at least temporarily), until they sort it out.

In that case I would highly recommend booting up any stock based ROM in order to do an update to your PRL and Profile. Once booted up, open the phone app and dial ##72786#. The phone will do two reboots, and then you will be good to go. Don't touch anything until it has definitely finished the procedure. Anyhow, Mr. Struck. I went back to stock and did what you have suggested. Went back to custom and got my LTE back. Everything seems to be working ok (so far).

[Q] How to edit E975 ROM to work on LS970

I would like some help changing a ROM from E975 to flash on my LS970, has anyone been successful at this?
I found a rom that is only for the E975 and I really want to check it out.
Here's what I have done so far:
I changed the updater-script to say the same as my phone so it would flash.
At this point I was able to flash the ROM and it booted great but I had no mobile network information.
So then I also edited the build.prop so my phone info would be there and I was able to change from 4G only to other mobile settings.
The ROM booted and worked great except I kept getting force closes, "unfortunately the process com.android.phone has stopped working"
I get this constantly, sometimes overlapping others. Until I turn off data or turn on airplane mode. So it is something to do with data, does anyone have any ideas?
I looked at other ls970 ROMs to match the settings in the build.prop but I still get the phone fc's.
(No I did not just pull one and slap it in another)
I am referring to the telephony lines, the ones that need to be edited and added in PA to make it work.
Things that work:
Everything that does not require mobile data to be turned on. (everything works if on wifi)
I can send/receive calls and texts, mms on wifi.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I have brought it up in the thread for the rom but I don't want to mention it here unless asked since I know the devs of some roms don't want mirrors (not that I would but I don't want to prompt someone to link me to a mirror of a modified version)
Basically I am trying to make an E975 ROM work on my LS970 and what the steps are to make it happen.

I just made a team to attempt that very thing. Data is being our issue. I'm pretty sure the variety of modems they have are our issue. We're trying to make stock Roms cross platform. Similar to what xbox did with Gee and Geeb.

That's awesome! I would offer my assistance but this is beyond me. Would you mind letting me know what you did when it is finished?
If I get it to work I will definitely post back, it may help you as well.
Basically what I have is an e975 ROM that is specific for that device. What have you got working so far? Is the modem part of the install package? Can I flash the ZVC modem from recovery for a specific ROM or is that in a different partition and affects the whole phone and every other ROM I install?
I am using the multiboot method so I am worried about my other ROMs I have installed, I don't want them to go out of whack since they work for the most part.
EDIT: I am up to testing anything you want to throw this way if that helps.

We're trying to just get a working baseline that's consistent, but so far weird things keep happening.
Jake wasn't too sure if it's even possible with stock. But we're trying.

I've been running this rom for a while now. I tried another dev's rom and came back after only one day. That was over the weekend. Today, I received a phone call from someone that I was sure would leave a voice mail. That's when I realized that the voice mail app is missing!!!!!!! Did I do something wrong? Is it missing for everyone else? How can I get it back? help please.

What's going on with Netflix? I can't seem to get it to work on this ROM but I am able to get it working on other roms. I do get a error message that my phone is unable to connect to Netflix network. But I can restore a backup to another ROM and Netflix works with no problem.

flash stock kernel, start netflix / etc, flash cusom kernel back and you should be good to go!

If you did a full back up. You may be able to pull voicemail off of the back up file.
I do a stock backup through keies3 before modding. Ran NK2 flawlessly. Rom applied fine.
But left root behind. Applied root yesterday on my side of the world.

So today I tried to download a image file from my google drive and I couldn't. also tried to download image from chrome browser, and from MMS (save image) and that also didnt work. Anyone else have these issues?

Just tested from my google drive to device (using download feature in drive) Worked flawlessly. just tried a random google image (note 4 search) downloaded flawlessly as well, MMS (waiting on msg from person now)
Give me some more information about your device please. Kernel, rom version, wifi/mobile data, etc

It might be kernel causing the issue. I flashed stock kernel to get netflix working but never flashed ael 6 kernel back. Is there a link to download ael 6 kernel. 1st page of this thread does not have link to ael 6 kernel download link. prefer flash able kernel. Thanks!

kernel is NOT the issue for the image downloading. It is for netflix however lol. I use latest AEL nearly at all times...

SD Card Issue
Having issues with certain apps not finding sd card. Audiable app and even xposed. running v1.1 with stock kernel at this time trying to make things work. Any ideas or fixes?
Update: After trying sd card fix and doing through app and zip no luck with fixing issue, problem was solved when i used int-sd card write fix. If you are having this issue i recommend to run both the int-sd card write fix and sd card fix for KK. Hope this helps.

so I have this problem idk if its the rom or whatever but sometimes randomly I cant get sms or calls like im next to a person and tell me to text or call me and I see it going threw on the other phone but I get no notification on mine ? like it goes straight to voice mall without a notification, it also happened in stock rom but it hasn't happpend in a long time I flashed this rom and it started happening more often now, so like it makes me paranoid so if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated

i flashed this rom which is amazing btw any way i cant turn of the call automation, everytime i get a call i get a if you would like to accept this call press 1 to send to voice mail press 2 any help would be great plz&thank you

This is a google voice "feature". The only way I know to rid this is the proper setup of google voice. Or you can go online to voice.google.com and get rid of screened calling feature. Under settings (looks like a small wrench)
