[Q] What ROMs support 4G LTE? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

New phone, and I already feel like a n00b again. Flame on if you wish, but here goes:
So I have a shiny new G S3, and after futzing with it and finding it full of the normal carrier crapware, figure it is easier just to flash it to something custom. So I get Cyanogenmod all ready, clockwork recovery set, flash, all pretty much with no drama (besides the normal USB driver fight) and... I have no 4G.
Now I *DID* have 4G on the sprint ROM, so I know that I am both in the service area as well as activated. I get *NO* data unless I switch the moble networks option to "CDMA/evDO auto". Then 3G works just fine. Put it on "LTE/CDMA/EvDo" and nothing (I can still make calls though).
I've tried the stable 10.0.0-d2spr build, a few of the nightlies, and one particular one I found on another thread (the 20121226 nightly build) and none of these do 4G.
So on this phone, do I need a radio or something (coming from the HTC world) along with the ROM itself? Is there some type of activation or registration apk I should be seeing and am just missing? I see all kinds of posts from last year about this phone from people who don't seem to even have 4G where they are... but not a single screenshot from anyone that shows the 4G connection icon on any custom ROM.
I'm willing to try just about any ROM, although I'd like to keep it to ones I can flash from clockwork recovery.
If it is of any hint, I couldn't use heimdall... got "protocol error"... but was able to install Samsung drivers and install clockwork with Odin with no problem at all.

It works on every rom based on the official firmware. (Freegs, freezas rom, blazer rom, etc) almost anything in android development.
A prl and profile update would probably do you some good.
I believe even cm supports lte, but I'm not much an aosp guy. You could try updating to the latest radio, May help.
I wish I could be more help, but I'm not a pro in this area as I don't have lte in my town yet. Lol
Id also recommend using twrp through goo.im

Cm does support 4G, as I had it on the stable version. Worked just fine. Restore your stock version, update profile and PRL then restore or re flash cm10 and it should work just fine.
I will post a screenshot later on cm10 with 4G.

I took this LTE speed test the day I downloaded and installed LiquidSmooth beta 3.2.1. Worked on LTE for me, flawlessly.

This may be a dumb question, but if I did that prior to flashing (I activated the phone, and started the reflash about an hour after that, but with LTE working), wouldn't the restore and then reflash just overwrite it again? Is there some way to back up the profile/prl, or some aftermarket/Sprint app to do it on a custom ROM? (or some secret phone number sequence, which I can't seem to find?)
I'm now on Liquidsmooth 3.2.1, and although nice, it also seems not to like LTE mode (no data/Internet at all).
Here's another new thought, though: when I'm on LTE mode in "mobile networks", and then go into About Phone -> Status, it does say "Mobile network type: LTE:13" with "service state: in service" and "roaming: Not Roaming" and I can make calls... so it looks like possibly an activation problem or something? Is there a set of passwords or auth keys stored somewhere that may need updating?

I'm pretty sure updating PRL and profiles just updates your radios, so it doesn't effect it if you restore a ROM. But don't quote me on that. There is a good chance I am wrong. All I know is I see around that seems to fix the error a lot, stock updating prl then restoring to cm10.

Well... followed this wonderful post...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099
... and got back a stock image (and recovery) just like promised (Billiard412, you, sir, rock!). And with it, my 4G, working Sprint tether app, (can you tell what the most important feature is to me?)... and briefly thought of leaving it this way and trying to live with the crapware.
But... for science... I reflashed CM stable as those above suggested... and back exactly to where I was before. No data coverage at all unless I put it in EvDo mode.
Poking at the settings tab while on Sprint ROM, if anyone cares, the PRL doesn't change (still 24010) but the Sprint image did give me a filled in ICCID (the CM had that blank) as well as a "username". The mobile network type was now "LTE:14" (rather than "LTE:13" like it was on CM before and after) .
Sigh.
Might ye gods of XDA have any words of wisdom (I'll even take sympathy, at this point). No Nelson laughs, please.

The problem is with CM10. It does support LTE, but there was a problem with the APN settings that causes the problems you're experiencing. There is a file you can flash on CM10.0 that will fix your problem, but you may be better off looking for a nightly from 12/26 or later (I think that was the first nightly with the fix, but I don't remember), or just jump to CM10.1. All CM10.1 nightlies have the fix in place already.

I searched the CM10 thread and was able to locate the LTE handoff update. Unfortunately, the link no longer comes up in dropbox. I do, however, have it on my computer, but as I am not the original creator of the ZIP, I'm not sure about sharing something I did not create, as well as I do not know who the original creator is. If anyone out there can give me the permission, of or from, the original owner of the zip, I'll add it here.

Download, but do NOT extract. Flash AOSP/CM rom first, then kernel of choice (if you don't use provided kernel for rom, and finally, flash the update. As always, prior to beginning a new rom install, always wipe data/factory reset/wipe dalvik cache.

quick question about gio gt-s5660M

Just wondering if someone could clarify about this model over the rest. Am I limited to rom's just made for the M model then? or do the normal roms I see like the cm7 ones in the development section of this model work on the m model?
Check this out. It might of some help to you.

Hi I have the "m" model as well and I haven't had much luck with the majority of roms made for the euro version of our phone. Darkshado had made a ROM called ArpegGioMod ROM that is made for the m series and works quite well. I use his ROM and I'm quite happy with it versus the stock ROM.
I flashed cyanogenmod 7.1 on my phone using Odin and by leaving out the phone package which seemed to work pretty well, but after a day my phone could not connect to the network to make phone calls or use 3g so I flashed back.
Let me know how it works for you. Thanks.

I have the s5660m as well and I've been using cyanogenmod 7.2 rc0 build4 since it came out. Everything works except gps.
I also have the s5660m , but it is unlocked. I am able to install any firmware, once is it a GIO rom. Go to ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1368587 It has a program to unlock your phone and also some other samsungs. Try it out.
I have an s5660m and I can download CM7 and CM9
I also have an unlocked and rooted 5660M. Has anyone been able to successfully install ClockWordMod recovery on the M? If so, please post a short how to.
Thanks
Hi. I've a related question since i've a "L" model (as in S-5660L). Am i stuck like the M models or can i do whatever i want with this?

Gio s5560m Stuck data mode deactivated.
Hello all,
I bought a Gio M about a month ago good phone and happy so far. Problem I've had is 3g is OFF ---> power button- Phone Options menu - Network Data mode is deactivated. Push to turn ON and stays deactivated. Go into system, network, and yes data packets is checked on.
Phone is stock no tweaks no extras, did a clear cache and reset phone to OE spent 2 hours with tech support on Virgin canada and Samsung. Virgin blames phone, Samsung Blames virgin 3g network.
My question is could the phone have a bad firmware flash from factory it came with 2.3.4
I am going to go back to Best buy next weekend and see if I can test with another gio. If 3g works on test unit then I'll send this one in for repairs I guess.
Any other suggestions?
Did you try another Virgin SIM? That's one thing I'd look into.
Also if you're in the Montreal area or in the GTA (I'm not sure where else) there are Samsung Service Centres you could take this to.
Show up in person and have them diagnose the problem. You might even be able to wait while they work on it if you have a bit of spare time.
2.3.4 is the proper version number for the stock ROM on the 5660M. No updates so far.
Gio s5560m no 3g
Have not tried another virgin sim. I do have a spare that came with the phone spose I could try it although its sealed up in the packaging still.
Live in northern Alberta and the nearest city with virgin phone sales is 2hrs away hence the wait to get fixed. Surprise surprise Samsung did not phone me back today like they said they would either.
Found one other post on here of a fellow in Norway with no 3g can't enable or disable but no answers on his post to the problem. I'll wait till the weekend and go to the city and see if Bestbuy has an activated sim they can put in and try.
Thanks for the help and I will update when I get it figured out.
i had the same connection problems, try going back to your stock ROM and take note of your APN settings, once you flash back to CM you'll notice the rom made several changes!
changing the APN settings back to stock, fixed any connection issues i had
hope i helped! (i'm using CM7.2 RC1 B1 KANG on my BELL 5660M)
s550m 3g
Problem is I am using the stock rom, the rom that came with the phone is the one giving the problems. Sending the phone back for "repairs" and we will see what comes of it.
I'll keep you all updated.

I'm new here and I tried to read all the information to get a good idea around flashing the S5660M. I also have the bell version.
I'm going to put down the steps, if anybody can give me pointers or correct any mistakes. That'd be great, I want to put CM7.1 or 7.2, whichever one is stable enough for all functionality to work. Speed is not an issue as I am giving this phone to my grandpa who needs a chinese language display system which Samsung didn't include in the original ROM.
1. Root phone
2. Install ClockworkMod Recovery
3. Reboot into recovery mode, make backup using Nandroid? I heard there's other tools that can be used. I'd like to backup the original ROM.
4. Download the desired CM from recovery mode onto SD card
5. Delete cache and wipe data
6. Choose the new ROM to be flashed and wait
I think that's the general idea, is there any key steps I am missing?
Sorry again for asking but I want to make sure I got the correct steps for S5660M.

Thanks for your info.
I read some more stuff yesterday(a lot of variance )
Some people mentioned titanium backup. Which one is better? nandroid or titanium backup to save up the original ROM?
Also, is Universal_GB_ROOT_v2.zip the best/safe way to root a S5660M?

Yes, the gb_root.zip or superoneclick.
Superoneclick can be downloaded from shortfuse.org
Make sure you have the usb drivers, usb debugging on.
Then connect your phone via usb, wait for it to connect and press root, then your done

Boost Mobile Galaxy S2 SPH-D710BST

Ok, I'm sincerely hoping the mods don't flame me for posting this thread, but I wanted to talk about the experience I had getting a Sprint ROM flashed over and working properly on a Boost Galaxy S2. I've looked and most of the threads regarding this phone are in the "EPIC 4G TOUCH" threads. And yes, while the Boost Galaxy S2 is identical to its Sprint twin, it has been a bit of a pain for me to get it rooted and running a custom ROM on Boost, as most of the ROM's out there are designed for Sprint. I wanted to start this thread to let anyone else know the steps I had to take to get this thing up and running 100% on Boost Mobile.
First, I used a root guide (the link to which I cannot post the link because I'm a new user) at AndoidForums posted by guyphs (much thanks to you) to get it rooted. This method uses an AGAT kernel and recovery, which I don't particularly care for. So the next step was to flash CWM, which wasn't difficult, it just took two tries to flash and work correctly. Once you're rooted and have your custom recovery running, **MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP*** (TRUST ME, this will come in handy later).
Once it was running, I got Paranoid Android 2.56 from you fine folks here on XDA. Once I flashed it, the problems began. The first thing was a MMS problem (which is common), but CM-based Paranoid Android doesn't like to let you use the dialer codes to edit the MMS proxy settings to fix this. You actually have to open the Voice Dialer then speak "Open APN's" to edit these thing. Once you delete all the old APN's, you can create a new one based on the original Boost Settings (which you should have written down before you started all this mess), After that the MMS started working.
Then I noticed that I wasn't getting a 3G or 4G Data connection. Come to find out, the Sprint ROM flashed a different modem version, so I had to find a different modem that was compatible. That turned out to be the FI27 Modem. Once I flashed this modem, the data connection was restored, but I noticed that the 3G/4G data speeds were HORRIBLE and the signal strength was very low. But the ROM and everything was working correctly so I made another Nandroid Backup (more on that in a minute)
Turns out, I had an old PRL. The newest Boost PRL is #61009 but the one I had was a Sprint PRL. Since I know jack-squat about CDMA workshop and editing/flashing PRL's, I wanted to find an easier way. Turns out there is a WAY easier way. Just use your aforementioned Nandroid Backup (the first one) to flash back to Stock ROM w/root. Once the phone reboots, your PRL will be updated to 61009 when the Network sees the new device connecting.
As soon as the PRL updated, I simply flashed back to my Paranoid Android image, and BANG! everything is working smooth as silk and super fast. I didn't lose the PRL or the FI27 modem during the flashing back to PA.
And I only pay $50 a month. no more getting the shaft from Verizon, and I was one of the "lucky ones" to have Unlimited Data.
**MODS. Sorry if I posted something that was posted before. I searched but couldn't find any post along these lines. Just wanted to let the folks know about how to get this sucker running like a champ.

,,,,,,,,,,you can get all of these for our phone at [ it has them all. Btw if anyone can post in development. Please let me know. Our phone is not supported by mobile Odin. Its a shame. It would make life a lot easier for us. Ty Won't let me post link. So Google rwilco12 android repository. I don't understand why its so difficult here to help people. Anyway Google that and you should hit on his page. if not pm me. Hopefully I'll have some freedom there..good luck guy and post back
I like Rwilco12's repository. It's a great place to find individual files when you don't know where else to look.
I also understand how.you feel about posting links and such here.. I know why those rules exist, but I really can't see how posting helpful links is somehow a 'bad thing'. I could understand if I were posting links to garbage.. But when the intent of the post is purely beneficial, I think you should be allowed to post a link...even if it's the first post you've ever made in the forums.

**MODS. Sorry if I posted something that was posted before. I searched but couldn't find any post along these lines. Just wanted to let the folks know about how to get this sucker running like a champ.

Try this it worked for me ..flash in recovery...it should do the trick
I was noticing after some testing using the PA Rom that my 4G speeds were noticeably slower. I had never really tested them before while I was running the Stock Rom, so I didn't have a baseline to go off of, thus I didn't really know what kind of speeds to expect from Boost/Sprint.
So on the PA Rom with the FI27 modem, I would average between 500-800kbps download speeds over 3G. With 4G, the average was about 1.5-2mbps.
To test, I went back to the Stock Rom, unrooted, and was getting close to 1.5mbps down on 3G and 7-10mbps on 4G.
After rooting, the data speeds were painfully slow. About 50kbps down on 3G and 200kbps down on 4G! Ouch..
I read on here, that custom kernels will destroy Data speeds..I can confirm this.. lol
So I flashed this kernel from SexTape(much thanks) over at SXTP Developers: SXTP_Agat_BSTFI22-v0.1.0.zip WHICH, fixed all my borked data speeds.
This kernel comes with the custom recovery from Agat63(thanks for all your hard work Bro!) so if you're running the Stock FI22 Rom, all you have to do is flash this and SuperUser, and you're ROOTED.
Only thing is, my Baseband and Bulid Number now show up as FL24, not FI22. But don't really care, as long as my phone is stable and running as fast over the mobile data network as it is now.
Thanks to Sextape and Agat63 for their work on this phone.

If everything else is showing FL24 - which is the current Boost build - you may want the FL24 kernel + repack. Has a few more tweaks than the stock FI22... not to mention the Exynos exploit patched:

This is what I'm showing now under About Phone. Is this correct or do you think I need the FL24 repack.

Have to check but think that kernel is fi22 compile as I didn't remove the dirty flag.

I flashed the FL24 v2.0 you linked to.. My data speeds were WAY lower than what i was getting with the FI22 v1.0 kernel repack.
I flashed back this morning because I use my Nexus 7 tethered to my SGS2 at work and wouldn't be able to tolerate low data speeds.lol

Flash the kernel in Odin or Mobile Odin, then the zip in Agat's recovery.

I was never rooted before this. This is my first attempt at rooting my device will your link still work? And i cannot flash via ODIN because my windows will not recognize my phone, i am trying to figure out how to use Heimdall on my mac, do i just flash the same file in heimdall?
I think i figured out how to install via heimdall, i must extract the .tar and i end up with a zImage, then i use cli to flash heimdall: heimdall flash --kernel zImage
I will let you know my results, thanks garwynn.
edit: worked like a charm. device is rooted now thanks a bunch dude. that really helped out
Garwynn, has anyone had any luck getting Google Now working with this ROM? If it's deodexed, we should just be able to flash it over right?

[Q] EVO 4G - FreedomPop - Custom ROM - Update Profile

I recently set up FreedomPop on my EVO 4G and everything worked OK. Shortly thereafter I installed Cyanmobile ROM and everything still worked. After a while though I could no longer dial calls. I could still use the 4G for data though. Apparently the profile needs to be updated from time to time.
I did some looking around and found that cyanogen didn't have a way to update the profile file and that to do it you had to backup cyanogen , install a stock ROM, uptate the profile file, then restore cyanogen. I also found a post
http://blog.ryantadams.com/2013/03/03/updating-prl-from-within-cyanogenmod/
That discussed why cyanogen couldn't install the update and proposed a way to do this by creating a contact with a specific dial code that you can call that will update the PRL file. The post discussed the code for Verizon and there was a comment about Sprint and the reply was that he thought it was simply *2,,,,,2 and suggested contacting the provider to find out.
I tried *2,,,,,2 and it didn't work. I contacted FreedomPop and all I could get out of them that the phone service is connected though the FreedomPop messaging application. I thought I could de-compile this app and then do a search for a string starting with a "*". I tried that but didn't find anything.
Does anyone know if this method works and what the code is, how to find out what the code is, or anything about this?
Also, is there a way to update the profile from adb?
There's no way to update Profile from a non-Sprint-based Sense ROM that I'm aware of. I just use Boot Manager to switch between ROMs when I need to update Profile/PRL.

Not exactly dual boot. It'll run a ROM from your sd card, essentially. The app is on the Play Store.

would like that
At the time I posted this I was using an EVO 4G and FP was using the Sprint Wimax network. Because of some hardware problems (USB port and main board or screen connectors) with my phone and the fact that Sprint/FP were switcing to Lte I switched to a FP Samsung Galaxy S3, which among other things came rooted. Because of this I never followed though on this advice. I can't help with a copy of the stock ROM either, but, I'm sure it is around.
You comment was timely though, because I'm on the verge of installing CM on the S3. I went to CM on the othe phone mainly because of low memory memory issues. When KitKat was updated to 4.4.2 they made it so that third party apps can't write the the SD card. They've since fixed their fix for KitKat for newer phones anyway, but, the S3 is stuck with 4.4.2. Theres and app that is supposed to fix it, but, it doesn't work, on my phone anyway.
The new CM still doesn't allow updating PRL/Profiles, so I was trying to remember the advice from this post.
I had remembered that there was a dual boot approach to switch back to stock for PRL/Profile updates. The MultiROM TWRP recovery is not compatible with my phone, but, I did find:
[TOOL] [MultiSystem] MultiROM and Recovery Replacement for Android
It is described in: xda-developers Android Development and Hacking Android Software and Hacking General [Developers Only] [TOOL] [MultiSystem] MultiROM and Recovery Replacement for Android by hsbadr.
It looks like what will work with the phone I have now. I will look into it futher.
I found an old freedompop usb stick in my draw, can I use it for my htc evo 4g too?
if anyone's needing the freedompop rom let me know. I would post it but don't have it uploaded yet if theres anyone that needs it though ill take the time to get it online

Spring GS3 4.4 ROMs

Hello,

I'd like a ROM that is stable with lots of users.
I currently have a v4.3 ROM and have ClockworkMod Recovery on my phone.
Any suggestions?

I haven't run it myself, was just pointing out where to download for the other user. Not a fan of Slim actually, hated it on a previous phone (different Android build as well), but a lot of users are pretty diehard about it. Personally, I'm all about the LiquidSmooth, with Beanstalk and AICP at the top of the list as well. However, if the lovely @Jessooca recommends, you can 100% rely on that recommendation (OK, 99.99%, little inside joke for her!).

Yeah, there have been lots of issues with the unified builds for the last two or three weeks for the ROMs that have gone with d2lte. The three I mentioned (LS, Beanstalk, and AICP) are favorites of mine right now because of a lack of issues in terms of data connectivity. My personal experience on others, like Carbon and CM11, is that LTE is fine, but they won't connect to 3G no matter what I try. This is an issue because I only have LTE access at my house, which is worthless because I use WiFi at home. At work, or whenever else I'm in town, there's no LTE, so 3G access is a must. I suppose it's a case of "flash it and see if it works" on any given ROM right now.

If you have working data (LTE & 3G) on your current ROM, make sure to make a backup of your APN settings just in case, apparently a lot of the users, on any ROM, who have experienced issues have had to fiddle with their APN settings to get things working again. Doesn't hurt to flash a stock based ROM for this purpose as well, and know how to do a PRL/Profile update on stock based also. There is a really good app on the Play Store called APN Backup and Restore for this purpose, it needs to be in the /system/priv-app file in order to work properly on KitKat just FYI.

Thanks for the info. However, that's my ordeal. Ever since I switched to CM 11 drlte from drspr I get no LTE. It's always on 3G, and I live in a 4G/LTE area. I like the ROM very much but I thought I'm paying for 4G/LTE service and I'm not getting any. Might as well find something that works (at least temporarily), until they sort it out.

In that case I would highly recommend booting up any stock based ROM in order to do an update to your PRL and Profile. Once booted up, open the phone app and dial ##72786#. The phone will do two reboots, and then you will be good to go. Don't touch anything until it has definitely finished the procedure. Not saying that this will enable LTE on CM11, but sometimes users have retained data issues when switching ROMs until they have done this procedure, i.e. another ROM that doesn't have LTE issues may not show LTE connectivity until you update PRL/Profile.

Yo! by the way, I don't know if it's my device or kit kat, but I've tried liquid smooth and this rom, and for some reason everything displays kinda blurry, or like low res on the screen. Yeah, this is a problem with CyanogenMod 11. It was not a problem with VILLUMINATI. Maybe Dastin can help fix the issue in the main CyanogenMod build?
Here essentially is the problem and what I've found to be the solution - the LCD density settings are incorrect. It is set by default to 220, but that density doesn't seem to match the screen's native resolution. I read online somewhere that for the S2 the setting should be 240. It's not intuitive, but lower numbers actually result in higher resolutions. Because this phone's screen isn't as sharp/has a lower Pixel Per Inch (ppi) count than some of the later model phones, it needs the high 240 number to get the lower resolution to match what the screen natively displays (hopefully I just said that correctly). Anyway, when you get the correct resolution settings, even if they aren't as "high" things become less blurry and look sharper, since the native resolution is correct.
So, how to change this? Here goes:
Download the "File Explorerer ES" app (it's free) from the app store.
Open the app
Click the menu icon in the top left.
Expand "Tools"
Turn on "Root Explorer" (and give the app root access whenever you get prompted... you'll need root to edit the system file).
At the top of the screen, click on "Storage".
At the top of the screen, click on "/". The goal here is to get to the root (aka /) of your filesystem, where the file we want is.
The top of the screen should now say "Device". If so, scroll down the list until you find the file called "system", and then open it.
Scroll down again and select the "build.prop" file.
It will probably ask what program you want to use to open it with. Pick "ES Note Editor".
In the top right of the editor, click the settings icon, then pick the "edit" option.
Scroll down the file until you find the line that says "ro.sf.lcd_density=220". Change that so that the number is 240.
Click the back arrow at the top left of the editor. You should be prompted on whether you want to save. Click yes.
Reboot your phone. When you log back into it again, you should see clearer icons.
thanx

Blank APN list
My SPH-D710 on Ting isn't getting 3g or LTE since flashing to CM 11. I've tried a number of different radios including ICS, GB, and JB with no luck. If I look in the APN list under Mobile Networks the list is completely blank and if I try resetting the list to defaults nothing is restored. I've tried factory resetting the phone several times and each time I clear all the caches, etc. Does anyone have a trick I can try?
Yes. First flash a stock ROM. Update prl profiles and whatever until ting works. You'll hopefully have 3g and lte doesn't matter because it won't work on this phone after jelly bean. Then flash whatever you like.

SMS Issues
Hi:
FWIW, I have been suffering these same text-messaging issues since going to CyanogenMod 11 on my SPH-D710 a few months back. I also recall seeing at least 1 or 2 other users on the older 'Villumiati' thread with similar issues, never resolved to my knowledge. I'm also on the FL24 modem, and re-flashed that as well a month or so ago to no avail. I have found that I can 'refresh' my text messages by going into "airplane mode" and then turning the radio back on, but this is not a very practical solution. Also, in case it might be a factor, I should include that my Sprint account is configured to use Google voice so that I can see/reply to SMS messages online. I'd appreciate any/all ideas as to how to 'fix' this issue, as it has caused all sort of social 'problems' related to not getting messages. (Also, I cannot send messages when this problem occurs, resulting in more time going in-and-out of airplane mode just to send a simple message).
(edit: this posted to a different forum - the above was in reference to posts #205-207 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/epi...anogenmod-11-official-nightly-t2852074/page21)
Dastin, thanks again for everything that you do!

I am rooted on a stock 4.3 with AGAT recovery. Do I just need to load an AOSP kernel and then flash CM 11? Is it that simple, or do I need to load a different modem as well?
Thanks!

SuperSU crashing
It appears that after flashing the latest nightly of CM11, my phone has lost root. SuperSU is installed, but no apps can are using it. I can't modify the /etc/hosts file on my phone. Is there something that I need to do other than flashing superSU from the recovery menu to get root working? I also checked one of the free root checkers from the play store and it also said that my phone wasn't rooted.
I came from Touched by S4 ROM, made sure to default and wipe everything before moving to CM11. While on touched by S4, I had root.
TIA for any assistance.

3g

Yes. First flash a stock ROM. Update prl profiles and whatever until ting works. You'll hopefully have 3g and lte doesn't matter because it won't work on this phone after jelly bean. Then flash whatever you like.

Hi linux guy,
Thanks for your note up, but unfortunately I followed your steps reverted back to stock GB28 where everything including 3g was working perfectly and then flashed CM11 with ICS modem but all I get is a 3g icon on the signal bar but there is no actual internet?!!, is shows connected but no net!
My camera will not take video! Anyone have the solution to this problem?
Did you try using a different resolution? I know mine would only take 480, until i flashed this new kernel...

APNs in Dec. nightlies
Latest nightlies (12/20, 12/23, 12/24) lost ability to send text completely. Send button is grayed out and does nothing. Thought it might be due to the change in APN settings. Going to settings - mobile networks - apns does nothing. Read back through the thread several times and resetting apns back to default does nothing, the choices to choose sprint, boost, VM, or ting never appears. Tried wiping /system, /data, and /cache and installing fresh. Still same results. Restoring back to my last known working nightly (11/23) texting works fine again without ever going to APN settings.
Am I missing something?
4G WiMax?
Please tell! Do you mean you actually have 4G WiMax working on CM 11 with this kernel???
 @dirtyhewr
I sent some screens of the difference between before and after on the kernel's thread...

... This phone now runs better than it ever has... No lags at all anymore! I am running cm nightly with the trim+FPbug kernel... AND 4g still works... Anytime i have flashed another kernel on this ROM, 4g stops working...
... Also, and i don't know if it has anything to do with kernel, it must, but i can now record 1080hd with the camcorder... I have never been able to do that before!
Make sure you thank @Lanchon for his work here... This is huge for this device!

Does 4G work on the 11-12-14 SNAPSHOT build? Which nightly do I need to use to get 4G WiMax up and running again? When I first updated to 4.4.4 a long time ago, WiMax was killed by upgrading beyond 4.2.2 forever.
