Anyone had to get a replacement under warranty? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering if you got a refurb or not. Part of me thinks the phone may not have been out long enough for them to have refurbs.
Anyway I have a weird washed out area on my screen and I will probably end up getting a replacement. In the past I have had back luck with refurbs, so part of me wants to deal with it

Guaranteed they have refurbs. Every time someone decides they don't like the g3 in first 15 days and theyexchange it, it becomes a refurb..

So here is my conundrum...

I have an Evo, and I love it despite it's minor flaws...
However, I have been suffering from the screen leaking issue from day one and it is just getting worse. This will no doubt lead to bigger things so I want to take care of it under the 30 day warranty (I didn't pay $200 to get a refurb). I bought my phone from a Walmart, because no one else had any and wasn't going to have any for like a week. I went back to the Walmart tonight to exchange the phone, they hadn't sold any more of the Evo, I had the been the only person to buy one lol. Since they haven't sold any I have no guarantee that the other phones won't do the same thing, as they are probably from the same batch of phones.
The tech there told me I should hold off until closer to the end of my 30 days in hopes of getting a newer unit, as he had been reading about the issues the current Evos are having. He also told me not to feel so bad as he whipped out his iPhone4 and showed me the magic disappearing reception trick (I wanted to laugh so hard).
So, some questions...
1. Should I just return my phone near the end of the 30 days and wait for a product refresh? (I kinda like the white model that best buy is gearing to sell)
2. I have another phone on my contract, but I assume they are technically separate contracts and that Sprint will simply let me cancel one while keeping the other. Does this sound accurate?

Exchanges with TMO

TMO will be shipping me a refurbished phone for the one I have that's experiencing loose hinge syndrome. I'm pissed that I won't be getting a new one for this. Has anyone else gone through this for the G2? I'm worried about getting another one that's going to have a loose hinge, even though they said this shouldn't have that problem.

I'm pretty sure if you search this forum, you will find at least 5-10 other threads talking about only the hinge and whether the problem exists or doesn't and experiences through exchanges, returns, etc.

I know there are other threads going into detail about the loose hinge on the G2, and I've already participated in most of them with my loose hinge issue. However, this thread was created to find out what people's experience with exchanging their G2 with TMO. I know some have major problems with the hinge and others have no issues whatsoever. I am just a bit upset/irritated that I was told by this TMO rep this is "a known issue and we're fully aware of it," yet they're going to send a refurbished phone instead of a new one. Yes, I know I could end up getting a phone that's in worse condition than my current one, but the point I'm trying to make is that it shouldn't be that way. Sure, if I bought this phone the day it was released and I just experienced this issue, I wouldn't have a problem doing an exchange or even sending it in for repairs. But since this phone is one week old, I just wasn't expecting to hear the word "refurb" come out of this person's mouth.
So, if anyone here has gone through an exchange for their G2, did you end up with a new one or a refurbished one? If you received a refurbished one, was it in good condition with little to no signs of wear & tear?

If the phone is only a week old, you could exchange it under buyer's remorse.
Like I said in the other thread,... a refurbished is not good enough. Get some legal advice if at all possible.

Exchanged mine and got a brand new one mailed to me, no refurb. As far as the hinge it was about the same, but it never bothered me in the first place, You paid for a new one and now are getting a refurb in exchange, doesnt sound quite legal?
Are they giving you some money back for the price diffrence for a refurb model? Ive never had a problem with T-mobiles customer service, matter a fact, today I just got them to drop two of my lines to unlimtied andriod data for $20 each, but I had to talk to a customer loyalty rep. I think you should probably call them back and ask to speak to a Supervisor. Thats like buying a new car and taking it back and getting a used one for the same price.

I experienced major issues with the phone and exchanged it a total of FOUR times, meaning I had in my possession (not at once) a total of five MT4Gs. The first four phones had incredibly bad creaking buttons, the fifth one had perfect buttons but a washed out display. I refused to continue going the route of MT4G swapping, so they suggested me going with a different phone, and I chose the G2. The G2 they sent me arrived last week, brand new in a prestine unopened box. The hinge was perfect, not too tight and definitely not loose like it is now. Each day it got a little bit looser, and now it's just ridiculously loose to the point that it opens no matter how I hold it.
So, maybe they're shipping me this refurb because I've already gone through so many exchanges, but two of their top phones have so many issues that it just makes me sick. With all the issues with the G2, MT4G and Vibrant, I'm shocked I haven't heard about any lawsuits against TMO. Or at the very least, I think TMO should be proactive about this and admit that there are problems with these phones, and that they should be more than willing to do whatever it takes to make sure the customer is happy. I have to say I was treated very well during all those MT4G exchanges, and I feel they did everything they could to make sure I was a happy customer. But, I'm still not thrilled being told that I need to accept a refurb for a G2 that was technically brand new and just one week old.
That totally sucks. I got the first two G2s the cs rep. that I was dealing with had ever sold. I feel lucky I have never experienced the loose hinge syndrom everyone is talkng about. Sorry for your troubles, I would get totally pissed and threaten a cancel if I were you.

The problem is, 95% of the population would never return the phones for the problems you described on your Mytough 4g slide.
The XDA community is a community of people with a tendency to experience obsessive like symptoms about their gadgets, unfortunately.

A week old?? Call them on "buyers remorse!!" They will be forced to send you a brand new one in retail packaging! I did that with a keyboard issue I had when it started within the 15 day period.
The only thing is, they will charge you full contract price but will refund it when they get the old one back. But check your bill closely to make sure they refund it properly. I had to jump through hoops twice to get mine in order.
Don't use regular warrentee replacement on a device that new. Its their own policy to make sure you are completely satisfied with your purchase. You could even get something else if you pay the difference. But g2 devs are the best.

My first G2 had a bad trackpad. I received it on a Thursday and I called them that Saturday. The tech at TMo told me to do a buyers remorse exchange and transferred me to CS.
I received what appeared to be a brand new G2, but with a funky gmail addy with even funkier calendar entries. Was strange, but everything else was fine...
I sent back the first G2 the same day I got the replacement, bill came out a week later. Still waiting for it to come off my bill, but I know TMo will take care of it.
Or you could just go into a store and do the buyers remorse exchange with less of a headache.

it would be nice if all TMo reps gave the same information..
I ordered over the phone, and on a complete whim- on an unrelated call, they offered me to go from EMP back to EM and we all got new phones on a new contract- and BOGO at that! when I called with issues, they told me I could go to the store and exchange it painlessly, or go through what I am, which is still no big deal. the rep said they could call the store ahead of time and let them know what to do when I came in.
the only reason I didn't go to a store is because I'm in Maine, and though they have a call center here, there are no actual corporate stores in Maine, or within 50 miles of me. (don't even get me started on the service- I have to pay for a 4G data plan, and I only get GPRS where I live, and the "partner-service" doesn't work on my G2, but works fine, and he has better signal, on a frikin Vibrant)

[Q] One stuck green pixel!

I've had my GS3 for a few months now. A few days ago I noticed a single green pixel stuck in the "on" position. I was able to press and rub the screen enough that it went away. Well, now it's back and the pressing and rubbing doesn't help. I'd really like to fix this issue without the hassle of unrooting and returning/exchanging. I did install this free app called Dead Pixel Detect and Fix, which is suppose to help with stuck/dead pixels. I've ran the fix for two nights in a row and I have to say the green pixel is less noticeable, (if that's even possible). I may run it a few more times just to see if it diminishes even more, but has anyone else had this issue? Found success in fixing the issue?
After a few days my screen issue has not improved. I decided to go through the hassle of unrooting and returning my phone to Sprint. I called my local Sprint store this morning and was told by the woman working that since I don't have insurance I'd have to deal directly with the manufacturer, and send in my phone for repair or possible exchange. When I informed her that would leave me with out a phone, (for possibly a long while) she just acknowledged the fact and basically had the attitude of it's my problem to deal with.
Does this seem right to anyone? True I do not have insurance but it is clearly a manufacturer's or component defect of a 2-month old phone. Why won't Sprint send it back to the manufacturer and give me a loaner phone in the meantime? Any advice would be clearly appreciated.
Im not sure what you want Sprint to do for you. You don't have insurance what else is there left to be said? Maybe next time you get a new phone you'll have some type of insurance.
As far as a loner goes just look in Craigslist for cheap ass Sprint phone, I'm sure you could find one for 20 or 30 bucks.

Do you work for Sprint? I don't think I'm being unreasonable. I'm not asking for Sprint to fork over a new phone. Just a loaner phone so I can send my phone to Samsung for repair.
Anyone else have any suggestions besides finding a 20 dollar phone on Craigslist. ?
Sprint sells refurbished phones on its website that reqhire no contract extension.

Last time I had a manufacturers defect on a phone with Sprint, they ordered me another one and I kept mine until it arrived. You may check with the store and ask them.

sent phone back to lg for repair

Quick question. My G3 developed a screen fault on the 6th so i rang three for repair. LG sent out all the envelopes, padded and special delivery so i sent the phone back on the 9th which they signed for on the 11th. Apparrently that isnt the day they count their 3-5 days from, as that starts at the point it gets to the technicians. I spoke to a guy on monday whio simply said its with the technicians and to wait...its a pain in the backside as i am phoneless, am paying for a contract that i cant use and see no timescales. the guy on the phone on monday wasnt much help (though not his fault i suppose) but as im going away next week i kinda want the phone back before i go. has anyone sent their phones back to LG and got it back quick or is it looking unlikely that it will be back by next week? Its a pain as they havent told me a thing, havent said if they are going to mail me, ring me etc. not good though that its lasted less than a month before needing repair, after my very light usage of it. should i keep ringing them to chase them along?
Also had a bad screen. After two months the middle of the screen just stopped worked, in a horizontal line.
Called my reseller and said that it could take one month maximum to get it fixed (she couldnt say anything more in detail). Thats insane, imo. Especially since its here in Sweden and bought from a well known reseller with quick and good support. But yeah, i sent it to LGs service center.

Apparrently it has been repaired and is being returned today so i should get it backl in the next day or 2...lets see if they say what was wrong with it?

Keep or Replace Refurb LG G4? Original G4 bootlooped last week

Verizon LG G4 purchased right after release in 2015. Bootlooped last Monday 10/10, replacement arrived Saturday through Verizon's service center in Texas. Serial number on replacement starts with 506, which I believe means assembled June 2015. I presume it was refurbished due to motherboard failure associated with bootloop.
I don't have a landline and the lack of a smartphone last week was damaging to my business and personal life. I need to know if the replacement G4 models are reliable or not.
If I get rid of the G4 preferences are either HTC 10 or Google Pixel. Would wait for reviews if the Pixel. Verizon currently offers $300 credit if I trade the G4 in for either of these.

I would go for a Pixel. G4 is great phone but Pixel is the only phone I would trade me G4 for

Can't say. There are people who've had problems with refurbs just months after. A better option is if they replace the motherboard with new instead of refurb. serial would start with 6 in that case.
Do you have the option to ask for that instead? ie send it back in again and have them put a new board in. More reliable than a refurb.

I'd have a backup phone at all times, just good practice. problems can happen any time, you could lose it or have it stolen.

I do not think Verizon would be willing to replace the unit again unless it fails. Since I purchased the unit at its release in June 2015, technically the warranty had expired when the bootloop happened last week. For US customers I believe the policy is for Verizon to replace devices due to the defect even beyond warranty period. Also, I asked and was told the warranty on the replacement device is 12 months. My latest idea is to play lots of demanding games like Riptide GP and Real Racing 3 to stress test it. Perhaps this will reveal if the hardware is faulty. If the replacement device bootloops I plan to ask Verizon for a different device.
Keeping a spare Android phone around is something I had not considered before. Too bad, wife switched to iPhone recently and we sold her old HTC one M8. I should have kept that one.
I'm in the same situation. Although mine hasn't bootlooped yet. It has randomly rebooted at least twice in the past three days since doing a software update where the phone got very hot. I just want it fixed or replaced before it starts bootlooping.
I'm considering calling Verizon and asking them if they can replace the phone with something else with no charge to me. I'm pretty sure that they can give me a refurbished G4. But there's no guarantee that it won't experience the same problem.
If I go through Lg, it could take up to a week and half and I really can't go that long without a phone. LG told me to go to my carrier and ask for a loaner phone while I send this one in to have the main board replaced.
I'm pretty confident that LG will fix it, but Verizon I'm not so sure about.
I also bought this phone on Swappa brand new. I also don't have any insurance on it. These two reason alone don't give me much hope that Verizon is going to help me. And also because I'm paying payments to them and it's not the original phone that I started the payments on.

So an update.
I called Verizon and they ran diagnostics on my phone over the phone. They said my battery temp seemed slightly high. They gave me instructions on how to diagnose it further.
First they said to reboot into safe mode. Basically you hold down the power button, then long press power off. Then you get a pop up to boot into safe mode. This is so you can rule out any third party apps causing the issues. This limits you to use only the apps that came installed on it. I thought to myself, how in the world am I going to be able to use this phone enough to replicate it rebooting. Sure enough when I went to charge the phone, I opened up chrome to browse around all while listening to music and it rebooted by itself. So that rules out any apps causing it. So the next step is to take it into a Verizon location, not a retail store, and they can give me a warranty replacement. The reason they told me to try it in safe mode was if they replaced it and there wasn't anything wrong with the hardware, they would charge me. This way they can replace it for free.
The guy that I talked to was super helpful and understanding. It was the best service I've ever received from them. I was even behind in my payments, and he didn't even pressure me into making a payment.
I also asked if it would be possible to get my phone replaced with something different. He said if they replace my G4 twice, then they would more than likely be able to get me into a different phone. I told him I totally understood and that I wasn't just trying to get a new phone. I shared with him my apprehension in getting another G4 because it's likely to happen again.
So, once I'm able to make a payment to get my bill current, I'll be heading into a Verizon location and hopefully be walking out with a replacement G4.
And I was worried that they wouldn't even work with me because I didn't buy my phone from them or another big retailer.
Just thought I'd share my experience in case anyone is interested in knowing what the options are.

I can't speak for the replacement G4s but I will say that I sent mine (Verizon version) in to LG about 6 or 7 months ago and they did the motherboard swap (or however they fix the boot loop) and I've had no issues with it since. Getting it fixed was free as well since LG had fully acknowledged there was a hardware problem.
Mine bootlooped two days ago and I went to a Verizon store and they ordered a warranty replacement that I received the very next day. It's working great so far. The phone looks brand new. They just sent me the phone. No battery, back cover or charger. But it seems like performance is quicker and battery life seems to be better and more consistent.
