Hello there.
Maybe it's really easy, but I've been unable to disable phone and messaging in the tablet.
Is there any way to do that? I don't want "X missed calls" notifications in the tablet (I share the same number between my phone and tablet)
Thanks in advance.

Thanks, but I'd like to be able to use wifi (or mobile network if wifi is not available). I just don't like having to dismiss SMS and missed calls notifications both in the phone and the tablet.
You can still use WiFi.

How could I do that?
I froze "Phone" with Titanium Backup and still get missed calls notifications. BTW, I get those even if I answer the call on my phone.

Actually, after trying this, it has proven good enough for me. I didn't know you could have WiFi enabled in flight mode.
I can use WiFi most of the time and only enable the mobile network when I really need it, minimizing the odds of getting notifications.
Thanks a lot
I was looking for a sepearte switch for data and phone(voice calls) ...

Maybe it is only me but why do you have a LTE tablet if you don't want to take advantage of what LTE has to offer why not just get a wifi only tablet

It's not that complicated. I want to be able to browse the web and download docs on the go. I don't like having to dismiss notifications for texts and lost calls in the tablet when I never ever intend to answer those calls or texts from the tablet.
Are you serious? Yes. But not mobile data which is the point here.

After calling 911 the other night for an emergency my phone wouldn't let me use data for 5 minutes. I tried to turn WiFi on and it would not connect either. Did a battery pull and replaced it with fully charged battery and still - wouldn't let me do any data until this Emergency Callback Mode timer expired.
Just wanted to let everyone know...
Seems like the "authentication" issue that was going around for awhile. Phone failed to authenticate with the network or just couldn't find a signal.

I don't think it was an auth issue, more like a feature. Blackberry users have had the same thing. On a BB you can make a regular call and clear the timer, not so on my Nexus.

That's neat. So your data connection can't interfere with anything if 911 tries to call you back.

Very smart.
after a few minutes the phone will alert you that it is out of emergency mode. a very cool feature i think.
it happened to me when i called 911 on my original droid.
I wonder if this is the same for 999 or 112?

Forgive me if this has been asked before. I did search and didn't find an answer. Is there a way to prevent NFC from being disabled in airplane mode? I currently use a tag at work to turn airplane mode on when I get to my desk. I have virtually zero signal and no wifi, so leaving airplane mode off eats a lot of battery in the order of 25% or more an hour. I would like to be able to just tap the tag when I leave to turn everything on. I have tried a simple task in tasker (Status=Airplane mode on -> enable NFC), but its sketchy at best. I know the nfc.apk has been modded to enable at lockscreen and at screen off conditions. Could the nfc.apk be modded to survive airplane mode, or would that hack be somewhere else. If it matters, I'm on an AT&T Galaxy SIII running the stock rom, rooted.
On my Galaxy Nexus, I'm able to go into the menu and enable NFC once I activate aeroplane mode; is it different for the S3? Or are you looking for an automatic solution?
I'm looking for an automatic solution. I can manually enable this too.
I am also looking to do this, or find a work around that turns off everything airplane mode does except NFC

I added this to NFC Task Launcher - essentially there is a comma delimited string that tells Airplane Mode what radios to toggle. If you remove nfc from this list the broadcast receiver for the nfc service doesn't disable it when airplane mode changed is broadcast. It only scans this setting on boot though so you'll need to change it and then reboot.

Go to app settings and see if dialer is installed. If its, then its hidden and use Dialer+ from playstore. Or factory reset might bring back dialer. Also you can try install others launchers, like Nova launcher too see if dialer is there. In mine HK firmware some apps are hidden ik appdrawer and not in Nova Launcher. Dont know why, but try it out.
Voice calls use 2G/3G net and 4G is just for data. Maybe u sim or operator dont support 2g/3g or whatever and try out Dialer+ first. See if it works.

That e screen i posted it's called screenshot, you can do it passing one hand from left to right of the screen
Or you can download Google voice and groove IP. Together they work to make phone calls over WiFi.

Russell,
Yea that's what I'm doing right now. I downloaded the Dialer and Nova Launch like what DT33 indicated above but the device doesn't want to make a phone call. It just beeps and does nothing. I ended up using Google Voice and Groove IP. I just don't know how people were able to use their device to make phone calls, cuz I can't. Mine is model SM-P605V from Verizon. It is a 4G LTE model and I used a Sim card from my 4G LTE phone. I swapped it over.

You could say it was SM-P605V from beginning.
Verizon have blocked voice calls probably on the tab and cant make any voice calls with it. Since as I already wrote, 4G is just for data and no support for voice calls. Call Verizon and ask if the tab can make any voice calls. Also what it needs to make voice calls with the tab.
Isnt that US operator does blocked voice calls made from tablets? Remember that I read it from somewhere?
Ahhh, OK, I should have put SM-P605V. I think you're right, with the Verizon version, I cannot make voice calls. But at least now I know that Groove IP + Google Voice works. Thank you very much for your help.

When you open Contacts, the dialer should be part of it. Dont you see these tabs when you open contacts?
I dont have my tablet with me right now but you should see something similar with this when you open Contacts: Phone (Dialer), Groups, Favorites, Contacts?
Then just click the Phone tab above.
Jinda,
I have the SM-P605V from Verizon. And on my Contacts list, I don't see the "Phone" tab. I guess Verizon disabled this some how. But that's okay. I will use Groove IP + GV to make calls. Thanks for your help.

All the U.S. carriers strip out the Dialer and Messaging apps from their 3/4G tablets. You can't see them because they aren't there. Folks have tried to install the necessary files from international versions on their U.S. devices but never got the functions to work. So what you have is what you have to live with. Those features are why I have a SM-P601 rather than a carrier device.

It's super weird my friend has the same phone and he has it
Yea I also had it, I have switched CSCs too though from carrier CSC to unlocked, maybe why for me although I've done that on all my Samsung phones and always still had WiFi calling
Read some people saying factory resetting brought the option back, but I never really needed it, very rare I lose signal in the house which was why I didn't enable it

Hey guys,
Trying on this more active forum...
I just bought the S21+, overall great phone except couple of issue with Android Auto and Whatsapp.
I was able to fix the Android Auto issue (wouldn't connect, had to remove the latest Google Chrome updates) but the whatsapp issue is above my paygrade.
I scanned the QR code and everything works but as soon as the phone screen goes black, whatsapp is slow and disconnects often. Not completely disconnected as after I send a message perhaps 10/15 seconds later it gets set but still not responsive as before (S8+)
Any idea?
you can try other software to watch network connection status, if no problem, maybe that's compitability issue on s21+

Not sure if you managed to fix this but in case you haven't.
You need to make WhatsApp a non-optimized app in the battery settings. That way WA will consume as much battery as needed to stay alive and to connect to WA Web.
