[Q] [HELP] Very long boot time - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have always used Viper ROM and I upgraded to 2.01 once it came it. Fooshily, I did not upgrade the firmware (noob, not a newb) because I couldn't figure it out. I finally got it downgraded to stock, then did the OTA to upgrade the firmware. The phone started flawlessly until I flashed Viper 2.01. I (luckily) backed it up before this time and tried flashing Android Revolution. I still had long boot times. I understand most of this stuff, but I always seem to run into problems. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Tampered
Unlocked
S-ON (couldn't get this)
AT&T
Early model, possibly release
I'm at work now but I could post more info later. Thank you, everyone.
Also, I would prefer to use Viper, if that matters.

Help getting back to factory settings

I am on the verge of throwing my partners Desire out the window... I have spent hours trying to get it out of Safe Mode by upgrading ROMs' Rooting it and installing Custom ROMS...
Nothing has helped get around Safe Mode.
So I now need to get it back to the factory/T-Mobile shipped settings so that it can be returned because as far as I am concerned the damn thing is faulty.
I have just tried installing using RUU the UK TMO 1.15 and 1.21 ROMS, but now all I get is... Error 155 Unknown Error. At the moment phone is rooted using Unrevoked and running NextSense ROM so I need to clear all of this before taking the thing back
Any suggestions please?
When you turn the phone on - what happens? Can you get into recovery, too?
Yep I can get into Recovery, but it is the Unrevoked version. I was under the impression to revert back all that was necessary was to install a UK TMO ROM, but it is this that is not working
OK I think I am sorted now.
I installed another custom rom but also removed my SD (GOLD) Card as I thought that might be causing a problem with the ROM signing.
Anyway I am now running TMO UK 1.15 so all being well I should be able to send the damn thing back now.
Thanks anyway.

[Q] stock update S-OFF phone

I've used the search but frankly, the vBulletin search still sucks after all these years.
I rooted the phone following this guide. Now my phone says a system update is available.
Since I would like to install it (my phone is still 1.34, I think. The latest version should be 1.72, right?) and installing a stock update onto a S-OFF phone is highly inadvisable (I've read), how do I go about this?
I have Visionary installed but it says the phone does not appear rooted, even though it is (just checked).
I'm sure there have been others with similar questions and I just couldn't find the right thread. If so, please point me in the right direction.
Regards and thank you,

Why did you root your phone? There is no need to update your phone to the latest OTA update if you are wanting to install custom ROMs.
Because I was testing custom mods and wanted to go back to stock?

ahhh, I thought you had just rooted it. I updated the day after I received my new phone. I had problems with bluetooth (music wouldn't resume after ending phone calls) and wound up here on the XDA forums looking for answers. I ended up rooting my phone, installing CM6 and now CM7 and never looked back. There is no bluetooth switching problems using CM builds so I'm happy.

Thanks, that looks interesting. Now the only question: Do I need my original CID? And if so, how do I find it now that the CID has been changed by gfree?
That link is about a procedure to restore the stock G2 ROM. Since you seem to have a DZ ROM, I'm not sure if you want to flash a G2 ROM (though the other bits might be useful).
The 1.72 OTA update has been rootable for some time now, so you can safely accept the update if you want. But it might be easier just to flash the 1.72 ROM in its entireity (you can get it from the dev forum).
With SuperCID and S-OFF you should have no problems flashing 1.72.

Really? Then I don't quite understand the stickied warning thread that says to never, ever attempt that.
Anyhow, I gave the Virtuous mod another go. Since it has sense and 1.72 I'm thinking of testing this one out a bit more, before I go flashing stock.
Thanks for the replies, though.

firmware 2.1-update1 HTC Evo 4g

Hey guys, so I been trying to root my phone for like the last 3-4 days ever since I got it. Sadly, I cannot root it and have given up hope, and just wish to get my 2.2 firmware back, I've got the stock rom now (sprint lovers?) and everything seems good, except for the fact that my firmware stayed at 2.1-update1, and I can't find a way to get it back to 2.2
Can anyone help me with this?
(Also does anyone live in Fresno, CA? Willing to pay to get my thing rooted )
There are so many things wrong with this question.
If you never rooted, how did you flash a rom?
I have no idea why it'd say you're still on 2.1 if you installed a 2.2 rom to begin with.
How the hell did you downgrade to 2.1 from 2.2?
I don't think they flashed at all there on the stock sprint old enclair ota, but how did they get on 2.1? I suggest you do a ota update. Go to settings - scroll to the bottom and choose system update then choose software update.
Maybe that will get you on froyo 2.2.
Best of luck.

I have tried going to system update and choosing firmware update but it claims there is no update available. I dont know how I downgraded, I was attempting to use autoroot v2.3 and it installed a different rom that says "Quietly Brilliant" at the start-up screen, but now I have it back to stock. Where the original sprint load up screen came up.
Everything seems good except for the fact that it says I'm running firmware 2.1-update1 and can't use my flashlight, on my phone to use the camera light as a LED light :S
First off, if you are rooted, NEVER EVER try to update your phone. You could permanently lose root. Every single guide to rooting tells you this.
Second, just download and run a stock ruu for the latest version of the stock rom.

HTC One X cant boot - hboot39

Hi fellow members
I've been running revolution hd 9 mod for a long time now, and today i went back to stock rom and then upgraded to 4.1 JB cause i've heard all these good things about it. When i upgraded i was like, screw it i'm gonna root this phone and get some cyanogenmod. The problem is now after i rooted it it was stuck on boot screen. Been trying to get it back to stock, but i can't. I get this error 150 wrong bootloader version. I think it's because i'm on 1.39 hboot. and i've tried every ruu, like 5-6 and alot of recovery.img. But nothing works.
Can someone help me ?

Weird problems with my m8 after rooting and s-off.

So about 2 days ago I got my new m8 and I was Lucky enough to get a older device (4.4.2) so all I had to do was run sunshine, and I was s-off and rooted in no time. But I've noticed some problems. First of all is that latest twrp does not work, I clean cache and everything, but no luck, it just gets stuck on the splash screen with the pink text at the top. Older versions work tho. And second problem is that if I install insercoin it takes for ever to reboot every time and splash screen is not present.
I was thinking that maybe my problems are related to my older boot loader? Or something of the sorts? Anyway, any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!
You'd have to check the insertcoin rom thread to be sure, but you may need a newer firmware. That's kinda what it sounds like, but I don't use the rom so can't say for certain. Since you're s-off you can always go back, so nothing much to lose. Check the firmware flashing without the panic attacks thread for the how-to.

Sounds good. Hopefully updating the firmware fixes the twrp problem
For what it's worth I still use an older version or twrp without any issues, so it's not too much of a big deal to stick with the slightly older stable builds.
