I have just purchased a used Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 and have had it switched on for 2 hours tops, I have noted that the temperature of the Note on the top right hand side is very warm indeed. I have downloaded the System Tuner Application from the Play Store and note that the CPU temperature with no open applications is varying between 45 and 55 degrees centigrade and when for example I watch a video this can go up to 70 degrees , can I ask is this normal for one of the 2014 10.1 Notes, I have a 2012 / 13 version and it never goes over 45 Degrees whatever I throw at it task wise?.
Can anyone let me know if this is normal please as I've read that the tablet shouldn't exceed 45 degrees with all apps running?.
Thanks.
1. What build number are you on?
2. Are you using a microSD card with pdf's on it?
3. Are you rooted?
There have been reports of this happening due to S-Finder trying to index either the internal memory or an SD card. If 2 is yes, try removing the card and check the temps again.
If that doesn't work and 3 is yes, try greenyfying or freezing with S-Finder with TB and recheck temps.

On Android 4.4.2 and build Number is KOT49H.P600UEUCNI1
I am not Rooted and No SD card is in the Machine.
I have only today purchased this machine, temperature is currently 48 degrees but reached 72 degrees 10 mins ago whilst watching a TV program online ?
Any further advice appreciated, should I ask for a refund please?.
As it does seem rather hot?.
It is, not sure about the refund, it is an issue with this model. Try turning off S Finder first

Could anyone possibly let me know a solution to this problem please?, is it directly related to android Kit Kat, is there a solution to it without losing functionality or having to root the Tablet please. I'm in the UK also and as the previous poster has agreed you cannot stop S Finder.
From my point of view, you'd have to root to have more options.

Yes, the only problem with rooting is that you lose functionality of the Sky Go Tv application here in the Uk. And also use the S pen which I find very useful and was the purpose I bought it for, can any of you guys post your CPU temperatures under average load please?.

On mine, normal temp around 35-45deg .C for normal usage (include watching video). For gaming possible up to 65 max. If your cpu is high, check for one of the app is stucking doing something. Since you don't have root, it's hard to pint point, but let start with put device in battery saving mode and turn off wifi and see if that help. By turning off wifi, this will shut down all the apps that try to sync data through the internet. Also, go into settings -application-> running apps and see what running the most. Last case, try a factory reset see if that help.
I believe Greenify can now hibernate some apps/services in non-rooted devices?
Worth a try

I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus LTE, rooted running Android 4.0.2. I recently noticed (while playing Doodle Jump) that my accelerometer was slightly off. If I held the phone straight vertical (or laid it flat) the doodle would move to the left. In order to play properly I would have to lean the phone to the right to compensate. I tested this again with two different gyroscope apps. It's off by about 4 degrees (not terrible but enough to be obnoxious). I also used the in-app calibration option which fixed the problem, but only for that app. I re-calibrated my compass to no effect and did a factory reset to no effect. I don't know if this problem existed before I rooted as rooting was the first thing I did.
I'm unsure whether this is worth sending the phone back over (I can re-lock my boot loader if needed). Or if I did, would they even take it back for such a small issue? I've had the phone for about two months now. I would much prefer some sort of software fix. I understand that certain phones had global calibration options in the past. I have root access and am open to some hacking.
Any help is appreciated.
+1 have the same problem.. very annoying in Doodle Jump! I tried searching for some sort of calibration program on market but found nothing.

Download GPS Status and use the Tools to Calibrate
https://market.android.com/search?q=gps+status&c=apps
Nope. Didn't work.
As I stated in my post, I've tried calibration apps, but they only calibrate the accelerometer for that one app.
Odd. Worked perfectly for me when I had calibration issues in Sky Maps.
Some apps will have you wave your phone in the pattern of an '8' a few times. I wonder if thats universal to calibrate?
Calibrate works 100% gps status and tools.
However I find it doesn't stick forever.. It reports that it's always off in the same direction and by the same amount.
Sent from my Google phone
Is this a stock rom?
This might be a bug with the game itself (maybe not). But I have this game too, although on my tablet. Last night my boy was playing it and I noticed the calibration was off. It seemed like it was calibrated for landscape although we were in vertical mode. I initially thought that it calibrated when launched, so I closed out of the game, set it to vertical orientation, and relaunched... same thing.
This was on a Transformer.
I'm almost positive it worked on the Nexus before (as my kid loves it). Perhaps a bad update?
I'm on a AOSP rom (Gummy) and I'll try it again and post back.
EDIT: My Bad I was referring to Hyper Jump... which works fine on my Nexus which uses the accelerometer.
Yeah it's the stock ROM (I'm waiting on CM9). It's defiantly not the app, multiple apps have confirmed the problem. Multiple calibration tools have worked, but are only a fix for that one app. The compass calibration (wave your phone in a figure eight) does nothing to fix the problem. There is no global calibrate.
I'm sure there must be some sort of permanent fix with root permissions. But I'm not a developer and don't know where to start.
I have the same problem in neo v and found no way, too!
Please help!
+ 1. someone really need to make a fix for this . i know there are calibration options in the sgs and sgs2 but why not in the gnex settings?
Some games suggest holding your device flat and then moving it around in a figure eight pattern to recalibrate the accelerometer.
See if that helps.

Same prob here. Any Solutions? Calibration apps don't work, only for the specific app. is there a way to get a global setting?
I had the same problem on my GNex... I don't know if it's for that, but it's worth a try...
when I played a game it always went in the right side... I read somewhere that the GNex has an automatic calibration... i just left it facedown in the table everynight (charging)... and afer 2-3 days it was good calibrated...
Maybe I just was lucky... but you don't have anything to lose...
Sorry for my bad English (Grammar).

Couldn't find anything about automatic calibration. I wonder how this should work anyway. The device doesn't know what's the correct position. Your table might be slanted.
So any information on global calibration?
Did you try it?... it worked for me... maybe it memorizes if you do it over and over again?

So im getting some battery drain here and this phone is just 4 days old. I know time doesnt matter but im just saying ive given the battery some time to get better with the charges. First day i had to charge it twice, same with second day. Third day i disabled the CDMA/LTE radio and i had to briefly charge it.
Now today its been up for about 13 hours and its at 20% with mid-heavy usage. I dont think the battery is bad but i think IT COULD DO BETTER for a 2100mAh battery. Today i accidentally (from 8 am to 4 pm) ran with the CDMA/LTE setting on then i changed it to CDMA ONLY but battery was pretty much slightly better... I live in Puerto Rico so we are getting the new LTE Vision antennas soon here (decem 16. CANT WAIT) throughout the whole island
Something is weird... the first two days i noticed the battery drain so i noticed the SD card media server corrupt file bug but heres the thing... i took out my SD card and the media server process is still there :/ Shouldnt it have stopped? There is no more SD card for there to be a corrupt file problem. Also why is the Android process so high up on the list? should be about 85% screen and 15% the rest...
Any ideas why or who could be the culprit? I apologize for not using BetterBatteryStats as i havent purchased it and dont really intend on spending time on it. I love my phone just fine and i would hate to have to root it and install CM10.1 because i dont want to deal with updating my device every week because im OCD about updates.
Suggestions?
PS: i also run google now and Maps for latitude because i like sharing with my friends my location. Is latitude responsible for the whole Maps app battery usage? Is there a way for me to reduce it without manually having to update my location? Like in longer automatic intervals. Would disabling "report from this device" and "location reporting" turn off the latitude location sharing ?

unfortunately not, both are located somewhere inside the /system folder
as for BetterBatteryStats, there should be a thread here with an XDA version which is free for members
lastly, the 12/16 LTE launch is only for the south of the island, or so they've advertised (I could use it in Hato Rey, I've only gotten 1x for the past month and a half)
I know but wishful thinking about the LTE. Heard it should be island wise by February.
So I guess rooting is the best way to get rid of these Battery problems but then even if I stay on the stock ROM I won't be able to upgrade OTA (not that it's been mentioned anyways)
I think I've done my best to reduce the battery drain minus turning off the maps thing

Nope! A no go with custom ROMs.
ATT Note 8.0 has locked boot loader and will brick if you install an unsigned ROM.

IMO the samsung ROM is good. Just a wee behind. One thing you have on your side is rooting.
Once rooted, you can use framework mods to enhance the features.
I tested Civato's ROM and Kernel. Found it good but lacks supporting 64GB SD cards with Exfat.
Had way too many issues with Fat32 to call it worth while. Speed was good, but I realized after letting myself get use to the OEM ROM, there was not much difference.
If anything I recommend getting Solid Explorer Pro and Titanium Backup Pro..., they are worth their price on Google.
I removed all the apps that I can get on Google Play most of them are Google apps, but there is a few that you can obtain.
Once I removed all the Google apps... kept play store, I installed what I wanted. Don't bother with Google Music Player, it will run even when you reboot.
I kept Samsung Keyboard, and found it better than SwiftKey and Swipe Keyboard. As it has quite a bit of features you would not expect in a stock keyboard.
Setup my voice and language to be Ivona UK Welsh English, it is the best sounding of the English language. Google is setup to be the voice recognition.
My Samsung voice will be Ivona, and any Google voice in Google Now will be Google.
I setup a number of things with the framework mods, so it will take some time booting to completely load HD Widgets, if you choose to go that route.
Once ATT releases 4.4.3 in April, I may hold off until Xposed Framework gets a major overhall for 4.4.x.
I recommend the non framework version of Ghost Hide Root, with plugin. There is a framework version, but it does not work well with Samsung ROM.
Startup manager also is a good framework app, but there is a paid app that goes even further... I kept the Xposed app because it was smaller.
Don't bother with Power / battery apps... they tend to hog memory, and don't do much better than having your tablet do power saving mode when browsing or reading.
I keep WIFI and Power save mode on all the time. Yet to find a real issue with speed. Able to watch streamed movies and Miracast without hicups.
Oh by the way... I dropped Greenify as well.. seems to take up a lot of memory. I just stop some apps that allow not to be started during boot. Be careful, as some are part of the OS. I stopped All email apps, this way when I am wanting email I just open them. Also you can manually sync if you chose to. Though it can be annoying if you open mail for the first part of the day and find 40 emails waiting. On vibrate or notification sound it can be a bit annoying.
Was wondering where everyones battery usage was sitting at for these two services. Mine are both constantly on top and i cant figure out why. Anyone have this same problem or is this the new norm?
I had same issue for a day...I just went through all my apps that may be refreshing or syncing and turned everything off that I didn't need. I do have my weather widget on lock screen refreshing every hour but it doesn't seem to effect my battery at all. I'd say something is running in the background

Ive been having the Android System / OS problem...battery life has been terrible lately. I have no clue why....any ideas guys?
I had this problem too, for me it turns out to be caused by the phone hanging while syncing.
Go to Settings > Account > Google > (your account) and check if there is a syncing symbol that is persistent (like it will just not disappear after a couple minutes). If your case is like mine, that's what is keeping your phone awake and reducing your battery life. For me, I removed my Google account then re-added it just to make sure it was that one thing hanging (which in my case was Google Play Movies & TV), and when the results were the same, I unchecked the culprit and my battery life returned to normal.
I don't know why Google Play Movies & TV hangs when syncing for me, but since disabling sync for it I've had no other issue with my battery life.
Hope that helps

How do you get such high screen on time? I get 4-5 hours of screen time on lowest brightness.
On 4.4.4 I used to be able to get 5-5:30 ost but since updating it to lollipop and beyond I nearly get 4-4:30 I want to know if anybody els has been getting this issue or how to fix it and yes all the bells and whistles are turned off
Are you using freeza Beastmode kernel? Are you on the OG5 modem? These have been my most recent bumps in battery capacity; the biggest since KitKat actually.

Heavy usage today but ready to plugin and charge for tomorrow. The usage for apps shown is a bit higher than usual but the overall stats and SOT are darn good. Running OB7/OB7 bootloader/ customized with Xposed/OG5 modem and Beastmode kernel. Maybe the improved battery comes from the OG5 stuff.

Debloated ROM, freeze or delete apps that waste away at the battery, use auto brightness. Look for apps that wake excessively. Have you tried L Speed Mod? It will make Google Services behave. I use that with default settings, dump third party apps' cache and browser cache (including Google Play and Google Play Services) every 12 hours on a schedule and use an app by chain fire called recently to keep apps from running so much unneeded. Watch for rogue or faulty apps in the Xposed error log. Source close browser and other apps that like to keep running with back to kill app and use an ad blocker.
But really I think it has more to do with being indoors mostly on Wi-Fi and using Wi-Fi calling that gets those results. I have to credit the 5.1.1 kernel and modem too. OB7 wasn't always this good.
Half screen brightness would most likely to bright for me. What's wrong with auto brightness? It may save you some battery.
Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk
I used to do a lot of that disable things I didn't need like s voice and bloat but for some reaons I didn't reason calls or text and I credit that to all the mods I did with the phone so I haven't really moded in a while but since then I get bad battery life, and no I used to use auto brightness but then afew days ago I realized whats the point of not enjoying your phone how you want to. But dam you sure do a lot, none of that has any negative impacts>?
Not really. I go with what works. Some users just aren't happy with some things and change this and that until more content with it.

i did everything you said , got recently and also l speed rom, put the freza kernel. but my question is how do you put a scheduler? and how do you find out which apps run in the back round? if you uninstall google apps and apps that are form Samsung would that effect in anyway the phone?
I use an older application I purchased a while on an older phone that needed more memory expansion for app data. Link2SD pro did that plus had the scheduler so I still use it for that rather than buying another task manager. Couldn't tell which to use or if there are better or free ones.
