Hi,
I recently got my Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE T705. Done rooting it, now I want to somehow remove the bloat applications. What are the known bloat applications that we can safely remove so it won't eat up memory.
Also, I am interested in installing a ROM. how do we make a backup of touchwiz?
Thanks in advance! :victory:
To remove applications and backup applications use an apk called titanium backup. You can backup all your apks and delete bloatware from it too. And here's a link of a list of things to remove/debloat. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2861180. There's also a paid version of titanium backup so you can upload the backups to google drove or Dropbox. Since your rooted I would install twrp recovery to also backup your whole ROM before flashing in case something goes wrong. The twrp installer is in the playstore. I forget how the installation goes for it but your have to select the type of device you have in which its some sort of weird name. May I ask what ROM are you installing? Hope this helps!

Thank you for the information.
I downloaded an application called "TWRP Manager" its asking me to select the device and also warned me that theres a chance that i might brick the device. I tried to look for SMH-T705 but its not listed there so I didn't continue.
Edit: I've made further research and was able to install TWRP Recovery. I feel safer when downloading and trying out ROMS now

is it possible to obtain full root without wiping phone data? all i want to do is remove apps that i dont use...like most of the sprint/htc crap i dont care for a custom rom only want a custom kernel with all tweaks
I don't think it's possible. However, once you do get full root access and nand unlock, you would be able to remove the apps you don't want, set your phone up, and you could do a nand backup.
It can be a pain in the ass, but it's well worth it.

Use the unrevoked method. Then use a backup app like titanium, backup your stuff then go through the root process then restore your backup. There are plenty of guides on how to do this.

Titanium backup has a market doctor feature that links your backed up apps back to the market
Definitely root and use titanium backup. But keep in mind with a custom ROM you are going to lose everything you have. Any apps that store data on sd card will probably be fine.
What I did before I had Titanium Backup was flash custom ROM. Then once booted I make sure things look fine, fully sync to Google, then reboot. When I come back from that I turn on WiFi and go to market and Download section. Any apps I previously downloaded will be in that section waiting for me to download. Download them all at once, DO NOT leave that section before downloading everything again, or you will lose that list.
Once done, open apps and customize to liking. Then download Rom Manager if you don't have it already. Flash clockwork and let it do its thing. Then do a NAND backup from Rom Manager. Once that is done do backup with titanium backup.
Sounds like a lot of work, I know, but you only need to do this once. Then incremental backups with titanium and you are set. It is a lot of time up front but can save a ton of time and headaches down the road. Trust me here.
If I root my desire and flash a custom ROM will all the apps I have installed now
would be gone?
And if I bought an app, will I have to buy it again after rooting and a new ROM?
thanks
oh and im sorry if this is in the wrong section
For the first question, I think all your apps will be deleted just if you want. In doc kitchen, are two versions of rom, with wipe and no wipe, but the recomanded version is that which will wipe all your data. You can backup all your apps before that.

You can just back up all the apps via Titanium backup from the market. It will also backup your user data.
So you should go:
1) root & install custom recovery (usually part of rooting process)
2) install Ti Backup and run a batch backup of all user apps and data
3) make sure all your contacts are google contacts! Then they will just be re-imported when you register your google account on your new rom
4) pick your rom and download its zip file - copy this to the root of your sd card.
5) boot into recovery and factory reset i.e. wipe everything
6) still in recovery, select "install from zip" and pick the zip file above
7) reboot and wait (can be slow the first time), then run a batch restore from Ti backup and you are done!
Thank you very much its very helpful.

Yep they will all be backed up.
I forgot a step too - you should always do a nandroid backup (this is done in recovery) before wiping and flashing rom in case something screws up.
This way you can restore what you previously had through recovery.

When you paid an app on the Market, the info is attached to your Google account. So when you configure a new rom with your Google account, you see in the Market those apps are paid and you can download them again for free.

Titanium backup is your friend.
You can back up all installed apps onto your sd card and then restore them onto the note ii.
Some apps may not work unless they are installed 'normally', but for 95% of them, it'll be find.
If you find one acting weird, uninstall it and reinstall it.

i know that but, actually i was trying to avoid root on my note 2, scared
just install androzip free and use its app manager menu, saves all apps as apk to be copied and installed else where...
what i do is actually use titanium backup to back all apps and their data and then have the apk for titanium.
Install TB then use it to install everything else in one batch operation.
1st off, I'm still on the Stock Rom. Using Samsung GS3 i747. I have rooted and use CWM Recovery. I understand that once rooted, Bloatware is easy to remove. How exactly is that done?
mrRobinson has a great method. check out the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1732039

Also you can download titanium backup. I'm not a fan of bloatware removal flashable utilities.
- Download titanum backup
- open and then select backup and restore.
- It will brinf up all apps and bloatware installed.
- Select an app and it will give you options to delete, backup, restore apps.
- enjoy
here is a list of apps you can remove safely but its all up to you what you want to save.

you could try NoBloat its in the playstore
Need some help moving forward with rom installation. Have been reading and playingback guides and articles in the last few days on rooting and roms. Just rooted AT&T S3 I747 ver. 4.1.2 and have access to SU. Installed Revovery Tools from DsLNeXuS and Titanium Backup Pro. Made a backup with Recovery Tools and stopped.
I'm going back and forth between guides noticing some of them were written over a year ago. Have been using these guides below.

Questions. Are Recovery Tools and Titanium Backup Pro used for the same purpose? Is the toolkit below an alternative to both these tools, RT and TBP?

Do I need to run RUU flashing?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Recovery backups are for if something happens to your phone you can restore phone its original sate by choosing backup from recovery.
With Titanium Backup you can backup your applications and data. Tomorrow if you install a new ROM you can just restore applications along with data from Titanium Backup.
When you flash anew ROM you will loose all your current apps and Titanium Backup is used to restore them.
Thanks. Sounds like I don't need to have both recovery programs but Titanium Backup will do.
When backing up apps is it necessary to back up all the at&t apps?
I am still at a lost with RUU. Do I still need to Flash RUU?
thanks.

You use titanium backup for backing up apps and the associated data (logins, settings, game progress, etc). For installing custom ROM you need a custom recovery such as CWM or TWRP. Samsung stock firmware uses ODIN vice RUU.

So I'm hearing "restoring data from one rom to another can cause problems". This will be my first rom install. I've already backed up all apps and data. Do I have to pick and choose which apps I want to restore after flashing a new rom?
Thanks in advance.

It could cause problems. If it occurs, it is usually when switching from a Touchwiz ROM to an AOSP ROM and vice versa. If you are going from stock TW to a custom ROM based off stock (or AOSP to AOSP), you will likely have few to no issues. App compatibility with a new android version is another matter (I.e. ICS to JB 4.2). It could happen over changes in android versions but it is not likely and even less so over minor variations (4.2 to 4.3 for example).

Restoring "System" data from another ROM will usually give you problems.
Also, it might be a good idea to copy your EFS folder from the root of your phone, using a file explorer program, to your SD card or computer before you start flashing ROMs, as most people who later had data connection problems (lost their IMEI numbers) never got around to doing it.

Any file explorer program recommendations to copy EFS folder?
Are "custom ROM based off stock" and "Samsung based ROM" the same thing?
I am currently running AT&T Android Version 4.1.2, Baseband I747UCDMG2. Can you recommend a couple of known stable Samsung based ROMs?
On backing up apps and data. When preparing for the very fist ROM flash, does it make sense to not backup all the bloatware apps AT&T has in 4,1,2.?
Thanks in advance.

1. Root explorer is good. But it's a paid app.
2.Yes
3. S3Rx, Dandroid, Intergalactic, and Graviton are some excellent touchwiz ROMs.
4. Do not restore system apps!!

I currently have Recovery Tools, Titanium Backup and ROM Manager installed.
Do Recovery Tools ans ROM Manager do the pretty much the same thing? I see a lot of info for ROM manager. Will I be able to do everything by keeping only one(ROM Manager?)?
Is it better to always flash from external SD card instead of internal?
Slim Bean
Figured it out. Running Slim Bean 4.2.2.build.8-OFFICIAL. Don't think I can ever go back. Well worth contribution to developer.
