A while ago I used the LG flashtool to update to KitKat with the stock AT&T .tot file. I was able to get into download mode by pressing volume up and volume down at the same time until the download mode icon appeared and then I plugged in the usb cable.
Yesterday I borked that install and for some reason restoring from a nandroid backup caused a recovery boot loop that wasn't fixed until I used TWRP's terminal command to do something with the fota file. After that the phone booted to the recovered ROM.
Now I am back to where I was but I am concerned that I can no longer get into download mode as I was able to before. Nor was I able to get into download mode when I was stuck in a recovery bootloop. I am paranoid that in case of a soft brick my latest nandroid backup won't work and that I will not be able to restore to stock with the tot file. As a back up I have the Kit Kat flashable zip on the phone as discussed in another thread here but with respect, I haven't got as much confidence in that method as I would using flashtool and the tot file.
Any thoughts? TIA.
Ron
Try this
Just try this it may help
keep pressing volume up and down key together and connect usb cable. its get me to download mode in same situation.

I bricked my Galaxy Ace GT-5830 and I need help un-bricking it with a stock ROM or one of these shiny Cyanogen ROMs. I've got all the tools I need from what I understand and hopefully someone can help guide this noob through the process and perhaps help me upgrade to a new OS. The phone will boot to and hang on the Samsung logo and to recovery mode but there seems to be some issue putting it into download mode so I'm stuck at the point of connecting it to Oden for download mode.
What I have:
Bricked phone
Oden 3.07 and 3.09
SD Card
Stock Firmware S5830XWKPY_S5830CPWKP1_CPW
My issues:
Firstly the stock ROM for a UK Carphone Warehouse phone I need that I found on SamMobile and another hosting site isn't in a tar.md5 format but I'm trying another stock ROM which is in the proper format for another UK provider to see if it will work, I'm not aware of how this would effect the phone if at all.
Secondly booting the phone to download mode doesn't seem to work as no connection is made with Oden. The phone boots to an empty charging battery which will disappear after a minute or so before the phone switches itself off again. Oden does recognise the phone when it boots and hangs on the Samsung boot logo and also when it boots into recovery mode. Multiple installs/versions of the USB drivers and Oden running in admin have been unsuccessfully attempted with various Samsung USB cables. Should I try to start Oden when a connection is made it hangs on setupconnection but I guess that is because it needs to be in download mode?
When attempting to wipe data/factory reset and cache partition it returns with the errors rfs format failed on /dev/stl13 and /dev/stl14.

You forgot to tell us how you got it bricked in the first place. Was your device rooted and do you have stock recovery or CWM? Try taking out the battery and then put it back. Press and hold Vol Down+ Home+ Power button and see if you enter the Download Mode. Once you are in the Download Mode, there should be a yellow text saying "Downloading". Do post the result.

I rooted the device and tried installing a custom ROM through recovery mode from what I remember and it's using a stock recovery. I've tried removing the battery and replacing while holding Vol Down+ Home+ Power button and it goes straight to the yellow text saying "Downloading" at which point the usb connection becomes unrecognised by my PC. Tried several different ports with various cables using the USB drivers from Samsung Kies and standalone drivers and I have yet to get it to recognise the device. What about "Emergency Download Mode," the device is recognised then but of course Oden hangs on the "setupconnection."

It's just a soft-brick so nothing to very about The reason it was bricked was because you tried to install the custom rom from stock recovery mode. Always make sure to install custom rom from custom recovery mode like CWM. The reason your odin can't identify your device is because the odin is probably outdated and/ or maybe due to drivers. You can never use Emergency Download Mode to flash back stock rom from odin. When you use Emergency Download Mode, your connection will be recognized but you will end up getting set up connection error while flashing. Now to unbrick your device, just use the following thread,
[Share] All Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 Stock Firmwares (2.3.X) Ever Released
First download the required firmware for your region from the first post. Once you have done that, go to the link in the second post. Download all the files (usb drivers, odin and ops) except firmwares (which you have already downloaded from the first post) in the "Preparation" section. Now install the USB drivers and follow the "Single Firmware File Installation". Once you have finished flashing, go to stock recovery mod and do a wipe data/ factory reset & wipe cache (otherwise bootloop might occur). Then restart. Now you have successfully flashed the stock rom. Here is the link for rooting and installing CWM 5 on Samsung Galaxy Ace which you can install from stock recovery mode (always root first and then install CWM),
How To Root and Unroot Samsung Galaxy Ace?
CWM 5.0.2.6 fix for Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830
Once you have installed CWM, you can flash any custom rom. CM 11 (KitKat) roms usually need CWM 6 but there is one CM 11 rom name KitKat for All that works well with CWM 5. Do post the result. Hope I Helped
My GT5830 Galaxy Ace is stuck in bootloop. I was flashing some file using recovery mode. Now the PC can not recognise the phone when it is in downloading mode although the PC recognise it in Emergency Download mode. I have tried all the USB drivers suggested in this forum.
Please help me.
Sorry, I'm relatively new to rooting and I looked through the threads and found similar problems, but none that seem to exactly match mine.
I have a rooted VS985 that I was trying to flash with the AndroidNow HD 6.1 ROM using TWRP and I guess the flash tool crashed. It was stuck on a black screen for an hour or two so I hard reset it and after that, the phone will only flash the LG logo for a second before the screen turns off and the indicator light alternates flashing red and blue. As far as I can tell, the computer does not detect it when it is in this mode (seems similar to the secure boot issue that some people have been having). I cannot enter download mode (the LG logo flashes on and the indicator light flashes blue once and then both turn off) but I can still boot into TWRP Recovery. When I try to boot into download mode, even while the screen is off, my computer detects the phone as QHSUSB_BULK. Also, when in recovery mode, my computer can detect the phone as a G3 and I can access it with adb tools but I don't know where to go from here. I have tried using the LGFlashTool but I can't seem to access the phone because it will not enter download mode and I've tried reflashing AndroidNow HW 6.1. The flash completes and says it is successful, but the phone still will not boot properly.
Luckily, I got the phone a few days ago from Costco, so there is a good chance I can still return it, but I would like to fix it if I can.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You said you have adb working.
Did you make a backup of your stock download mode at anypoint of time? (Iaf.img)
I guess it can be pushed back using adb, but am not very sure. Even if not, maybe you can take the stock Iaf.img from someone else and try pushing it via adb using this command:
Code:
dd if=/storage/external_SD/stock-laf.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/laf
Then you can boot into the download mode using the command:
Code:
fastboot boot stock-laf.img
It doesn't look like I have the stock laf.img backed up. I'll try to get it from someone. Thanks, I'll let you know what happens when I get it.

So I wanted to root my phone using stump. But with the new Lollipop update or something it is patched. To get around this I found out you can use LGFlashtool to go back to an older firmware and from there be able to root. So I followed a guide on using the flash tool. Everything went great until it finished but I got the Factory Reset Status 2 code. I quickly found out the solution is to use Board DL instead of Upgrade DL in flash tool. When I went back through the steps I found out my phone will no longer enter download mode. No matter what I try, USB ports, Upgrade or Board DL mode, restarting my computer and phone multiple times. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Bump
use http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/d855-one-click-root-twrp-recovery-t3072767 to root on LP. stump is an outdated tool.
don't want twrp? just use http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951
with the download mode issues, try flashing a new rom/software with twrp. that'll reinstall the download mode partition (laf.img i think) and then you'll be able to get back into download mode.
Im not that experienced but have been playing around trying to learn about roms etc. I used the flashify app to flash a rom but accidentally used the wrong rom. I grabbed the one for the v500 model instad of vk810. Needless to say it messed up. When the tablet boots it stays on the boot image for several minutes then it will attemp to update apps but gets stuck there. I have tried many fixes. The LG mobile tool doesnt work. I try to update recovery. It downloads the update but wont install. I cant force the tablet into recovery with button pushes. I have been able to put the tablet into twrp 2.7.8.1 recovery with droid explorer. From there I have tried to flash about 3 different roms that all say they should work for the vk810 but i get errors with all of them and they fail. Im not sure if there is any hope to get the tablet working again but hope someone can help.
First, I don't think you can use Flashify to flash a whole ROM at all. Definitely not recommended, even if it's is supposed to be capable of doing that. I haven't tested flashing ROMs with it so no idea if it can work or not.
Can you put it in Download mode? If so, install the Verizon LG drivers, reboot the PC and try LG Flash Tool 2014 with the 11A KDZ, you can get the KDZ from the link in my signature. It's easiest to root and put TWRP back on that old stock ROM.
FYI it would have to be in Download mode for the mobile tool to work - just in case you didn't know or didn't have it in Download mode. LG Flash Tool 2014 does the same thing as the mobile tool except the mobile tool re-downloads the newest KDZ every time you try it unless you hack it. It's much easier just downloading the KDZ separately and keeping it on file for times like this to flash with LG Flash Tool 2014.
Just remember, if you use LG Flash Tool 2014, ignore any error it throws at you. Just drag the dialog boxes out of your way, don't press any buttons in error dialogs. 99% of the time, if you just ignore them within 10-20 minutes it'll have successfully flashed your VK810 anyway.
Also, once you install the drivers and reboot, put your original USB cable that came with the VK810 into a USB 2.0 port on the PC, with the tablet completely off, hold the Up Volume button in, connect the tablet end of the USB cable and keep the Up Volume button pressed for another second or two, and you should see a very dim "Download Mode" graphic in the center of the screen. It's very hard to see. The first time you connect the tablet in Download mode to a different USB 2.0 port or Windows installation, it can take up to 10 minutes to actually load the driver you previously installed. Look in Device Manager under the Modem section to see when the driver is fully loaded by looking for the LG device entry there.
Question: I assume you mean TWRP v2.8.7.1, but I was just wondering where you found 2.8.7.1? I've only found 2.8.7.0, not that it's a big deal.
What I've done:
1. Tried LGNPST method but phone never showed up in the software
2. Tried flashing with LG official tool. That always resulted phone disconnected.[I did put my phone into download mode]
3.Tried almost all KDZ_FW_UPDATE methods they always stopped either in not responding-> close program OR extraction error
4. Tried sideloading using adb but they also resulted in "bad file" even push didn't work saying no permission to write(I think)
for adb I tried converted .zip of kdz using some guide in xda.
My phone is totally clean now. I can boot to Recovery or Download Mode. There's no file that's flashable right now. I'm in Philz touch recovery
This actually happened while I was flashing to unlock bootloader and charge went low.
I desperately want it to function properly. Please anyone with any new or updated methods, help me.
When normally trying to boot up, Google logo comes and phone switches off.
I was in F180L converted to E975.
I've INDIAN(20a) version kdz also european(10h) and korean(30e).
