I was looking for an old phone to replace my note 3 until i got it fixed and found my mom's old note 2. I was gonna factory restore it, but my mom has forgotten her code and the power button is broken. I can get the phone turned on just fine using the charger. Are there any other ways to reset the phone or just bypass the lock screen?
Unplug Note 2 from charger
Power Off Note 2
Press and HOLD Volume Up & Menu & Power until it prompts to the recovery. .
I havent used the factory recovery in a long time so there might be another screen that will ask you what you would like to do. Just choose Recovery..
To navigate you have to use the Up and Down Vol buttons. (This im not to sure of because I haven't used it in so long)

thank you, but i know about that method. the problem is that the power button is broken. is there any sort of work around?
Do you know if ADB Debugging is turned on. If so you may be able to do this from ADB with or Kies on your Computer.. I know you can on nexus devices.....

Hey guys, I've bought a galaxy s2 (t-mobile) and tried to root it. I held the vol up and down button while holding the power button, got into "press up to continue, down to cancel" screen, but I keep pressing up and nothing happens?!
The volume up button does work when the phone is on and I can make the ringer louder, but not during the download mode. Is there a fix?

are you trying to get into download/odin mode? if so you hold up/down and insert the usb cable while still holding down the up/down. I didn't think power button was involved in the matter but maybe there are 2 ways. Anyhow, try that maybe it'll work.. Did you update the phone to ics thru kies yet? Maybe that flash could do something helpful..

Sorry, I did mean that with the holding up/down button and USB cable. I am trying to get into download/odin mode. But I only get to the screen where it says to push volume up to continue, or down to cancel. It is the right screen, I just cant push up, nothing happens...
Also, I did not try to update the phone to ics thru kies yet. How do I do that?? You mean the regular software update in the settings menu?

Ok, so I updated to 4.0.3 via Kies and now have ICS on the phone. I tried booting into odin/download mode, and once I'm in the warning screen "A custom OS can cause critical.....bla bla bla.....Volume Up: Continue, Volume down: Cancel (restart phone), the volume up button does NOT work and still seems disabled.
The button itself (up button) is not broken, as it works when the phone is on to make the ringer louder.
Any other ideas? I'm really confused why it won't work ??

If u can get into recovery mode and r using cmw hit both up/down buttons at the same time. Ill take a thumb and place it in the middle of the buttons then push them (dont hold them tap them) after doing this itll say something like rockers disabled or something like that. When I used cmw Ive done that a few times and didnt know it and when in cwm I couldnt use the volume buttons anymore to make a selection. Do this to enable the buttons in recovery mode I never noticed if it only took effect in both modes or just in recovery mode but its worth a shot.

today i got my usb port that i ordered from ebay and after i connected it, i try to turn my gnex on but i stucked on the cyanogenmod loading (rom)
after this i tried to enter the CWM, but i figured the volume buttons doesnt after i replaced the usb port (i probebly damaged it) and i dont know what to do, i cant enter the CMW or Odin Mode.. plz someone can help me to fix it???? :crying::crying::crying:

i think the computer dont recognize the device if its dont turn on..

the volume buttons doenst work at all..
when i push them and the power button the normal screen came up and then he stucks on the loading screen
hmm, you might have to look up how to do an OMAP flash then. i've never done it so i couldn't tell you how. see if anyone else can give you some insight into this before you do that though.
What you should do is open up your device again and fix those volume keys. This isn't a sw issue.

maybe your power button has an issue ?

holding down the power button has this exact effect.
I believe your power button might be permanently stuck 'in' - if it doesn't feel this way, try slipping a pin (only a tiny way and while the phone is OFF and UNPLUGGED from any socket) into the gap between the power button and the phone casing. it's a small gap but give it a little wiggle. with any luck it will come unstuck.

Beginning to see a pattern here folks......I've commented on two other threads about exactly this problem......it's definitely a faulty power button. Officially the only way to sort it is to get the entire main board replaced.....if you have the standard 2 year warranty....use it.....
The phone won't boot normally, so there's no way Samsung can tell what OS you're running and try to claim 'warranty void' so just go for it....
This might be my S2, or it might be my W...but it's definitely CM
Just posting here to report about my phone with a very similar issue.
Like what the others have said in this thread, its the power button. I just came from the repair shop and they replace mine with a new power button. The phone works perfectly now.

Than i try to go in twrp recovery with power+power up but i cant.
I try to go i the fastboot with power+vulme down and then put the cable in the laptop but nothing helps.
I run on latest twrp and doctor ketan rom P03.
Any ideas ?

That sucks to hear man. But are you sure that's the right combination to get into the bootloader?
I'm on the tmobile version note 10+ and you have to shut the phone off and press and hold the Bixby button and the volume up button. Not sure if it's the same for other regions though.

phone plugged into pc.. press vol down and side key until screen goes off.. quickly press vol up vol down and side key until dl mode comes up, basically when screen goes off hold down all buttons until dl mode comes up..
if u end up trying to hold vol down and side key what happens is if its taking a while u end up doing a hard reset and device will seem to not be doing anything bcuz u keep resetting it. at least this is how i get to dl mode in these type situations.

thats for recovery yes but seems he cant get into recovery.
Has anyone figured out yet how we're going to get into "Recovery Mode" now with the "Bixby Button" missing? I used to "Clear Cache" weekly and thought of it this morning... don't dare experiment and "Brick" a brand new phone - hoping someone with insider info had some data on the subject? funny i couldn't get it working either....but connected to computer to get into download mode. that works.... then i tried to get into recovery and it worked
so keep fiddling with it

Also works on Sm-n986b [Exynos] bit not on 9860 SD, it works only if you plug on pc via USB, it may be a Bug
Power off phone wait few seconds hold both power and up value button same time for 10 seconds. Bam your in recovery mode. Worked for me N20U1 Unlock Snapedagon chip.

Im in the same situation, i cannot boot anymore in the stock Recovery mode.
I booted one before, then i changed CSC with Samkey and i flashed lastest unbranded firmware with Odin. All the processes were successful without problems but the combination Volume Up + Power doesn't work anymore, i tried every combinations.
After booted up normally despite holding the Recovery combination keys, in the homescreen a grey pop up say to me: [PDP] Back-up file detected.
My Note is an SM-N986N - Snapdragon
Any suggest ?

after update to android 11, the phone must connect usb-C to either pc or ear phone, then power n vol up.

Didn't work for me in first place. holding power (bixby) + volume up just restarted my device. i connected the phone with PC and tried same thing and it worked.
I am using note 20 Ultra (Exynos version) with One UI 3.0
