Does anyone have the latest stock ota zip that I could flash via recovery possibly without bringing back any carrier bloat that I've already removed
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
Stock OTA zip would mean stock, as in it'll include carrier bloat. My best suggestion is to create a label in Titanium backup specifically for bloatware. Add everything that you want removed into that group and freeze those specific apps. This way you'll be able to continue to OTA (as long as you don't remove/replace other system apps or data) Frozen apps will stay frozen across OTA's. For mods, I strictly use xposed as basically everything is there to use.

So basically I'd have to do a regular ota then re lash my recovery? Afterwards I'd have to mark off what to freeze on otas. I wouldn't be able to remove them just freeze correct?

My fiance has to send in her phone for replacement. Since the Incredible doesn't have the Privacy/backup app data option, I want to back up her apps so as not to lose data or have to manually do it in the market. From reading, Titanium Backup is the best app for the job and it requires root.
I searched for my answer but found not exactly what I was looking for...
I know I can run unrevoked3 to root the device, install TB then back up my apps...
From here I want to unroot the phone. I read I can install the official 2.1 ROM and it'll erase what unrevoked3 did.. Am I correct in assuming that?
Or could I just factory reset the phone (with the 2.2 OTA) instead of having to install that 2.1 ROM? And will doing this get rid of the custom recovery? Or does a whole ROM need to be flashed to replace the recovery?
Then on the new device, i have to root it, install TB again, install the backups... If it comes preloaded with 2.2, how do i lose root and still hold onto all the apps I just backed up?
Actually I don't care about the new device and getting rid of root...
I just want to make sure the phone I send back no longer has the custom recovery.

To skip the rooting and unrooting, try AppBrain. You can build a list and sync your device with your apps. On the new phone, do the same and it will automatically redownload and install your missing apps.

Will it download them through the market? I only ask so the downloads list in the market shows apps as installed and will notify of updates. And does it back up app data as well?

And modifying my search I found the answer... Downgrading will erase custom recovery...

Yes, it downloads through the market, and does updates, too. No it doesn't save app data. I try to stay away from that due to possible data corruption.

Another question... So phone is rooted, s-off, cw recovery.
Outside of flashing the leak, how would one prepare the phone for the ota without losing apps and data? I've read flashing the stock recovery would do it, but I can't find the 2.2 one or I'm looking in the wrong place. Any help appreciated.

I've seen people mention using titanium backup to freeze the device manager or updater app. Something to that effect.

thanks but i don't have a clue what that means.
i installed Kies on my pc to try and find the download and "push" it through with Odin, but Kies tells me my firmware is good.
i have NO idea where to dl the newest OTA from T-Mobile and then i'd have NO idea how to push it with Odin.
help, someone????
Titanium backup is an app from the market. With it you can uninstall system apps, or simply "freeze" them, meaning they are still there but no longer allowed to run.
"Device management" is the system app that's notifying you of the available ota update.
So, to answer your original question, download titanium backup and use it to freeze device management in order to get rid of the ota notification.
All this assumes of course that you are rooted and running a custom ROM. If you aren't on a custom ROM, then I wouldn't understand your wanting to avoid the update, as it appears it doesn't affect your ability to root, and may not even unroot your device.

Will anything else be affected if you freeze that app?

I've had mine frozen for a couple days to avoid getting that notification, and haven't experienced any fc's or other problems.

i wasn't trying to avoid it, i was originally trying to install it, but Clockwork wouldn't let me; a couple people in here tried to offer 'halfway' help, but stopped answering my questions, so i mainly just wanted to get rid of the nag, since the mod i flashed got me to 2.3.6 anyway.
turns out that Perfect Backup let me clear the Device Mgmt data, and that got rid of the nag. so i didn't have to pay for Titanium Backup (can't freeze stuff unless you pay for it).
so the resolution is that once i'd flashed to 2.3.6 the OTA was just in some kind of cache, i guess, and all i had to do was clear it.

i just went through the exact same problem. go get Deodexed KL1 (i think it's a stock ROM) and it'll do what the new update is going to do, flash you to 2.3.6.
flash the modem, too, with Odin (KL1 modem) and then find your Device Management 10.* and Clear the Data using Perfect Backup (free).
i was unable to get rid of that nag/notification until i did that.
there may be other ways of Clearing the Data for Device Mgmt - maybe in App Manager. In any case, when i cleared the data the nag was gone.

Flash Mr X's deodexed stock rom. the rom your device downloaded is designed to work with your phones stock recovery and not with clockwork mod. X's rom works with CWM.

Thanks guys. I should have waited for the hint. I ended up resetting the rom and it fixed the nag. So clearing the cache would probably fix it too and save me a lot of reloading of apps and settings.
[Q] Stop OTA for Samsung GS 2 on T-Mobile
Hello!
My wife has a rooted GS 2 with the stock ROM from TMO. I am concerned that the new OTA (T989VUVKL1)might break her root functionality, cause repeated update notification, or cause her phone to no longer work. Does anyone know the app or file I need to freeze or delete to stop the OTA from happening? At this point she is also getting the notification to update (eek!) At some point I will want to upgrade the ROM to the newest one assuming I can keep root access. Thank you for all your help and support!
Freeze device manager.

Here's how I fixed it. Use a root explorer. Navigate to system/app and delete / backup both wssysync files. Reboot . Problem solved

I rooted my Note2 and have root access, but I think I'm missing something... I reset my phone and the system apps reset themselves. On my Glacier you had to turn security off to keep it from happening, and I was wondering what needs to be done to prevent it on this device.
All I did was root, install cwm, then install Su. Does it have to do with deodexing? I'm unfimiliar with what it means and would appreciate some guidance in the right direction.

HTC devices. Do a little more reading and you'll find the difference, I find Sammy devices are a lot easier to play with compared to HTC, having owned several of both.

There is no such thing as S-on and S-off on Samsung devices as they already ship with an unlocked bootloader. If you are doing a factory reset on any phone, all of the system apps should be wiped as well, so I don't really understand your question.

Don't worry, I understand what you're talking about.
Started happening with the Galaxy S3 on T-Mobile as well since the most recent JB update
You "freeze" an app in Titanium Backup, and it freezes just fine, but after the very next reboot that app is back in action and active in the background. Very frustrating, I know.
The two apps I noticed this with were T-Mobile's My Account app and Zynga games (really??)
Here's the solution - uninstall the offending apps. That'll teach em!
Uninstalling works just fine, but for example when I install the older version of YouTube (which I prefer over the new) and restart my phone, the version it ships with is reinstalled.
Also, when I flash a zip that installs the apk into the system app folder, it gets wiped after a reboot.

I know that there were two files you had to remove to prevent reboots from reflashing stock recovery, I would imagine this is the same thing - problem is, I don't know what files to remove (I don't have the Note 2 yet so I can't go poking around to look for them)
But I am sure you can find/remove them.
This is why I stick with CM10, I can't stand the control T-Mobile and Samsung try to maintain on our devices
I can't find the info! BTW, the search function on the mobile app is not very good. Haha

there is no s-on or s-off for samsung, thats just a htc thing. you root, install cwm w/ Su and you're done.
I am rooted, bumped and custom ROM installed so I have no interest in downloading and installing LGs OTA update.
Is there someone out there that know how to stop the nag coming up every once in a while?
Thanks in advance.

Install ROM Toolbox Lite and use the App Manager in it to freeze the System Updates app. It is a system app so it will be under the second alphabetized set of apps.
I've just done this using Titanium Backup.
I'll see if that'll work. Thanks.

Hello.
So I was installing an Xposed module (YouTube AdAway) and updating one (APV Youtube module). I activated the modules, rebooted the device and noticed that Xposed was gone - none of the modules worked. Since I am not Lollipop and the only way to install Xposed is via recovery, I re-flashed the zip and wiped cache and Dalvik. Now Xposed works, but the system warns me that Storage Space is running out, even though I have 10GB available.
My device is a European M8 converted to GPE. Firmware 3.11.1700.5, Android version 5.0.1, TWRP 2.8.5.0 recovery, Linux 3.4.x kernel.

same issue... anyone know how to fix it?
GPE 5.0.1 leaves 0 mb space in the system partition
The solution is to convert some system apps into user apps
Or the extreme method is to remove them completely
If you remove them you lose OTA updates

Sorry for not checking this thread earlier. For some reason I wasn't getting e-mail notifications. Anyway, how would I convert system apps to user apps? Titanium Backup Pro does it, but I don't want to pay for this.

Easiest way is to probably delete some google apps that you can download from play store from /system/app/
Then just re-download it from play store, note that if you have updated an system app from the play store then there is no need to re-download it since any play store update is not stored in /system
Since installing xposed will probably make your system loose OTA ability already this makes no difference. But just incase do a system nandroid backup.
