So my Fire TV managed to update itself after I blocked it during the initial setup. Hasn't bother me too much until now. I bought and side loaded SlingPlayer for android and it works ok. Requires a mouse to select certain functions but otherwise it works very well. My problem is that after running the app one time, on the second load it says it can't authenticate. I'm guessing there is nothing I can do since I cannot root but I thought I would ask here. Right now I just uninstall and side load again. Any ideas?

You need a different apk. If you did legitimately buy it you should install google play services and install slingplayer through that.
I am unable to install play services because I can't root. I've used APK extractor on my Galaxy Tab twice since I bought the app to try and make sure I had an authenticated copy

1) Go to Playon http://www.playon.tv/playon
- Install the playon service on your PC
2) Configure : In the PlayOn config, you can enter your Hulu Login Info. This is helpful as it can pull from your Queue
3) Get the PlayOn App from Android Market. This is not currently avaialble in Amazon Market, so you need to port it over (plenty of instructions on the boards for this)
4) As long as you are on the same WiFi network as your PC, you will be able to stream any of the PlayOn channels including HULU
Ive got HULU up and running perfect on my Kindle Fire. I thought I would share how I did it. First off you need root, and custom recovery. Then you need to use this rom here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439916 which is a custom rom Based on the stock 6.2.2 release. Other than the rom being awesome it also poses as a Samsung Galaxy Tab that allows for a lot of apps that use to show as incompatible are now available. Some work, some dont. But one that does is Flash Video Browser, which is only .99 cents. I had already paid for this and was using it on my Evo 3D, and my Evo View, but it wasnt compatible with my Fire until now. I was able to install, and it works perfect. So I know this is a lot to do just to get Hulu on the Fire, but I was using this Rom for other reasons and this was just an added benefit!! Hope this helps someone.
So as some of you many have noticed, the BF4 commander app just launched on android.
Unfortunately, the app is only available for tablets. Sideloading the app doesn't work even if you can acquire the apk.
Does anyone know of a way to force Google play to allow a download of an app marked as incompatible?
Use market helper, need to be rooted but can spoof your device and make play store think you're device is a tablet.

If your intent is to side load and install an apk to the FTV from PC, then you're looking for the Amazon Fire TV Utility App.
There is also AGK Fire that lets you side load and transfer apps directly from your smartphone.
I use an app called caze

I have Kindle working just fine on my OTA updated US unlocked Fire phone with Google Play Store reinstalled.
Thanks for confirming.
Mine is not rooted... or I forgot... don't use this phone much.
Anyone knows how can I reinstall it? There's no kindle app on Amazon store. Man Amazon really dropped the ball on whatever android experience they were going for... I might just try to install the one from play store
Ah wait, if yours rooted that means you're on a much older version of fire os. Mine was bought late so I have the last version

Hi, gcbxda. My Fire Phone is not rooted. I moved to 4.6.1 a few days ago. Just a shot in the dark - try clearing cache, etc. Go to settings, applications and parental controls, manage applications, set the filter to all, select Bookstore.

My Unlocked 4.6.1 phone has 2 Amazon kindle icons now. App info says Book store ver. 2.2.2000429100 which opens fine and works, and the 2nd is Amazon Kindle ver. 1.5_1357580710 which does nothing like you described. Weird part is the first one has no name under it.
Mine is the same as your first one. It says Books under the icon. I think this one came with the phone, but it may have been automatically updated in Google Play Store.
aha. yeah. i have two icons as well. in pretty sure i never installed from Google store. it must be how the annoying fire home screen works. somehow it needs those two apps and hide from the user... which other launchers do not do.

Hi there. I am looking for the apk file from the YouTube app from the fire tv box. (that one, I get via the app store). Probably there is a problem. I could not download it without a amazon fire device.
I want to use it for my alfawise TV box because my wife doesn't like that youtube app which is used there

Not sure where you can get the apk from but if u are unable to find one, side load an app called lucky patcher on to a fire TV and you can use the app to create an apk of the installed ftv-YouTube app then use es file explorer to transfer the created apk to the new TV box. Long winded I know but if you can't find the apk this can be your plan B
Hope this helps
I have sold my fire TV. So I am not able to backup the app
Maybe someone else could help me and make a backup for me??
