10.5 Tab S Directv Sunday Ticket app issues - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've been trying to stream the Sunday Ticket app the last couple weeks and for what ever reason the video is anything but smooth. I have a strong wifi signal, I've tried both wireless 802.11b and n with my Asus rt-n66, even being in the same room with it and no luck. Yet my S4 and note 8.0 have smooth video on the S.T. app. I can stream netflix, HBO Go no issues. Anyone else try the ST app? If you have it can you please test?
Thanks,
Mark

So it seems the Tab S is not the only tablet with these issues. I was reading reviews of the app on Google play and there are several other tablets having similar issues. Nexus 10, tab 4,etc

I think it only works on selected devices (probably Nexus) it works on my Nexus 4 but not Tab S.

You're right, screen casting works only on selected samsung, HTC and nexus devices. More will be added later.

Actually chromecast doesn't work at 10'5. It starts to play YouTube and stuff but after that system ui process crashes and reboot is the only way to go. Any fix available?
Did you try EZCast for example? Is the problem with Chromecast app or with the screen cast in general?
Chromecast.app and Samsung Galaxy Tab S aren't working correctly together.. Could it be the device? The app? That's anyone's guess. Best thing to do is email chromecast and Samsung.

Tried only chromecast. My guess is that it is the app to blame since it crashes in every app that tries to use chromecast but I emailed both samsung and Google.

Try EZCast you will not be disappointed I use it on Nexus 5 (despite the fact that Chromecast is working fine on this device)

Chromecast works perfect on my 10.5, mine has never crashed and I stream tons of YouTube, vudu, and Netflix to two different chromecasts.
Your comment makes it sound like chromecast doesn't work on any tab s 10.5, which is not the truth because it works perfect on mine. I can't wait until they add the screen mirroring feature for the tab s and chromecast.
Have you tried Uninstalling and reinstalling the app? Or maybe rebooting your chromecast?
It's happening to several people here. (including me) So something is definitely wrong.

Tried both. Streaming starts OK but then system ui crashes. I have lte version, you have the same?

The issue is it doesn't work with Google Play apps. It works fine with Netflix. Try this test:
- Play a movie using Play Movies & TV (you can use the free Gravity Movie)
- Cast to move to chromecast
- While it is playing on the TV (through chromecast), pull down the notification drawer

Wow, you're right, I just did this test with play movies and play music and it did freeze my tablet. Well, I hope they get that fixed because I have 10 or so movies I've bought on Google play.
I did tests with other chromecast apps and they all work except the Google apps.
Email Samsung and Google. The more people that make issue with it. The quicker they will seek a resolution
This issue is carried across most of the Samsung tablet platform (Note, Pros...etc) and its surprising it hasn't been addressed.
Netflix will work fine, the Avia app, but the Google based ones will error out the tablet if you pull the notification down while playing media.
More people need to report it so it can be fixed! :good:
Im having trouble with allcast seeing my Chromecast. The Chromecast app will see it and allow for config but not Allcast. Tried the same procedure on my N5 and was able to cast video no problem.

Also BubbleUPNP makes the system crash. Emailed them both but I wonder if I ever get any response..
After some reboots of the Chromecast, router, and Tab all works well
I just got a Chromecast this week and was excited to play with it on my Tab S 10.5, but I've had the same systemui crashes after using the notification drawer while streaming. It's pretty annoying because it's near-impossible to get the system to respond as the crash notice comes up every few seconds while streaming to the Chromecast.
What I've found is that if I preempt the Chromecast streaming by initiating streaming from my phone or PC instead of the Tab then the crashing stops and I can then use the Tab again. I hope they fix this soon.

[Q] Miracast on Tab S 8.4

Ive seen so many mixed report regarding Miracast. I really like the idea but am cautious. From what i understand Netgears Push 2 TV PTV3000 is considered one of the better dongles. Anyone got any recommendations or are currently using Miracast on thier Tab S? Not entirely sure if it is even compatible. Would appreciate any feedback on your experiences and any recommendations.
I've got it. I use it. It works.
I got it when I had my Surface 2, I've continued using it with this Tab. Connects perfectly. Only thing I've noticed is that after watching a few HD YouTube videos, the sound goes out of sync with the video. I've yet to fully investigate this phenomenon, whether it be the YouTube app, the Tab, background apps etc. but can't see it been anything to do with the Netgear. I'm off on holiday now so won't be able to look into that for another week.
P.S. not sure if you could use Chromecast in the same way, but if so it would be a cheaper option.

Many thanks for your reply, did you root your Tab S?
No. And it's the 10.5
My DLink Miracast adapter works perfect with the Tab S 8.4. Remember to update the firmware after you get the adapter home. Else it'll lag like hell. After the update it works like a charm.
And Tab isn't rooted.

Update:
After the recent Tab S firmware update, it simply stopped working. Samsung, what did you do?
Update:
After a firmware update of the Miracast dongle, it started working again. Darn.
Ah, glad it's not just me then. I tried casting to the tv the other day (I'd just rooted the day before that) and I got an incompatible hardware issue or something, thought I'd broken something. I might have had an update in the background and it's ****ed it.
I'm using the Netgear PTV3000.

if u are using cw/twrp/philz recovery and/or the sky high kernel then the custom images have broken your wifi...u can either install my SuperSamung V2 rom with the fix already included or edit your build prop by adding the line wlan.wfd.hdcp=disable then save & reboot
Sorry to revive an old thread, but i'm considering getting a Miracast dongle to feed powerpoint presentations to an office projector from my Tab S. Couple questions though:
1. Will it work?
2. Am I better off going the wired micro-usb-to-hdmi route?
I'd really rather go wireless so I can walk around and not worry about yanking the cable off in the middle of a meeting with top execs.
Why miracast instead chromecast? Chromecast works perfectly from the tablet or pc and has better support.
I just see miracast as a poor mans version of chromecast.
I'm also wondering about this.
For screen monitoring of e.g. games, photo viewing with Gallery of QuickPix, or tv streaming using an app provided by my cable company
I understood Chromecast is supposed to be especially good at showing content in the cloud. I forgot the exact list of supported services... Things like YouTube, picasa, Spotify, radio streams, Netflix? In this case, your tablet "refers" to the content, and chromecast does the actual downloading/streaming. Screen mirroring was added as an afterthought, and last I checked (hmm, 6 months ago) subject to a lot of disclaimers, supported only on some devices.
I understood Miracast is true screen mirroring, but the few receiver devices I looked at, mention technical limits, like (example) 15fps, which makes me doubt their use for video mirroring.
Thus I haven't bought anything yet :-\
More testimonies of miracast & Chromecast users could be interesting!
screen mirroring works fine with chromecast as long as you are not doing something effected by input/screen lag. Watching video from an app that is not natively supporting chromecasting (showbox...) is relatively simple. If you are on this forum you shoild have the ability to do it, just maybe not someone who can only facebook on their tab might have small issues. Casting pictures, slides, presentations or websites is fine too since there is no need to worry about the lag.
Gaming is annother story if you the person playing os wanting to use the tv screen then you have to pick a game with care. Any game that requires good to impossible timing (flappy anything or one finger death punch) is a great way for a masochist to have fun with out a sadist being in the room. Games that do not need fast timing like turn based strategy games or certain types of puzzle games are fine and work great. Even quite a few emulators work well like this but with the same game choice restrictions.
The screen lag you get is not anything like low fps it is input lag from the time difference it would take to simply send the information to your tablet vs the time it takes to send the information to your router and the router to send the information to the chromecast. I would assume miracast would suffer frome the same issues, though I haven't tried it yet.

Interesting.
Is both screen + audio sent to the Chromecast then? Or are there audio/video sync issues... If video happens on tv but lags behind the video+audio of the tablet...
The audio went out of the tv when I did a cast using cast screen. Most of the casting I do from my device uses uPnPlay a wonderful free app that is as good as most if not all the paid upnp apps (bubble upnp/ allcast). I have never had any issues with audio desync using that app.
when I did a sceen cast with show box I did have a streaming hicup (a slight stutter) once or twice but that may have been due to my old router (wrt54g) and not so much the chromecast.

Never had any sync issues casting with chromecast.
In most situations you would never have to screen cast as chromecast can pretty much cast anything web or local natively.
Presentations is really the only use I can see for screen casting.

as I mentioned earlier, my TV cable provider, has an app that streams live TV. We have a 2nd TV in the bedroom for which we don't have a decoder box, but I hope I could screenmirror the TV stream that I can get through the App (audio&video).

It should work fine for that then. You may get the occasional hiccup depending on many things but for the most part I do not see any reason why it would not work for you.

So I caved and bought an Chromecast (CC)
Findings:
- screencast works fine most of the time. Transfers audio and video, and keeps good sync. But some applications cause a crash and reboot of the tablet (e.g. mirroring of MX Player playing a video)
- casting youtube works fine.
- the app I was most interested in (a TV streaming app of my local TV cable company) in fact does both Chromecasting, and works in screen casting mode. Hurray)
- good wifi reception is needed on both the tablet and the CC
and a general point
- according to reading around, it's not possible to use the CC without active internet connection, not even for local screencasting. Technically, it seems unnecessary to have an active internet connection on the WLAN that connects both the CC and the tablet (or pc), for local casting or screencasting. Read more at e.g. https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chromecast/XRktmNTk0QY
Sorry to take the thread off-topic from Miracast - but I think it's interesting to hear testimonies of both Chromecast and Miracast, to compare

Can't stream videos properly

I have the pro 10.1 SM-T520 stock everything never messed with it at all.
Any way I try and stream videos I have problems. At the very least it will be laggy, the audio will play and the video will freeze, and my entire tablet will become unresponsive. Even worse, it will sometimes turn off my WiFi, and then turn it back on, no matter which wifi I'm connected to. It doesn't matter if I'm on YouTube, Amazon, Netflix, or in my browser, I can't stream any video properly.
Is this a common issue? Are there any fixes for this?
TIA

Could be your router or your provider causing the problem. Have you tried a different wifi, like a friends house, to see if it happens elsewhere? Maybe try a different router. Right now I have 12 devices connected to my home network, 7 of them are wireless. My son is currently watching Youtube, my other son is playing multiplayer game on my PS3, my wife is playing WOW with a sports channel playing on her Tab Pro 10.1 and I'm watching past episodes of Live Free or Die on my Tab Pro 10.1. Each episode is playing perfect. If my wife has issues with lag I hear about it within 5 seconds of it starting. LOL The rest of the devices are cell phones and a Chromecast (2nd Gen).
Our home setup is 200Mbps download/15Mbps upload. Have cable company supplied modem and 3 routers, Netgear R6250 AC1600 in the front of the house, an R6250 in the back of the house and a wirelessly connected WNR3500L v2 N300 for the Roku and Playstation 3.
Forgot to mention that my wifes Tab Pro 10.1 is unrooted. My tablet is rooted running Android KitKat 4.4.2. All 3 routers are using the latest DD-WRT Kong Mod instead of Netgear firmware.
I just noticed in your first post that WiFi shuts off. Do you have a WiFi manager running on your tablet? Rather than rely on the stock WiFi manager that disconnected occasionally I downloaded and use WiFi Manager written by Kostya Vasilyev located in the play store. I installed it on both tablet and phone along with my wife's tablet and phone. It keeps the connection alive, or at least tries to.
I hope I was able to help even a little bit. Good luck to you. PEACE

I've had this problem on many different wifis, and in all of them I've never had a problem with my phone or computer. So I don't see how the issue would be with the router

ISSUE: Hulu Stopped Streaming

Hi:
I have a Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 WiFi SM-T520. I've been running LineageOS 14.1 (Android 7.1.1) on it quite successfully for some time now.
Recently, however, Hulu has stopped streaming for me. The app starts up just fine, and I can browse titles without an issue. When I stream a title, the advertisement shows fine. However, once the actual content is supposed to start, the streaming stalls, and I am presented with an Connection Error (Code: PLAYBACK_BUFFER_WATCHDOG_REACHED), with a "Unique error ID of 1465fbaa-f".
Other streaming services, such as Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and Netflix, continue to work just fine.
Since the ads stream fine, I suspect this to be a DRM issue. Has something changed in the last few months? Anyone else seeing this?

Strange Firestick 4k issue, any ideas?

We have Firestick 4K hooked up to several TVs to use Netflix, HBO, Disney+, and some of those other movie apps, if you know what I mean.
We've been running them for years with zero issues, including IPTV during NFL season.
I thought our internet was acting up because of an issue that appeared about 3 weeks ago. I did all the usual, Cleared Caches, restart devices, hard reboot on devices, changed DNS, etc... Then I switched out our router (Verizon Fios 1 gig), issue still remained.
So the issue is very strange and I'm hoping someone can lead me to a solution.
Suddenly,
Some preview thumbnails will not load on Firestick home screen
A couple of Apps like Disney+ and HBO Max will not load(but Netflix works fine)
SmartTube Apk(no ads) will not load preview thumbnails or videos(but regular YouTube works fine)
My other Movie.TV apks will not load thumbnails or any streams
When I was using WiFi calling on my cell, I kept dropping calls
So we thought it might be a Fire device issue, maybe due to an update but....
My son and my wife both noticed around the same time that the same not loading Thumbnails and videos issues was happening on their Twitter app on their phone while using wi-fi. My son also noticed that a couple other apps like DoorDash wouldn't load either, but all work fine on mobile data.
Other than that internet functions as it should. Our Download and Upload speeds are fine. We can browse websites on our laptops fine. I even just bought tickets on a popular Ticketmaster on sale the other day without issue. My wife and son both work from home remotely, and neither of them have had any daily issues regarding their access for work.
A little more info, when we connect the Fire Devices to our unlimited mobile data via hot spot on our phone, all Firestick and video apps work as they should without issue.
I have been having the same issue. I also have Verizon internet and have also done every possible reset, update or change to the router, with no improvement. For us Paramount Plus, Amazon Music and BET+ are not working, but DirecTV Stream works perfectly. Up until a week or so ago all apps were functioning normally. I'm reaching out to Verizon today, but honestly don't think it has anything to do with the service because all other devices (and we have several) are working properly on the Wi-Fi. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
After some research, I found out the issue.
Verizon(my ISP) is blocking/throttling some streaming apps. We bought a trial for a VPN, used that, and everything worked fine. All issues were resolved.
Thanks for the update!
Just got off the phone with Verizon and they were finally able to fix the issue after I told the rep the Wi-Fi issue was only effected android (Google TV) and android adjacent devices (Amazon Fire TV). He immediately said it was an IPv6 issue, and proceeded to disable the feature. After rebooting the router, all of our devices worked as they had before the issue. He informed me that the feature can be disabled on your own if you log into your router's account via the internet. You can also call Verizon to have them do it.
