On UCUEMJ2 and Settings>About>Update doesn't find any updates (KitKat) - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I own my i747, but use it for work. The only way to get e-mail is through GOOD and my company policies don't allow GOOD usage on a device that's rooted. That means I'm stuck with stock, unrooted ROM's. Which is alright, since this isn't my primary phone, so whatever.
Now, the problem is I'm on the official UCUEMJ2 and, whenever I go to Settings>About>Update, nothing is ever found. I'm still stuck in 4.3 and my phone doesn't seem to find the KitKat update on AT&T servers. Why is this?
After reading a bit, I learned the UCUEMJB previous firmware prior to the KitKat update was UCUEMJB and most upgrade paths start there. However, I have UCUEMJ2. Could that be it? What can I do at this point? I even tried KIES and it finds no update. I also am trying not to do anything that requires a full flash (like ODIN) because I'd have to go through the process of requesting access to GOOD again, which is a nightmare with my company.
Help!

Simplest method to get to kk in my opinion would be to flash stock 4.1.1 via Odin and just keep running ota to kk. It may take a while but it is straight forward to me. However, you lose GOOD.
There are some threads in the general section that may help.
The problem is att never released a full 4.3 or 4.4 ROM, only updates.
You could also ask docholiday who is very knowledgeable.

because that 4.3 bootloader is unofficial.

Yup. MJ2 was the leaked 4.3 build. Audit13's suggestion should work just fine, but alternatively, you could flash the MJB firmware via Odin, factory reset, and then the ota for kk should become available within a day. Maybe immediately.
The MJB firmware is only available in a thread in the General section. Might be a couple pages in. It's not official, but it'll accomplish the same thing and has been used by many others already.
Just an alternative is all. It would allow you to skip a couple of ota updates from 4.1.1, but you may be more comfortable going with the official way. Entirely up to you.

I was trying to avoid doing that, as I explained in the OP. However, it sounded like I had no choice, so I went ahead and tried to do that and it seems the results were catastrophic.
I got ODIN 3.10 (which seems to be the latest), downloaded "I747UCUEMJB_2024954_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5.zip" from this thread (the link in step 4 of ndp1's reply, not the original post; this seems to have been in the original post, which has been updated since), put my i747 in download mode and flashed successfully (with the attached options) on the first attempt. PASS. No problem. Except my phone won't wake up or show any sign of life. None. Looks like, somehow, I bricked it and my only possible solution will be a jig.
Any ideas? Can a successful ODIN flash of that file cause this?
EDIT: Just in case, I did go ahead and buy a jig on eBay and should have it in 3 days. Sucks. =\

In Odin 3.10, I assume BL stands for Bootloader. In Odin 3.07, as shown below, there is a PDA section that is not shown in version 3.10.
In Odin 3.07, I believe the file I747UCUEMJB_2024954_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 was to be flashed in the PDA block.
In Odin 3.10, I believe the file I747UCUEMJB_2024954_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 was to be flashed in the AP block.
If you have a suitable SD card, you could try the 4.3 debrick image method as shown here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549068
If the jig doesn't work, you may have to have the phone repaired via jtag.

Darn it! Is there really a reason to upgrade from ODIN 3.07? I totally screwed up, it sounds like.
The first thing that thread says is "this method will not work for any of your 4.4.2 ota bricks if you flashed the 4.4.2 modem on the mjb bootloader, the only way to fix those bricks is with a new emmc, motherboard or a new phone. Jtag won't save you this time the phone is now a glorious paperweight."
Not only does that say the method won't work, but also that JTAG won't be able to do much either. Do you have any experience showing otherwise? Granted, I had the leaked MJ2 build, not the MJB, but something tells me the same will apply to that one.
Thanks a lot for your assistance!

I'm not sure why Odin 3.10 was released. It may have been released to handle newer models.
Try the 4.3 debrick image as it may work. The file was flashed to the wrong partition so maybe the phone doesn't have the 4.4.2 bootloader or 4.3 modem.
What happens when you connect the phone to your computer? Do you see the phone in Device Manager?

I honestly haven't tried connecting it to my computer (DUH!). I just made sure it was fully charged (charged it overnight, even) and tried turning it on, removing the battery, putting it back in, trying to go into download more... Absolutely no signs of life.
When I get home tonight, I will try that and I will try that debrick procedure. I do have a 16GB SD card I can use for it.
I will report and want to thank you again for your help.

The debrick method should work for you. In fact, start with the 4.1.1 debrick.img. This way, if it works, you'll be able to flash the official release with odin. If it doesn't you can then try the 4.3 image.
4.1.1 debrick.img is here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23681161096070540
It should be recoverable though. You didn't have the official 4.3 on your device and you didn't flash the 4.4.2 modem. Every other type of brick I've seen can be fixed either with our debrick method or jtag.

Still no good news. I am using my SanDisk 16GB SD card and I have successfully flashed (using Win32DiskImage) the following, one by one: (a) I747debrick_4.1.1.zip you just provided, (b) debrick-SGH-I747U-CUEMJB3.img from that thread, (c) debrick-SGH-I747M-UEMK5.img from that thread.
In every case, I removed the battery (which is fully charged), put the debrick SD card in the phone, installed the battery again and press and held Vol Down + Home + Power and nothing happens.
By the way, my laptop does see the phone. At first, it showed under Other Devices and named QHSUSB_LOAD. However, it now shows under Ports as "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM5)", as shown in the attached screenshot.
Still stuck. Any advise please?

QHSUSB_DLOAD = Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader
Same thing, just shortened name.
You may need to use a different card. Ive seen lots of SanDisk ones not work. Can you borrow one from a friend? Has to be at least 16GB, but larger is just fine too.
Also, don't give up after the first try on either card, many people, myself included, had to rerun the procedure several times before it worked.
I know the 4.1.1 debrick.img I linked is good. I've used it myself. And the 4.3 image in the debrick threads op has been verified good too. (Make sure the md5 matches on your download). If you have an I747, that I747M image won't work. Only use ones for your specific model.
There is another method of creating the sd card too. Basically, you create it in Linux. You can use a LiveCD if you don't already have a Linux box.
Go to the debrick thread stickied in Tmobiles development forum for instructions. Just make sure you use the I747 files.
I've never used the windows method myself. Others have had success with it though. I've fixed a T999 and an I747 using the Linux LiveCD though.

OK, no luck.
I came home yesterday and the only cards I had were all SanDisk. I found a 16GB Samsung card that I tried using for a while, but the card was just bad, so I never managed to flash the images on it to try debricking. I decided to buy a new card today and try again.
So I went to Best Buy after work and bought a 16GB Samsung card. I first flashed the 4.1.1 debrick image you provided, put in the phone, inserted the battery, press and held Home, Vol Down and Power and nothing happened. Just in case, I plugged the phone to see if my laptop would see it and nothing.
I then tried the debrick-SGH-I747U-CUEMJB3 image with similar results.
At this point, I think I just need to wait for the JIG to arrive, but I doubt that will work.

Sorry your having so much trouble getting it fixed... i case it comes down to needing a jtag service, the post linked below mentioned one that only cost $25. It was an eBay store, payless_technology.

Let us know what happens though.

I'm curious, what class is your mircosd card? I think only class 6 and up worked..

Class 10. It's this one. The SanDisk 16GB card I tried is also Class 10.
By the way, my laptop keeps reading my phone as "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008", only ODIN doesn't see it in download mode. I've tried versions 3.07 and 3.10 and tried download mode in many ways: with debrick SD, with jig, with both, plugging cable in without battery or SD card, etc. The laptop beeps (hardware detected) and it shows in my device manager with the name mentioned above, but that's it.

[Q] need a solution possibly semi bricked epic touch no usb to pc recognition

I need help any ideas or similar experiences?
I flashed a bad renamed tar file that ended up being [email protected] gt i9100 firmware
Now when i go into Odin mode which I still have , I get no USB to PC recognition ?
No yellow com port in Odin?
Even when u plug USB in it just turns on automaticaly and shows gti910 on boot up then goes right intob 3e stock recovery and no button options are compatible with phone and the charging mode is at a standstill with a small circle not moving ,the battery was very very low before this all happened but enough to power up as well.
I've tried 4 USB cords uninstall kies, reinstall kies, tried other Odin versions ,
Tried 2 desktops and a laptop ,thanks to a botched tar file for a i9100 that was named eg30.tar!!
Could it be that USB mounting has been cut internally or not compatible with the device having wrong firmware? What about USB debugging obviously not enabled because the phone won't even boot
My binary count was at 8 when I got phone now its 11 does to many flash attempts affect anything
I think it would flash correct tar if only could get USB to work
If I atleast have Odin am I in luck? Any any similiar experiences or info would help!
I can't return it cause was bought used and sprint knows esn was tied to an alternate line over a month ago
Try this ..... By the way next time just bump your other post it didn't need another thread

If you did flash an non-Sprint ROM your USB is likely disabled. You can try moving something to an MicroSD card and flashing from recovery, JTAG or take to Sprint. (Flashing from recovery, at least from other posts, will not restore the USB use.) I'll try to find the last post on this, someone else had this recently.

[Q] Disconnected phone while flashing new boatloader... bricked phone? please help

so I was installing a new boatloader through odin and it failed to install; so I disconnected it. Ever since then, my computer simply will NOT recognize my phone. I have tried every possible method (using different slots and cable). Still, it will not recognize my phone at all.
Has anyone here ever encountered a similar situation and have found a solution?
I would highly appreciate any help. Thanks
What does the phone boot to?
Have you tried a USB jig?
The bootloader takes seconds to flash. Did you really press start and immediatly pull the USB cord? or did it not complete then you pulled the cord? If the latter, what did ODIN say in the logs?
I can get into odin or recovery mode with no problem, I loaded a custom testing version of an ICS Rom that failed to completely install.
I am waiting for my usb jig to come in the mail.
It installed like 80% and then said failed, then I removed it because it said it failed.
I know all my drivers are good because my sister has the same phone and it is unrooted and odin recognizes it fine.

If you can get into Odin mode then Odin should be able to recognize your phone. Are you sure that Odin on your PC is not recognizing your phone?
Also, try flashing the el26 stock rooted update through cwm. Calk has the appropriate zip over in the dev section.

Haha, in all seriousness though, I hope you can get it figured out man, bricked phones are no fun!
yes, im 100% sure, Ive read of a few cases of people having similar problem. Problem that come from disconnecting a phone while loading a new boatloader. Once that happens, odin will not recognize a phone even if it is in Odin mode. Ive spent atleast 15 hours in total trying to get it to work

Is this one made for E4GT or one for the european GS2?
If you can get into recovery just take the sd card out and put it in a sd reader and put a rom on there and flash it. I would use the stock rom. Something simillar happened to me and this is how I fixed it. I didnt have a card reader so I just used my digital camera, Thank god for that!!! Hope it all works out.

Good question! I almost bricked my phone by putting a rom on there that was for the international version! You need to triple check to make sure what you are putting on is actually for your phone!

Your problem isn't that you disconnected the phone while flashing a new bootloader.
Your problem is you flashed the european GS2 version of the bootloader. After doing that the USB port is pretty much disabled and nobody has found how to enable it.
interesting... any theoretical methods to get it to work? do you think there will be a solution to fix it?

Nothing should be flashed to the Epic Touch unless its in the development section for the Epic Touch. Even then you should read up and know the pros and cons of flashing it. I don't recall anyone getting their phone back after doing this.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Well Mobile ODIN won't flash the bootloader AFAIK, so if you have no way to flash the bootloader, the only other possibility will probably be JTAG, which is basically opening up the phone connecting to some pins/leads on the board and using some software to flash. I haven't seem anyone posting about this but probably there are techs who have the proper setup to do it.
damn, do you think if I go to a sprint corporate store and just say I was trying to update the phone via samsung kies OTA or something, will they be able to fix it? I am waiting for my jig to come in the mail to clear the download count, any opinions what I should tell sprint to avoid getting my warrenty voided?

Ya because like everyone else said flashing that file that wasnt for your phone messed up the sd reader. Same thing happened to me once but I was still able to acess the internal storage that the phone has built in but i didnt have any roms on there. I was however able to flash through odin and dowload mode. Thank god that worked for me! If that isnt working for you I gotta be honest I really dont see a way to get the phone back up and running but I am by no means a pro. I would keep at it. When I almost bricked my phone I was going to give up too but I stuck with it and the fine people on this site pulled me through! You are at the right place trust me very smart people here!
thanks, this phone has been bricked for a week, Im still waiting on my usb jig to come in the mail so i can hopefully clear the binary download count because I want to take it to sprint? since my usb and sd reader isnt working, will the usb clear the odin thing? if it doesnt, im completely screwed. im willing to short out my phone worst case scenario... I need it a replacement (i dont have insurance but i have warrenty)... any ideas? should i short it out or take it to sprint... what excuse should I make up if I decide to take it?
Will the usb jig clear the download count even though my usb and sd reader doesnt work. (the phone still charges through usb)

Ya if you have warranty i would actually just short it out! I had a friend that had an iPhone and he hooked it up to a computer with a messed up usb. It shorted it out, he took it back with his warranty info and walked out with a brand new iPhone no questions asked. If you dont and they see that it was routed you are going to be **** out of luck I can tell ya that. They definitely will inspect it to make sure there was no foul play with it trust me, best bet if you cant get it running is to short it out, and use the warranty. When you take it in just say it went off and you couldn't get it to go back on.
Honestly breaking the phone is your best option since the insurance will cover that. If you short it out or make the batter overload while it's in the phone then it's covered by the warranty. Also, clearing the download counter is pointless - if Sprint does manage to fix your phone it'll be pretty obvious you did something that made it FUBAR - mostly the international GS2 bootloader. Also, isn't the international GS2 GSM? Which means you can't reset it using a JIG, GSM versions don't support it.
Either way when you get a new one - make sure you read EVERYTHINGlet me say this again since people seem to take this stuff lightly: READ EVERYTHING BEFORE FLASHING if we had ICS for this phone don't you think the Dev section would be blowing up with ICS ROMs? Common sense seems to be the one thing that isn't common anymore....
Hope you figure something out though but I wouldn't hold my breath.

[Q] Rogers SGH-I747M Hard Brick, JTAG only option?

Hello,
I just rooted my Samsung Galaxy S3 today. I copied several ROM zip files (i think there were 4) to my SD card to test out using MTP. As you may know, MTP (on Windows 7) is not the greatest experience. Since the copy was taking so long, I canceled it. I now know that when you do that MTP seems to leave the incomplete file there with the fill file size. I suspect the is the root of the issue.
I went to install the Omega v46.1 Jelly Bean 4.2.2 ROM after testing a different one that I was not happy with. Omega game up with its installer, everything seemed to work good. It asked to wipe the user data, and reboot the device. All looks good. I could not wait to try another ROM.
Blank screen.... waiting, waiting... Maybe they just have no boot logo.... waiting. Okay after waiting several hours for it to boot I thought maybe I would try to reboot and clear the user data and cache myself. Tried to reboot. Nothing happened. No vibration, no LED, not logo.
Cannot get into Download mode. Cannot get into Recovery.
Pull battery, wait. Put battery in while holding Volume key, Power button and Home. Nothing at all. Battery pull and waited a few hours. Tried again. Nothing. Panic starts.... I remembered the MTP file copy and checked the ROM zip files. Incomplete zip file.... Damn.
It is not easy to cover everything I have tried to fix it or all of the research I have done, but I'll try.
Researched bricked devices. Learned of hard vs soft. This does not appear to be soft to me, but why would my bootloader be damaged by installing this ROM?? I am new to this, but I think I understand the difference pretty good.

Researched the Jig more to make sure I got it right. Tested again with multimeter... It all looks good to me. Damn, it must be a real hard brick.
When I plug the phone into my PC without the battery in the phone I get a red LED.
When I plug it in with the battery in, I get no LED, no screen/logo, ect. Nothing. Windows does detect a device called "QHSUSB_DLOAD". I got the Qualcomm driver and QPTS hoping that there would be something that I could do... maybe backup my friend's bootrom and put it on my phone... The COM11 port from the device is not detected, so even if I could figure out a way to do what I said, I have no way to do it. Could be a Windows 7 unsigned drivers issue, but I have tried 3 different solutions to that without knowing how the device should look in Device Manager if the driver is accepted.
Looked for other solutions...

Perhaps I can use this idea to get my friend to back his up for me off his Rogers S3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2374958
I could try the linux option tomorrow, or the JTAG tomorrow if I drive an hour away to a guy that can do it.

The COM11 port from the device is not detected, so even if I could figure out a way to do what I said, I have no way to do it. Could be a Windows 7 unsigned drivers issue, but I have tried 3 different solutions to that without knowing how the device should look in Device Manager if the driver is accepted.

You guys flashed a ROM for the international S3. Check the forum you got that ROM from.
Quite sure JTAG is a good place to start now.

By Mr.X ''If you want to create your own dump from a friends device the command in a rooted adb shell would be as follows but not exact depending where you want the dump file to end up being on your sd cards. "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/storage/sdcard1/debrick.bin bs=1024 count=81920" That is what I used my my co-workers CM 10.2 rom to get the 4.3 bootloader/debrick dump. NOTE: the device has to be rooted with a working busybox that supports the dd command''

Hello,
I just rooted my Samsung Galaxy S3 today.
I spent the last few hours trying to find a micro USB cable that I could use to make a USB Jig. I did that using this guide and it did not help
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2121306
And this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8822843
Researched the Jig more to make sure I got it right. Tested again with multimeter... It all looks good to me. Damn, it must be a real hard brick.
When I plug the phone into my PC without the battery in the phone I get a red LED.
When I plug it in with the battery in, I get no LED, no screen/logo, ect. Nothing. Windows does detect a device called "QHSUSB_DLOAD". Just fyi, in case you didn't see my other posts about it, updating from 4.3 to 4.4.2 using Mobile Odin will brick the device. MO cannot flash the full firmware so your brick was caused by flashing the modem onto 4.3 firmware.

Do you have an I747M? If you have the I747 that image won't work.
I just posted two 4.3 images to try in the debrick thread. This should probably be discussed there anyway just so all of the info is easy to find.

its i747m rogers bricked it by flashing 4.4.2 with mobile odin
Mobile odin cannot flash the full firmware, so you ended up with the 4.4.2 modem on 4.3 firmware which we know will brick.
You will need to use a debrick.img from another I747M, probably from another Rogers one specifically. Not sure if it'll work or not from another carrier.
Note that we have yet to get it working for any device that bricked by flashing the modem. Watch the debrick thread for updates.

Can you get into download mode? Does it show up on Odin? If it does then flash a root66 img root66_TMO_T999UVUEMJC for my Tmobile T999 This is what I used when I thought my phone was bricked. I used Odin to flash TWRP recovery and then format, and flash a custom rom. Good luck

Rom Manager most likely partitioned your INTERNAL SD Card instead. You'd have to Flash Root66 for Android 4.2 via Odin.

I was on the pac 4.4 nightly, had flashed new nightly updates regularly for nearly a month with no problems, but then decided to switch to cm11, when I tried to flash that it gave me the bootloader error, so I went to the method that was a supposed fix for that and flashed it and thats when it went dead.
Same Problem
Hey guys I have the same exact problem heres how it started, which I think accurately describes everyone else with the same problem:
1) I downloaded the correct TWRP for my phone and unlocked it previously with ODIN.
2) So far everything is fine, now I find a nice new ROM which is stable and try to flash it. The rom was: FlashingDroid_S5_v2.2
3)First I deleted cache and dalvic cache as well, basically the default wipe.
4) I flashed the ROM and it said it was succesful, I click reboot, and nothing
Symptoms
1)No vibration
2)No screen image whatsoever
3)No signs of booting up with computer
4) Does not boot up using JIG method
5)Computer does not see phone
Notes
1) I tried checking the pulse of the phone W/out battery and gave me very little wattage, and eventually it drained out
2) Then I tried plugging it into my computer and the front red light went on but no power in phone and PC cannot see it
3) Sometimes when I put the battery in, it gives me a quick flash, from the flashlight on the back, OR it gives a millisecond of a vibration
4)Before I flashed I had android 4.3 Jellybean stock with root-again I tried to flash FlashingDroid_S5_v2.2 w/TWRP
Trials to resolve in which did NOT work
1) I tried putting it into download mode, with JIG but no battery and had someone put the battery in WHILE i was pressing HOME+POWER+VOLUME DOWN with the JIG
Results: It sometimes gave me a small vibration, but no results
2) Tried to install correct ODIN and KIES software
Result: Gave me negative sound on laptop meaning it does not recognize device-it does not show up in My Computer either
Having the same issue.
I used the FlashingDroid_S5_v2.2 rom. Wiped the phone before flashing, the prompt said successful and rebooted.
Then nothing.
No response from charging, power, download mode... nothing.

[Q] odin-stuck-at-setup connection-black-screen

Hi, i have a problem with my Samsung G2(SGH-T989), i'm running Win 8
phone shows black screen, no logo no nothing! Phone was rooted prior to all this.
The phone however does install drivers or not i don't know but when i plugged phone via usb it shows as per the pictures below.
Odin (i run as admin) shows com ports, Have tried all different combos (take battery out, hold volume up and down, replace battery, start odin and re-plug via usb etc) but nothing works
ODIN hangs at 'setup connection'
I have downloaded the stock firmware from sammobile (its one package) and added it via the PDA section, even tried the different versions of ODIN. Also tried removing Sim and Sd card.
The phone is getting recognized via device manager but stumped how to get Odin working
Anyone else had this and solved it?
Thanks
First things to try,
Different Odin version... That version you have is old. Try 3.04 or 3.07...they've worked best for me.
Try a different cable. A different USB port. And if needed, a different pc.
You did install the Samsung drivers on the pc?
If kies is running, kill any mention of it in task manager, processes.
It could be a Windows 8 Issue... But I have 7, so don't know.
And try a google search too to see if you find more on this.
Good luck!

thanks for your reply,
sadly, i have tried with different version of odin that you had mention and also tried with different port and cable but all these not working for me.
when i try with odin 3.04 or odin 3.07 it doesn't show com-port highlighted in yellow color as older version(ODIN 1.85) does.
i can't see logo , no nothing in phone and even phone won't vibrating when i start it after removing battery.
help me plz -_-
It's likely bricked. That or the battery is completely dead and not charging.
But, if there's no sign of life as you say, I don't know how Odin and the pc see it at all?
But for Odin to work, you must be in download mode. Or it will never work. But if nothing is happening on the phone, you obviously aren't in download mode.
I think it's toast to be honest.
