Hi guys,
I just got my nexus 7 (2013) today (my dad brought one from the US, I live in Belgium) the performance is really good, but i noticed the battery charges slowly! Obviously I cannot use the included charge brick since it's a US charger and i need an EU charger so I'm using an IPad charger rated at 5.1v @ 2.1amps and my nexus 7 charges 7% in half an hour! I am using the included usb cable though, I already installed a custom ROM on it (paranoid android, with elementalX kernel with usb fast charge enabled) There is a chance i'm just not used to the big battery in the nexus 7 (my old tablet being 2200mah and my phone being 2375mah) or the device really doesn't like other charging bricks? Can anyone help me? I can easily get a US to EU power plug but I just want some answers from you guys first!
thanks,
noahvt
EDIT: fixed it by using my old tablet's charger

I'm running the Galaxy Nexus with the extended battery. Curious if I could use a more powerful charger to charge faster.
The charger that came with the phone is a 5W (5V, 1000mA). Could I use an iPad 2 charger (10W) to charge up the nexus faster? Any experience with this?
I am pretty sure the phone regulates how fast it can charge. Some chargers that are only recognized as USB will charge slower than a recognized 'phone' charger. I experienced this with my fascinate when using a kindle charger. Using the more powerful iPad charger will almost certainly not charge your phone faster (because the phone probably allows a maximum charging input consistent with the dedicated 5w phone chargers), and may even charge slower as it is recognized as a USB power source and not a dedicated phone charger.
Which battery are u using the 2100 mah?

Yeah, I'm using the extended battery (2100 mAh). But the question could be asked of either battery (1850 mAh or 2100 mAh).

Yea of course I was just saying that it doesnt seem worth it to me to get the 2100mah over the 1850 as u really won't be able to tell a huge difference in battery longevity unless u use the 3500 mah which is what I'm waiting for ever so patiently.

Is there a way in ICS at the Galaxy Nexus to see if the Phone is in "USB" or "Charger" charging mode?
On my old Nexus One it showed in the preferences in system information which mode it is using for charging.
Or maybe see the actual mA instead of the mode would be ok too.
I don't have the extended battery, but I know if I charge my nexus with my playbook charger, its way faster than the charger that came with the phone... The iPad charger should charge your battery faster without damaging the phone or the battery.

I wouldn't recommend the ipad2 charger.. used my gfs iPad charger the other day when I was in a pinch.. woke up to the phone burning hot..
Also it didn't charge fully after being on it for 7 hours.. go figure

On my stock 4.0.2, Settings->About Phone->Status. Battery Status will show either AC or USB I think in parentheses. My phone is fully charged right now so I can't remember the exact wording.

I use the iGo MicroJuice 2.1A Dual USB Auto Charger in my car with a generic micro USB charging cable. I had problems initially with my N1 using a data USB cable as it always "slow" charged and showed USB charging in the System Settings. With a charge only (data pins shorted I believe) cable, this USB adapter charges both my GN and my N1 as an AC source.
Remember that amperage is equivalent to water flow if analogies help. If the consumer can't or won't draw more current than the source can provide, amperage drops. So, plugging in a fully charged device where the device has shut off the charging circuit, an ammeter will show 0A.
Another consideration is that an AC USB charger is typically plugged into a source of 15-20A. There is no way that it is pulling that kind of current, hence, the connected ammeter would only show the real-time draw. The 2.1A car charger that I have is only the rated potential current. One of these days I'm going to strip down a USB charging cable and connect an ammeter and shoot a video of the phone charging from 0% to 100% displaying the ammeter and an application like Where's My Droid Power.
Sorry for the pontification...
Hi guys can't find an exact answer in search, I have a galaxy s3 i9305 but I'm assuming that part doesn't matter, just got the genuine samsung 3000mah battery and its taking 8 hours to charge on both stock rom and sentinel rom, using a non samsung cable and a 10v iphone mains plug with genuine samsung dock I'm getting 300ma using the App Store app to monitor, if I remove dock it goes to 500ma which is weird and I want to keep dock, if I use genuine samsung cable i ordered online as I don't have the original it charges at just 100ma so anyone a clue whats going on and what do I need to get the full 1000ma and charge in like 4 - 5 hours? I expected more charge time with the bigger battery but not double, please help.
Thanks
Tony
Not one person got the extended battery from Samsung and having slow charging? Just tried another cable and got 900ma without dock and 300 with so why's it so low with dock?
mine seems to charge to slow, or maybe cuz im not using the stock cable and im using my usb ports on computer
but if i have stock charger on wall outlet, how long is the charge top up take from 10% to 100%, thanks
yea mine is charging slow through the computer but I dont know if its because of the nexus 4 usb cable im using.

Obviously charging through a 500mAh USB 2.0 port would be slower then through a 1.35A wall charger.
can I use 2A charger?
Yes you can use a 2amp charger I was using my S4's and it charged fast
Sent from my totally stock Nexus 7 FHD
Interesting, I've only charged mine twice since getting it last sunday, and I've not paid any attention as to how long it's actually taking, one was through a proper charger, and finally today plugged into my computer
The New N7 ships with a 1.3 amp charger, and it's definitely slower to charge than the old N7 (which shipped with a 2.1 amp supply).
But I have yet to determine if putting a higher current supply on the new N7 will result in more current being delivered than the stock charger.

thanks, I will try to see how much it will be faster or not
It takes about 3 hours to charge from 0% to 100% with the charger it came with. Using a 2 amp charger doesn't decrease the time, as the device will charge at a maximum of about 1100-1200 mAh.

Android Tuner battery history.
Can anyone tell me what the power draw should be using the stock charger and cable?
Battery monitor is telling me that it is +237ma, it is taking 12 hours to charge. I have sent back to Asus via PC world (what possessed me to buy from there I dont know) and they have told me there is nothing wrong with the device. I have flashed the stock image and still getting notoriously slow charge times.

With the stock charger and cable, the battery should be charging with close to 1200mA; the charger draws 7.4W from the outlet (at 230V).
There is current limiting based on the voltage the tablet sees, a USB cable with thin wires can drastically limit the charge current.
I lost the original charger to my 10.1 2014 Edition and I've had problems ever since. Earlier this week I thought I would order a Limefuel 24W 4.8A dual port rapid charger. I thought to myself: Hey I can untick Power saving and have all my needed apps running. Even using a root mod to run 4 way multitasking. Yet it's still sucking up more juice than the charger is spitting out. Am I doing something wrong or did I get a faulty unit from China? This was NEVER a problem when using the Damn Samsung charger along with the foreign adapter dongle it shipped with. I thought getting one so powerful would charge it even faster.
Maybe I should just ship it back and get an official unit from Samsung? Although I don't see how getting less energy will make the tablet charge any better

4.8 amp should do the trick. Could be a fake unit. Is it heavy? 4.8 amp is pretty much, so it should be as big as a lap top charger.
But remember , a cheap usb cable may also be the problem. Try a short one of good quality.
Edit.Just tried a 1.2 amp Nexus 5 charger on my P605. Charging good on full brightness.
Thanks

The charging circuitry and s/w on the device determine charging speed. Do a search. Someone posted the different charging amperages using the stock charge and Apple and HTC chargers and USB cables. The device detected the latter and charged at about half of the former.

Yes thats obvious and i doesnt even need to " do a search ".
The problem was it wouldnt charge at all.
Thanks

Does the p600 also not charge correctly with a non samsung charger? I remember my p1000 requiring an adapter that had a resistor between two connections to charge correctly at a laptop or different charger.

Just thought I'd drop a quick one about turbo charging your Nexus 7 2013 tablet. I wondered if my Droid Turbo Charger would make any difference on the Nexus 7 tablet so i gave it a try. Wow! It really charges that baby up quick. It doesn't put a message on the screen about recognizing a special charger; it just appears to start charging normally. Mine went from 75% to full in just a few minutes though. Has anyone else experimented with this any?
Yes. It's a quick charge 2.0 cable with the droid turbo.
The device was released with QC 2.0 out of the box. Unfortunately there were no QC 2.0 chargers available when it dropped. They're finally dropping. HTC m8 is also compatible but want released with the charger.
Nexus 7 2013 has quick charge 2.0? Didn't think we had that yet...
I would be cautious in charging to often with a turbo charger. Not good for battery longevity if you plan on using tablet for more than two years...
Or can change your battery out yourself

Does it overheat while charging it this way?
The battery must be able to handle fast charging, is not just like plugging a faster charger. I do believe the Nexus 7 2013 does not contain the battery for it, when you install a custom kernel like faux and use his fauxclock app it clearly taste that setting the charging rate above 900mA is risky for the Nexus. So, beware.
