GPS problems 4.4.4 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I've been using c-rom for a while. I wanted to upgrade when some kernels started dropping after 9-10-14, but it seems like every ROM I try, I can not get my gps to lock. No matter what. I tried upgrading my modem to nd8 but that hasn't helped either.
I'm at a loss now. Any tips or anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks for the help lol
Only ROM that works with gps locking for me is dirty unicorns 7.8. I'm on nd8 modem also.

I'm having the same problem. I'm on MK3 and it has been a hit or miss with getting GPS to lock. I can get Slim rom and Octo to lock but it looks as if anything that is based off cyanogenmod kernel does not work. I was wondering if it's related to MK3, Or I needed to update my bootloader, Odin the new stock rom with Knox or something. I've tried updating PRL and profile, tightened all the screws but to no avail. Its Driving me nuts.

Never had this problem, but i do remember reading from someone that they fixed their issue by turning off location services under google settings?
You may also want to check under app manager, and uninstall any updates to maps?

Hey @ksmullins88, have you updated your bootloader or just the modem?

I'm in the same boat. GPS works for me on 4.4.2 Touchwiz but when I tried out a CM-11 based 4.4.4 ROM, I can get search results and stuff like that but I can't drive with it at all.

You can try this, but you'll have to flash back to Touchwiz to do it.
Calibrating Compass
1) Go to the test menu page by dialing* # 0 * #
2) Press Sensors (Never press Sleepmode!)
3) At the bottom of the page is compass and the number must be 3. That means you have calibrated the compass by 3 axis....
4) If you have number 0,1 or 2 just move your phone in the air until you get 3...

I was having the same issue in SPIRIT AOSP ROM but did the following and my GPS is now fixed.
Did what Bilgeryan said in another thread (see quote below) then Downloaded app called GPS STATUS and did COMPASS calibration (under the wrench ) and Calibrated pitch and roll. :

I also had this problem on a slightly older version of Carbon, but the latest 10/20 Carbon nightly had working GPS for me. (Carbon is largely based off of CM)

That and signal problems are widely known issues on AOSP ROMs that aren't for AOSP devices. AOSP's RIL stack just can't hold a signal as well as the software that was made for the device.

Yeah I try going back every now and again, but I usually get 1x signal and no GPS with AOSP so I think I've officially given up on this device. Kudos to those that don't have problems, wish I could say the same but it's Touchwiz only for me until I get a new device.

Download the latest stock .tar file and use Odin. It will update your bootloader and modem. FYI.... I did this a couple weeks ago and it didn't work with any CM bases ROMS. GPS not working is a know problem with AOSP on the S3.

Why can't you take the RIL from Touchwiz and put it into an AOSP ROM? I can't be the first to think of this.

Put simply, it doesn't work that way.

This ROM is in the N7105 forum. I love it. TouchWiz with tablet/phablet mode. Any app floating windows and plenty of options to choose from with Aroma Installer. Just thought I would sharewhat I think is a great ROM and different from what we have in our forum.

In Aroma there are options for modem and kernel. Just check do not change for both and you will retain your current modem and kernel. After i set the ROM up i flashed the new Saberkernel. Just my preference. No mirror. Sorry download was slow for me also.

The speeds are about the same. That's about average for me on the south side of Chicago. I usually get about 20 -25 on the north side. Battery life is good also. I'm oc'd at 1.7 and gpu at 733. I will post a battery screenshot later.

rlee----I would seriously advise on not flashing v8 as that is for the 7100 from what I have read, the original link on this thread to the v1 works for our phones. Like I said I read through the forums that is linked to the original one on this thread and when you go to the thread for the v8 op Tmobile users are stating they don't have data etc on tmobile and they stated that the v1 from this thread link is for our devices as I wanted to install. But.... if you get it working fill me in I would be interested to run this, I installed the v1 and all is well and works good thus far.
Been using this rom, great concept, totally reversible to use in regular phone mode via built-in ui app switcher. There is a youtube on this something galaxynote2root
First time the rom would not boot - likely because of all the aroma options I chose. I wiped and reflashed again using mostly suggested options and it all went well. Will try saber kernel for o/c as the rom is a bit demanding at times.
can anyone post a mirror of v1? goo is taking upwards of 11 hours

thanks for the heads up, i flashed the V8 first and everything was working ok except for data, (i kept my tmobile mode). as long as u dont flash the included modem you should be ok (no bricking). so i then flashed the V1 and everything worked fine, except that i was experiencing some lag while scrolling through menus and websites, i tried flashing with different kernels as well but always got the lag. i flashed back to my DD for now. Moon looks promising but its not what im used too

How long did you wait? Usually, at least on my device when I flash a rom it could take several minutes to load. But as stated above if it takes over 5 min then do the steps.

Great work once again. My wife refuses to go to custom ROMs and this week I quickly rooted her phone and froze updates so she wouldn't lose the ability to do so in the future. Only downside was not getting the latest update. Then here you are solving that issue for me. It's like you were in my head or something! :silly:
Newbie type question though - will data be effected by flashing this or can i just flash on top stock and retain all her data, apps, accounts and settings?
Thanks
This may be a stupid question, but If I run this to update from MDL will it wipe my apps and have to re-install them and will I loose my customizations to make google wallet and Hangouts video chat over the network work?

Word!
I actually had this done the about an hour after the OTA was out...
Long story short... I had a bad binary updater file that caused me to pull my already thin hair out. Then another guy, jetlitheone, gave me a really simple idea... Try another updater binary... and... BOOM!
SO credits to jetlitheone for making me not go insane on this build.
Funny thing... No ****... It was the same binary I used on every version of the S4 ROMS I have made before this one... I dont get it... But its now in the past, lol :silly:

You can flash this on the MDL firmware just like any other ROM and swap back to any other ROM.

See above, just the ROM. You do your own modem.
Do not flash any of the SBL's are in another post. They are simply not needed for this ROM. I made it work with the old firmware... Which is the most safe route to go!!!
You can however flash the MF3 radio! Heard it runs good on this base according to a couple guys in my CleanROM thread.

Last night I got 0.4%hr battery drain, 96.3% deep sleep, after 8 hours, with wifi on 24/7 and my VoIP app running (Sipdroid). This is on par with the best I've had to date. ROM is running quick and snappy so far with no problems at all.
More later.
Night #2 dropped to 0.3%hr drain with the same specs. Really nice kernel. No problems noted.
And night #3. Just for giggles I turned off my VoIP app and got 0.1%hr battery drain over 8 hours, and 99.4% deep sleep. Excellent.
Final post on this kernel.

I have not tried 4.3 a of yet, due to the current app restore/TB issues, etc. Still having fun with 4.2! Your rom is great.
Funny to think I could get about 33 days standby! LOL!

thanks. i never use TB. when i flash a new ROM, i make sure i'm at home on wifi so everything restores from the market on its own. takes me a few min or so to set my phone back up.
4.3, imo, is more polished now. the lock ring is fixed/centered, less TW stuff, and the kernel seems to be performing better (stock vs stock) to name a few things i've noticed.

I am not responsible if you brick your phone, for any bugs in the rom,
or if your cat decides to eat your phone because its now full of awesome.
This build is very much identical with the official build, u can switch from official and my build without any fear of having to wipe your phone.. the only difference is that i have the build script change the cyanogenmod version to more reflect like a nightly
Known Issues:
Possible 3g/4g switching issues
Instructions:
Download rom
Go to recovery
Wipe rom if coming from another rom, u dont have to wipe if ur coming from official kitkat stock rom
Flash rom
Flash gapps
Boot into rom
???
Profit!
the torrent file only contains the rom, it uses a webseed, code.google.com. u can use this if u ever have to pause to download or such.. u dont have to seed, i dont mind.. but others might like u to
To Flash, use CWM 6.0.4.3 or TWRP 2.6.3.0 which you have to manually flash
Current and older builds can be found here:

A special thanks goes to Paranoid Android for already having Gapps ready for us, and of course google for this wonderful code that is kitkat =]
To all people saying thanks: Your welcome!! ^_^
there are a few issues with 3g/4g switching, but if u were to go into the testing menu (*#*#4636#*#* in dialer) and switch it to gsm/cdma it should situate itself if u get stuck in 3g only

ok people, this rom has similar issues but it is rather smoother.. just started running it will report if i run into freezes and such and i expect there to be reports about them too! only issue i really see is the black boxes for browser and apps that use the chromium code..

Are there any mirrors? I have been trying to download for a half an hour and I am also wondering why is this build so humongous? If you provide link to gapps I am assuming that gapps is not in the package so. I am happy to see this up, I am however, jonesing to flash it which is impossible to do without the file!
THank you for your work!
YEAH 0 seeds! Why a torrent?

I feel the same way. If CM is supporting our device then we have the most dev support and best chance at a graphic glitch fix. I don't think it'll be very soon per se but CM support means the most possible devs (hopefully willing) are working on this issue.

I wouldn't put to much hope on CM support for Toro, try looking at the most recent CM support we had with the Data drops on 4.3...
I'm running dhackers cm-11 build right now. I switched to ART and lost superuser. Just wondering if anyone here has tried and what results they're having. I even flashed supersu and apps such as trickster mod tell me I'm not rooted.

@justen7723 - I'm trying out the "Experience" 4.4 toro ROM, and after seeing your post checked, and I indeed appeared to have lost root, despite having flashed supersu v1.69 zip right after the ROM. But... I just went to the Play store, installed Super SU and fired it up. It noted that it needed to update the binary, and I chose the option to have it use "CWM or TWRP" to install the binary (I have the latest CWM Touch installed, which is what i used to wipe the phone and flash the ROM in the first place -- when Philz Touch catches up, I'll go back to that, for for now straight CWM works fine). The phone booted into CWM, ran the script that Super SU had created, installed the new binary, booted up -- and now Android Root Toolkit confirms that I am, indeed, rooted, and I can check -- grant superuser status as needed. All working now. Suggest you give it a try -- works fine in this ROM, and I suspect it would work for you as well.

Running this rom now. I was finally able to get it downloaded and I am seeding now. If the OP does not mind I will upload to a file hosting site and that way it does not have to be a torrent. Let me know you can PM me if you would like.
By the way seems very smooth, only question I have is what is up with the file size? It is monstrous!

Maybe, maybe not. I've been running the M1 SNAPSHOT and have had zero date issues with my phone. The rom is super-stable and I love it. If we don't get a almost not bug CM11 I will be happy with CM10.2 4.3.1 the way it is now in the M1 status.

I've ran this for about an hour or so. The only thing I majorly notice is the graphical glitches. When I go into ScoreCenter and click on game previews, the text that it tries to bring up is glitching and you can't even read it, while it blacks out certain parts. So far though, this would be pretty close to being a daily driver for my 1-2 hour experience. No random reboots even though Google auto-installed like 20+ apps in a row, and I uninstalled many default Google apps through Titatium Backup.
Great start.

[Q] Camera not working

Out of all the roms that I have tried for my Virgin Mobil Canada, only one would work with the camera. All the others give me the "cannot connect to camera" message. Any ideas why? All the roms I have tried are 4.4.2 based with the same gapps package. I am confused. lol. Thanks!

I've tried the stock camera app that comes with the roms, and have even downloaded other camera apps from Google Play...all don't work. Thats the part that I don't get honestly. The only rom that works is LiteRom KK Update 4 (4.4.2 based). Thoughts? Lol
It works for me and I'm on a 4.4.4 ROM I built for s3 (personal build)...what gapps are you flashing...that may be flashing camera stuff not meant for what your trying to do

I originally flashed 4.4.2 gapps, with a 4.4.2 rom. i just flashed a 4.4.4 rom and flashed a 4.4.4 gapps. Still no luck. I even unistalled the torch app (was one of the remedies I searched for) and cleared the camera cache too.
Funny thing is...I thought I was on the XDA site for ATT/Rogers/Bell/Telus, until I just looked a second ago :/ Needless to say, yes...i did flash the correct rom for my phone. Lol

Sent from my Sprint Samsung Galaxy SIII on TouchWiz 4.4.2 with Conquest: Singularity v2.2, Ktoonsez' latest kernel and the latest Philz Touch Recovery.
On mine I know the sim card reader is damaged by a bad sim card, perhaps he has damaged his LG between rom changes?
An afterthought, when you clean the kernel prior to writing a new rom, you probably wipe the existing address of the camera as well, so the new rom can't validate the camera, so it does not connect or give it power.

So you did try the PA Gapps or did gummy ROM just happen to be the only ROM that the camera worked for you no matter the Gapps package?

Gummy was the only ROM (out side of the original one I used) that worked with the camera... No matter what gapps package I used. I haven't seen anyone else with this issue on the forums, so I know its just me...but its still weird. Lol
