Help with removing a virus (23 hours left until phone is wiped) - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It looks like I've got a virus. I've uploaded a screenshot of the issue (tinypic[dot]com/r/svnno5/8). It looks like a fake SMS message since my inbox doesn't contain it. Also, AVAST says my phone is free from any viruses. AVL says the same thing
I would really appreciate your help with this. Thanks in advance!
PS: The phone is stock sense and unrooted. All the apps I have are pretty popular/have quite a lot of users. And the only downloads are documents. I've had AVAST installed since I got the phone.

Can't view the screenshot at the link provided, but is it a ransom demanding thing? What happens, can you use the phone at all?
You may have to factory reset to wipe it off your device.

Oddly enough I tried to do a quick search on google for it, just "xxxmasterhackerxxx and I only got 1 hit some random filipino(?) site No info on the net about that message. =o/

It looks like a flash SMS message (the kind of SMS that only appears on you screen and is not saved to your inbox by default. Probably one of your friends is sending these messages as a joke.

I can use the phone without any problem. I pressed 'Cancel' and the popup disappeared. I would like to sort this out without resorting to a wipe. I've got quite a lot of data saved on the phone and it's a hassle I would prefer to avoid. Before the wipe, is there anything I could do?

Thanks for uploading the image! I couldn't since I'm a new member, etc.
Is a wipe the only option? That was my last resort. And to be honest, I want to know where it's coming from.

That's what I thought it may be. Any way to check this is the case? Find out the number the message came from? Perhaps I should press 'Save' the next time the popup appears?

It sounds like a variation of the simplocker malware which encrypts your SD card. Although it could be someone messing about, not sure what they would be using though.
Might be worth noting the below site just in case.
http://www.eset.com/int/download/utilities/detail/family/242/?ref=AFC-CJ&attr=6146953&pub=10921755&shop=1ngn4e8g101hv
They also have an antivirus app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eset.ems2.gp

Just transfer your pictures and music to your computer, make sure you back up and sync your everything on your Google account. And wipe that shiz. Be done with it

More importantly, where did it come from Was it as a result of a link he followed through whatever social means i.e sms, email, facebook, twitter whatever. Did it come after he installed an app from the Play store?
But if he came about through any of those then perhaps there would be some report already and like I said I only found 1 hit and it was some filipino site

Just save your data to your pc, scan it with a proper AV, and wipe the phone...
Copy EVERYTHING to your PC, including your root folders and files...
And stop using Mobile AV they're useless... Remember, the best AV you could ever have, is your own common sense... In other words, the best AV is a responsible user...

Sorry for the late update. I rescanned using ALV and it found something in Dolphin Browser. I quarantined it and then uninstalled the browser and deleted the files left on the phone. I'm not sure whether it was a false alarm: ALV also found 'suspicious' files in other apps (e.g. Modern Combat 4). So, it might have been spam. But, it's been much more than 24 hours since I got the message and nothing has happened. I've rescanned the phone using Avast, AVL and ESET and they all say the phone is fine. So, it seems the problem is gone.

It seems that it came from a link: it was in the Dolphin Browser folder. But, it might have been a spam message rather than a virus. Not sure since AVL gave quite a few false positives.

Rooted and debloated but cannot add new contacts

Hey guys. As the title says I cannot add new contacts from texts I've received since debloating. Not sure which process is causing this issue. I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue.
Will see about posting the frozen processes later.
*edit* I can't add contacts period. When I select new contact the page is blank..

Quick n simple
I didn't realize until after I read this thread that I also disabled that function. Good advice Namuna. I think I may have it fixed. Hope OP gets it solved.
edit: Since we're on the topic of contacts and such... What exactly is the "AT&T address book"? Why can't I import my contacts from my SIM card without choosing AT&T address book or google services? Does this mean AT&T would then have all of my contacts?

I'm thinking this is their new service to keep your contacts for u in the case of emergency, just like wat sprint n verizon r doing since they do not have a sim card to save contacts to. Instead of having to save your contacts to a gmail account, which many "common" users might not have any idea dat it syncs with the phone, at&t provides the service of migrating the contacts to a new phone just by placing the sim in a new phone n activating it. This is what I assume though, might be totally incorrect. lol.
edit: Btw, I think if you freeze/delete AT&T address book, u also will not be able to add new contacts to the phone.
Yeah I followed some guy's list of things he froze/disabled and one of them was the WMsync... something rather. That is the AT&T Address Book and it didn't show up in the options to import from SIM. I've since enabled it and it's there again and I'm also able to add contacts.
I just thought it was weird that I can't save the contacts directly to the phone. Is the AT&T Address Book just like a cloud sync?

I guess you can say so about AT&T address book.
What do you mean save directly to the phone though? Won't you want it to sync to your Gmail acc directly so in case anything ever happens to the phone, you won't lose your contacts?

Well I don't know how I feel about my contacts information being on a cloud server. What I've done for awhile is use Windows Contacts on my computer. It's pretty nifty and works great with an Android device since you can drag and drop.

I understand how u feel about cloud servers at one point, I felt very insecure about having my information somewhere where other people with power can easily access them on a whim. But then I thought to myself, if someone really wants the info, with enough power they can get it as long as we are connected to the "network" aka the internet. We have to be totally void of connectivity to the internet to avoid having our info in other people's hands.
Reminds me of something I saw when I watched Battlestar Galactica; how Galactica had to be completely and utterly network-less in order to avoid any possibility of being hacked and accessed by the Cylons (Cybernatic Lifeform Node). The moment they networked their infrastructures, they immediately got hacked, and had to rely on firewalls to defend themselves lol. Just a side story it was a great series too

Any Idea?
You need copy these files in /system/apps
Another question about the cloud servers. Would you guys recommend the AT&T Address Book or the Google account thing? And why did you choose it?
I'm trying to download my contacts into the car Bluetooth, but it wont recognize any contacts. I'm guessing that's due to them not being saved to the phone.
I'm wondering if its something to do with rooting and debloating. I could swear it was working before that, but I can't figure out what I would have disabled to cause the problem.

Spam/Virus alert! Bouncer not picking this up!

So im having issues with my android market... Apparently when i select "My Apps", it doesnt recognize that i have any apps loaded. So i downloaded "MARKET FIZ-ROOTED" by Potente. This app added 3 apps that can not be removed! I even tried reflashing new roms with no luck. The added apps are "GWANG-JU SUBWAY"by Hyun min cho, "KAROGES" by Creative factory and "Lovely Sky live wallpaper" by Creative factory. I reported all 4 apps to Googles reporting link. Funny thing is when you try to warn people on the ratings tab, it never shows up in ratings! I need some ideas to get me out of this mess. Im afraid of using my phone for any sensitive information for now.
Try this. Format your internal SD card and external from Astros or something similar. Then in recovery wipe everything and flash "Calkulin's format all zip". Then flash a fresh ROM.
Sent from self nominated "B" team member's phone.
Google has the ability to remotely remove apps from a persons phone if I recall correctly. I hope that they remove them for you upon your report of them being malicious apps.

Common sense is still the best antivirus.
Why would you even install that app? Look at the reviews. There's 8 and half of them are bad. It doesn't even claim to fix the problem that you are describing.
Did you even ask xda for help before installing the app?
Did OP try using titanium backup to force remove offending apps? Needs root iirc. They'll likely be listed as system apps.

Gwan ju has the same system name as com.samsung, thatswhy it shows up in your apps but its not actually installed. Google will have to remove it from the market or you have to uninstall com.samsung to get rid of the app appearing in your downloads.
If you uninstall com.samsung you will not be able to update your profile or PRL, but besides that there are no other side effects.

Its a system function so disabling it would really not be a good idea. And system apps technically have root AFAIK
I used battery mix and saw that android.process.acore uses 90% battery.
But while my phone is in idle the battery is awesome. 1% in 8 hours, but if i start using it, the battery drops faster then normal.(Not comparing to while the phone is idle, but comparing to when it was stock).
I was wondering if it also have something to do with the modem? I am using the Rogers I317MVLALJ2.

Hmmmm acore never calls for super user permission. Its a system app so it kind of already has it so showing up in the log is a bit of cause for concern. Do you have any apps that you use a lot that utilize contacts or sms that might want root? like a different contacts app or messaging app because a bug in either of those could do it

Wrong, it's your contact storage. Not google contacts, just regular. To OP, try wiping the data (for contacts storage.)
I think i found what caused it. I changed the SuperSU android.pricess.acore to prompt so it would ask again for permission. Found out it was caused by GO Task Manager EX. Removed go task manager and everything appears to be normal.
If the problem persists, then I am going wipe data on contacts with Titanium backup.
On Battery Mix the android.process.acore droppes down to 50% hoping it would drop more by using other application as it all adds up to be 100%
Sent from my SGH-I317M using xda app-developers app
I just re-rooted mine (after losing it because of the 0.7.2 update), and now I'm getting this exact thing from SuperSU for this same process.
Is there any more info out there on this?
I don't want to keep something that's supposed to have it from having root, but I don't just want to grant it to whatever wants it either. Seems to me like a system app that needs root should know how to get it, and I shouldn't be able to deny it root anyway.
I do also have Go TaskManager though like the OP. So, I will remove that and see if it goes away.
If it does go away with the removal of Go TaskManager, what does that mean?
Thanks.
I just sent a support request e-mail to the Go folks. I will try to remember to report back here when/if I get more info on this issue...
I have wipe the phone 3 times, but still have the process.android.acore.
i used twrp
wipe cache, wipe delvik, wipe system, wipe internal, factory reset
First time wiped but backed up with titanium back up.(along with go task manager) --- process.android.acore remained
Second time wiped but backed up with titanium back up also, wiped contacts storage also. WITHOUT Go task manager --- process.android.acore remained
But did not request root for process.android.acore, But by using Battery Mix. The process.android.acore still drains battery 80%+ usage.
Third time, wiped phone but WITHOUT backup anything. --- process.android.acore is still there
so i gave up.... but my battery is good after the third wipe.
But i am also using the newest perseus kernel with the Profile 5 settings. Not sure if it is because of the kernel that the battery is better but is still draining in the background.
I am using the newest Go Task Manager EX advance kill.. which requires root for the program. But it should be asking for the Go task manager root but instead of that.. it is asking for process.android.acore
Unless you are installing a specialized hacker Rom. Nothing stock(fresh flash) should ask for super user ever.

Help with adware/possible virus - unroooted stock phone

I need help with what I think is adware on my LG G3. It is not rooted or anything..just stock. Every morning and sometimes throughout the day my phone will go to a browser (today I took a screenshot and it was Firefox) and a box will come up claiming I won a prize through facebook. I know its an ad so I just back out of it. In the past there have also been messages about updating the android system, boosting the battery, etc. I run avast and malwarebytes scans and they don't find anything. Sometimes my phone just seems to act up, be slow and the screen is not responsive. I'm not sure if it's because of this issue or not. Please help!
Does anyone maybe have a solution?
It's hard for me to tell and I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in but did you install any app you suspect? AirPush detector from Google Play may find the app.
Yeah I tried AirPush..it detected Trivia Crack so I uninstalled it. I mean I haven't really been playing it lately but that kinda sucks in case I did want to play. So I guess I'll see if the ads stop now.
Yeah..even after uninstalling trivia crack ads are popping up

I installed it but then I guess it wasn't set up right. I didn't really want to try to figure it out more so I've just been dealing with the ads and just backing out when they pop up. That would only block the ads anyways right? I would rather they totally be gone if that's possible. Would factory resetting the phone get rid of the ads?

Here is little guide to setup ad-block if you are still inclined... https://adblockplus.org/en/android-config
You can also set up adblocker as an add-on to firefox, but if random browsers keep popping up with ads I don't think that'll help much.
But I believe a factory reset would take care of it. Just back everything up & good luck
What apps do you have on your phone have you installed third party applications or have you installed things from other then google play. Have you downloaded any files recently pictures, music,

it would be great if we could see a screenshot of the ad.
usually when you get some ad or pop up you can go to your status bar and press and hold the ad. this will take you to the app that is running the ad then you can uninstall it.

I haven't installed any third party apps other than the adblock plus. I only use google play. Yeah..I downloaded some music and that seems to be when the ads started. Will simply removing those songs get rid of the ads?

I might have an old screenshot but the ad changes. It hasn't popped up again for me to be able to take another screenshot. Also my phone doesn't want to recognize my SD card even though I have taken it out and restarted my phone multiple times..very frustrating..that is another issue I would like figured out..So I can't tell if that old screenshot is on there at all.
Has the SD card been damaged? Try putting a different SD card in the phoblne and see if it works

Can't open anythIng. ANYTHING!

So, earlier today my 930 was low on storage. Upon realizing that, as a good user, I immeadiately started deleting apps. I unninstalled photos plugin, and a blank app wich was ~80mb large. After I uninstalled them, the phone remained normal. But a few hours later, when I picked up my 930 again, every app icon was BLANK! Not only that, but I cannot open pretty much ANY APP INSTALLED ON MY PHONE, not native ones, not downloaded ones. It just does that launching animation and goes back. Sometimes not even that. Still, I can still access the phone using windows explorer on my computer, so I got photos backup going on.
There are only a few apps I can open but, for me, are of no use right now:
-Contact Support
-Cortana
-File explorer
-FM Radio
-Storage (Shows icon but does not open)
I've tried restarting the phone quite a few times (>20) and had no success. I searched google for quite some time and I've found absolutely NOTHING to do with this issue, and that is quite worriyng. I have some important data on this device that I'm not willing to lose. If anyone can help recovering it/backing up stuff so it can be restored upon formatting or avoiding doing it, that would be GREAT!

I've made a video just to show how bad it is: https://youtu.be/bsObk_FRY54
Anyways, I've no idea of what to do besides hard resetting this puppy, since there's no way to do a soft one as the settings app is dead. So yeah, thanks in advance to the good sould that can help with this one:angel:

This. A soft reset might solve your problem, and you will not lose anything from your data, so it is safe for you to try.
Or use Windows phone recovery tool

So, what happens when you try to backup your 'important data' the same way? What kind of data is 'important data'?
Does installing apps from the Store work?
Is your phone developer, interop or root unlocked?

I can't even open store, or anything, for that matter. My important data is Whatsapp Chats and some texts I have, which I cannot backup through MTP. The phone was Interop'd, but then the new extras menu came in and it's now stock.
Can you deploy anything?
Can you developer unlock using the official WP8.1 tool?
Can you access WhatsApp appdata using File Explorer on the phone and the shortcut (.lnk file) trick?
Did you disable backup, because:
I've reflashed quite a few times and text messages always restored fine. Do they show upp in W10PC messaging app?
WhatsApp history I've actually seen on their web site client.

Damn, should've done it before :/
As I couldn't go through two whole days without a phone, I just had to format it. Still, thanks for all the help, y'all. Will mind these when sh*t goes down again. AND THANK YOU AGAIN <3
