Spam/Virus alert! Bouncer not picking this up! - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So im having issues with my android market... Apparently when i select "My Apps", it doesnt recognize that i have any apps loaded. So i downloaded "MARKET FIZ-ROOTED" by Potente. This app added 3 apps that can not be removed! I even tried reflashing new roms with no luck. The added apps are "GWANG-JU SUBWAY"by Hyun min cho, "KAROGES" by Creative factory and "Lovely Sky live wallpaper" by Creative factory. I reported all 4 apps to Googles reporting link. Funny thing is when you try to warn people on the ratings tab, it never shows up in ratings! I need some ideas to get me out of this mess. Im afraid of using my phone for any sensitive information for now.

Try this. Format your internal SD card and external from Astros or something similar. Then in recovery wipe everything and flash "Calkulin's format all zip". Then flash a fresh ROM.
Sent from self nominated "B" team member's phone.

Google has the ability to remotely remove apps from a persons phone if I recall correctly. I hope that they remove them for you upon your report of them being malicious apps.

I sure hope so. I wonder how an app can block my rating and quote? I didnt think that was possible.

You might even try to contact Google, and explain what all is going on, and ask them to assist you in removal of the apps.

This single app is the culprit. This app can be deleted but the other 3 cannot.
Hopefully google will get back to me.

Common sense is still the best antivirus.
Why would you even install that app? Look at the reviews. There's 8 and half of them are bad. It doesn't even claim to fix the problem that you are describing.
Did you even ask xda for help before installing the app?

Did OP try using titanium backup to force remove offending apps? Needs root iirc. They'll likely be listed as system apps.

Gwan ju has the same system name as com.samsung, thatswhy it shows up in your apps but its not actually installed. Google will have to remove it from the market or you have to uninstall com.samsung to get rid of the app appearing in your downloads.
If you uninstall com.samsung you will not be able to update your profile or PRL, but besides that there are no other side effects.

Thanks for all the communities help. My phone is back to normal now. As for my market not recognizing my phone, i used Titanium back up to destroy all market links. I then Used market doctor to restore all user apps only.

What is android.process.acore?

Just a question.. what is android.process.acore? It uses a huge amount of battery and also requires root access?

Its a system function so disabling it would really not be a good idea. And system apps technically have root AFAIK
I used battery mix and saw that android.process.acore uses 90% battery.
But while my phone is in idle the battery is awesome. 1% in 8 hours, but if i start using it, the battery drops faster then normal.(Not comparing to while the phone is idle, but comparing to when it was stock).
I was wondering if it also have something to do with the modem? I am using the Rogers I317MVLALJ2.

Hmmmm acore never calls for super user permission. Its a system app so it kind of already has it so showing up in the log is a bit of cause for concern. Do you have any apps that you use a lot that utilize contacts or sms that might want root? like a different contacts app or messaging app because a bug in either of those could do it

Wrong, it's your contact storage. Not google contacts, just regular. To OP, try wiping the data (for contacts storage.)
I think i found what caused it. I changed the SuperSU android.pricess.acore to prompt so it would ask again for permission. Found out it was caused by GO Task Manager EX. Removed go task manager and everything appears to be normal.
If the problem persists, then I am going wipe data on contacts with Titanium backup.
On Battery Mix the android.process.acore droppes down to 50% hoping it would drop more by using other application as it all adds up to be 100%
Sent from my SGH-I317M using xda app-developers app
I just re-rooted mine (after losing it because of the 0.7.2 update), and now I'm getting this exact thing from SuperSU for this same process.
Is there any more info out there on this?
I don't want to keep something that's supposed to have it from having root, but I don't just want to grant it to whatever wants it either. Seems to me like a system app that needs root should know how to get it, and I shouldn't be able to deny it root anyway.
I do also have Go TaskManager though like the OP. So, I will remove that and see if it goes away.
If it does go away with the removal of Go TaskManager, what does that mean?
Thanks.
I just sent a support request e-mail to the Go folks. I will try to remember to report back here when/if I get more info on this issue...
I have wipe the phone 3 times, but still have the process.android.acore.
i used twrp
wipe cache, wipe delvik, wipe system, wipe internal, factory reset
First time wiped but backed up with titanium back up.(along with go task manager) --- process.android.acore remained
Second time wiped but backed up with titanium back up also, wiped contacts storage also. WITHOUT Go task manager --- process.android.acore remained
But did not request root for process.android.acore, But by using Battery Mix. The process.android.acore still drains battery 80%+ usage.
Third time, wiped phone but WITHOUT backup anything. --- process.android.acore is still there
so i gave up.... but my battery is good after the third wipe.
But i am also using the newest perseus kernel with the Profile 5 settings. Not sure if it is because of the kernel that the battery is better but is still draining in the background.
I am using the newest Go Task Manager EX advance kill.. which requires root for the program. But it should be asking for the Go task manager root but instead of that.. it is asking for process.android.acore
Unless you are installing a specialized hacker Rom. Nothing stock(fresh flash) should ask for super user ever.

Are we (gerazz and I) the only two it's happening to?
Other than the initial auto-reply, I haven't heard back from Go about it yet.
The process.android.acore shows up regardless. But it does.not require root if i do not use the Go Task Manager.

This is what I read about App Ops:
"Some apps don't show all their required permissions until we use them. For instance with Bump app the authorizations for "vibrate mode" and "Send notification" only appear when we open the app and try to send something."

yes, and you can try "App Ops Launcher" on play store to launch the "App ops" on android 4.3, it is just only 7kb.
it is coming with the next update? i mean official yet?
A new way for end users to break apps...a developers nightmare come true. While I like the idea of this it is too easy for users to switch off permissions, forget they did it, app appears broken and the developer must waste time supporting a non-issue.
This is aimed at the functionality Google has added to 4.3 not the OP's shortcut app.

The situation wouldn't be the current one if some developpers don't use useless permissions. Have a look at Facebook's permissions...
The user has to know what he does before criticizing an app that seems to not work properly.

If used properly this is an awesome addition, the problem is what I stated above will indeed happen.
Example being a wallpaper app (we will call it wall-e) shouldn't be able to read contacts if it can't set contact images, in this example disabling this ability is warrented. But perhaps you didn't know this particular wallpaper app can set contact images, you disable this permisssion. Weeks later your changing John Doe's image to find wall-e in the list with gallery, you think cool I can use wall-e to change John's image so you select wall-e and bam...force close. You think the app is broken, send bug report, the developer reads the crashlog and tries for hours to find out why on this particular device setting a contact image causes a crash.
This is a general example, it gets worse as most users have no idea what permissions are really necessary for Android applications basic functionality.
Then it gets much worse, this is one user...imagine all the millions of users using hundreds of thousands of apps once 4.3 is mainstream like 4.2.
Please try this "App ops launcher", it is only 7kb, scan this and install on your device to have a try.
cheers :good: will it also work on jb4.1.2?

Help with removing a virus (23 hours left until phone is wiped)

It looks like I've got a virus. I've uploaded a screenshot of the issue (tinypic[dot]com/r/svnno5/8). It looks like a fake SMS message since my inbox doesn't contain it. Also, AVAST says my phone is free from any viruses. AVL says the same thing

It sounds like a variation of the simplocker malware which encrypts your SD card. Although it could be someone messing about, not sure what they would be using though.
Might be worth noting the below site just in case.

They also have an antivirus app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eset.ems2.gp
Just transfer your pictures and music to your computer, make sure you back up and sync your everything on your Google account. And wipe that shiz. Be done with it

Just save your data to your pc, scan it with a proper AV, and wipe the phone...
Copy EVERYTHING to your PC, including your root folders and files...
And stop using Mobile AV they're useless... Remember, the best AV you could ever have, is your own common sense... In other words, the best AV is a responsible user...

Sorry for the late update. I rescanned using ALV and it found something in Dolphin Browser. I quarantined it and then uninstalled the browser and deleted the files left on the phone. I'm not sure whether it was a false alarm: ALV also found 'suspicious' files in other apps (e.g. Modern Combat 4). So, it might have been spam. But, it's been much more than 24 hours since I got the message and nothing has happened. I've rescanned the phone using Avast, AVL and ESET and they all say the phone is fine. So, it seems the problem is gone.

It seems that it came from a link: it was in the Dolphin Browser folder. But, it might have been a spam message rather than a virus. Not sure since AVL gave quite a few false positives.

Help with adware/possible virus - unroooted stock phone

I need help with what I think is adware on my LG G3. It is not rooted or anything..just stock. Every morning and sometimes throughout the day my phone will go to a browser (today I took a screenshot and it was Firefox) and a box will come up claiming I won a prize through facebook. I know its an ad so I just back out of it. In the past there have also been messages about updating the android system, boosting the battery, etc. I run avast and malwarebytes scans and they don't find anything. Sometimes my phone just seems to act up, be slow and the screen is not responsive. I'm not sure if it's because of this issue or not. Please help!
Does anyone maybe have a solution?
It's hard for me to tell and I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in but did you install any app you suspect? AirPush detector from Google Play may find the app.
Yeah I tried AirPush..it detected Trivia Crack so I uninstalled it. I mean I haven't really been playing it lately but that kinda sucks in case I did want to play. So I guess I'll see if the ads stop now.

That would only block the ads anyways right? I would rather they totally be gone if that's possible. Would factory resetting the phone get rid of the ads?

That would only block the ads anyways right? I would rather they totally be gone if that's possible. Would factory resetting the phone get rid of the ads?

Here is little guide to setup ad-block if you are still inclined... https://adblockplus.org/en/android-config
You can also set up adblocker as an add-on to firefox, but if random browsers keep popping up with ads I don't think that'll help much.
But I believe a factory reset would take care of it. Just back everything up & good luck
What apps do you have on your phone have you installed third party applications or have you installed things from other then google play. Have you downloaded any files recently pictures, music,

it would be great if we could see a screenshot of the ad.
usually when you get some ad or pop up you can go to your status bar and press and hold the ad. this will take you to the app that is running the ad then you can uninstall it.

I haven't installed any third party apps other than the adblock plus. I only use google play. Yeah..I downloaded some music and that seems to be when the ads started. Will simply removing those songs get rid of the ads?

I might have an old screenshot but the ad changes. It hasn't popped up again for me to be able to take another screenshot. Also my phone doesn't want to recognize my SD card even though I have taken it out and restarted my phone multiple times..very frustrating..that is another issue I would like figured out..So I can't tell if that old screenshot is on there at all.
Has the SD card been damaged? Try putting a different SD card in the phoblne and see if it works

Question Phone reset...should I?

Helloe
Since I bought the phone, the reminder subfunction of the Google calendar app doesn't work. I get reminded of events but not of reminders that I add. Other users jave reported it as well, but we haven't found a solution.
OnePlus support recommended this
"Please try reset options this will not erase data. If you only want to clear app data and restore your device to factory settings without losing the data stored in the internal storage, choose the Reset all settings option in the Reset phone menu instead of the Erase all data option."
With a perfectly working daily driver phone that's rooted and otherwise working fine, should I follow their suggestion?
Does root get wiped? Will I have to reinstall my apps?
Thanks
Try clearing just that apps data. Maybe use another calendar app if that doesn't work.
Google apps are a pain. Constant firmware and software upgrades/updates just mean more of your time spent trying to learn and troubleshoot them. Gookill is a mess.

Yup, did that, but I'll do it again. The app worked perfectly on my op7pro prior to this phone.

If you can uninstall then reinstall it try that. Check it's permissions and if it's able to run in the background. A Google search may give you more solutions; doesn't have to be that model or even brand as the same issues tend to happen on many different Androids.
If that's the only problem I would find another app to replace it. Not worth screwing up a good load over one insignificant app.
I use as little Google apps as possible. I use the native Samsung calendar instead. I use Gmail and Gmaps but Gmaps is a mess.

I tried to uninstall it but I was unable to. I couldn't even use titanium back to remove it for some reason. I should be able to remove it that way, right.
You have a valid point about not reseting over 1 app. Thanks
Blackhawks fan? Or you like the helicopter?

Indian warrior actually.
"It has pleased the Great Spirit that I am here today— I have eaten with my white friends. The earth is our mother— we are now on it, with the Great spirit above us; it is good. I hope we are all friends here. A few winters ago I was fighting against you. I did wrong, perhaps, but that is past—it is buried—let it be forgotten.
Rock River was a beautiful country. I liked my towns, my cornfields and the home of my people. I fought for it. It is now yours. Keep it as we did— it will produce you good crops.
I thank the Great Spirit that I am now friendly with my white brethren. We are here together, we have eaten together; we are friends; it is his wish and mine. I thank you for your friendship.
I was once a great warrior; I am now poor. Keokuk has been the cause of my present situation; but I do not attach blame to him. I am now old. I have looked upon the Mississippi since I have been a child. I love the great river. I have dwelt upon its banks from the time I was an infant. I look upon it now. I shake hands with you, and as it is my wish, I hope you are my friends.

This is what I get when I try to uninstall it using titanium backup.
That's interesting as it's not even present on my Samsung. With root permissions I would think you could uninstall it. However it may have dependencies.
Again I would bypass it by using another calendar app to replace it.
